Report Using A Stored Procedure Is Caching Data
Post Author: springerc69
CA Forum: Data Connectivity and SQL
I converted a report from a view that worked fine to a stored procedure to try and improve the performance of the report, but when I publish the report it seems to cache the data. When you change the parameters you use to call the report or simply run the report again with the original parameters the report doesn't run the sproc and just shows the cached data from the original request. If I right click on the report and select refresh (web based crystal report), it prompts for the parameters. I just close out the prompt window, report window and click on the link for the report again it returns the correct results based on the new parameters or a refresh based on the original parameters. I've checked the cache time setting and set it to 0, and if you close the Internet Explorer window that originally called the report, open IE back up and request the report it will return the appropriate data. I have also verify that the report is not setup to save data with report. This is on Crystal XI Server.

Which viewer are you using?
It might be that your IE settings are caching the report pages. because you're using an HTML viewer.
Try the Active-X viewer.
I've forgotten which icon it is that changes the viewer...it's under the preferences options, I think it's the one that looks like a hunk of cheese on the right upper side.

How to use a stored procedure as a datasource in Crystal Report for Eclipse
Hi All,
I've written a stored procedure in oracle 10g with few input parameters and one refcursor output parameter. I want to use this stored procedure as a data source for creating a report in "Crystal Report For Eclipse 3.6.0".
When I tried to add this stored procedure to the report using the connection explorer, I don't see any option to do this. But when I try to add any table, it shows options like "Add to the current report"....
Can anybody assist me how to use a stored procedure as a data source in "Crystal Report For Eclipse"?
Which driver should I use to connect to the oracle database? I tried using JDBC Driver for Oracle.
Thanks in advance.Did you solve your problem? How did you do?

Using a stored procedure for a sender jdbc adapter
Hi all,
The requirement is to use a stored procedure, for extracting data from a oracle database.
Is it possible to do this.
If yes, what should be the source structure in this case.
Please help with the exact soln.
Thanks!!
YounusHi,
Did you check the blog pointed by Aamir?
/people/jegathees.waran/blog/2007/03/02/oracle-table-functions-and-jdbc-sender-adapter
You will need to use Oracle Functions instead of Oracle Stored Procedures. Read thru the blog and the note pointed in the blog . Think it is quite a good example.

Stored Procedure for displaying data in Crystal Reports
Hi I am new to Oracle & Crystal Reports,so can any one please give me sample stored procedure to display data in Crystal report from Oracle by passing rwo input values.
from site:-
Crystal Reports will only support the return of a single refcursor from Oracle. Even the latest and greatest version 10 doesn't allow you to return more than one recordset at a time. You could add one more step to your procedure that would join up the output of the multiple refcursors into a PL/SQL table and then fetch the result set out through a single refcursor. That way you are using temporary space that will be cleaned up as soon as the connection is terminated and will only be returning a single refcursor -
Crystal reports, Push method using a stored Procedure
Could someone 'PLEASE' help! I am trying to create and populate a Crystal Report via a stored procedure in a vb.net asp.net web site.. I have created a dataset1.xsd and I have dragged my Stored_Proc onto the dataset. I then use the 'DataBase Expert' and select ADO.net Datasets and select my storedProcedure from dataset1 as my selected dataset. After that I just drag the fields onto my report. Then via ado.net shown below I populate the dataset. I can loop through the dataset and it does get populated correctly from the stored_proc. yet when the report pops up in a web browser the fields are empty. I have found that this method works fine if I drag an actual table from my database onto my dataset, but I need to populate the dataset via joins and a parameter.
Could someone please tell me what I'm missing!

Duckkiller53Hello Scott,
It'll be difficult to migrate CR 10 reports to SQL Server 2005, since it's not a supported combination:
[http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/communitycs/TechnicalPapers/cr10_supported_platforms.pdf|http://resources.businessobjects.com/support/communitycs/TechnicalPapers/cr10_supported_platforms.pdf]
Also, CR 10 will be going out of support at the end of the year, so the supported platform list will not be expanded.
It's not a recommended combination for production use.

Writing data to a foreign database-SQLServer using a stored procedure
Does anyone know if I can Insert data into a SQLServer table which resides out on the WAN using a stored procedure which resides in my Oracle database?
Is it possible? Sure. How easy it is really depends...
Oracle has a feature called Heterogeneous Connectivity which allows you to create database links to non-Oracle databases. You can then treat the remote SQL Server objects just like you would use remote Oracle tables across a database link, i.e.
INSERT INTO table_name@sql_server_dblink( <<list of columns>> )
VALUES( <<list of values>> )Heterogeneous Connectivity requires some configuration on the Oracle database side. If you want to use Generic Connectivity, which is part of the base license, you'll need a SQL Server ODBC driver on the machine where Oracle is running. If you run Oracle on Windows, this is relatively easy. If you run Oracle on Unix, this gets a bit more challenging.

