Reset Password "No Users Available"

I work at the IT Help Desk at the University of Montana and I've had two people come in with new Macbooks that have forgotten their passwords. I ran through the normal routine of starting up with a Mac OS X disc and reset their password. Everything up until there works fine but when we restart the computer it brings up the log-in window and the account or password doesn't work. I have restarted the computers with the Mac OS X disc again and tried to reset the password and it says "No Users Available" and I open up the terminal and type "ls" and nothing shows up. Any ideas?

maybe your netinfo db is corrupted.
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107210
then startup in single user mode
type
/sbin/mount -uaw
rm /var/db/.applesetupdone
reboot
setup start. you should create new admin user. USE DIFFERENT SHORTNAME from the current.

    Hello Aditi,
In AS Java 7.1 and higher you go to short link /nwa and navigate
to Configuration -> Infrastructure -> Java System Properties – Switch to
application tab in second section (Details about <InstanceName>) ->
    search for tc~idm~jmx~app.
For 7.0 you have to do that in Visual Admin but I would need to read docu to know where it is too.
But you can find that all in UI installation guide http://service.sap.com/~sapidb/011000358700001233082010E

  • How to Reset Password of User while not connected to Domain using Local Admin Account

How to Reset Password of User while not connected to the Domain using Local Admin Account
(I have the use of a local admin account), and I want to help a user reset their password who has logged in the PC and had their credentials cached, but forgot this password.
    In Local Admin Account :
When I go to Control Panel, users, users, manager user ; I cannot see any users in this window except the local admin account, and, so I cannot reset a user password this way.
When I go to lusrmgr.msc, then users ; the local admin account will display only.
If I go to command prompt and type "net user", this will not display any users who have logged in to the computer, and so I cannot use "net user" to reset a password.
I don't want to use any disks, 3rd party programs, or create a VPN connection to the domain.  I just want to help a user who calls in and forgets their password.

    Hello Keith,
I know this is an old thread but I'm trying to better understand how I could change the domain password while not on the network. What I'm getting from your post is that you:
    1. Create a local user account (not a domain user)
    2. Login with that local user account
    3. Connect to the VPN while logged in as a local user
    4. Log out of the local account and login with the domain credentials
Now, my question is based on the assumption that the password created on the local account is the same password that one will use to login to the domain account? Also, is the local user account the same as the domain account?
    Thanking you in advance!

  • Used "Reset Password", now "No available users"

I started up an old G4 running OS X Server 10.4.1 but couldn't remember the user or password. I put in an Install Disc, ran "Reset Password" from the disc, changed the password for our "Admin" user (not the System/Room user), hit "Save", Quit and restarted the computer.
    The new password wouldn't take.
I put in the Install Disc again, ran "Reset Password" again but now my volume indicates that there are "No available users".
    Can anyone help me out?
    A million thanks in advance.

Perform the instructions in sections 1 and 2 of this article; if you don't have a backup or the issue persists, perform the instructions in sections 1 and 3 and then recreate the accounts in the same order they were initially created with new passwords. None of your documents or other files will be deleted from the computer if this is done properly.

  • Restrict password resets to certain user groups in UME

I am investigating if it is possible to create a UME action which restricts admins to unlocking/locking IDs and resetting passwords for users in a certain user group.  I know you may need to create a UME permission class and action.  Has anyone done this?  If so how?

    Hi Mosi,

  • How to make a reset password function work in OIM?

There is a requirement for resetting password for users in OIM.
An OIM admin should be able to reset a password for a specific user, and the new password which should NOT be known by the admin will be sent to the user via email. And the user will be required to change his password when he logins with the new password.
I know there is a 'Change Password' button in User Detail page. But the problem is the admin has to type a password for the user, which means the new password is exposed. Ideally, the new password is generated by system. Has anyone had any experience in dealing with this kind of case? Thanks!

See if this can solve or answer your requirements.
When User's account is locked, It is assumed that he has forgotten his password.
Write a scheduled task which looks for all the locked users.
    Generate temporary password for them.
Send that password in a mail to those users.
This may not be exactly how you want it to be. But this will require lesses efforts as compared to customizing "Change Password" button on admin console.
To make it the way you want, Following approach can be useful.
Admin console of OIM is made using struts framework. So If you know struts, Reading into struts-config.xml file will tell you the action class which is executed on click of "Change Password".
Modify that action class and make it the way you want that to be.

  • SAPGUI - Auto password reset option for users

    Hi
We currently have R3 ECC 5.0 implemented across our locations. We have very high calls registered to our support team for password reset.
we want to know whether there is a option available wherein users can select a option "Forgot password / Reset password" based on which system should auto generate the password and send the same through e-mail to the user. This will be a kind of self service for the users.

  • Password reset issue for users

Ok this is driving me nuts and hopefully there is a simple answer.
I am running a new fully update 10.8 server. I have setup open directory and have profile manager running. From the server app I go into the users pane, i select a standard user (non admin) and right click to choose reset password. I enter a new password in and verify and click ok. To test this I goto the my devices page from the web and it gives me an invalid password message. I know its right. I have reset it and restarted the server to no avail. What can be going wrong here?

    Sean,
I would stop every service and then lauching only:
    1. DNS
    2. Open Directory
    3. File Sharing
and then: "last time" (hopefully) reboot of the machine.
This is to reduce the sideeffects.
After the reboot I would check the logs of all those services after the reboot and check if they writing errors into.
    What is happening then?
    ~ Markus
P.S.: Anyway, how is your server installed? Is this server available from the internet or only in a local network?

Are your sure that wasn't a Verbose boot (Cmd-V) you were trying? That would go on to a regular boot.
Try a PRAM Reset, then try the single user, Cmd-S, at the startup chime. For the PRAM Reset, hold down Option - Cmd - P - R all together until it chimes a total of three times, then let go to finish booting.
