Crystal 2008 - Report Index Bursting, what is this?

The help in CR defines it as this, but could someone please elaborate.
"The Saved Data Indexes dialog box appears when you select the Report Bursting Indexes command from the Report menu.
Use this dialog box to select the fields you want indexed within your report's saved data. You can increase the performance of a Crystal report by indexing its saved data. Indexes you specify are created when you refresh the report's data."
We have some reports that are timing out, will this help?

Hello,
It may help but with reports with saved data only. What it does is some DB's and tables are not indexed for optimum reporting and if those tables are used as the report data source CR has to do the indexing which can affect performance. What the function does is build a saved data field index so when previewed the report can render the reports pages quicker.
For your issue though I doubt this will help as it would appear your problem is CR is waiting for your data to come from the database.
Some Options would be for you to add indexing to your DB or possibly using a Stored Procedure or something server side to speed up the data collection process and do most of the filtering server side rather than client side.
No info about your data source to go on so not sure what the issue may be.
Thank you

  • Are Crystal 2008 reports compatible with runtime version XI

    Hi,
    Our software incorporates Crystal runtime version XI.  We advise clients to purchase Crystal XI if they wish to modify our report templates.
    A number of clients have complained that Crystal XI is no longer available to buy.
    My query is that if we recommend Crystal 2008 and the clients modify their templates (basic reformatting edits), will these revised templates work in our application?
    Thanks.

    Dave,
    I was wondering if you could arrive at some conclusion regarding making an application (that works in Crystal XI) work with Crystal 2008. The product I am working on, works fine with Crystal XI. But now for cleints that have Crystal 2008, I was wondering what would be the best bet to make that application compatiable? Certainly we do not want to have two seperate application coded separatly for Crystal XI and Crystal 2008.
    I will appreciate any information you can share on this.
    Thanks - Prashant

  • Report Index Bursting

    My dba say's adding "report index bursting" to a long running report that's timing out in the InfoViewer will correct the problem.  The reports ran to completion when they ran on CR 9 server, but once it was migrated to CR 2008 it times out under InfoView.  I'm able to run it locally on my Oracle VM in CR 2008 without it timing out.
    I've never used "report index bursting" but it just sounds like "report caching" which I've done in SSRS 2008.

    "report index bursting" increases performance when accessign the saved data in the report but not when the report is refreshing from the database.
    How many rows does your report fetch from the database?

  • Save Crystal 2008 report as XI -- or can you run 2008 report in XI?

    Hi,
    Is it possible to save a report created in Crystal 2008 report as an XI verion?
    If not, is it possible to run a report created in Crystal 2008 report in XI and Crystal Report Server XI if none of the new features in 2008 are used?
    I want to purchase an additional copy of the application, and am trying to decide which version I can use when the bulk of the reports are run on CRS XI...
    - JD

    Good feedback, I've a couple of  things I'm still curious about...
    1. Does the warning pop up every time you open the report created in 2008 in XI?
    2. Including on the XI REPORT SERVER rather than the desktop client?
    I ask as I'm concerned that if I create reports and upload them to the XI server it'll cause no end of user annoyance if they have to click through a warning message every time the want to run/load the report.

    Jonathon,
    Thank you for reading my post and taking the time to reply.
    The report design does not have Save Data turned on.
    I moved the parameter passing before logging on to the data base - that did not fix the problem.
    Thank you again for taking the time.

  • Can not see two fields in Crystal 2008 Developer explorer/designer view

    I am currently developing crystal 2008 reports against the salesforce.com database using version 12.0.0.683 CR Developer Full version. I am using an updated driver that was provided in July or Aug 08 in order to view self referencing fields. The problem is that when I try and report against one of the tables (lead history) I cannot view two of the fields (New Value and Old Value)? I can see these two field (New Value and Old Value) in the database expert as the last two fields in the actual table, but the two fields are missing when I go into the explorer/designer view. In Salesforce, these two fields can not be filtered on, but I can export all the values in this table using Salesforece Apex data loader.

    Please re-post if this is still an issue to the OnDemand Forum or purchase a case and have a dedicated support engineer work with you directly

  • Crystal 2008 printing partial pages

    When printing from the Crystal 2008 Report Viewer, some printers do not print the entire pages (approximately 1/8 of each page prints).  When printing directly to the printer, the entire page prints.
    I have version 12.0.1100.0 of the Report Viewer.  I've had this problem reported on HP LaserJet 4, 4000, and 2300L printers.  I have not been able to duplicate this problem, but I am running in a development environment and I suspect this makes a difference.
    Has anyone else seen this problem or have some ideas for me?

    It may be those that don't work are using a different version of the print drivers.
    Get them to download the latest and test again. Or tell them to use the exact same ones you are using.

  • Path from Crystal 8.5 CRPE to Crystal 2008?

