Report Index Bursting

My dba say's adding "report index bursting" to a long running report that's timing out in the InfoViewer will correct the problem.  The reports ran to completion when they ran on CR 9 server, but once it was migrated to CR 2008 it times out under InfoView.  I'm able to run it locally on my Oracle VM in CR 2008 without it timing out.
I've never used "report index bursting" but it just sounds like "report caching" which I've done in SSRS 2008.

"report index bursting" increases performance when accessign the saved data in the report but not when the report is refreshing from the database.
How many rows does your report fetch from the database?

  • Crystal 2008 - Report Index Bursting, what is this?

The help in CR defines it as this, but could someone please elaborate.
"The Saved Data Indexes dialog box appears when you select the Report Bursting Indexes command from the Report menu.
Use this dialog box to select the fields you want indexed within your report's saved data. You can increase the performance of a Crystal report by indexing its saved data. Indexes you specify are created when you refresh the report's data."
We have some reports that are timing out, will this help?

    Hello,
It may help but with reports with saved data only. What it does is some DB's and tables are not indexed for optimum reporting and if those tables are used as the report data source CR has to do the indexing which can affect performance. What the function does is build a saved data field index so when previewed the report can render the reports pages quicker.
For your issue though I doubt this will help as it would appear your problem is CR is waiting for your data to come from the database.
Some Options would be for you to add indexing to your DB or possibly using a Stored Procedure or something server side to speed up the data collection process and do most of the filtering server side rather than client side.
No info about your data source to go on so not sure what the issue may be.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Report Catalogue or Report Index Template

Hi can anyone throw soem light on report catalogue or report index template which provides visibility to end users using the SAP BW .

    Thanks for the reply.
Well when i'm opening the report , i wait for about 15 seconds then 'Page Cannot be Displayed' appears on my browser. I'm having this case only when i'm expecting huge data. By huge data i mean that the report gets informations about a deal, when the deal has 10 categories the report runs fine, but when i add all catgories, about 1000, it gives me the 'Page cannot be displayed' error. I'm guessing its a time out issue since i've set the scalable_mode parameter to on. Any thoughts ???

  • Integration of BIP Report file bursting with Unix FTP directory(using IBot)

We have a requirement for dynamically creating the folder in FTP server, which gets the bursted file when a BIP report is executed.
We have used the following approach:
Created a IBot with Custom Java Program which creates a folder dynamically in FTP, now we are facing the problem to integrate this IBot with the BIP report file bursting.
Can anyone suggest how to overcome this issue or is there any alternative approach to achieve the above requirement.
    Any help would be appreciated.

To answer my own question, referring to document 1J6MCMIN the error was due to the requirement for an even number of points. It would be nice if this were documented. This doesn't explain the problem where the computer locks up with a small number of points.

  • Opty-Prod Reports: Indexed columns of Opty-Prod

    Hi,
I am hoping to understand the reasons why the indexed columns of the Opty-Product object are not available for Opty-Product Report. I need to explain this to our users and I have no clue. Our users are reasonably aware of reports/analytics and the absence of indexed columns in reports is confusing.
    Any thoughts?

PR, the missing indexed fields in the Opty-Prod real-time reports is something I reported to Oracle a few months ago, their response was "thankyou for you request we'll consider this at a future date". I don't use the Indexed fields for Opty-Product I create new ones, you can't use them in lists and reporting can be pretty quick anyway so I don't see a benfit to using them. # periods and the date field is missing too ;-D
    cheers

  • CMS Reports Index

We would like to create an index page/report that shows all the reports in CMS, the folder they are located in, and a description of the report. We would like to incorporate links in the index page, so the user could simply find the report they need and click on it to take them to it. Or even better it would execute the report when clicked. Has anyone created such an index or have any ideas how to accomplish this? One would think that this would be available in infoview.

    Hello Brent,
You can't create an automatic report which would take automatically all the reports in the CMS and would display some fields.
Because it would mean to create an universe on the CMS db and it's not possible becauseit contains binary objects.
To query the CMS db, you have to use the query builder. Like that, you can get the list of reports that exist in the CMS. So, you could create an excel report with that output, but it would be a static report.
But, I am not sure why you need a report containing all the reports with their description as it's the role of the folders of infoview. If you don't want to touch your folders to reorganize them, you still have the possibility to use the categories.
I hope this will help you

  • Automatic Report Bursting based on column names given by user as parameter.

    Hi,
Could some help me achieve the following functionality. The requirement are:
    1. create a report that has parameters that are column names (display values e.g: department, location, employee job code)
    2. the end user will select one or more columns from the multi-select parameter
    3. we want that there should be a button on clicking that the user should get automatic file bursting. He should not be required to go to schedules tab and create a new job for that.
    4. the report should burst to a file location depending on the columns selected by the user, e.g. if user selected department and location then we should have files saved in the set file location as sales-india.pdf, sales-us.pdf, hr-india.pdf, hr-us.pdf and so on.
I am new to BI Publisher.
Could you help me in creating such a parameter, what should be report sql for capturing the data from parameter and then doing report bursting automatically based on two or more parameter values given by the user.
There is no need to show the report to the user in BI Publisher as there are thousands of rows in a table. Three tables join to give the employee data.
    -Priyanka

Thanks for a quick response but I am still not clear on
    1. how to do this using custom java code
    and
    2. actually user would login to interactive dashboard and there he will give these parameters using which we need to automatically burst a BI publisher report. Can this be done some how?

