Reset subforms on pdf reload

I have a problem when loading a pdf which has partially filled in form field values.
The form has repeating sections and multiple related sections.
There are several drop down lists and radio button lists which control the display of other sections.
This is my scenario:
Open a new form, this has R1 with subform X1 as default
Enter data in fields
Make radio button selection (R1) which removes one subform(X1) and adds another (A1).
The new subform(A1) has a drop down list(D1) which when changed, adds another subform(B1) and removes others(Y1).
Add a copy of the first form which creates another radio button list (R2) and default subform X2.
Make radio button selection (R2) which removes one subform(X2) and adds another (A2).
The new subform(A2) has a drop down list(D2) which when changed, adds another subform(B2) and removes others(Y2).
Save the form with the selections and close the form.
Reload the form.
The previous selections made are displayed but the removed subforms are not removed. That is, X1 and A1 are shown, B1 and Y1, X2 and A2, etc.
It appears that the change event of the radio buttons and ddlists are not triggered on document load - the reference documentation for Designer confirms this.
So my problem is how to redo all the show/hides actions (which occurred in interactive mode) on document loading. (The document must work correctly both when a brand new form empty form is loaded and also when a partially prepopulated form is loaded. As well as the interactive actions working as expected.)
Solutions that I have looked at are fiddling with the settings of forms, and forcing the running of the change events.
Which would be the right approach?
To force a change event I need to find another event which occurs only on document load and force the change event from there.
There are two decisions to be made - which event and which object to select for the event?
There are multiple possible events to hook into but I am not sure which is the best one.
The Process events that I have looked at are
initialize
docReady
form:ready
layout:ready
layout:ready does not seem the right one as I need to change the layout and there are specific warnings against that, so I reject this one.
initialize also does not seem the right one as I need access to data and I believe that necessary info may not be available, so I reject this one.
That leaves docReady and form:ready. In my tests both seem to work so which is the right/better one?
Then the question of which object to use must be answered.
I tried using the form:ready event on the radio button(R1) to trigger the change event of R1. This certainly ran the change event correctly when the form was loaded with data.
Then I needed to put a form:ready event on the drop down list (D1) to run the change event so that the B1 forms were also updated.
This resulted in the sequence of events running thus:
R1 change event
D2 change event
D1 change event
R2 change event
So the sequence was out of kilter. Since the R2 change event had not run first before the D2 change event, various form settings were not in place so the display still was not correct.
So, not right yet.
Can anyone assist me on the right track or show me where to read some advice on this requirement? Am I on the right track at all?
All suggestions appreciated.

In the end I achieved what I wanted by using scripting in the form:ready event of specific objects.
The radio button list (R1) has a form:ready event in which I called the change event.
In turn the R1 change event calls the D1 change event.
When I tracked these events through the form loading process then I got the desired sequence R1, D1, R2, D2, etc etc.
Because the default value of R1 is to show the A1 subform, then when a brand new form is loaded, and the R1 change event is called from the form:ready event, then A1 form is initially displayed as required (even though the subform has the pagination property having initial count of 0).
The solution turned out to be rather more complicated than I would have liked but at least it works.

  • Preview "resets" view when PDF file changes on disk

    Hello,
I'm using LaTeX to generate a PDF document. When the PDF is open in Preview, I typically zoom in so that I can focus on part of the page. However, every time I update the PDF file, Preview reloads it but resets the page view to the top left corner of the page.
Is there a hidden setting to force Preview to keep the zoom and position settings that it had before reloading the PDF? There used to be an option like this in xpdf (called "keep" if I remember well), and Skim can do it.
    Thanks!

Then I'd have to agree - just don't try previewing PDFs from Preview. In most cases, the web browser relies on server headers and user configuration for what to do with PDF files when they're selected (open via plug-in, download, etc.). I wouldn't expect a basic layout preview engine to be able to handle that sort of thing.

  • Is There Way To RESET A Called PDF In Reader9?

Is there a way to RESET all form fields in a called PDF? I wish to clear all form fields in the called PDF "Client File", as opened in the sample below.
    var otherDoc = app.openDoc("../Setup/Client File", this);

You will have to make sure that the 'disclosed' property of the other PDF is set to 'true'.

