Request Deallocation?

I am looking at a couple of subvi that pull and process a large 2d array.  At the end of each subvi, the Request Deallocation is used.  Is that neccessary?  Is it a good practice?
Kudos and Accepted as Solution are welcome!

How do I prevent labview to allocate mulitple copies for the same array when the array is being passed in and out of different subvi?
Passing data in and out usually does not force LabVIEW to copy the data: You can verify with   Tools >> Profile >> Show Buffer Allocations...   that LabVIEW reuses the data on the wire and no copy will be made -> This is no use case for "Request Deallocation".

It depends on how the subVIs are allocating buffers.  Again, use Show Buffer Allocations...  in all subVIs. If no allocations take place, you do not have to worry. On the other hand: If you are unsure if the subVI allocates a buffer (e.g. because you might make a small change to it that forces LabVIEW to copy and you do not consider this at wiring time), you could place a "Request Deallocation" on the subVIs block diagram.  If there is a chance to free any memory, LabVIEW will do so when this VI finishes.  If there is nothing to deallocate -> "Request Deallocation" should be merely a "no operation".

  • Request time out when creating content database

    Hello,
my problem is, that i cannot create a SharePoint content database via the central administration.
    My Setup is the following:
    SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise Farm
    1x Applikation Server/WFE (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
1x Database Server MSSQL Server 2012 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
    1x TFS 2013 (Windows Server 2012 SP 1)
all of them are hosted in the same Hyper-V Environment. It is not the fasted Hyper-V Environment existing on planet earth.
The weirdest part of the problem is, i am able to create a content database via powershell.
I am running in some kind of time out issue related to the IIS and CA of that Applikation Server.
Here is the ULS Log from the failling content database creation via CA

The fact that i am able to create a content database through powershell sorts out permissions problems. I am certain of that because the w3wp.exe and the powershell.exe used for both creations were run under the same user.
The timeout always happens aroud 120 seconds after i started the creation. The creation via powershell takes about 3,5 minutes.
Here for the folks that ask me, why i haven't asked google or bing or some other search engine.
I tried the solutions suggested here
    http://www.sharepointpals.com/post/Error-while-Creating-Web-Application-through-Central-Administration , here
    http://anthonyspiteri.net/sharepoint-2010-web-ui-timeout-creating-web-application-quick-fix/ and here
    http://blogs.ibs.com/Duane.Odum/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?ID=33
which i thought pointed me to the right solution.
But those post unfortunatly didnt worked out.
I also tried to alter the web.config files (i know that isn't recommended or supported, but it didn't change anything so those are back to normal as well)
    So here are my question:
Can you guys help me solve this issue?
Are there any other places where timeouts can be managed or defined?
P.S.: I am new to using this forum. so pls don't crucify me for doing a mistake.
P.S.S: My english is very poor also :D
    With best regards
    Simon

Be careful with settings like these because there may be a much deeper issue at hand. I have had an issue with a customer that manifests itself as a timeout on a site collection. It was very hard to track since it didn't happen frequently. We engaged Microsoft
Support to find out the root cause but all they could point at is a general network issue that pertains to authentication. After digging deeper, we found out that the network issue was caused by a saturated network connectivity to the domain controller that
impacts a site collection when the database is making an authentication call. Keep this solution as more of a quick fix but be sure to conduct a deeper investigation of the real root cause

This TSQL will do the trick. It's not the cleanest as I just wrote it, but it will dynamically remove the & from the data mapping tables and replace any invalid entries with the phrase INVALID.

  • How to deallocate memory used by the labview program?

    Hi,
I have bulit a large application in labview 2012 that uses a couple of subvis, local and global variables, some uninitialized shift registers (functional global variables) and some c++ and .net dlls as well. When I open my application the memory usage shown at Windows task manager is around 1.4GB. After running the application and enabling all processes used in the application, the memory usage goes up to 1.55GB but when i stop the application, memory is never released/deallocated until i close the application plus exit labview. Can you suggest how to deallocate this memory? and how can i use the request deallocation function for this application? labview help says i have to place it inside a subVI for which i want to deallocate memory. But i have a lot of subVIs used in my application. I tried placing it in the top level VI and called it after stopping all processes but it didn't work... I am also closing references to all of the .net dlls at the end. Any workarounds??
    Thanks

You already got some good advice. One thing that was not clear was how you are measuring memory. Since the task manager is capable of showing the memory used by LabVIEW alone (you simply need to look elsewhere), and you said that the memory gets released when you exit LabVIEW, you gave the impression that the 1.4GB was the LabVIEW portion.
OK, so a couple of hundred MB used by LabVIEW is really nothing to worry about. Are you running into memory or other performance problems? What are the symptoms?

