Replicating Characteristic Values of a Material to Equipment

Hi,
We are creating a Material Master with Classification View. In this view, we have assigned a Class (Class Type 001) with several Characteristics. Characteristic Values are also assigned to each of these Characteristics.
We are also creating Equipment Master for the above Material at the time of GR. This Equipment Master has a Class of Class Type 002. But this Class has some Characteristics that are common with the Material Master. The Characteristic Values are also the same.
Is it possible to automatically populate the Characteristic Values from the Material Master to the Equipment Master for the common ones ?
(Requirement is to search for Equipment Numbers based on Characteristic Values in the corresponding Material Master. In IH08, we are unable to do this. So is it appropriate to think of assigning the same characteristics in the Equipment Master and assign those characteristic Values? We feel that it is amounting to duplication and prone to mismatch.)
Request suggestions please.

The values have to be copied when an Equipment Master is created at the time of GR and you are right ... we cannot allow modification of the characteristic values in the Equipment Master independent of the Material Master !! Both has to be in synch for those common characteristics.
I will also check with our ABAP team to explore enhancement spots in IH08.
In our case, both the material serial number and the equipment number are kept synchronous. Is there anyway where we can search Serial Numbers based on the Characteristic Values in the corresponding Material Master?

I am currently using material class (class type: 001) and assign some characteristics to material master. I am going to create a query/custom report to track all changes in the characteristic values in that material master. However, I could not find any change document in CDHDR table.
I have activated "Change Docs" parameter in class type 001 customizing as described in SAP note: 65124 Classification Change Documents as follow:

Thanks for your reply. It seems that I missed one more step in the customizing. Once the multiple object is activated, I need to activate the change document parameter for each assigned object.

Lock characteristic value for configurable material in Sales Order

Is there a setting in SAP which can prevent user changing characteristic value for configurable material in Sales Order after production order created for this Sales Order? Currently, it can only works when first delivery create for this Sales Order.

Hi,,
in the characteristic goto additional data tab,
you have a field called not ready for input.
you select this when the value in this characteristic come by calculation based on the previous selection.
that field will be greyed out.
OR
u can even select the no display check box,
by selecting this u cant see the characteristic in the list,, it will give u a popup before leaving the screen.
for this the char has to be a required field.
OR
if any of this is not working then may be u can try out with authorization management.

No characteristic value of the material in PO

Hi,
I am testing the configuration material. I've maintianed a class of class type 200 in BOM, and get the PR after running MRP. No any field or view in PO to display the characteristic value of material. How to get it? I thought it should be display somewhere in PO and in the GR view, because the buyer should know what product they should get and the inspector should know what should be inspect and the pass level.

I checked all the tab in PO and PR, but no any icon to see the characteristic.
I've created a PO for a material which was maintain a class of class type 001, then I've seen the icon 'configuration'.
Is it necessary to maintain a class of class type 001 for the material related class item in BOM? The on line help told that could create some materials with different characteristic value of one characteristic assigned to a class of class type 200, then maintain this class in BOM. System will pick the right material according to the characteristic value in SO.
I am confused that why have to create some materials to do that because this application is to reduce redundance of material. I thought one material is enought, which will be required by the characteristic value and taking this value in PO. Do I have to maintain the class 001 for this? If yes, how can I get the characteristic value of class 001 from same charactieristic in the class 002?

Thanks for quick reply. I am maintaining under classification view but it does not ask plant any where. So the value will be same across all the plants but i want to maintain characteristic values separately under each plant for same material.

What I understand from the question is this: While creating a material master through the use of workflow, you wish to automate the selection of mandatory and optional characteristics in the classification view. I have a few queries:
How many classes does your material have? only batch class or material class as well?
Also, on what basis do you want to automate the selection of the characteristic values for a material? There has to be a connection between the material type OR class assigned to the material, etc.

Query on classification material characteristic values update/insert

Hi,
I have a requirement to change classification characteristic values of a material via Txn MM02.
The function modules tried are as follows which did not serve the purpose:
1.UPDATE_MATERIAL_CLASSIFICATION
2.CLVF_VB_INSERT_CLASSIFICATION
3.CLVF_INSERT_AUSP
4.CLVF_UPDATE_AUSP
The characteristic values are not getting updated in the table AUSP(Where the values must have been updated) . So the updating of material classification characteristic values via txn MM02 is failing.
Please can anybody help on any function modules or alternate solutions that will help to update the classification char. values of the materials.
Also,for info please let know of the tables that maybe related for this updation other than AUSP.
Any input at the earliest would be of great help.

There are quite a few standard BAPI function modules that can be used exactly for this. Look into the BAPI transaction under the CROSS APPLICATION SYSTEM --> CLASSIFICATION .
BAPI_OBJCL_CHANGE
BAPI_OBJCL_CREATE
BAPI_OBJCL_DELETE
BAPI_OBJCL_GETCLASSES
BAPI_OBJCL_GETDETAIL
These can be used to modify / create any classification data for the materials.

PR created with a reference PR copied the reference material configuration( Characteristic Values).

I have created a PR with reference to another PR. After adopting I changed the material and saved. After saving, when I checked the variant configuration at the line item level (Characteristic values), its showing the characteristic values of the material of the reference PR. It should be showing the details of the new material which I have used but, its showing the variant configuration of the material used in the PR which I used as reference.
Ideally, these values has to be changed when I changed the material in the newly created PR. What might have gone wrong here?
Example: PR- Purchase Requisition
               Mat - Material.
PR1 contains Mat1.
I am adopting PR1 and creating PR2 with Mat2.
After saving, when I check the variant configuration, classification values are from Mat1. I was expecting the values from Mat2 as I have Mat2 in PR2.
Any suggestions would be of great help.