  • FO processing for XML Publisher Report Bursting Program

    Hello,
I am facing the following problem: if i try to burst a report using XML Publisher Report Bursting Program special characters like (ş,ţ,ă, etc.) in the resulting PDF look strange. I have tried running the report without bursting it and the characters appear just fine (after i've set the FO Processing Font Mapping). My guess is that XML Publisher Report Bursting Program is not using the right font mapping. Have you faced this problem before? Do you have any idea how to set the right font mapping for XML Publisher Report Bursting Program.
    Thank you.

So the answer was to make sure the location in the bursting file (location="xdo://schema.template_code.en.US) exactly matches the language/country setting in the uploaded Definition. Then make sure the fonts have been added to the xdo.cfg file matching what your Font Mappings are:

  • Bursting a report with multiple queries

    Hi,
I need to set-up bursting in BIP for a report with multiple queries. The output format is pdf and delivery is through e-mail. Since the queries need to be linked, I'm trying to do this using data template. I've set-up split and burst based on a field (store_id) from the first query which is used as a bind variable in the subsequent queries. So I'd ideally want the report to be split based on store_id. The report works fine if I use a parameter for store_id and view the output by store_id. When I try to schedule the report for bursting, it generates and e-mails the reports but only the last report appears to have correct data output while the others have only the output from the first query (and all other queries appear to return nothing in the report).
Any suggestions on what could be the issue here? Thanks!

    Hello user6428199,
When you use ":Q1_STORE_ID" in your queries, BI Publisher looks for a report parameter named Q1_STORE_ID. Change all your report queries to get data for all the store_id's available. As you are bursting the report using the store_id as the bursting key, BI Publisher will split the report based on the stored_id and delivers content based on it. No matter how many queries you may have, BI Publisher will loop through all the store_id's available and all the queries will return data for that particular id in a report.
    Thanks,
    Machaan

  • Email bursting send report as HTML in email body

    Hello,
I have Oracle BI Publisher 10.1.3.4.1 (build# 1101) version installed as part of Oracle Business Inteligence.
I have question about email bursting. I created simple report and I am bursting it via email. But I would like to send report in HTML as part of email body and not as attachment. I read that it is possible in other versions of BIP (as part of EBS) with using of bursting configuration file. But I can not use this file with my version of BIP, I can configure bursting only vie SQL query.
    Is there any solution?
    Thank you

    My bursting SQL query:
    SELECT DISTINCT
    ip.APPL_ID KEY,
    '11F_Search_Prospect_Email' TEMPLATE,
    'RTF' template_format,
    'en-US' locale,
    'HTML' output_format,
    'EMAIL' DEL_CHANNEL,
    ip.email PARAMETER1,
    '[email protected]' PARAMETER3,
    'Welcome' PARAMETER4,
    'true' PARAMETER6
    FROM ugrad.inquiry_prospect ip,
    ugrad.correspondence f,
    ugrad.address e,
    ugrad.f_lookup fl
    WHERE ip.appl_id = f.appl_id
    AND ip.APPL_ID = e.APPL_ID
    AND fl.TYPE_CODE='C'
    AND ip.record_stage = 'Prospect'
    AND e.COUNTRY_CODE=fl.code
    AND e.table_name = 'INQUIRY_PROSPECT'
    AND e.address_type =
    NVL ((SELECT gg.address_type
    FROM ugradadm.address gg
    WHERE gg.address_type =
    DECODE (f.mailpref,
    'Home', 'HOME',
    'Best', 'LOCAL',
    'HOME'
    AND gg.table_name = 'INQUIRY_PROSPECT'
    AND gg.APPL_ID = ip.appl_id
    AND((gg.address_type='LOCAL' AND NVL(gg.address_expir_date,sysdate)>sysdate)
    OR gg.address_type='HOME')),
    'HOME'
    AND f.batchid = :Batch_ID
This report when bursted sends an email with the layout template as html body.
The EMAIL configuration is set with a server Port number and its host address.

  • Report Bursting in BIP

I am new to BIP. We have a scheduled report that bursts different pdfs every week on friday. These pdfs are bursted to an ECM folder through WebDAV.This folder is static. But I have to burst the pdfs to a different new folder everyweek. Is there a way to create a new folder every week dynamically while bursting the pdfs? Dynamic part is the Month and date like \November2008\11-28-2008\. Or is it possible to run any shell script within the BI report to create the folder before the pdfs are bursted?
    Thanks,
