Report server engine (9.0.2.0.3)

Hi all,
I would like to know whether the Report server Engine is multitasking or not. I installed Oracle application server 9.0.2.03 on a NT2000 environment, and I have two server engine running. If I have 4 or more user requests and if the first report takes long time to retrieve the data from the database, does the server engine attends to another request or does the engine waits for the first report to get over before attending the second request.
Frequently I am getting the following message, while running report with 2 sessions. (even though my report should not take more than 1 min)
Running the report Formatting page 1. Please wait.(report format is PDF)
And to come out of this situation, I need to restart the report server.
If i try to cancel the job, I get a message
'Cannot kill job with Job ID REP-59068:Bad Engine name:null'
Thanks and regards.

hello,
an engine can only process one job at any given time. out of the box the reports server is configured to run one reports engine and one URL engine.
if you want to increase the number of report engines, modify the minEngines and maxEngines parameter in the server configuration file.
a rule-of-thumb is you can have 4x the number of CPUs in your machine. of course you can have less or more than that. but you might run into disadvantages where more engines will actually use up too much resources and result in less performance.

philipp

  • Oracle Apps Report error "Oracle Reports Server CGI - The Reports Server Engine terminated abnormally."

    Hi ,
I have modified layout of one existing custom report.
I have added 3 columns in the report , Now when I execute the report sometimes it gets executed with the newly added columns and sometimes it errors out with below error.
Error: The requested URL was not found, or cannot be served at this time.
Oracle Reports Server CGI - The Reports Server Engine terminated abnormally.
Any pointers in this regards will be appreciated.
    Thanks

I found there were some srw.message statement ( used for debugging purpose) were there , when I removed those statements. This error was gone.

  • The Reports Server Engine terminated abnormally

    Hi,
I created report in Reports 6i. When I used this report on my PC through web, it is ok. When I used this report on the AIX through web, server return this message "Oracle Reports Server CGI - The Reports Server Engine terminated abnormally". Where do I find detailed description about this error.
    Thanks

    9i IAS 1.0.2.2 on AIX 5.1
    My PC:

    Hi Rene Kana
You can turn on the tracing options in the server configuration file and then look at the tracefile to anlayze the details of the error. This could also be related to printer configuration , please make sure you have a valid printer set up on AIX.

  • Custom Paper Size : Migrating from 6i to 10g report server engine

    Hi,
    pardon my bad english !!
I'm studying to migrate form/reports 6i to 10G. In report 6i we have reports with custom paper size ("A5" format that is half of "A4", 15x21cm).
In report server 6i environment (Win2000 server) we have done this configuration.
    - We configure printer; one input tray has "custom" format.
    - We create an OS user (es. CustRep);this user has a "default printer" that has input tray with "custom" format as default tray.
    - We create a new report server (es. CustRepSrv); this report server start as service with CustRep user credentials.
    - Every report (PDF format) generated and printed (destype=printer, desname="My Printer") with CustRepSrv report server get custom format as paper size and so fit with Custom tray definition on the printer.
Can I do the same in report server 10G environment ??
    Thanks

  • Report Server Engine freezes for 30 seconds and more

    Hi all,
I have problems with Report Server and reports execution.
Customer complains slowness in the execution in many reports that were fast.
    Before: 4-5 seconds
    Now : 25-30 seconds
I turned on server and engine trace and i saw that no log is written for 25 seconds in a report execution.
    My environment:
    DB: Oracle 11R2
    Report Server: 10.1.2.3.0
I changed some parameters in server.conf:
    cacheSize= "200" (from default value 20 - cache dir contains 950files for 150Mb)
    initEngine= "1"
    maxEngine= "4"
diagnosis value="yes" (to write .dig file)
    <trace traceFile="E:\REPORTS\Log\reportServer.trc" traceOpts="trace_all" traceMode="trace_replace" traceModule="all" />
    maxConnect="120" (from default value 20)
The SQL query takes 0.2 seconds.

  • Report Server does not respond after certain idle time

We have an oracle 10g application server on solaris 10.
The report server has the defaul settings for time out , callback etc..
After the report server stays idle for 2 or 3 hours and the first report that comes after that takes around 8 to 10 minutes to generate. The report server engine does not seem to be getting active immediately.
Is there any parameter I can change so that the reports do not get effected.
    Thanks

I have put the idle time out at 300 minutes and the max idle time as 350 minutes. But that does not seem to have helped. And also I have min engine as 1 , max as 10.
Even with the above settings , When the report engine is idle after 30 minutes the 1st report to generate after 30 minutes takes 9 minutes.
please let me know if there are any other parameters I need to change.
    thanks

  • Report server behaviour

    Hi,
I'm just wondering about report server engine behaviour.
Since I have multiple clients invoking rwservlet, in batch mode, I assume that for each request I have a report running.
When I request more reports in parallel it seems that reports waits each other.
    I have 1 rwEng only.
More Current jobs in parallel (I can see from ShowJobs)
I don't understand why rwEng do not process other reports syncrounsly to each request.
If not, I think it should be something to configure.

