Report refresh problem

Hi all!
Just wanted to ask your advice because my own attempts have failed.
The problem is as follows: in our application we have a report generation system, built using cr4eclipse jars. The report engine is used to generate PDFs from people profile templates. It is running inside Tomcat.
The profile data populated are, for instance, first name/last name, email, phone, etc. If somebody of our team changes some profile items in the DB, we expect all users to see the changes in the generated PDF report. But it does not get refreshed until application server restart.
Here's what we've already tried to do to alleviate the problem:
1. setEnableVerifyOnEveryPrint(true);
2. Recreating ReportClientDocument instance each time report is generated;
3. Delete all files in /tomcat/temp folder, because we've noticed that CR engine puts lots of files there, generated pdfs among those;
4. Invoking Session.invalidate() on top of the JSP that triggers report generation.
Can someone please assist in solving this issue?

Hi,
Open the Crystal report in the designer and go to report options "verify on first refresh" is checked or unchecked?
revert and re-deploy the report in your application.
Let me know what happens then?
Are you exporting pdf to disk?

are you talking about the database table caching? if so we are using OLAP cubes and I am not sure if caching is disabled. Is my issue related to caching? also another updated if I have just one dashboard prompt for example just year only report 1 refreshes and the report 2 doesn't disappear. But when I add state dashboard prompt, which ever prompt I change state or year both reports refreshes. The problem is when I add more than one prompt on the dashboard all the reports refreshes when the dashboard prompt selection changes. Any ideas.

OBI Report Refresh automation

Hi All
I am having Oracle Data Integrator as ELT tool and Oracle Business Intelligence as reporting tool. Both are in Linux servers.
I want to automate the report refreshal. My plan for this automation is as below:
When ODI load gets completed, touch a file in my ODI server which will be FTPed to my OBI Server and let the report refresh starts.
However, I have doubt about how to make OBI report refreshing as event based/file based?
Any help/Sugesstion is most welcome as I am stuck up in this point.

The problem with this soultion is that what happens if the ETL was not completed at that time?.
For example,
i am scheduling Report A to be refreshed by 0400 assuming the ETL gets completed by 0345 or atleast by 0359. If at some unavoidable circumstances if my ETL load got failed or it gets completed by say 0430, then as per my scheduling the report will be refreshed by 0400 which is not correct.
So I want to have something like, once my ETL load gets completed, I will touch a file/make an entry in table. I want the OBI refresh to be like event based such that only when that file is made/entry is made my report refresh should be initiated.
Its something like event based trigger as we have in BO. Kindly suggest your soultion.

Report Refresh Issue coming in 3.1

Hi,
We had BO migration to 3.1 recently from 2.0 and started facing one issue
I am trying to pass parameter 2 date parameter through Hyperlink called through a BO Java SDK but does not want the report to get refreshed but want the prompt screen to show up having these 2 dates to come up.
The below hyperlink was working fine in 2.0 and the prompt screen was coming up fine and we can modify the report dates
to choose another date
/OpenDocument/opendoc/openDocument.jsp?iDocID=234436&sType=wid&sWindow=Same&token=(server address)&sRefresh=Y&lsSStartDate:=01/01/2006 12:00:00 AM&lsSEndDate:=09/29/2010 10:00:00 PM
But when for this hyperlink now in 3.1, the report gets refreshed and prompt window does not come.
I tried to give refresh=N, but still the report refreshs without displaying the prompt screen
Is there some settings changes in the new BO SDK which needs to be done to stop the report to refresh even when we pass the parameters?

Hi Rahul,
Which SP is? In 3.1 SP3 sWindow parameter is obsolete, I´m not sure it is your problem, but maybe you can try without sWindow.
Another question:
Do you have any default value in the prompts?
Is it a webi prompt or a universe prompt?

Unnecessary Report refresh on the dashboard when changing the dashboard prompts

Hello All
I have two reports on a dashboard with two dashboard prompts for example Report 1) Year, State, Count; Filter: Year is prompted 2) Year, State, Count; FIlter: State is prompted. On the dashboard we have two reports Report1) and Report 2) with Year and State dashboard prompts.
The issue is when you change year prompt both the reports gets refreshed even though nothing changes on report 2 but it still dissapears and appears as it is refreshing and the same happens with report 1 when i change the state prompt it refreshes that report.
Please letme know how i can limit the dashboard prompt to refresh only the report where it is prompted.