We really need to see some code. It is very well posssible that you have a lots of unecessary data copies in memory due to sloppy programming. How big are the data structures? Do you use local variables for big data structures? What does the program actually do?

  • Request deallocation function with reentrant clones

I have a standalone application (Labview version 12) that is processing very large chunks of data. Each batch run can take hours to complete.  I am storing all intermediate data in files to avoid running out of memory but still I am having occasional issues of running out of memory.  I never have an error on the first batch, only on the 2nd or 3rd.  I am experimenting with using the request deallocation function at the end of each batch but I am not clear on how/when it takes affect.
There are 2 sub VIs that do all the work so I have placed the request deallocation in these with a boolean input to be true the last time it is called.  After the last call, the main application is idle waiting for the user to request another batch so this seems like the logical time to deallocate. These subs are configured as shared clone reentrant. They also have subs 2-3 levels deep.  How does the request for deallocation take effect for reentrant VIs?  Are all clones deallocated or just one?  What about VIs called within a deallocated sub? Are they included in the garbage collection or does each sub VI called have to be deallocated seperatly?

    Hi chiraldude
I think that if the SubVI is not dynamic, (being part of the application) it will be keep in memory while the top level VI is running. If you load the VI dynamically, the deallocation will be done when all references are closed.
The last time I poked around with the de-allocate, it only cam e into play when the VI in question was marked for removal from memory. If the sub-VI is part of the app (not dynamic) it will not be marked for removal while the top-level VI is running.
However, I would like to recomen another tool that might come in very handy with this case, the place element structure.

  • Request deallocation

I understand LV "manages" it's own memory. So what is the purpose of the request deallocation vi?
    PaulG.
"I enjoy talking to you. Your mind appeals to me. It resembles my own mind except that you happen to be insane." -- George Orwell

Labview is a managed memory language which makes programming very easy but you do loose some fine control over the process.  An analogy:
Imagine used memory like garbage.  You place the trash (no longer needed allocated memory) on the curb every night, in an unmanaged system this will build up until there is no more space on the curb (out of memory error/slow system response/ crashes).  In c++ and other unmanaged languages when you allocate memory you must explicitly free it, memory is a finite resource so if you use a lot of make sure you return it.  So in an unmanaged system you must take the garbage to the local dump (deallocate used memory), this is a tedious task best left up to a trash collection service.  This is where managed systems like labview (java and c# do this but LV did it many years before it became cool to be managed).  Labview has a garbage service which will periodically pick up your trash so it doesn't build up.  So you wonder "Why request deallocation?".  Lets say you had a party last weekend and you have 10 huge bags of garbage which you put on the curb.  Garbage services don't come till Wednesday, so you call up for a special pickup to collect the excess trash.  I use the request deallocation for the same instances: a subvi which uses a huge amount (large arrays) for temporary processing and are called often, you can deallocate memory after such calls explicitly.  If you notice that your application seems to slow after many repeated calls, it can help to let LV know you wont need the large chunks of memory a subvi needed for temporary buffers.  I don't know the inner workings on LV garbage collection but I found that the request deallocation has helped me out of a few difficult situations.  As far as deallocating memory while a vi or subvi is still running (like is possible in c/c++) I haven't figured out how to do it if it is even possible.

  • How do I deallocate counter buffers?

I'm using a buffered counter operation for encoder measurement. I don't see a way to deallocate the buffered memory in Labview. How is this done?
When using the AI VI's, the AI Clear VI deallocates the memory used by the AI buffer. There must be similar functionality for the counter buffers.
    Thanks,
    rgames

    Hi rgames,
If you have sub VIs that are using your buffered memory, you can make a call to the Request Deallocation VI under Advanced >> Data Manipulation of LabVIEW 7.0. In previous versions of LabVIEW, there was an option to deallocate memory as soon as possible under Tools >> Options >> Performance and Disk.
    Hope this helps!

  • Get all values from request.getParameter

In ASP, I can do something like that...
    For each item in Request.Form
    Response.write "Name is:" & item & " value is:" & Request(item)
    Next
How about in JSP? How do i get the names and values of the form using a loop?

You can use request.getParameterNames() which will return an enumeration, then you can iterate through the enumeration and use request.getParameterValue(String paramName) method to get the values.

  • Error while releasing a request.

    Hi All,
I'm facing an error while releasing a request.
The request contains an ABAP programs along with two INCLUDDE programs as well as a TCode to run the same.
It is running successfully in dev. server. But, while releasing ths request it shows me the following error :
    " Object REPT ZBAPI_SD_SERV_SALES_ORDER is inactive " ,
where ZBAPI_SD_SERV_SALES_ORDER is the program name. When I checked out in ABAP editor it shows the program active.
But, I'm unable to understand why its showing me an inactivation error.
Guys, help me out in this.

