Reporting Service option disabled on Connect-Object Explorer Management Studio Express

Hi,
I have Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 11.0.2100.60 with Data Tools for Visual Studio 2012 installed on Windows 8 ver 6.3
I try to connect to a Reporting Services on my network, but when I click Connect on Object Explorer left panel, I can see Database, and Azure enabled, but Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Service disabled.
Why it is happening this?
Thank you,
Joseph - Madrid

Hi Joseph – Madrid,
Based on my understanding, you want to connect to the reporting services in SSMSE. However, when you click Connect button on Object Explorer pane, Reporting Services, Integration Services and Analysis Service are disabled.
SSMSE cannot manage Analysis Services, Integration Services, or Reporting Services. Since you install SSMSE in your environment, the result is expected. Please refer to Features in SSMSE section of this article:
SQL Server Management Studio Express.
In your scenario, since you want to manage reporting services in SSMS, I would recommend you download and install Express with Advanced Services from this link:
Express with Advanced Services. When downloading, please choose ENU\x64\SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe. Or you can install other edition of SQL Server 2012 except Express edition.

    HI
We have a Sql server instance where we are not able to install reporting services, so what we have done is we have created one more sql server instance on the same server with reporting services.
When we configured reporting services in sharepoint integrated mode and try to connect that web service url in sharepoint we are getting an error in sharepoint central administartion  that not able to connect to the reporting services.
Request you to throw some light on the same.
    Thanks

    Hi Geeth,
Based on the limited information, I am not very clearly about you issue. In order to solve the problem more efficiently, I need to clarify some information. Could you post more detail information about “try to connect that web service url in sharepoint we
are getting an error in sharepoint central administartion”? For example, the detail steps about the action, the screenshot of the action, and what error message you received. I’m not sure which step are you trying to do. And could you tell me the edition of
your SQL Server and SharePoint? It is benefit for us to do further analysis.

  • Reports service connection restore

    Hi.
Anybody had experienced the problem with reports service not being able to restore the connection to the database after database restart.
The scenario is like this :
    1. both database and OAS reports are up and running
    2. the database is restarted
    3. after database restart the reports service i unable to connect to the database until the OAS is restarted too.
I am wondering is this normal behavior and if so is there any workaround to this issue so the OAS would not need to be restarted too.
    Best regards.

    Hi.
Thank you for your reply but as I told in my previous post the problem disappears as soon as I restart report server or the whole OAS.
The error in log file is REP-0501: Unable to connect to the specified database.
I have a filling there is a problem with report server not being able to restore the database connection after the connection is lost (for example database restart).
    Best regards.

  • Error in running report services

    i installed 9iAS release 2.
while installing i selected only forms and report services options.
now while starting all the services reports services showing down.....
when seperately i am starting that services some ikon coming..but it is being there for small time only
so anybody help me in this.

    CAUSE
The problem is caused by not using VALID dates values in the dataset.
    - This data problem was masked in the original version as the Predicate(s) used can change between versions of Oracle
    - Oracle does *not* guarantee the same explain plan or the specific order of predicates used between versions of Oracle
Reviewing the  EXPLAIN PLAN for both versions revealed in this case:
    1) The table was partitioned
    2) The EXPLAIN PLANS were not the same due to how the partitions were accessed
    3) If the same query was used against a non-partitioned table using the same data, the following error would always occur
       ORA-01843: not a valid month
    4) The problem string value was in this case found to include the string value of  '0000-00-00'
The ORA-01843 occurred when using the TO_DATE function against '0000-00-00'
    There is *no* Year= '0000' Month= '00' or day = '00' -- therefore the  ORA-01843: not a valid month

  • Add SQL reporting services to get Azure sql db data

    Dear all,
I have read recently that SQL server reporting services as been remmoved from Azure services. I have a SQL server database on azure which collect different type of data which are collected from a web admin portal by my users.
I have a strong need to bring to that admin web portal a flexible reporting solution for my users to monitor collected data.
Of course I can bring dash board to web application but often it is painful to change web app when a user want different type of report.
What could be the way now to use online reporting service in orde to bring online report for my user of my sql azure database ?
    regards
    serge

    Hi serge,
Based on my understanding, you want to use SQL Azure database to design the report, right?
    As you mentioned,
Azure SQL Reporting is officially discontinued, so that we can’t design reports with Azure SQL Reporting. However, only the Azure cloud implementation of SQL Reporting is discontinued. All other forms of Reporting Services technology are unaffected. In
Reporting services, it’s supported connect to SQL Azure database. So in your scenario, you can connect to the SQL Azure database to design the report. For more information, please refer to this article:
How to connect to SQL Azure using SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2.

