Report generation, Excel isn't closed in the Task manager (LV2010)

Hello everybody,
I attached a simple example, to explain my problem.
I tried (with Report generation) save data to Excel. That works fine. My problem is: in the Task Manager I can see the Excel.exe.
Does anybody have a idea or a solution, why Excel don't closed?
If I open and close the saved Excel file, the Excel.exe disappear in the Task manager. But this should not the way.
many thanks in advance

Hello zäpfle,
This is actually a known issue and already reported to NI R&D. As you mentioned, to solve this, you have to open and close the Excel report (with Word report everything seems to be fine). Since the task is closed just after the VI closes or open-and-close Excel, it seemed that not all references would close properly. The issue though isn't with properly closing the references, but rather deeper.  However, a possible workaround would be to programmatically end the process just after closing the reference to Excel.  Here is a link to a community example that demonstrates how to do just that:

Hope this helped. I am sorry for the inconvenience!

  • How to close Acrobat.exe from the task manager processes through plug-in?

    I have a plug-in in which we have a functionality of defining some keys and they are displayed as annotations on the PDF. Now, if the user defines such a key, an annot (i.e.a rectangular box) gets displayed on the PDF and if the user does not click custom menu say 'Close Key' then annot remains visible on the PDF.
    My problem is if in such a case i.e. the user has defined a key & if the user does not hit 'Close Key' and instead closes Acrobat by directly hitting close (i.e. [X] button at top right corner), then Acrobat exits; but the Acrobat.exe remains running in the Processes.
    If the user tries to open the same PDF again then a message pops up saying 'Cannot open file for viewing as its already in use...'.
    Note that any other PDF gets opened fine.
    Could somebody help me in giving me any ideas/suggestions on this? I want to exit the acrobat.exe from the processes so that the same PDF could get opened. As described above, the cause is the key (annot) was opened and user abrubtly exited Acrobat. Is there a way, that we could catch this Acrobat exit event in the plug-in? That way, I'd be able to clear off the annot (key) and then close acrobat.
    Please let me know asap.

    Hey, tnx for ur response! But, the issue is reproducible on Acrobat 7.0 Professional.
    I do have the 'WillClose' event registered in my plug-in. Below is the event that is wired up with 'WillClose' event:-
    static
    ACCB1 void ACCB2 NotifyAVWillClose (AVDoc doc, void *clientData){
    UNREFERENCED_PARAMETER(clientData);
    UNREFERENCED_PARAMETER(doc);
    CloseTemplate(TRUE);
    The 'CloseTemplate' method performs the closing of the annotation, clearing of objects and deleting the PDFfile class pointer.
    And this all works fine with Acrobat.exe getting closed from the task manager processes in acrobat versions 8 & 9. However, in Acrobat 7.0, the process remains in the Task Manager.
    Could you suggest any ideas on what else needs to be implemented to end the process in Acrobat 7?
    Thanks!

  • My iTunes 10.6.1.7 automatically restarts every time I close the program.  I have to open the Task Manager to close it and keep it closed.  Any suggestions to fix?

    I have closed the program repeatedly, but every time I do it reopens within a few seconds.  The only way I have found to make the program STAY closed (not using memory and CPU time) is to force it to close in the Task Manager.

    Do you have Logitech gaming software installed on the PC? If so, perhaps try the suggestion from the following post:

  • After closing Firefox and trying to open a new session, I get periodic pop ups telling the program is still running. I open the task manager and close it, and everything's fine. What's the issue, and how do I get it to stop?

    Problem doesn't happen every time, and I've tried to leave it alone to see if there's an update that needs to finish loading. After being left overnight, I still had to use the task manager to close the Firefox program. I have no idea what it's doing, and I'd like to know. Is Firefox taking over my computer so it can move on to my house, and then go on to rule the Tri State Area?

    Firefox won't start. Everytime I end the process/close the last window, it keeps getting stuck at about 2500k memory in the task manager. The only way I have to fix it is to change some kind of compability settings or try and access it in a new way, and every time it crashes/closed/computer blue screens that setting will no longer work.
    That is a short term solution, but eventually I'll run out of ways to access firefox successfully. I've tried many solutions, and some worked, but only once. I have yet to find a permanent solution for this problem.