    Hi,
Check if the INCLUDE program are also ACTIVE. They must be in inactive state. Try activating them and release the request.
    Regards,
    Vikranth

  • Error:  "Could not complete your request because of a program error" (photoshop CS2 9.0.2 on MAC OSX

Today I started my program (photoshop CS2 9.0.2) and opened a JPG file. When I went to print the file the program crashed and closed. When I restarted the program and went to open the file I got this error message, "Could not complete your request because of a program error".
I have tried several different file types/sizes and all result in the same error message since the program crashed. It will not open any file I try to open. As I indicated above I am using Photoshop CS2 9.0.2 it is on a MAC with OSX 10.4.11.
I called Adobe and the Rep directed me to Tech Note 331307 and told me to Re-create the Photoshop preferences files. Which I did and restarted the program, but when I tried to open a file (any file) I still get the same error message so it doesn't appear to be the preferences.
Does anyone have any info as to what the problem may be and how to correct it.
    Thanks

Thanks for the response. OK... This is the first day I have been able to get back to the problem.
My system I am running Photoshop on is a Power Mac G4, AGP Graphics ATY Rage 128Pro chip set 16MB VRAM LCD 1280x1024 32-bit color, 500MHz, 1.75GB of memory, 1 MB L2 Cache, 100 MHz Bus Speed. I had installed the latest security update and repaired the permissions the day the problem started.
Now to day I started the system and went in and created a Guest Account. I logged into the guest account and started Photoshop. Low and behold it worked just fine. So I logged out of guest and logged into my main user account And started Photoshop. Wouldn't you know it.... It works just fine. I can open any file I want with now problems.
I got to thinking after I had done all of this that I wished I had tried to open a file in Photoshop today prior to creating the guest account to see if it still had the problem in my main user account.
I did not change anything else on the system and all seems to work fine now. So at his point I am really not sure what the problem was.
Again thanks for taking the time to respond to this issue.

If you delete a reques from psa, that request desappears from the psa, doesn't it?
    Thanks in advance,

  • Unable to capture the Data Source into a Transport Request

    Hi All,
We have a product hierarchy and we are using the data source :4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER for the hierarchy.
Now we need to transport this structure to the quality environment but we were not able to capture the datasource:4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER into a transport request.
When ever we activate the data source:4R_PRODH_D_LGEN_HIER it is asking for the Package and the Transport Request Number. If we give these details and save it, data source is not getting captured in the request, only the "bject Directory Entry" is getting captured.
Can someone please guide me on how to capture the datasource under "Data Sources in BW" in a transport request.
    Regards,
    Sachin Dehey.

    Hi Sachin,
Hierarachy datasource is not captured as Attributes and Text Datasource. So what ever you have done is correct.
What ever is captured in Object Directory Entry is correct. So go ahead with your transports, once transport is done check the Hierarchy Infopackage with Available OLTP hierarchies and load the data.
Most important thing first see that the all Master & Transactional Datasources are transported in R/3 Dev to QA to PRD
In BW, datasources are not transported, only their replica is transported.
Transportation of Datasource is done in R/3. Only their replica is transported in BW.
So wht ever you have done till now is correct. So go ahead.
While attaching Hierarchy Datasource it is captured only in "Object Directory Entry"
    Regards,
    Vishnu.

    Dear Pugal
we are not using GLM + and I am not sure about the technqiue used there to handle load balancing. Regarding general WWI setup I assume you know this Note: EH&S: Availability and performance of WWI and Expert servers
On the top there is a further SAP Note abvailable which might be of interest. This is referenced here:
    http://de.scribd.com/doc/191576739/011000358700000861002013-e
May be check OSS note: 1958655; OSS Note 1155294 is more related to normal WWI stuff; but may be check it as well. May be 1934253 might help better
    May be this might help.
    C.B.
PS: may be check as well: consolut - EHS_MD_140_01 - EH&S-Management-Server einrichten
The load balancing of synchron WWi servers is donein the "RFC" layer, therefore you have no inffluence here, for asynchron WWI servers you can do a lot to manage the WWI load balancing by using "exits" etc.

  • My iphone wont let me play songs that I bought from iTunes. It says "The requested URL was not found on this server" How can i play my music also my music videos again?

I bought a few songs and music videos from iTunes, then all of a sudden it wouldn't play and would just skip to the next song. With the music videos it would do the same. Also, this message would show up " The Requested URL could not be found on this server" What does that exactly mean? And what do I need to do to play my music/videos again?