Row ranges 1-15, 16-30 in select list has refresh problem

Hi, Gurus:
I use APEX 4.1.1 with Oracle 11GR2. I have a question that was discussed before here, but I still have trouble to understand it. I have some reports that cannot refresh content when I choose another page of the same report. I used row ranges 1-15, 16-30 in select list with pagination. It did not work. However, I used the exactly same report page settings for some other queries producing exactly same columns, except the query logic is slightly different thus number of rows in report are different. row ranges 1-15, 16-30 in select list with pagination works well in other reports.
I came across discussions and set partial page refresh to no for those report pages with refreshment problem. This time it worked well, but it was extremely slow as my query is very slow. I was wondering why some of report do not need to set partial page refresh to no and have no problem to refresh, but some of reports have problem to refresh (I even copied the report page without problem for those reports with problem and just change queries.)? Is there any other way to refresh these reports quicker other than SQL tuing?
Please help me.

Are you using 'Refresh on Load' or triggering the refresh from another component? I don't think your question is clear, are you receiving the data from QaaWS in the Xcelsius model? Can you comsume the WSDL in another application to verify the SOAP messages are being sent back and forth from the Web Services.

I set up again until i reach the apple id and password.
I put my below apple ID and password to unlock my ipad but it didn't work. The message i receive is "the apple ID cannot be used to unlock this Ipad.
What will I do? Please help.

1. It is never a good idea to include personal info like your email address or Apple ID in a post on an open forum.
2. The email you received DOES NOT say your Apple ID cannot be used to unlock this iPad. The email informs you that your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad. Fortunately the iPad is yours. The message confirms that. If your Apple ID was used to unlock an iPad that was not yours your would then know to change your password. Since the iPad is yours you do not need to change your password.

How can I report a problem with downloading?

I purchased a rather long album and halfway through downloading it gave me the message, "We could not complete your istore request. The network connection timed out. Error 8003." The only guidance it offers is to check the network connection. Nothing wrong there. Now I can get into the store and the balance of the album no longer shows up under downloads, just old stuff that really shouldn't even be there. I went into my account, and under purchase history clicked onto "Report a problem." All I got out of that is the same page minus the report a problem button.
I'm frankly sick of this iphone and all the problems I've encountered with their upgrade failures, but this disappearig report a problem just tells me they really don't want to hear from you and no one is minding the store.
Any other places to report a problem? Or advice onto how to get the missing songs?

How long after you report a problem does it take for the fix to be picked up in maps? The street I live on is misspelled. It's shown as one word, but it should be two words. Maps cannot find the address when it is spelled correctly, so I have it purposely misspelled it as one word in my contacts, which helps for the most part, however it still tries to place my home on an entirely different street all together. Fortunately this new random street is at least close to where I live. When I used to spell my street correctly with two words, maps would try to send me to the next town over. So it kind of works, as long as I misspell my street, and ignore the fact that it is showing where I live to be a couple of streets down from where I actually live. I live in Connecticut - not in the most populated of areas, but not in the middle of nowhere either. Amazingly enough Google Maps will correctly find my address whether it's spelled with one words or two words. Google Maps also shows my apartment complex, which Apple Maps does not. I really wish Apple would just do a quick pass of the area to fix these issues. I’ve reported the problem several times, months ago. How long will it take for there to be a fix? I keep trying to use the Apple ecosystem, but Google is clearly the better solution for me.

Apple does not do the GIS data for maps. That comes from 3rd party vendors like Tom Tom. I have read it takes some time to update map data. The only thing you can do is report it.
Not to belittle your complaint, but on my end it is Apple that is clearly better. When looking at my house in Google, the satellite photo is more than 4 years old, and the Apple one is much newer. I can tell because of the condition of my home and the neighbor's. They had an above ground pool which was removed 4 years ago and it shows on the Google Map. I had remodeling and roof work done to my home that started 3 years ago and Apple's satellite view showed this work done, which took over a year to complete. I live in the middle of a block in a rural town. Both Apple and Google split the block into 100 parts and put my home close to the beginning of the block instead of where it actually sits. I've reported it to both Google and Apple and no one has changed. Just one of those things. But, keep your chin up, it will get corrected eventually.

