Report server's status is "coming up"

I installed the 9iAS Release 2, the report server can start, but sometimes hang after server reports process. Then I applied Core Patchsets 2542920 and NC 2790613, but I'm not able to start the reports server anymore. When I enter the OEM and choose to start the report server, It tells me the whole time "Report server is coming up" but nothing happen.
Anyone can help me ? Thanks in advance.

The server log is :

Is web application server ahead in time than your Enterprise server?

  • Oracle Reports Server CGI - Report Job was cancelled upon user request.

I am running reports on the web through Forms using Run_Report_Object built in. I am using Oracle 9iAS Enterprise Edition Release 1(1.2.2.2.2), Forms 6i Patch 9 (6.0.8.18.3) and Reports 6i Patch 9 (6.0.8.18) using CGI implementation. Most reports are running fine, but I have one that produces 125 pages and we are getting the following messages in the browser:
Error: The requested URL was not found, or cannot be served at this time.
Oracle Reports Server CGI - Report Job was cancelled upon user request.
However if you look at the Reports Server Queue Status thru the browser it shows that the report did finish, but it took 16 minutes. But the user gets the above message in their browser window.
Is there a way to get the first page of the report to display, while the rest of the report finishes, so the browser window doesn't timeout and display the above error?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    hi ,
There is no limit on the report run time. The most probable reason why you are getting the 'Report cancelled upon user request' message is the users might have hit the "cancel Report" button which is displayed when it is running in 'SYNCHRONOUS MODE'. do not hit that button as it will terminate the report. to increase the speed of returning the results by the report, try improving the sql that you use in the report, or if you have DBA rights try adding in INDEXES on the columns of the tables used by the report.
    Hope this helps

  • Error Message: The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

I have a web page that contains a ReportViewer control.  I am trying to display a report, which is an .rdl file located on the SSRS server, in this ReportViewer control.  I have set the ReportPath and ReportServerUrl correctly.  I am
    getting an error message.
Am I suppose to use an .rdlc file rather than a .rdl file?  Does the web server configuration need to use a certain account?
I am getting the following error message:
The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version.
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.

    Hi bucaroov,
The error "The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found." means the ReportServerURL configured in the ReportViewer control is invalid.
Please follow these steps to solve the issue:
    Logon the Report Server machine.
Open the Reporting Services Configuration Manager.
Copy the Report Server URL from 'Web Services URL'.
Logon the application server(in this case, it is the server that host the web page), check if we can use the URL we got from step 3 to access the Report Server. If so, please replace the ReportServerURL in the ReportViewer control with this URL. If it is
not available, could you please post the error message.
Additionaly, we don't need to provide the extension for a server report. The ReportPath should be like: /<reports folder>/<report name>

  • Report Server service Error.

    Hi,
I am trying to configure Reports server non Cartridge but I am gettion
following error message in reports server log file.
*** 2000-01-25 22:16:02 -- Daemon failed to listen to port.
i gave port number as 1951.
If I try to start service in the windows nt
    following error message is coming.
"The Oracle Reports Server[Repserver] service returned service specific error 186."
    My system configuration is
Oracle8i database, OAS 4.0.7 and Reports6I and developer server. I am running all of them in one machine using sp3.
As per discussion i have changed Tnsnames.ora to test.world but still unsuccessful. Even in listener.ora i have included port 1951 but no luck
    Appr. any response.
    Rajesh.
    null

    1. listener.ora is for the Net8 listener - nothing to do with the Reports Server, so I suggest you change it back to whatever port it was listening on (usually 1521 or 1526) and then stop and re-start the Net8 listener (otherwise it will prevent the reports server from listening on that port).
    2. You need to look in sqlnet.ora and add whatever value for names.default_domain is to the alias in tnsnames.ora. So if it says 'world' in sqlnet.ora, you need 'alias.world = (ADDRESS....' in tnsnames.ora
    3. Try another port in tnsnames.ora
    4. re-install reports 6i beta - the installer will set up, configure, and start the reports server for you.