  • SQL Server 2012 - reporting services - scale-out-deployment

I am facing an issue which is related to a scale out deployment. I am deploying a FIM reporting based on System Center and I have 2 sql servers in this scenario.
Now the problem is that Reporting services configuration manager (from sql1) says that the scale out deployment has been established. Sql1 is joined and sql2 is waiting to join. I don't know why the servers has been appeared under the scale out deployment
because I don't want to create the scale out deployment.
So how can I remove the scale out deployment without breaking anything?
Also if I look at the Reporting services configuration manager from sql2 the scale out deployment panel is empty like it should be.

    Hi 2xTsei,
According to your description, two report server instances have been configured to a scale-out deployment, while you haven’t performed this configuration.
In Reporting Services, a report server scale-out deployment is two or more report server instances that share a single report server database. To finish this configuration, we should use Reporting Services Configuration tool to connect to each report server
to the shared database and join a new report server instance. So the scale-out deployment shouldn’t be configured automatically. It’s likely that someone has configured this deployment who can access those two instances.

That is a little bit weird because I am 100% sure that we didn't manually configured scale out deployment. I need to inspect this more.

  • Reporting Services Configuration with CRM 2011

    Hello,
I have successfully configured SharePoint 2010 and CRM 2011 in a DEV environment to use CRM 2011 reports in a SharePoint 2010 library.  However, in production, this is not working due to the following:
When I try to run a CRM 2011 report in the SharePoint 2010 library, I see this error:
An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted)
Cannot create a connection to data source 'EMCFCRM2011'. (rsErrorOpeningConnection)
For more information about this error navigate to the report server on the local server machine, or enable remote errors
Also, the data source Test Connection returns this error:
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON
The SharePoint Integrated Report Server is on the SharePoint VM, and has account credentials (in the SharePoint configuration) that has access to the CRM 2011 databases (organization and MSCRM and ReportServer databases)
    Thanks in advance,

    Hi,
It looks like Reporting Services is trying to connect to SQL Server using Windows Authentication. When you try this from anywhere other then the RS server, this will require Account Delegation in order for the SQL Server to trust the windows account credentials
which the RS server is passing on to it. This is often problematic to set up as it requires (from memory) kerberos authentication, several settings on the server Active Directory accounts (for both the server accounts and the user account), and is not usable
if your users and servers are in different AD forests.
Probably the easiest solution for you would be to create a SQL login on the SQL Server, and then use RSConfig.exe on the RS Server to tell Reporting Services to always use the new SQL login, instead of Windows Authentication.

  • Microsoft Reporting Services with BW

    Hi,
I have posted it in a Reporting Services forum, but seems no one can answer it.
We use Microsoft Reporting Services as the front end, to render data extracted from BW 7.0. The communication between Reporting Services and BW is based on Web Services, XMLA. And the username/password used for the connection is saved at Reporting Services side. The connection is fine, and everything works. However, we have got an issue at BW side, that every time a query request creates a session in BW system, and the session is never expired! So after a period of time, the memory will run out and BW server is not able to accept any new request. We have to manully log out those sessions, and then the BW server becomes available again.
My question is how to set up the account in BW for Reporting Services request, so that it won't exhaust the server?
    Thanks.

    Just a quick addition.
by transaction SM04, what i found in bw system is that when a report is run from Reporting Services side, the BW system actually creates more than 10 sessions under the same user name, with type Plugin HTTP. And even after I close the request from the Reporting Services side, the sessions are still there until you manually log them out.
Shouldn't the session type RFC rather than Plugin HTTP?

