Report Object in Forms 6i

Hi all,
Can anybody please enlighten me about the Report object in the object navigator of Forms 6i. Why that object is present and in what way we can use it effectively.
Thanks in advance
Krishna

This object exisits so you can easly integrate oracle report's reports into your form and run them using the new run_report_object builtin.
You can learn more about oracle reports on otn.oracle.com/products/reports
and you can also read more on the reports and forms integration in that site.

    could some one please post me a code sample to show how to call a (paper layout, RDF) Report from Forms if I would like it to display the Report's parameter form first?
    Thank you in advance.

    I used the following code segment do achieve the job, but I get "REP-546: Warning: The value of restricted LOV parameter P_ALAL is not among the selectable values" message, even though I would like to specify the P_ALAL value on the report's parameter Form.
    declare
    paramlist_id ParamList;
    tmp_riport_name varchar2(200);
    report_id          report_object;

    tmp_id number;
    begin

    tmp_riport_name := null;

    paramlist_id := get_parameter_list('mytmp_params');
    if not id_null(paramlist_id) then
    destroy_parameter_list(paramlist_id);
    end if;
    paramlist_id := Create_Parameter_List('mytmp_params');
    add_parameter( paramlist_id, 'PARAMFORM', TEXT_PARAMETER, 'YES' );
              -- call report
    report_id := find_report_object( 'DUMMY' );
    if report_id.id is null then
         return;
    end if;
    -- display

    set_report_object_property( report_id, report_comm_mode, synchronous );
    set_report_object_property( report_id, report_destype, 'preview' );
    set_report_object_property( report_id, report_desformat, 'PDF' );
    set_report_object_property( report_id, report_server, 'rep_geoias' );
         set_report_object_property( report_id, report_filename, :ALAP_REPORTS_NAME||'.rep' );
    report_job_id := run_report_object( report_id, paramlist_id );
    tmp_id := to_number(substr( report_job_id, length(name_in('rep_geoias'))+2 ));
    web.show_document( '/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||tmp_id||'?server=rep_geoias', '_blank' );
    END;

    I think you specified report object name incorrect.
    in command line:
    repid := FIND_REPORT_OBJECT('REPORT1');
    Report1 must be name of report object in Form Builder.
    However to call report from Oracle Form you must do more work. For example:
    - Create report server name
    - Adding some code to set property for report object base on report server you created.

  • Calling Reports from Forms, and creating Reports objects

    Hello I'm trying to create a Form which lists and launches all of our Reports. In our Client/Server set up we just have a Form which is based on a lookup table of Reports. When the user selects a report on the Form RUN_PRODUCT is used to call the report.
    In Forms 9, do I have to create a Report object in the Form for every Report in our system and do I really have to modify the Form every time a new Report is created to add the new Report in?

    Hello,
    <p>No, one single report object could fit for any report, if you modify its properties at runtime.<br>
    For information, I have written a Forms 9i module able to run any report with 0 up to 10 parameters</p>
    <p>Hope this helps</p>

  • Problem on running a Report from a Form

    Hi,
    we are using Oracle Forms & Reports runtime and builder 6.0.8.22.1, Database Version is 9.2.
    We have a Production, Pre-Live and Testenvironment all the same Database architecture.
    Problem Description:
    We created a Form with some input fields and a button for creating a report. This button creats via a pl/sql script a report object and run the report.
    This works fine on production system with calling the formsruntime with parameter userid=scott/tiger@productionserver. When we calling the completly same script, only we change the userid on "userid=scott/tiger@testserver" the forms would work fine but the report generating failed.
    The Forms and Reports are compiled against the production environment.
    Where could be the problem, it's all the same only we change the connection string.
    There are any connection information in the compiled fmx or rep file.
    Where get the Report_Object the connection information.
    Best Regards
    Markus

    Markus,
    Reports gets the connect string implicitly from Forms. This means that the way you conenct Forms to the database is the account your run Reports with. Have you double checked that you weren't passing the userid somewhere in your code?