    Hi folks,
    We're working on a product that has C-style calls to the Crystal Reports Print Engine ( CRPE ) dating from back in the Crystal Reports 6/7/8 era ...and we'd like to upgrade to Crystal 2008 deployment if possible.  But we're concerned that a Crystal 2008 upgrade would force us to rewrite ( not just modify ) older C++ code that uses CRPE calls.
    1) I don't see any reference ( so far ) in Crystal 2008 development materials about the CRPE ...has the CRPE been deprecated? eliminated?  Is it dead and gone?
    2) Is there any way to produce reports from code using CRPE API calls when Crystal 2008 has been deployed?  ...Or, if the CRPE is completely gone, do we have to use an entirely different method to call reports in Crystal 2008?
    3) If we must scrap all legacy CRPE-related code, what's the simplest way to generate Crystal 2008 reports from ( non .Net ) C++ code?
    4) whichever direction is most prudent, are there white papers/help/etc we can visit that describes a suitable upgrade path for us?
    Thanks for you help...!

    Hi ReportGuy,
    Yes, No, .NET and Samples.
    Win32 app's using crpe32 has been deprecated since version 9 so no you have no option but to  upgrade now. CR XI R2 ( 11.5 ) still ships the RDC which is COM based and can be used in C++ app's but it's no longer shipped as of CR 2008 either.
    We highly recommend that you move to Visual Studio .NET and use the CR Assemblies. Using C# is not that far off of C++ but you do have to go to managed code. And no there is no simple conversion.
    .NET is the only way to go and the Best we you can do is download our samples off the Start page and web site.
    The .NET Forums has a lot of info also, samples is likely the best palce to start though.

  • Inserting table in Crystal 2008

    Do I have an option to use tables to display data . I am trying to work on crystal 2008 report, but I am unable to find option for inserting table. I had to use line/boxes for making a table format.  I tried to do best to properly aligned them uniformly but I guess still not able to do perfectly. Do I have an option in Crystal 2008 where I can use tabular structure to display my data?
    Please let me know. Thanks

    Hi,
    There is a CR2008 format called Cross-tab report. You can run the Expert to help generate a report from scratch or add one to an existing report. The x-tab report works similar to pivot tables in Excel.
    Depending on the content, this pre-defined layout may work out nicely and saves a lot of time. If not, you may have to build your own from scratch, which I have had to do because of the way the x-tab report works.
    If you are trying to line up columns of data and that is where the layout needs tweaking, display the Ruler and you can use the 'guidelines' (look like tab markers in Word - little gray arrows) to align your cells. You may also want to check your Options setting (under "File") to see if 'snap to grid' is active or not as this can making aligning cells more difficult. I always remove 'snap to grid' and set 'grid size' to 0.01in, smallest setting. Once I have the report done, then I apply any lines/boxes as it can make it very troublesome to have to make changes once they're added.

  • Word issues with upgradeing reports built in 10 to crystal 2008

    We have a bunch of reports that were built and running with 10. We are trying to upgrade our servers to run with crystal 2008. The reports built in 10 have been working when run with the crystal 2008 runtime. With the exception of a problem when opening a report in word. I have figured out if I change the page set up in word to be landscape the report will now show fine. Also if i edit the actual rpt to be much narrower than the original, it will execute correctly in word. Has anyone else had this problem? Word will run very slow and there will be blank pages in between a multi page document.

    Hi Bill,
    Not sure what version you are using, get SP1. In the report designer if you got the Page Setup options try checking on Dissociate Formatting Page....
    If you are using RAS and SP1 you can do this in code something like this:
    System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument pDoc = new System.Drawing.Printing.PrintDocument();
    PrintReportOptions rasPROpts = new CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.Controllers.PrintReportOptionsClass();
    CrystalDecisions.ReportAppServer.ReportDefModel.PrintOptions MYPRTOpts = new PrintOptionsClass();
    if (rdoCurrent.Checked)
                    pDoc.PrinterSettings.PrinterName = cboCurrentPrinters.Text;
                    MYPRTOpts.PrinterName = cboCurrentPrinters.Text;
                    MYPRTOpts.PaperSize = (CrPaperSizeEnum)
                             pDoc.PrinterSettings.PaperSizes[cboCurrentPaperSizes.SelectedIndex].Kind;
                    MYPRTOpts.PaperSource = (CrPaperSourceEnum)
                             pDoc.PrinterSettings.PaperSources[cboCurrentPaperTrays.SelectedIndex].Kind;
         // added the below line to verify the changes work.
                    MYPRTOpts.PaperOrientation = CrPaperOrientationEnum.crPaperOrientationLandscape;
                    // new API added to allow changing printing options
                    MYPRTOpts.DissociatePageSizeAndPrinterPaperSize = true;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Left = 1;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Right = 1;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Top = 1;
                    MYPRTOpts.PageMargins.Bottom = 1;
    Thank you

  • Upgraded to Crystal 2008 - one of my reports now has no data

    Upgraded to Crystal 2008, now at (12.3.0.601).
    However one of my reports (which was previously developed in Crystal X1) is now coming up blank.
    I've tested the data on the previous system and the report comes back correctly so there is not an issue with data.
    The report is built using XML Schema files and assigning the datasource from VS2008.
    When the application is built with Crystal X1, this works fine.
    I've refreshed the report using crystal 2008 but no good.
    Other reports which use SP's as the source are working fine!
    Any suggestions?