  • The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database

I have SQL server installed to I can connect to RS using my domain/user account. However, when I try to go to http://<machine_name>/Reports/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx, I get error as
        * The report server cannot open a connection to the report server database. A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing. (rsReportServerDatabaseUnavailable) Get Online Help
              o Login failed for user '<machine name>\ASPNET'
        * I also noticed that after I installed RS,I do not see reports folder under C:\Inetpub. This folder does not exist, I manually created reports virtual folder in IIS and liked it to  C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS10.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer
        * Thsi is obviously permissions issue and I missing something so your help will be really appreciated.
During installation, I always specified user as domain\user.
    Thanks

    Hi NewToReporting,
From you descriptions, I know you have tow questions: 1.Why the SQL Server Reporting Services does not create virtual directories in the wwwroot? 2. Why the error "A connection to the database is required for all requests and processing" happen? If I have misunderstood, please do not hesitate to let me know.
One of the changes in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 is the removal of the Internet Information Services (IIS) dependency. So, we won't see report server virtual directories in the wwwroot folder.
The second problem is caused by the user '<machine name>\ASPNET' does not have permission to login the SQL Server database "Reports".
To solve the issue, please follow these steps:
1.Open SQL Server Reporting Services Configuration Manager(Start - All Programs - Microsoft SQL Server 2008 - Configuration Tools)
    2.Go to "Database" tab.
    3.Click "Change Credential"
4.In the coming dialog, fill the textboxes with this information(some textboxes are not modifiable )
Server: <the server name of the report server catalog database>
Authentication Type: Current User - Integrated Security (This will use the user we are login to connect to the database server.)
UserName:(If selecting "Current User - Integrated Security", this textbox is not modifiable. )
Password:(If selecting "Current User - Integrated Security", this textbox is not modifiable. )
    5. Click Next
6.In the coming dialog, configure the following information:
Authentication Type: Service Credential(This will use the user the reporting services running under to connect to the report server catalog database. The user is the one we configured in "Service Account" tab)
UserName:(If selecting "Service Credential", this textbox is not modifiable. )
Password:(If selecting "Service Credential", this textbox is not modifiable. )
7.Click Next to confirm the information.
    8.Click Next to apply.
This will auto add the user  '<machine name>\ASPNET'  to login group, set this user to be the owner of report server catalog database, and also give this user "RSExce" role.
Now, we are able to connect to the report server.

  • [Forum FAQ] Configuration Manager Console shows nothing if you change SSRS to using SSL after Reporting Service Point is installed

If the SSRS is changed to SSL mode and http binding is removed after Reporting Service Point is installed. The Configuration Manager Console shows nothing in Reporting Pane. After digging into this problem, the cause is that the SSRS information has not
been updated in Configuration Manager Database. The following steps are taken for finding the root cause.
    1. After changing to SSL, the Reporting Service Point log shows the error as shown in Figure 1.
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found.
(!) SRS not detected as running
Failures reported during periodic health check by the SRS Server DB2.SCJIZHO.COM.
    Figure 1
From the error, seems the cause was the Reporting Service Point detected a wrong port. We digged around in Registry and found the information is a Registry key named ReportServerUri at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\SMS\SRSRP. After changing the Report
Server address to https. The error is gone as shown in Figure 2. But the issue remains, the Console still shows nothing. It is not a right direction.
    Figure 2
    2. Open the Console log file, it also shows some valuable information.

    Figure 3
It seems the Console wants to access the old http site and it fails to get into the site for sure. Actually, the Site Configuration information is come from Site Control File and as we all know that ConfigMgr 2012 doesn’t store the Site Control file in the
file system. However, it’s stored in the SQL database (as XML file). The XML file is stored in a view named vSMS_SC_SiteControlXML. This view is a read-only view. We cannot edit it directly. The related table stored the SSRS information for this view is SC_SysResUse_Property.
Running the following query will list the SSRS address. We can see the address is still the old one. This is why the Console shows nothing.
    SELECT
    name,
    value2
    FROM dbo.SC_SysResUse_Property
    where name
    ='ReportServerUri'
    or name=
    'ReportManagerUri'
    Remarks:
This article is just to let you know why the Console cannot show the Reports after changing to SSL mode. We do not intend to make you change the table in Database, if you want to change it, you will be at your own risk. The real solution to this situation
is to reinstall your Reporting Service Point.