  • Please help with my crystal reports server 2008 trial setup

Firstly, if this is in the wrong section feel free to move it. I find this forum is to big to find the information i need, in fact trying to find anything i need on this website is almost impossible. So far not impressed with SAP at all! we download a trial and when we have problems nobody can support us and we have to post in the forums for answers, which i find disgracefull to be honest. So this post is my last attempt of finding the answers to my problems or we are going to forget crystal reports server for good! I was also told that if i wanted help setting this up then i would have to pay, thats not how things usually go when we download a trial of any software!
    Anyway, rant over!!
Right, we have windows server 2008 and have installed crystal reports server 2008. So far all i have managed to get working is the reports themselves which run and schedule fine. The dashboard and business views are so confusing i just dont get it at all, the manuals dont help either becuase they are rubbish basically. But my first problem is trying to get windows AD authentication working! easier said than done. I have spent 4 days trying to get it working but nothing is happening. this is what i have done so far
Set up all the options in the CMC to enable AD authentication, mapped a few groups one of which i am a member of.
Then i setup the krb5.ini file like below (removed my server name and domain name)
    [libdefaults]
        default_realm = DOMAIN.CO.UK
        dns_lookup_kdc = true
        dns_lookup_realm = true
        udp_preference_limit = 1
    [realms]
    DOMAIN.CO.UK = {
        kdc = DC.CO.UK
        default_domain = DOMAIN.CO.UK
i also have that other file bscLogin which looks like this...
    com.businessobjects.security.jgss.initiate {
    com.sun.security.auth.module.Krb5LoginModule required;
The server inteligence agent has been set to use the same username as i specified in the CMC which is also the service principal name and the administartion name
i have set the web config file to use SecWINAD as default, i have also set it to give the option of enterprise, win ad etc in a drop down list
i have gone round in circles for days following the instructions, and nothing is happening
Also i dont see any usernames within the groups i have mapped , am i supposed to see any? am i supposed to add them manually?? if so, whats the point in that?
So now everytime i try to log in i get this error message
Account Information Not Recognized: Active Directory Authentication failed to log you on. Please contact your system administrator to make sure you are a member of a valid mapped group and try again. If you are not a member of the default domain, enter your user name as UserName@DNS_DomainName, and then try again. (FWM 00006)
There is also another error message i get, which isnt coming up right now but it says somthing along the lines of could not authenticate at this time (FWM 00005)
i fail to see what im doing wrong. I shoudl also point out that the username i am using for everything is our own network admin password!
any ideas on things to check before we give up with this all together?

    Hi Roberto,
With the changes when SAP took over BusinessObjects the support packaging also changed. It's the way it is now but we are moving to and giving as much options as we can. SAP works on the Self Serve practice. the info is available but you have to find it, which is another thing we are working on to improve for BOE/CRS.
Best place to start is in the CMS link off the start menu, You'll find the Admin Guide and Setup/Configuration Guides. You can also find all of the latest info and updates to those guides from help.sap.com then click on the SAP BusinessObjects tab along the top and then on the left click on All Products and then filter on your version.
Once the Firewalls and Domains and your CRS Server is added to the Trusted Domains and ports opened to allow CRS to talk to the DNS Server CRS will begin to load all of the users into it's User Mappings. You still have to add each user or Group of Users but they will be available. Documents does describe how to....
Once you have the Admin Guide search on Security and it explains in details how to set up and which ports need to be opened etc.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Report server name issue

    Dear All,
I am stucking with the following problem,
I have deployed my ERP apllication (developed in oracle forms & reports 10g) on oracle apllication server 10g forms & report services. my apllication server has two LAN card. out of two one has been configured with statis IP for web access. but while running report from parameter form i am taking report url from table. table contain report server name as my local server name.
    My problem is,
If i am accessing erp from web using static ip and running report then server name is not recognized
because it is my local server name coming from table. so for that every time i need to change report url & replace server name with statis ip in browser addr for web users.
Please guide me what should i do to resolve this issue.
Your reply would be greatly apprecited.
    Thanks