    Hi,
    You have to have the report server
    a. Installed and configured
    b. Running.
    See
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_strt001.htm
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_verify004.htm
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17904_01/bi.1111/b32121/pbr_conf003.htm#i1007341
    If you are using rwservlet then you will find the name from the Configuration file referred to in the last link.
    Cheers,

  • Calling report from a form with user input parameters

    Hello,
    I am new to Oracle reports. I have an application coded in 6i. I am currently running the application in Oracle Forms Builder 9i. There are also few reports which are called from the forms. Since the application was developed in 6i, the report was called using Run_Product. The forms pass a set of user parameters to the report using the parameter list pl_id. The syntax used was Run_Product(REPORTS, 'D:\Report\sales.rdf', SYNCHRONOUS, RUNTIME,FILESYSTEM, pl_id, NULL);
    I learnt that the Run_product doesnt work in 9i and we need to use run_report_object. I have changed the code to use run_report_object and using web.show_document () i am able to run the report from the form. There are 2 parameters that need to be passed from forms to reports. The parameters are from_date and to_date which the user will be prompted to enter on running the form. In the report, the initial values for these parametes are defined. So, the report runs fine for the initial value always. But when i try to change the user inputs for the form_date and to_date, the report output doesnt seem to take the new values, instead the old report with the initial values(defined in the report) runs again.
    Can someone give me the code to pass the user defined parameters to the report from the forms? I have defined a report object in the forms node as REPTEST and defined a parameter list pl_id and added form_date and to_date to pl_id and used the following coding:
    vrepid := FIND_REPORT_OBJECT ('REPTEST');
    vrep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT (vrepid,pl_id);
    But this doesnt work.
    Also, Should the parameters defined in the forms and reports have the same name?

    Thanks for the quick response Denis.
    I had referred to the document link before and tried using the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT_PROC procedure and ENCODE functions as given in the doc and added the following SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY in the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT_PROC :
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_OTHER,' FROM_DATE='||:BLK_INPUT.FROM_DATE||' TO_DATE='||:BLK_INPUT.TO_DATE||' paramform=no');
    But this also dint work. Please help me understand what difference does setting paramform=no OR paramform=yes make?
    In the report, i have defined the user parameters as FROM_DATE and TO_DATE respectively so that they match the form datablock BLK_INPUT items FROM_DATE and TO_DATE.
    My WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED trigger is as below:
    DECLARE

    In the code - " hidden_action := hidden_action ||'&'|| v_report_other; " in the RUN_REPORT_OBJECT_PROC procedure above, how do i make sure that the v_report_other variable reflects the user input parameters FROM_DATE and TO_DATE ??? v_report_other is initialised as v_report_other VARCHAR2(4000) :=''; in the procedure. Will ensuring that the v_report_other contains the user input parameters FROM_DATE and TO_DATE ensure that my report will run fine for the input parameters?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Calling a Report from a Form

    I have uploaded my form to the app server and compiled to Linux. I have copied my RDF file to the reports_path/demo directory. I can run the report via a link from our portal using the URL as follows:
    /reports/rwservlet?report=IndRpt.rdf&desformat=pdf&destype=cache&userid=' target="_blank"
    That opens the report in a separate window, which is what we want. So far, so good.
    I can run the form via a link from our portal as well using the URL as follows:
    /forms/frmservlet?config=bsc_ind
    The config section hides all the form parameters very nicely.
    In the portal, I created a Report Server Access portlet, REP_OMHAST2_MIDTIER, and use the following set_report_object calls in my form:
    repid := find_report_object('IndRep');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTYrepid,REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE,BATCH);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTYrepid,REPORT_COMM_MODE,SYNCHRONOUS);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESTYPE,CACHE);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'PDF');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTYrepid,REPORT_SERVER,'rep_omhast2_midtier');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_OTHER,ls_param);
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid);
    rep_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(v_rep);
    WHILE rep_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED') LOOP
    rep_status := report_object_status(v_rep);
    END LOOP;
    IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' THEN
    /*Display report in the browser*/
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://omhast2.omh.state.ny.us:7777/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||
    substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server=rep_omhast2_midtier ','_blank');
    All that comes right out of the white paper.
    Now here's the weird part, I have never seen this before. When I click my "Show Report" button in my form, the report seems to be running, but then I get a very strange dark grey, square icon superimposed over my mouse pointer. The icon has a small yellow "starburst" pattern with a tiny red exclamation point inside. The report does not appear on screen.
    Incidentally, all of this works correctly when I run the same scenario on my workstation using the call to rwserver as: rwserver server=rep_omhast2_midtier. But when we port it to the app server, it does not run. I think it has to be in the way the form calls the report because the report will run as a stand-alone object.
    Anything apparent to anyone out there?