    Hi Austin
    1) Open Crystal Reports Developer 11.5.
    2) Click on "File >> Open >> Enterprise".
    3) Login using Enterprise credentials to the Crystal Enterprise 8 and open the Crystal Report which is to be migrated to the new environment.
    4) Refresh the report to verify the database logon credentials and verify all the features in the report are working.
    5) Click on File >> Save As and save the report to the Folder under BusinessObjects XI R2.
    6) Login to Central Management Console (CMC) using the enterprise account.
    7) Navigate to the folder where the report is saved.

  • Report Server Vs Reports Engine

    Hi,
Could someone explain the difference between report server and a report engine (advantages vs disadvantages)?
What does lifes remaiming means on a reports engine?
On a 100+ user system, which is better, mulitple reports servers or higher reports engine setting?
    Thanks

    Hi,
About engLife, you can get the details from the below link.:)
You will also get the information of other report server parameters
    http://docs.oracle.com/html/A9210201/pbr_tune.htm#1005700_
Difference between report server and a report engine
Report engine is a part of Report server..When ever a report server starts then the report engine gets initialized and gets available at the same time.
If Report server is down,Report Engine also goes down.
which is better mulitple  reports servers or higher reports engine setting?
    Now consider this example,
If you have set you Max and Min engine to 3,
Now assume,3 users have simultaneously sent request to execute a report.
These 3 request will be handled by 3 engines available in the report server.
Now in between this,if the 4th user tries to execute another report..since all the engines are full, this request will be in the queue and will be executed once any report engine gets free.
Multiple report server will be helpful,As the load gets balanced between different report servers.
    Regards
    Fabian

  • Minimum hardware requirement for Report server with 4 engines ??

    Hello all ,
Can someone please tell what is the minimun Hardware requirement to be able to run a Oracle 91 AS with report server having 4 engines ??
and where I can find this kind of documentation.
We have a Oracle9iAS Containers for J2EE running on a machine with under 1 ghz power and around 300 mb RAM
, but the report server seems to keep crashing ..
    Can anyone pls advice
    Thanks

    Hi,
For calculating the minimum hardware requirements, you may need to look at various factors:
    1. No of reports requests that need to be processed per second
    2. Whether all these requests are synchronous or asynchronous
    3. Response time required
    4. Type of reports - large amounts of data, large no of images, etc
    5. How much caching you are using
    6. No of queries in your report
    7. Simple / complex layout of the report
    and so on.
So just the information of 4 engines may not be sufficient for trying to calculate the hardware requirements. One useful reference point for you may be the Oracle9i Reports Scalability whitepaper:
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/index.html
It lists the number of users supported on some pre-defined hardware configurations, and the average response time for the reports server.
You might also want to take a look at the paper on "Tuning Oracle Reports":
    http://otn.oracle.com/products/reports/htdocs/search.html?cat=SAP&col=ALC&submit=Search
However, it is also possible that your Reports Server is crashing due to some other problem (not the hardware configuration).
By the way, your RAM seems to be too low for Oracle9iAS installation. See the installation guide for minimum hardware requirements.
    Navneet.

  • Trace file having ??? for report server's engine

I'm facing problem regarding the font for trace file of report engine. Trace is showing ??? like the following. Can anybody help me how to change the language for the the trace only.
    Error 50103 (C Engine): ERR REP-0501: ??? ???? ??? ????? ?????? ???????? ???????
    ORA-24323: value not allowed
We have nls_language=AMERICAN_AMERICA.AR8MSWIN1256 in system registry as our application requires it. If it is due to the nls setting then why half of msg is in english.

Slow running reports often are not the result of a flawed report, but rather a flawed configuration. For example:
    1. If you call your reports (from Forms) via the default or inProcess Reports Server, often because startup time is slow, it will appear that it took too long for the report to be delievered. Using a stand-alone Rep Server is the preferred way to do this.
    2. If your Forms application makes numerous calls to RRO (RUN_REPORT_OBJECT), this can tend to result in what might appear as a memory leak (although it is not). The result is delayed processing because of the excessive memory use. This problem has been overcome in Forms/Reports 11 by the use of JVM pooling. However in v10 enabling "6i compatibility" mode is the way to overcome the issue. See Note 266073.1
    3. If the report runs fine from the Builder and it is connecting to the same db as when you run it from App Server, the issue is unlikely a db problem. However, if you want to look anyway, enable sqlnet tracing.
    4. To enable Reports tracing and investigate other tuning options, refer to the Reports 10 documentation:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B14099_11/bi.1012/b14048/pbr_tune.htm
Almost forgot to mentioned this one....
If you are using a v11 db with App Server 10, you will probably want to consider reviewing Note 1099035.1 as it discusses an issue related to performance with such a configuration.