If "Credentials supplied by the user running the report" is selected, when the report is run, the user will be prompted to provide credentials.  They would need to provide credentials that have the appropriate permissions (e.g., read, execute) to the
database.  This prevents the double hop.
If "Credentials stored securely in the report server" is selected, you have to enter the username and password of a user (or service account) that has the appropriate permissions (e.g., read, execute) to the database. When the report is run, SSRS will use
these stored credentials each time to authenticate to the database engine and query the data.  Users running the report are not prompted to provide credentials.  With this option you can use an Active Directory or SQL Server account.
In order to access/run the report, a user will need to authenticate to SSRS.  There are options here as well. You can provide them the link to the report manager and they can authenticate, navigate to, and run the report.  You can also provide
direct links to reports that users click in a document or application.  At this point the user is typically still prompted to authenticate to SSRS.  You can also programmatically call the report using API's and essentially build a proxy that authenticates
to SSRS and open the report.
Not sure if that answers your question.

    ========
The main purpose of this document is to list the known causes of the "Unable to
communicate with the Reports Server" error. The terms Reports Server, CGI,
Reports Servlet are also described briefly for a better explanation of this error scenario.
This document includes the following sections :
    I. Brief summary on the architecture of Reports Server, CGI and Reports
    Servlet
II. Sources of errors encountered when running a report with Reports Server
III. How the CGI (or the Reports Servlet) communicates with the Reports
    Server
IV. Possible reasons which lead to "Unable to communicate with the Reports
    Server" error.
    1) Reports Server is up and running
    2) tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora problems
    3) Effect of parameter "ORACLE_HOME"
    4) Effect of parameter "maxconnect"
    5) Passing very large parameters to reports server
    6) A case specific to OAS 4.0.8.2
    7) A case specific to WEBDB version 2.1.0.9.3