Sub Report Performance problem

Our current software configuration is Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 (10.0.2531.0) where our data is housed. Our User Interface is Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 (Visual Basic) and Microsoft .NET 3.5 SP1 platform. We use Crystal Reports 2008 (12.0.0.683) to do our reporting.
We upgraded from Crystal Reports XI and our reports are taking a long time to render?... Is there any evidence of other companies experiencing this trouble? Are there any degraded performance issues when moving from XI to 2008?
In some cases we utilizing a small simple sub report.

Hi Billy,
Subreports in detail sections are never a good idea. Example, you have 100 records returned int he main report and if that field is your subreport link it causes the subreport to run 100 times. Your database is being queried 101 times.
Also, the default time out for database is typically 1 minute, could be you need to verify your report and database so CR can "clean up" any wrong pointers.
It's always better to do the data collection server side if and when possible, after all that's what they do best.
Not much detail to go on so I can't say if it's a report design problem other than the above or not. It could be also that .NET takes time to load all of the CR assemblies so depending on how you have your app configured depends on the delay. If you load a dummy report when your starts up to pre-load CR runtime then subsequent reports will be much faster.
Also check off all of the Verify Database options, you may be telling CR to verify each time which on big databases can cause a delay also.

Interactive report performance problem over database link - Oracle Gateway

Hello all;
This is regarding a thread Interactive report performance problem over database link that was posted by Samo.
The issue that I am facing is when I use Oracle function like (apex_item.check_box) the query slow down by 45 seconds.
query like this: (due to sensitivity issue, I can not disclose real table name)
SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,b.col3)
, a.col1
, a.col2
FROM table_one a
, table_two b
WHERE a.col3 = 12345
AND a.col4 = 100
AND b.col5 = a.col5
table_one and table_two are remote tables (non-oracle) which are connected using Oracle Gateway.
Now if I run above queries without apex_item.checkbox function the query return or response is less than a second but if I have apex_item.checkbox then the query run more than 30 seconds. I have resolved the issues by creating a collection but it’s not a good practice.
I would like to get ideas from people how to resolve or speed-up the query?
Any idea how to use sub-factoring for the above scenario? Or others method (creating view or materialized view are not an option).

Okay, I have a million questions (could you tell me if both tables are from the same remote source, it looks like they're possibly not?), but let's just try some things first.
By now you should understand the idea of what I termed 'sub-factoring' in a previous post. This is to do with using the WITH blah AS (SELECT... syntax. Now in most circumstances this 'materialises' the results of the inner select statement. This means that we 'get' the results then do something with them afterwards. It's a handy trick when dealing with remote sites as sometimes you want the remote database to do the work. The reason that I ask you to use the MATERIALIZE hint for testing is just to force this, in 99.99% of cases this can be removed later. Using the WITH statement is also handled differently to inline view like SELECT * FROM (SELECT... but the same result can be mimicked with a NO_MERGE hint.
Looking at your case I would be interested to see what the explain plan and results would be for something like the following two statements (sorry - you're going have to check them, it's late!)

AND   b.col5 = a.col5If the remote tables are at the same site, then you should have the same results. If they aren't you should get the same results but different to the original query.
We aren't being told the real cardinality of the inners select here so the explain plan is distorted (this is normal for queries on remote and especially non-oracle sites). This hinders tuning normally but I don't think this is your problem at all. How many distinct values do you normally get of the column aliased 'x' and how many rows are normally returned in total? Also how are you testing response times, in APEX, SQL Developer, Toad SQLplus etc?

Report generation problems on the WinNT target machine

I'm using report generation VI's to generate a standard report, mixed with text and graphs.
In development mode (LV 6.0.2; Win-NT 4.0 SP6)there are no problems to print it. As soon as I make an application (application builder 6.0) and transfer it to the target machine (Win-NT 4.0 SP6; run time engine 6.0.2) I get an error -2147352567 unable to load picture..to Append front panel image to report.vi> If I delete the VI "Append front panel image to report.vi", I can print the text of my report without problems. Do you have any idea?

I could fix the bug in the meantime. I had installed an older version of the Internet Explorer. When I updated the target PC to Internet Explorer Vers. 5.5, there are no problems anymore. I think it must be a problem of ActivX.

Report a problem form does not pop up

My 5 year old bought $80 of stuff with an In App purchase in error yesterday. I tried to use the REport a problem link. But all that pops up is a webpage:

When I click 'Report a problem'
How do I get it cancelled, the link does not work.

I can confirm that report a problem sends me nowhere when I click it. Funny how when it comes to reporting that it doesn't work