    Well, it looks like I stumped the band. And with good reason. Sorry for the error. The problem was that the user running the form and the report had a pop-up blocker that was blocking the report. The form and the report ran from another machine. I allowed pop-ups from the report's URL and that enabled the report to appear.
    So, here we have another example of how to call a report from a form. Again, I am sorry for any angst this may have caused.

  • Urgent: Calling Reports from Oracle Forms 10g (10.1.2.0.2) fails

    Problem displaying a report from within Oracle 10g forms.
    After a lot of work, we are able to access and actually display a report directly from Internet explorer and view the report from the report server as well.
    The successful url was:
    http://york.vrc.virginia.gov:7778/reports/rwservlet
    ?report=/u01/app/oracle/produ ct/vrcmidtier/reports/vrc/pmw41051.rdf
    &userid=vrcpr/vrcpr@vrctest&destype=cache&desformat=HTML
    The form displays correctly back to the screen
    When executing from within the form, however, the report runs but does not display back to the screen.
    Forms Steps so far:
    created a report object called pmw41050
    static parameters are:
    file name: /u01/app/oracle/product/vrcmidtier/reports/vrc/pmw41051.rdfination format
    execution mode: batch
    communication mode: synchronous
    destination name; null
    destination format: HTML
    reportserver:: vrc_york_midtier
    Built a when button pressed trigger as follows:
    declare
    l_report_file varchar2(200);
    l_report_id REPORT_OBJECT;
    l_report_status varchar2(200);
    begin
    -- capture the report
    l_report_file := 'pmw41051';
    l_report_id := find_report_object(l_report_file);
    -- set the parameters for this output
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE, BATCH);
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_COMM_MODE, SYNCHRONOUS);
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_DESTYPE, CACHE);
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_DESFORMAT, 'PDF');
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_SERVER, 'rep_york_vrcmidtier');
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_OTHER, 'PARAMFORM=NO');
    set_report_object_property(l_report_id, REPORT_DESNAME, 'DESNAME');
    -- and run the report
    l_report_status := run_report_object(l_report_id);
    -- monitor progress
    while l_report_status in ('RUNNING', 'OPENING_REPORT', 'ENQUEUED') loop
    l_report_status := report_object_status(l_report_status);
    end loop;
    message('back from the report'); -- test message for return
    end;
    The report executes without error (as indicated by the message on the last line) but does NOT display back to the screen
    checking the rwservlet/showjobs verifies the report completed and the reportcan be displayed from there.
    So, bottom line: how to make a 10g form call report and display it on the screen?

    Thanks MIke for your feedback...
    Will this surfice?

  • FRM-41213 When calling report from a form using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT

    Hi,
    I get an error frm-41214:unable to connect to the report server when i am trying to call a report from a form using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT.
    My code is as follows:
    I have created a simple report using employee table such tht when i give the department number as parameter it should get the corresponding details along with that i also have highlited the system parameters:
    DESFORMAT
    DESNAME
    DESTYPE
    also other user parameters as
    p_action
    p_servername
    p_user_connect
    and in the before parameter form trigger the following code:
    function BeforePForm return boolean is
    vc_parameter_form VARCHAR2(4000);
    vc_hidden_runtime_values VARCHAR2(1000);
    vc_report_name VARCHAR2(100);
    begin
    IF (:P_ACTION = '_action_') THEN
         vc_hidden_runtime_values := '_hidden_';
    ELSE
         srw.get_report_name(vc_report_name);
              vc_hidden_runtime_values:='report='||vc_report_name||'&destype='||:destype||'&desformat='
    ||:desformat||'&userid='||:p_user_connect||'&server='||:p_servername;
    END IF;
    vc_parameter_form:='<html><body bgcolor="#ffffff"><form method=post action="'
    ||:P_ACTION||'">'||'<input name="hidden_run_parameters" type=hidden value="'
    ||vc_hidden_runtime_values||'">'||'<center><p><table border=0 cellspacing=0 cellpadding=0><tr><td>'
    ||'<input type=submit></td><td width=15><td><input type=reset></td>'||'</tr></table><p><hr><p>';
                        srw.set_before_form_html(srw.text_escape,vc_parameter_form);
    return (TRUE);
    end;
    After this i created a form with department table as my datablock:
    I created a report object in the form with name REPORT6.
    -Created a procedure in the form with the following code
    PROCEDURE RUN_REPORT_OBJECT_PROC(report_id REPORT_OBJECT,reportserver VARCHAR2,runformat VARCHAR2) IS
    report_message VARCHAR2(100);
    rep_status VARCHAR2(100);
    vc_user_name VARCHAR2(100);
    vc_user_password VARCHAR2(100);
    vc_user_connect VARCHAR2(100);
    vc_connect VARCHAR2(300);
    BEGIN
    vc_user_name:=get_application_property(username);
    vc_user_password:=get_application_property(password);
    vc_user_connect:=get_application_property(connect_string);
    vc_connect:=vc_user_name||'/'||vc_user_password||'@'||vc_user_connect;
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE,BATCH);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_COMM_MODE,ASYNCHRONOUS);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_DESTYPE,CACHE);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_DESFORMAT,runformat);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_SERVER,reportserver);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_OTHER,'p_deptno='
    ||:Dept.Deptno
    ||' paramform=yes P_USER_CONNECT='
    ||vc_connect||' P_SERVERNAME='||reportserver
    ||' P_ACTION=http://iitv-1:8888/reports/rwservlet?');
    report_message:=run_report_object(report_id);
    rep_status := report_object_status(report_message);
    WHILE rep_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED')LOOP
    rep_status := report_object_status(report_message);
    END LOOP /* Wait for Report to be finished */;
    IF rep_status='FINISHED' then
    web.show_document('http://iitv-1:8888/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||
    substr(report_message,instr(report_message,'_',-1)+1)||'?server'
    ||reportserver,'_blank');
    ELSE
    message (rep_status||' Report output aborted');
    END IF;
    END;
    I created a press button and in the when_button_pressed trigger i added the following code:
    declare
         repid REPORT_OBJECT;
         repserver VARCHAR2(100);
         runformat VARCHAR2(10);
    BEGIN
         repid := find_report_object('REPORT6');
         repserver := 'rep_iitv-1';
         runformat := 'HTML';
         run_report_object_proc(repid,repserver,runformat);
         END;
    Then tried to run the form but i got this error frm-41213 unable to connect to the report server.
    Any one please help me.