    I. Brief summary on the architecture of Reports Server, CGI and Reports Servlet
    =================================================================================
In order to understand the causes of the error "Unable to communicate with the
Reports Server", let's first briefly review the Reports Runtime Engines, Reports
Server, the Reports CGI, and Reports Servlet architecture.
There are 4 important layers in Reports Server architecture which should be
understood in order to clearly understand the error "Unable to communicate with
    the Reports Server" :
    1) The Runtime Engines : This is the main layer where the reports are actually
executed. On unix systems there are "rwrun60" and on NT systems there are
    "rwrun60.exe" processes.
    2) The Reports Server : The Reports Server recieves the job request and queues
it. When one of its runtime engines becomes available, it sends the
command line to that runtime engine for execution. On Unix systems it is
the "rwmts60" executable and on NT systems it is "rwmts60.exe".
    3) The Reports CGI : The Reports Web CGI passes the request to the Reports Server.
The Reports CGI or Servlet converts the request to a command line that can be executed by the Reports Server and
submits it to the specified Reports Server. On Unix platforms this executable
is "rwcgi60" and on NTs it is "rwcgi60.exe.
    4) The Reports Servlet : Its functionality and function is just the same as "Reports CGI", but it is
a program written in Java as difference to the CGI program (which is
    written in C programming language).
The Reports Server may be running on the same server with the CGI program (or
servlet) OR may reside totally on another machine which does not necessarily have
the same Operating System. For instance CGI may reside in a Windows NT machine
while the Reports server may reside on a Unix box, or any other combination with
    Unix-Linux-NT-2000, etc.
The reports are called with a URL similar to below with the CGI :
    http://fully.qualified.server.name:PORT/dev60cgi/rwcgi60.exe?server=<REPSERVER>&other_parameters=...........
where fully.qualified.server.name is the name of the server where the Reports CGI
reside, and <REPSERVER> is the name of the server.
II. Sources of errors encountered when running a report with Reports Server
    ============================================================================
The Reports Web CGI (or the Reports Servlet) makes a call to the Reports Server
and asks it to place the output into some destination (defined by DESTYPE and
DESNAME parameters), then gives back the necessary response to the calling
program. For example if the DESTYPE is "cache", then the Reports server generates
the report to a file in a temporary place and gives it back to CGI and the CGI gives
it back to the calling program. Otherwise, if the DESTYPE is "file", the Reports Server
generates the report output to the requested file and the CGI replies back the
following message : "Report output was successfully written to requested
    destination.".
If there is any error in this process, the related error message is returned. The
possible sources of errors can be categorized as follows :
    1) The errors that are returned from Reports Server; like the Reports Server can
not find the requested RDF file or the report may be run to file and the
directory where the reports output is asked to be placed does not occur or
similar errors. (Usually the REP-XXXX errors)
    2) Another possible cause of error is the errors returned by the RDBMS to the
Reports Server, for example a table not found error or things like that. Of
course from the CGI point of view these errors are again transmitted from the
Reports Server but in fact the error originates from the RDBMS. (Usually the
    ORA-XXXX errors)
    3) Another possible cause of errors is the CGI itself, for example when the CGI
executable can not connect to the requested Reports Server, then we get the
famous "Unable to communicate with the Reports Server". In this document we will
diagnose the common reasons of this last error.
III. How the CGI (or the Reports Servlet) communicates with the Reports Server
    ===============================================================================
Having said that "Oracle Reports Server CGI - Unable to communicate with the
Reports Server." error is returned back from the CGI itself, let's discuss the
issue of how the Reports CGI connect to the Reports Server. The name of the
Reports Server given in the URL with "server=....." parameter is, in fact, just
a special tnsnames alias, similar to aliases for database connect strings. As it is
important for the CGI to resolve the alias, the CGI needs to know the HOST name (or the
IP) of the machine where the Reports Server is running and the port on which the
Reports Server is listening. So a typical Reports Server alias is defined as follows :
    REP60_<MACHINE>=(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = <MACHINE>)(PORT = <PORT>))
This is defined in tnsnames.ora file, and the sqlnet.ora file is also used in
    the name resolving operation.
IV. Possible reasons which lead to "Unable to communicate with the Reports Server" error.
    ==========================================================================================
The possible reasons for the "Unable to communicate with the Reports Server" error :
    1) Reports Server is up and running :
Make sure that the Reports Server is really running on the specified server
and listening on the specified port. For details have a look at above
explanations for tnsnames alias of the reports server. And because of this the
CGI could not establish a connection to the Reports Server.
    2) tnsnames.ora and sqlnet.ora problems :
As described above, the CGI resolves the details for the reports server using
the "tnsnames.ora" and "sqlnet.ora" files. There may be a problem with them,
here are the possible configuration problems :
    a) There is no alias in the tnsnames.ora file for this Reports Server