    First please update your plugins to make sure you are up to date. Shockwave Flash player has a newer version 16. • FireFox showing 126,000+ K in the Task manager, but doesn't appear

    Hello, today I started FF. After about three minutes, it didn't appear so I double clicked its icon again. It still didn't show.
    I then opened the Task manager, and FF was 126,000+ K. I had to use another browser. I attended a webinar online, and as soon as the webinar ended, FF worked just fine. What could have caused what I experienced? Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
    Please report back to see if this helped you!

  • Firefox won't open. I followed instructions in help. I closed Firefox via Task Manager, processeRestarted my comp. It still won't work. (as a test I ran Explorer to see if that would work. It does.) What can I do to get Firefox working properly?

    These are the help suggestions from Firefox Help that I followed:

    An extension prevented Firefox from closing properly
    Sometimes your previous Firefox session did not close properly and this prevents you from restarting Firefox. Norton IPS, Norton Toolbar, and Skype 4.0 are all known to prevent Firefox from closing properly. Firefox is still running, but no windows are open.
    note: TO MY KNOWLEDGE I DON'T HAVE NORTON
    1. Right-click on an empty spot in the Windows task bar and select Task Manager (or press Ctrl+Shift+Esc).
    Note: On newer versions of Windows (XP, Vista, 7) the combination Ctrl+Alt+Del opens Task Manager as well.

    4. Click Yes in the "Task Manager Warning" dialog that appears.

    5. Repeat the above steps to end any additional firefox.exe processes, if more than one entry is found, then exit the Windows Task Manager.
    6. Start Firefox normally. NOTE: THIS IS WHAT DOESN'T WORK AFTER CLOSING THE PROCESS IN TASK MANAGER AND RESTARTING THE COMPUTER...THEREFORE I COULDN'T DO THE REST OF THE INSTRUCTIONS
    7. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Tools menu, and select Add-ons.
    8. Select the Extensions panel.
    9. (If it is listed) Select Norton IPS and click Disable.
    10. (If it is listed) Select Norton Toolbar and click Disable.
    11. (If it is listed) Select Skype 4.0 and click Disable.
    12. Click on Restart Firefox.
    ADDITIONAL NOTE: BEFORE THIS PROBLEM STARTED TODAY I WAS ON THE WEB LOOKING UP A PHONE NUMBER = THERE WAS SOME WEIRD JAVA ERROR MESSAGE SO i DIDN'T DOWNLOAD THE PAGE AND EXITED. SOMETIME LATER IS WHEN FIREFOX NO LONGER WORKED.

    Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
    This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
    To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • When I click on Firefox, it won't open... the icon flashes as if opening but no browser window opens. It also does not appear in the task manager

    I click on the icon and it flashes as if opening.... no browser window appears.... I check the task manager to see if it is open but not displayed... nothing in the task manager..
    So I uninstalled it leaving my preferences, and reinstalled it but it does the same thing. This time when I went to uninstall it again wiping the preferences away (in case it is those that is causing the problem) the uninstall program said that I had to close firefox first... but it isn't showing up as open in the task manager....

    Whenever you try to save a PDF file to a location other than the default location ('My Documents'), Firefox freezes & you have to go to the 'Task Manager' to exit Firefox and stop the error. I have Windows XP (Media Center Edition) and all updates (Firefox, Adobe PDF, Microsoft, virus protection, etc) are installed. This has only been a problem since Firefox 4, and isn't a problem in Internet Explorer.

    Hi David,
    Thank you for your detailed question. It sounds like the real issue is pdf files. Are there any antivirus/firewalls that might be blocking this specific file type? or are there any preferences in your control panel that might be blocking this?
    Do you have any stored preferences for PDF files in Firefox?

  • Firefox closes when I shut down, but when it is running, I can't see it on the monitor or find it in the Task Manager.

    When I open Firefox, nothing seems to happen. It doesn't appear on the monitor and the Task Manager doesn't list it as running. But when I shut down the computer, Firefox must be closed before shut down can be completed.

    The "System Tray" is located at the very bottom right of your screen and is a list of most/all running applications that will show in this list.
    For your SysFader issue, this "may" be the problem:
    1 Find the "My Computer" desktop icon and right-click it. A pull-down menu will appear. Select "Properties."
    2 Click on the "Advanced" tab. This will load a new page of options.
    3 Select the "Visual Effects" tab at the top of the window and deselect "Animate Windows when minimizing and maximizing," "Fade or slide menus into view," "Fade or slide Tool Tips into view" and "Fade out Menu items after checking."
    4 Click "OK." This will remove most if not all of the Sysfader effects, at the same time correcting related errors that used to come up during opening a new file or program.