    Run_report_object can't work with forms9i

  • FRM-41214: Unable ro run report while calling a report from a form in 9iDS

    Am in the process of migrating from Developer 6i client/server to Developer 9iDS on Windows 2000.
    I have read through the various postings on this issue & have made changes accordingly. I also referred to the white paper on the Forms/Reports integration.
    As I am trying to do a prototype, am compiling my forms/reports on my local machine & not on the apps. server.
    I installed a report server on my local machine as,
    rwserver -install 9irep
    I have defined this as a NT service and it is up & running & so is my OC4J instance.
    I have defined a reports object in my Form Builder & set Report Server=9irep,
    Destype=Cache,
    Execution mode=runtime
    Communication_mode=synchronous.
    I also removed the /security tag from the <report server>.conf file as suggested in the white paper. Also set the single sign-on to NO for the reports service.
    I have replaced my run_product with the run_report_object built-in as follows.
    Declare
    report_id      REPORT_OBJECT;
    report_status VARCHAR2(255);
    rep_job_id      VARCHAR2(255);
    Begin
    report_id := FIND_REPORT_OBJECT('KS'); --Created in form under node "Reports"
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(report_id,REPORT_FILENAME,'C:\Kalpana\9i_Prototype\ISSMDLCUST.rdf');
    rep_job_id := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(report_id);
    report_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(rep_job_id);
    WHILE report_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED')
    LOOP
    report_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(rep_job_id);
    END LOOP;
    message(report_status); pause;
    IF report_status='FINISHED' THEN
    Web.Show_Document('http://houwdisndgd01:8888/reports/server/getjobid='
    ||rep_job_id||'?server=ks');
    END IF;
    End;
    I get an error message "FRM 41214: Unable to run report" right after the call to run_report_object.
    Can someone please tell me where am going wrong with my run_report_object built-in? (I also need help writing my web.show document to point it to my local machine/folders).
    Thanks
    Kalpana