    b) The CGI looks into the wrong directory for the "tnsnames.ora" and "sqlnet.ora"
files. By default the CGI checks the $ORACLE_HOME/net80/admin directory for
these scripts, where the $ORACLE_HOME is the home of the Forms & Reports
installation. Please note that in a typical 9iAS 1.0.X installation there
are two ORACLE_HOME's, one is for the iAS and the other is for the tools,
usually the home for the tools is a directory with name "806" on NT and
"6iserver" on unix systems. By defining TNS_ADMIN in the environment, one
can override the search path for these two files.
The TNS_ADMIN variable can be defined in one of the following places :
    i) In the environment : On MS Windows platforms check the "Settings
--> Control Panel --> System". On NTs check the environment TAB and in
Win2K systems check the "Environment Variables" button on Advanced tab.
ii) In "6iserver.conf" file. Details are as follows : The main configuration
file for Apache server is "httpd.conf" file which resides in
$IAS_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf directory. In this file there is a line to
include "oracle_apache.conf" and in this "oracle_apache.conf" file
there is a line to include "$ORACLE_HOME/conf/6iserver.conf" file. And
in this file the TNS_ADMIN variable could be defined as follows :
    SetEnvIf Request_URI "rwcgi60" TNS_ADMIN=c:\orant\network\ADMIN
Please note that by defining it this way, the TNS_ADMIN will only be defined
for "rwcgi60" calls, so the other parts of the 9iAS will not be affected by
    this setting.
    c) In sqlnet.ora the "names.default_domain" is set but in tnsnames.ora the
domain is not defined in the alias description. For example if the
"names.default_domain=world" is present and active in "sqlnet.ora" file
then in the "tnsnames.ora" the alias of the reports server should also have
the ".world" extension appended at the end. And another cause is of course
the vice versa for this. If there is no "names.default_domain" is defined
in the "sqlnet.ora" then the alias in "tnsnames.ora" should not have the
    domain extension.
Another important point that should be checked is, if TNS_ADMIN is defined
as described above then the search path is as follows, first the directory
defined by TNS_ADMIN is searched, if the "tnsnames.ora" file is not found in
this directory then $ORACLE_HOME/net80/admin is checked. (And on unix systems
/var/opt/oracle is also checked). These directories are only checked if the file
is not present, so if the "tnsnames.ora" file is present in TNS_ADMIN directory
but the alias is not present, then the other directories are not checked at all.
Let us assume that the tnsnames.ora file is present in the TNS_ADMIN directory but
there is no "sqlnet.ora" files here, then the sqlnet.ora file is checked in
$ORACLE_HOME/net80/admin directory, which could cause the same problem if the
"names.default_domain" is defined in this file.
All the above will result in, CGI to unable to resolve the alias in tnsnames.ora
file so it will not be able to establish a connection to the Reports Server.
    3) Wrong "ORACLE_HOME" setting :
Wrong ORACLE_HOME setting. This is usually the case for Reports Servlet,
because the environment settings are defined in "jserv.properties" file for the
servlets and the setting here will effect both the Reports Servlet and the
setting for Oracle JSP and other servlets. So the other servlets or Oracle JSP
may need to set ORACLE_HOME to home of HTTP server while the reports server needs
it to be set to the TOOLS_HOME directory. In this case the best alternative is
not to set ORACLE_HOME in this directory and leave it to registry or defined the
ORACLE_HOME in "6iserver.conf" file just like the TNS_ADMIN defined above. For
details please have a look at the following document :
Note 179609.1 "Getting an error Unable to communicate with the Reports Server
    using RWSERVLET"
    4) Effect of parameter "maxconnect" :
Another common case for this error is that the CGI request reaches the Reports Server but
the Reports Server refuses connection. The main cause for this case is, that the Reports Server
configuration parameter "maxconnect" is defined too low, there are long running reports on the
server or the server is too busy at that time. Usually a second try some
later time results in a successful connection. If this is the case, the end user
may think that the problem is occasional. For details on this case please
have a look at the following document :
Note 125265.1 "Unable to communicate with the Reports Server"
    5) Passing very large parameters to reports server :
Another known reason for this error is, if you are passing large parameters
to the Reports Server which exceeds sqlnet transmission blocks then the request may
end up with this error. To test it try with small parameter values. If you hit
this case, the solution is to increase the SDU (Session data unit size) and the TDU
(Transport unit data size) parameters in tnsnames.ora file, for details please
have a look at the following document :
Note 197358.1 "Passing large parameters to Reports show up a Reports Server
    error"
    6) A case specific to OAS 4.0.8.2 :
If you are using OAS instead of iAS, and the error appeared after
upgrading to 4.0.8.2 then this is caused because the 4.0.8.2 is using RSF
(Required Support Files) version 8.1.6 and the Reports 6i is using 8.0.6 and the
two could not reside in the same ORACLE_HOME directory. So the solution for this
problem is to create a new batch file and use it from which the actual CGI
executable is called. For details please see the following document :
Note 116754.1 "After applying OAS 4.0.8.2 CGI and Cartridge cannot communicate
    to report server"
    7) A case specific to WEBDB version 2.1.0.9.3 :
Another known case for this error is with WEBDB version 2.1.0.9.3 or less.
If you are using these old versions of WEBDB as HTTP listener, please have a
look at the following document :
Note 95426.1 "URL Not Found When Calling Oracle Developer Report from WebDB Site"