    Thanks for the quick response.
    What I mean by 'I refreshed the report in Crystal 2008' is that I opened the report in Crystal 2008 and verified it.
    I did not have to do this with the other reports.
    I cannot test this in the designer as the data gets assigned from the application.
    However, the old version of the report with the same data works fine.
    Note - there are no error message. The report displays with no data.
    There are no code change made so everything points to the report which is strange.
    Other reports work correctly but this one is different as it uses XML source.
    Thanks.

  • Reports with subreports take longer to preview in Crystal 2008 Viewer

    Previewing reports containing one or more subreports within a .NET application using the 2008 Windows Forms Crystal Report Viewer control takes much longer than running those same reports from the XI R2 viewer.  This occurs because the report will run a subreport for all pages before the report shows the first page.  In Crystal XI R2, the report would run the subreport for only the first page and only retrieve additional data for that subreport when scrolling to subsequent pages.  Is there a way we can ensure that a subreport only runs for the first page before it previews the first page?

    Hello Darin
    2008 Windows Forms Crystal Report Viewer control takes much longer than running those same reports from the XI R2 viewer
    - What exactly is the difference? In some instances one or two seconds are considered undesirable...
    - How does the performance of the report compare when you run it in the CR designer?
    - What CR Service Pack are you on?
    - Place a check mark at the following report options:
    "No Printer"
    "Dissociate Formatting Page Size and Printer Paper Size"
    "Verify on First Print"
    "Verify Stored Procedures on First Print"
    If your subreports are set to "Re-import", turn this option off.
    This occurs because the report will run a subreport for all pages before the report shows the first page.
    - I do not think this is correct. What is this conclusion based on?

  • Installing Crystal Reports 2008 fix pack 2.6 is breaking Crystal 2008 exe.

    I have a package created to deploy Crystal 2008.  I have included in my package SP1 and SP2 and that all works great.  However, the issue is when I push fix pack 2.6, once that is pushed, and done running, then I try and open up Crystal 2008 I get an error that says, the exe can't be found or is corrupt, try to reinstall the program again.  I can get the fix pack 2.6 to work fine when I manually install it.  Is this an issue because fix pack 2.6 has to self extract first?
    Please let me know what I can do to get everything working in the package, so I don't have to manually run the fix pack 2.6 manually.
    Thank you.

    What you are doing is not supported at all and may be a violation of the licensing. For users to get Crystal Reports Designer they must purchase a copy from SAP sales only unless you are an OEM partner and licensed to distribute in this way.
    In all cases though we don't support building your own MSI in this way, only for distributing the runtime for an application you wrote. Installing Crw32.exe must be done from one of our CD's.
    Please explain why you are building the MSI this way and if you are OEM Partner? If you are an OEM who is Account Manager here?

  • Issue loading Crystal XI reports with Visual Studio 2008

    Hi:
    I'm converting a Visual Studio 2003 web application to Visual Studio 2008. The application has a lot of reports designed with Crystal XI and I cannot open then from VS 2008. I have tried two ways so far:
    1_ Using Crystal 2008 Basic that bundle with VS 2008: Since the Data source for the reports is Oracle and that version of Crystal (10.5) doesnu2019t bring Oracle support then I keep getting the error related to u2018crdb_oracle.dllu2019 while exporting the report to pdf format.
    2_ Using the Crystal XI assemblies: I keep getting an error stating that Crystal XI is not compatible with VS 2008.
    What is the solution here to warranty a smooth transition? Some people are suggesting installing Crystal XI R2 but Iu2019m really not sure what to do. I also installed the run time version of Crystal Report 2008 SP1 (msi) but I didnu2019t find the way to add the reference to my VS 2008 project to try that way.
    Thanks in advanceu2026

    Not just the runtime - where would you get it without breaking licensing? You have to have a valid copy of CR 2008 and install it. No worries about unistalling CR 10.5 - .NET 2008 will automatically use the latest files.
    Re. Oracle support. That is correct. The crdb_oracle.dll does not ship with any versions of CR that bundle with .NET. You could go ODBC or OLE DB though.
    Not sure what you mean;
    Can the CRRuntime_12.x be bundle to VS 2008 just like the Basic version does?
    But as I mentioned above, you must obtain a copy of CR 2008. A 30 day eval is available from here;