    How I have implemented the same and works
    Local OC4J is running.
    I established a reports server "repserver90" as a service.
    I created a report named "C:\TMP\TMP\test_report.rdf"
    I created a form with a Reports object with properties:
    Name: "EMP"
    Filename: "C:\TMP\TMP\test_report.rdf"
    Execution mode "Batch"
    Communication mode "Sychronous"
    Report Destination Type "Cache"
    Report Destination Format "HTML"
    Report Server "repserver90"
    I call the report with the procedure:
    PROCEDURE TEST_REPORT IS
    repid REPORT_OBJECT;
    v_rep VARCHAR2(100);
    rep_status VARCHAR2(20);
    BEGIN
    repid := find_report_object('EMP');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE,BATCH);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_COMM_MODE,SYNCHRONOUS);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESTYPE,CACHE);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_DESFORMAT,'html');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_SERVER,'repserver90');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid,REPORT_OTHER,'paramform=no pdeptno='||:dept.deptno);
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid);
    rep_status := REPORT_OBJECT_STATUS(v_rep);
    WHILE rep_status in ('RUNNING','OPENING_REPORT','ENQUEUED')
    LOOP
    rep_status := report_object_status(v_rep);
    END LOOP;
    IF rep_status = 'FINISHED' THEN
    /*Display report in the browser*/
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://localhost:8888/reports/rwservlet/getjobid'||substr(v_rep,instr(v_rep,'_',-1)+1)||'?'||'server=repserver90','_blank');
    ELSE
    message('Error when running report');
    END IF;
    END;

  • 10g - report object - filename property length limit

    I am posting this in the hopes that I can stop someone from beating their head against their desk for a couple of days like I did.
    In 10g forms (9.0.4.2.0), for a report object, there seems to be a limit to the length of the filename property - 79 characters. When it hits 80 characters, at runtime I get a "FRM-92101: There was a failure in the Forms Server during startup. This could happen due to invalid configuration"... error. Clicking the details button will show expanded info indicating a java exception "oracle.forms.net.ConnectionException: Forms session <x> aborted: unable to communicate with runtime process".
    It would be nice if help for the filename property could include the length limit.
    Gary

    Thanks for your attention.
    Gary
    P.S. Thanks also for your write-up and javabean code on your blog regarding how to open a report in a new window with titlebar, etc disabled. Works like a charm.

  • How to transport the report object from development clint to quality clint

    any body knows different ways of transferring  report object  from  development clint to quality clint.pse send ...

    Hi..
    LSMW:
    There are 2 ways for transporting LSMW data from a system to another.
    Export/import this method gives you the opportunity to select the subprojects or objects you want to transfer. LSMW -> Extras -> Export project
    Transport request with this method, you can transport a LSMW project in full (you can not select the objects you want). With this method, the project will be transported as any other SAP object in a transport order. LSMW -> Extras -> Create change request
    Program variants
    If you have several program variants in a development system that you want to transport, use the following method to transport them:
    Execute program 'RSTRANSP' (via se38) and inform the program and/or variant names (you can transport variant of several programs in one shot).
    Layout
    In some transactions, one can save layout of the screen (sort, filter, ... criteria).
    These layouts can be transported: In the required transaction, when your layouts have been saved, go to Settings -> Layout -> Layout Management. Select the desired layouts and go to Layout -> Transport... There you can add your layouts in existing TO or create a new one.
    Database data
    In some unusual cases, you might have to transport data of a SAP table.
    Go to transaction SE16, select your entries and go to Table entry -> Transport entries. It's only possible for some tables...
    If you cannot do it that way,you have to create a Workbench transport order with transaction SE10. When created, click on it, go in menu Request/task -> Object list -> Display object list.
    Go in modification mode and add a new line with:
    PgmID = R3TR
    Obj = TABU
    Object name = Name of your table
    Double-click on the created line and, depending on your need, put '*' in the key field or double-click on it and select the key you need to transport.
    Queries
    Queries, datasets and user groups can be exported/imported between the systems using the Program RSAQR3TR.
    Report template (ALV variants)
    There is a button or somewhere in the menu Change/Select/Save/Manage Layout.
    Go to Manage Layout, than Layout menu/ Transport.
    SAPSCRIPT Files Transport
    Use the program RSTXSCRP to upload and Download the SAPSCRIPT files to different systems
    Transport SAPSCRIPT
    Use the Program RSWBO052 to create the Transport Request for a SAPSCRIPT, In the Selection screen of the program, give R3TR – FORM – Give the Form name and press Execute button, it will ask the Development Class and the transport Request No.
    Standard texts
    Standard texts used in SAPScript(created with transaction SO10) can be included in transport orders. You have to create a Workbench transport order with transaction SE10. When created, click on it, go in menu Request/task -> Object list -> Display object list. Go in modification mode and add a new line with:
    PgmID = R3TR
    Obj = TEXT
    Object name = TEXT,,ST,
    Example :
    R3TR / TEXT / TEXT,YMM_MEDRUCK_MAIN_16_EC,ST,F
    Reward if useful