  • Created Adobe Portfolio - now all pdf reload with open

Help! I needed to email 70 pdfs. Instead of putting them all into one large pdf, I used the 'suggestion' in the new Macintosh Acrobat Pro 9 that I use a Pdf Portfolio. ( I used three Portfolios, then emailed them using the "email this portfolio" button that is incorporated into the Portfolio design.)
That worked with mixed results (some of the recipients couldn't open the portfolios, probably because they were using an older version of Acrobat.)
However, the problem I am having is now when I open my Acrobat program, it automatically attempts to load ALL the pdfs from one of the Portfolio. It keeps opening them until it can't open any more. Then I have to force quit.
I looked in the  System file to find a preferences file or something like that in order to throw it out, and hope that the program would rebuild a new one - but I couldn't figure out what might provide the same function. (It's been a while since I looked in a Mac  System  Folder.)
Does anyone have a fix for this?
    Thanks!
    CLShay

Rule number one: NEVER MESS WITH THE SYSTEM FOLDER.
You can mess with the Library folder, you can mess with your USER Library Folder, but if you mess with the SYSTEM FOLDER you will find out that TOAST can refer to more than the ROXIO CD/DVD burning software.
Preference files can be found in Library/Preferences (you will find nothing useful here for you)
There is Library/Application Support/Adobe/Acrobat (nothing useful here either)
Users/username/Library/Adobe/Acrobat (delete as you wish-however you may not like the results)
    Users/username/Library/"Application Support/Aodbe/Acrobat" (nothing useful here)
Users/username/Library/Preferences/Acrobat (this is what you are looking for---delete as necessary)
However, my recommendation is to use a utility like Applejack or Onyx to remove both system and user caches.

Install the latest update of Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
Adobe releases free security updates quarterly. It is important to update your version of Reader or Acrobat to the latest release. The updates often include fixes to common problems. Download the latest free update:
Note: Microsoft Windows 7 requires Adobe Reader 9.2 or later.
    1.      Open Reader or Acrobat.
    2.      Choose Help > Check for Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
    3.      Once installed, restart your computer.

Refresh or reload the page (done, no effect)
Often, just refreshing the page allows the PDF to load fully.
Hold down the Shift key and press the    Refresh or    Reload button in the browser.
Try to view a different PDF (done, no effect)
Try viewing a different PDF. For example, see if this sample form<http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Samples/flatform.pdf> displays in your browser.(DOES NOT OPEN) If Acrobat or Reader can open the sample form, then the other PDF could be damaged or the web server could be having problems. If possible, contact the individual or company who manages the website.

Problem with the browser or its settings?
Use a different web browser  (Pdf'S open in alternate browsers)
Certain conditions on your computer, such as security settings or browser cookies, can prevent you from viewing a PDF. Often, the fastest solution is to try to open the page using a different browser. Try any of the following browsers that you have not already tried:
    Mozilla Firefox<http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/>
    Microsoft Internet Explorer<http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/default.aspx>
    Apple Safari<http://www.apple.com/safari/download>
For a list of compatible browsers for Reader and Acrobat X, see this list of Compatible web browsers<http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/compatible-web-browsers-pdfmaker-applications.html>.
Switch to Compatibility View (Internet Explorer) (done, no effect)
Some websites display better in the Compatibility View of Internet Explorer. The Compatibility View displays a page as if it was an earlier version of the browser. For instructions on how to switch to this view, see one of these documents on the Microsoft website:
Internet Explorer 9: How to use Compatibility View in Internet Explorer 9<http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/How-to-use-Compatibility-View-in-Internet-Expl orer-9>
Internet Explorer 8: Why are some web pages blank or incorrectly displayed in Internet Explorer<http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/webpages-look-incorrect-in-Internet-Explorer>.
Restart your computer and try opening the PDF again (done, no effect)
Restart your computer, then open the web page again. Restarting clears the computer memory and memory cache. It is surprising how often simply restarting your computer resolves a display issue.
Delete temporary Internet files (Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome) (done, no effect)
Clear the browser cache (sometimes called 'temporary Internet files') to ensure that you are viewing a fresh version of the page. When you open a web page, the browser saves a temporary copy so that it opens more quickly next time. You want to force the browser to load the entire page directly from the server, rather than displaying a stored copy.
Reset the Display PDF In Browser preference (done, no effect)
    1.      In Reader or Acrobat, right-click the document window, and select Page Display Preferences.
    2.      From the list at left, select Internet.
    3.      Deselect Display PDF In Browser, and then click OK.
    4.      Choose Edit > Preferences > Internet, select Display PDF In Browser, and then click OK.
    5.      Try to open the PDF again from the website.
View PDF in 32-bit version of Internet Explorer or Safari (done, no effect)
Acrobat and Reader are 32-bit applications on Windows. If you try to open a PDF in a 64-bit version of Internet Explorer, the PDF opens in stand-alone Acrobat or Reader, not in Internet Explorer.
Remove DreamFactory (Firefox only) (done, no effect)
If you receive the error "Cannot use Adobe Reader to view PDFs in your web browser," do the following:
    1.      Choose Start > Run, type appwiz.cpl in the Open text box, and then click OK to open the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box.
    2.      Select Change Or Remove Programs in the Add Or Remove Programs dialog box, select DreamFactory Runtime for Netscape, Mozilla and Firefox, and click Change/Remove.
    3.      Click OK in the Remove Programs From Your Computer dialog box.