I am using a Data Flow and an OLE DB Source to read my staged 3rd party external data. I need to do various Lookups to try and determine if I can find the external person in our database...by SSN...By Name and DOB...etc...
Now I need to do some more data verification based on the Lookup that is successful. Can I do those data edits against our SQL server application database by utilizing an OLE DB Command? Using a Stored Procedure or can I sue straight SQL to perform my edit
against every staging row by using a parameter driven query? I'm thinking a Stored Procedure is the way to go here since I have multiple edits against the database. Can I pass back the result of those edits via a variable and then continue my SSIS Data Flow
by analyzing the result of my Stored Procedure? And how would I do that.
I am new to the SSIS game here so please be kind and as explicit as possible. If you know of any good web sites that walk through how to perform SQL server database edits against external data in SSIS or even a YouTube, please let me know.
Thanks!Thanks for that...but can I do multiple edits in my Stored Procedure Vaibhav and pass back something that I can then utilize in my SSIS? For example...
One and Only one Member Span...so I'd be doing a SELECT COUNT(*) based on my match criteria or handle the count accordingly in my Stored Procedure and passing something back via the OLE DB Command and handling it appropriately in SSIS
Are there "Diabetes" claims...again probably by analyzing a SELECT COUNT(*)
Am I expecting too much from the SSIS...should I be doing all of this in a Stored Procedure? I was hoping to use the SSIS GUI for everything but maybe that's just not possible. Rather use the Stored Procedure to analyze my stged data, edit accordingly, do
data stores accordingly...especially the data anomalies...and then use the SSIS to control navigation
Your thoughts........
Could you maybe clarify the difference between an OLE DB Command on the Data Flow and the Execute SQL Task on the Control Flow...
You can get return values from oledb comand if you want to pipeline.
see this link for more details
http://josef-richberg.squarespace.com/journal/2011/6/30/ssis-oledb-command-and-procedure-output-params.html
The procedure should have an output parameter defined for that
I belive if you've flexibility of using stored procedure you may be better off doing this in execute sql task in control flow. Calling sp in data flow will cause it to execute sp once for each row in dataset whereas in controlflow it will go for set based
processing

The tables that i am passing are registered in metadata and I am able to create indexes directly in sql plus. But when i try to create using this stored procedure, it fails.
it should be possible to create indexes using a generic function. Has any faced a similar problem?

Report based on stored procedure
I want to create a report based on stored procedure(not ref cursor!!!!!)
For example - Invoice report with data with complicated rules:
1.line - product_name and price
2.line - annual fee name and price
3.line - some special fee name and price
4..............
5..............
[b][b][b]Is it possible or not?
We can solve the problem using functions, i.e. select line_1_1(param),line_1_data2(param6) from dual union all and select line_2_1(param1,param2),line_2_2(sysdate) from dual and so on, but I am looking for better solution.
We also can use stored procedure to populate data into temporary table, run report and clear the data in the table after that, but database is read-only for users and we don't want to change the security roles.
Thanks in advance.

How to use Parameterized Stored Procedure in OBIEE 10 g..?
Hi All,
In my rpd, to load the data in the Physical layer, I'm using a Stored Procedure (*SQL Server Stored Procedure*).
This stored procedure is using some parameters, so my intention is
1) Provide prompts for each parameter
2) Allow the user to select parameter value from the prompt
Can some one let me know if this is possible and if so how to do this.
Thanks in Advance

Calling a report from a Stored Procedure
Is it possible to call a Oracle Report from a Stored Procedure or a Packaged Stored Procedure. If Yes, please provide some details.
Thanks
ShaluShalu,
there's an API available to do this.The feature is called "event driven publishing" (because you can use this even from a trigger) and you can find the documentation here:

SSRS - Oracle Stored procedure returns no data but does in SQL Developer Sudio
HI there,
Stored procedure returns no data when executed on the report but when i execute the stored procedure in Sql Developer it returns required rows.
Thanks for your help!Hi Simon,
When i test with simple query, i get the data.
For your convenience, my stored proc looks lyk :
PROCEDURE pr_REPORT_data(P_STARTDATE IN DATE, P_ENDDATE IN DATE, data_rows OUT T_CURSOR) AS
OPEN completed_Reinstatement FOR
SELECT
value1,.......value5
FROM table1
WHERE
To_Date(createdDate, 'YYYY/MM/DD') BETWEEN To_Date(P_STARTDATE, 'YYY/MM/DD') AND To_Date(P_ENDDATE, 'YYYY/MM/DD');
END pr_REPORT_data;
T_CURSOR is of type cursor which is declared on the package.
I'm assuming the problem is with date parameters, however i converted the date before passing to
WHERE clause. -
Need help with BC4J/Struts application using a Stored Procedure
Hi,
I am doing a proof of concept for a new project using JDeveloper, Struts and BC4J. We want to reuse our Business logic that is currently residing in Oracle Stored Procedures. I previously created a BC4J Entity Object based on a stored procedure Using Oracle Stored Procedures but this stored procedure is a bit different in that it returns a ref cursor as one of the paramters. http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2003/03/03/gettingAViewObjectsResultRowsFromARefCursor.html
I tried the above method, but I am having some trouble with it. I keep getting the error ORA-01008: not all variables are bound when I test it using the AppModule tester.
Here is the store procedure definition:

,max_rows_allowed IN OUT NUMBER
,total_rows_selected IN OUT NUMBER
,message_cd_out IN OUT VARCHAR2
,query_results OUT sn_srch_results
END pprs_test_wrappers;

Also, could I have done this from the Entity object instead of the view object by registering the ref cursor OUT parameter in handleStoredProcInsert()?
Thanks
NatalieI was able to get the input parameter by putting the following in my struts actions class
vo.setWhereClauseParam(0,request.getParameter("row0_SerialNum"));
The full code is:
package mypackage2;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletRequest;
import javax.servlet.http.HttpServletResponse;
import oracle.jbo.html.BC4JContext;
import oracle.jbo.ViewObject;
import oracle.jbo.html.struts11.BC4JUtils;
import org.apache.struts.action.Action;
import org.apache.struts.action.ActionForm;
import org.apache.struts.action.ActionForward;
import org.apache.struts.action.ActionMapping;
public class LienCheckView1QueryAction extends Action
public ActionForward execute(ActionMapping mapping, ActionForm form, HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
BC4JContext context = BC4JContext.getContext(request);
// Retrieve the view object instance to work with by name
ViewObject vo = context.getApplicationModule().findViewObject("LienCheckView1");
vo.setRangeSize(3);
vo.setIterMode(ViewObject.ITER_MODE_LAST_PAGE_PARTIAL);
// Do any additional VO setup here (e.g. setting bind parameter values)
vo.setWhereClauseParam(0,request.getParameter("row0_SerialNum"));
// default value for serialCollCd 1 is for Motor Vehicles
vo.setWhereClauseParam(1,new oracle.jbo.domain.Number(1));
// Default value for maxRows_allowed
vo.setWhereClauseParam(2,new oracle.jbo.domain.Number(20));
return BC4JUtils.getForwardFromContext(context, mapping);
This doesn't always work properly though. The first time I press the query button, the SerialNum parameter is still null, however if I re-execute the query by pressing the query button again. It will work, and return the rows. I always have to query twice. Also the SerialNum attribute is set to a String in my view object, it is a varchar column in the database, but some serial number I enter give a "Error Message: oracle.jbo.domain.Number ". This happens even though the underlying BC4J is returning values for the query. I also get a "500 Internal Server Error java.lang.ClassCastException: java.lang.String on my View object's code at line 65 which is
if (params.length>1) serialCollCdIn = (BigDecimal)params[1];
This is an input paramter to the oracle stored procedure that defaults to a Number value of 1.
Any idea what the problem is? Here is the full code for my view object:

How can I Use a Stored Procedure from Microsoft SQL Server?
Hi All,
Would like to use stored procedure as my data service in Visual Composer.
Our version is VC7.0 SP20.
Is stored procedure feasible? What is the system that i need to create in Enterprise Portal? Currently i have BI JDBC System which only allows me to search for tables from SQL Server.
Much appreciate your help.
Thanks & Regards,
SarahHi Skif,
Referring to my post: JDBC System Connection VS BI JDBC System Connection
I do not even able to view list of stored procedure. I need help too..maybe you can show me how do you set the connection? What are the mandatory connection properties? I have filled up:
- Connection URL
- Driver class name
- User Administration: User, Admin (I did user mapping too)
The error message that i got is:
com.sap.guimachine.portalconnector.commandhandler.CommandException: Failed to connect to backend system. Check your system definition and user privileges.#
I had assigned full control to the DB user, and map my portal user to that DB user.
Many Thanks,
Sarah