On Windows you can create a Report Services:
rwserver -install server=repserverYou have to choose different names for all servers, like your collegue cannot create a server with the same name. You can start/stop this Report server in Services (control panel). Configuration files can be found under $ORACLE_HOME/reports/conf

  • Crystal Report Server XI recurring report instance is not viewable

I have scheduled a report to be run every morning, and each instance return status is "success". However, I encountered the following problem when I try to view instances of the report: There is a long time period of waiting (seems to be waiting for some kind of timeout), and then eventually the message: "A request was cancelled. The necessary security privileges could not be verified. This indicates a problem with the security server."
I also noticed that in event viewer (windows server 2003) I see many failure audits to login to the sql database, and the events contain the login used in my data source.
It's interesting to note, that when I run a single instance of the report "Now" there is no problem.
Some info about the report which may be relevant:
The report uses 2 formula fields to auto-parameterize 2 of the 5 parameters used by a subreport. The other 3 subreport parameters are set when scheduling the report.
The subreport uses a call into a stored procedure in a MS SQL server 2005 database to retrieve its records.
The 2 fields which are parameterized are datetime fields (StartTime, EndTime), and the main report is basically just a wrapper to only show the previous day.
JDBC data source to local Sql server instance.
Also, the crystal report server XI install uses the same sql server instance to store CMS data under a separate database.
    I'm stumped on this.
    Has anybody encountered this problem?
Is there a simpler way to auto-parameterize the report?
Why are the failure audits occurring when I view the instance of the report? Is this because the instance is setup to use RPT output format?
Are there logs I can look into aside from event viewer? I can't find anything that looks relevant under program files, but perhaps I missed something.
The failure audits would make more sense to me if it occurred with the other report instances, but some instances are shown correctly, and some just do this timeout thing.

    Hello AV,
please look for the log files here:
    drive:install folder\businessobjectsenterprise11\logging
    by default c:\program files\business objects\business objects enterprise 11\logging
Please make sure that tracing is switched on for the individual server.

Why does the trace file indicate that the rwEng engine died with error?+
Again why does the rwURLEng engine start up and then immediately shut down?+
Thank you for your help on this issue.+

OK, I did this once and did not follow the oracle docs
If you saved your targets.xml before you started you might save it by renaming it back.
(Double check to make sure you did not miss a rename)
Otherwise, all I have to offer is my rough notes:
    1. Backup the file $ORACLE_HOME/sysman/emd/targets.xml.
    [oracle@ias02 emd]$ pwd
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/sysman/emd
    cp targets.xml targets.xmlbackup
    2. Modify the file targets.xml by changing all the occurrences of the wrong reports server name by the correct one.
    i.e. Replace rep_test_midtier with rep_new (4 places - changes)
Copy the conf file as follows: ( this will named different from system to system )
    cp /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_pia_oracleas.conf /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/conf/rep_fam.conf
    run this script:
/u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/addNewServerTarget.sh rep_fam          (change rep_fam to new report server name)
    3.Update the changed configuration .
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl updateconfig -ct opmn -v -d
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/dcm/bin/dcmctl resyncinstance -v -d
    4. Restart the Application Server Control Console
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/emctl stop iasconsole
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/bin/emctl start iasconsole
    In the file:
    /u01/app/oracle/product/midtier/reports/config/reportsConfig.properties
Change the Reports_Server_Name setting from rep_test_midtier to rep_fam (change rep_fam to new report server name)
Best Wishes (I was able to save mime)
The other option is to reinstall