Hi,
   Please check whether classification data has been maintained for the second material. If the configuration data doesnt exist for the second material, system cant redetermine and transfer. Refr the note: 588117 - FAQ: Configurable materials in purchasing Question number 5.
   If the configuration data exists and still the data is not changed, refer the note: 920648 - Error in the configuration when you copy PReq item or 596994 - ME21N/ME51N: Configuration not determined again based on your release.

How to get ATINN value based on material number and Class Type ?

I have below SELECT stmt code which gives the correct value of atwrt based on materil no and ATINN.
However in quality system, it is failing because in quality system "atinn" value is not 0000000381. It is different.
So how can I get ATINN(Internal characteristic) value based on material number and Class Type?
-Obtain the batch characterstic value for the Material******************
SELECT atwrt
    UP TO 1 ROWS
    INTO v_charvalue
    FROM ausp

Excluding characteristic values dynamically during runtime

Hi guys, I need to do the following for a report I'm trying to create:
I have the following Key Figures:
"<= 10 days"
"> 10 days"
I am trying to drilldown by a characteristic value such as Material.
So, for the first Key Figure (<= 10 days), I may get:
Material 1
Material 2
Material 3
For the second Key Figure (> 10 days), I may get:
Material 3
Material 4
Material 5
What I want to do here, is to exclude the values under Key Figure "<= 10 days", from being repeated in the Key Figure "> 10 days".
So I want it like this:
Material    <=10days      >10days
Material1         1                     0
Material2         1                     0
Material3         1                     0* <----- I want this to be excluded in the 2nd Key Figure
Material4         0                     1
Material5         0                     1
Does anyone have any idea how to go about doing this?

In more specific terms, the key figures are actually restricted by a date range, e.g., 08.2010 and 07.2010
The value can belong to both dates in this case, such as:
Material 07.2010 08.2010
Material3 1 1
What I need is to show the material only in the most recent bucket.
In other words, if the material has appeared in the key figure containing 08.2010, I want to exclude this material from displaying in the key figure in 07.2010.
Does that make sense?

assigned characterics are length=2mm
                                          width =6mm
I want to know these characteristic value for this material in table.

You can use the FM BAPI_OBJCL_GETDETAIL to fetch the characteristic values for an equipment from the table parameters ALLOCVALUESNUM; ALLOCVALUESCHAR; ALLOCVALUESCURR.
Or u can use the tables EQUI, KLAH, KSSK, AUSP, CABN

Copy BOM Component Characteristic value in material PR created by MRP Run

Dear Gurus,
My requirement is I have materials like thread to maintain color characteristic i have create class - color- class type is 023 , now i want user should able to maintain characteristic value in BOM component (thread) of semifinish material. FG , SFG are not having any characteristic.
Now in PR and PO we can maintain characteristic value in Material Data --->Configuration tab , Configuration tab will come only when there is tick in material is configurable at material basic data 2 view of thread and in CU41 I have to maintain material for class type 300 - Variant , then in class assignment i have select class type 300 and 023 both and maintain class , both are having same characteristic please make me correct if i am doing wrong process, if i am not maintaining class assignment 300 in CU41, in manual PO system not allowing to enter characteristic value in configuration tab . so i maintain both class assignment 300 and 023.
Now for manual PR and PO system showing configuration tab and from PO configuration tab characteristic value is coming in MIGO automatically but when i am running MRP for finish material the auto PR generated by system for material thread is not showing configuration tab in Material Data of PR. I have maintain characteristic value in BOM --->Extra--->Batch Classification. Please guide me how to archive this.

Still i am unable to understand the reason for maintaining a characterstic value for a batch through BOM, I hope you are not changing BOM for every purchase order ?
can you explain what you expect by maintaing this one value for batch characterstic?
you can have many other simple option like
1) Create a material with colour included in it ex, Thread_red, Thread _green etc and use them in BOM
2) Use text in BOM to hold this discription for colour
3) Use batch management, class 023 in material master classification , defalut value for colour, purchase order will be created and while doing GR you can change in colur if its different then default you set earlier.

when you manualy create PR you Thread material is consider to be a configurable material and thats why you are able to input configuration value, otherwise as soon as you put this configurable material inside a BOM of normal materila it loost its configuration feature, if you want you can create your parent material also as configurable material, assign same class to it and create configuration profile and take MRP run this time you will get PR with configuration tab as your thread get configuration derived from parent.

I dont know if its possible in standard, you can try and create a reference batch, and use the below user exit I found in SAP library :
Set Up Customer Exit for Determining Source Batch
You can use function module exit EXIT_SAPLV01Z_011 in SAP enhancement SAPLV1ZN when assigning characteristic values to batches. You use this to specify a reference batch when creating a new batch with the central function module VB_CREATE_BATCH.
Further notes
The reference batch must always be specified completely. This means the reference material, source batch and reference plant details must have been entered if the batch is determined at plant level.
All batch master data is copied. If the batch is classified in this enhancement, the values assigned to the corresponding characteristics are copied.
In the exit, you can use a communication structure with the application data for the respective business transaction (for example, plant or material type). If you require further information, you must obtain it yourself in one of the user exits (such as time, user name, or date, for example).