Remove unmatched or multiple versions of Reader or Acrobat  (already did this including running a cleaner from the Adobe site) (done, no effect)
Repair Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
Reader or Acrobat could be damaged. Repairing the installation is a quick troubleshooting safeguard.
Repair from within Reader or Acrobat (done, no effect)
(Reader) Choose Help > Repair Adobe Reader Installation.
(Acrobat) Choose Help > Repair Acrobat Installation.
Repair using Control Panel (Windows) (done, no effect)
You can also repair your Acrobat or Reader installation using the Windows Control Panel.
Enable the Adobe PDF browser add-on (Internet Explorer) (done, no effect)
Make sure that the Adobe PDF browser add-on, AdobePDF.dll, is enabled.
Run Acrobat or Reader in a new local administrator account (done, no effect)

I have 5th gen iPod classic and although it is recognised by my windows vista software within the "computer" tab. iTunes does not see it.  I have totally reset my iPod and reloaded the iTunes software on my PC (which actually sorted my issues with mt 32gb touch) but to no avail.
Any assistance would be grately appreciated?

Nothing has changed frlom when it worked on Saturday to it not working on Sunday!  The iPod does not appear in iTunes on either my laptop or my PC.  The iPod appears to be fully functional, the wheel works and the date/time etc is all correct.  However, it is empty of all music and videos.  It was almost full (give or take 10 gb)
The display on the iPod says connected!  Is there a setting on it which changes it from an iPod to a disc drive?  Other than that, I can see what's wrong.
Everything is working perfectly apart from it's deleted all my stuff and the PC only sees it as an external hard drive?
As I said, my touch is fine

  • Firefox 15 freezes on printing PDF to Adobe PDF Creator printer

I just installed Firefox 15.0.1 on WIndows XP SP2. Also installed NoScript 2.5.5 and DownloadHelper 4.9.9, current Flash plugin and Shockwave.
The browser seems to print fine to all my physical printers. But when I attempt to print to the Adobe PDF printer driver, Firefox freezes. Windows XP's spooler reports that a job is being spooled to the queue but it seems Firefox never opens up the PDF WIndows File dialog to create and save the file. I must force-close Firefox from the Task Manager, it is frozen solid.
Upon force-close, Windows reports that a print job was sent to the Adobe PDF printer (I turned on notifications).
I have attempted running Firefox in Safe Mode. I have attempted to reset printer in about:config; I have removed all printer lines in prefs.js. I have disabled both plugins (the only 2 enabled when running in standard mode), I have checked Page Setup specs.
I have no crash ID as I must force-close the program in order to get out of it, it never recovers.
It seems from here that Firefox is failing to open up the File dialog for the PDF, and therefore it simply hangs waiting for the PDF driver to unlock it and return focus.
Any help would be appreciated! I am using the same version of the PDF converter driver on another machine, also running WIndows XP SP2, running Firefox 3.6, and it gives me no problems whatsoever.

In some versions of Acrobat, there are two printers created. If you have one named "Distiller" could you try printing to that one?
You also could reset the printing preferences stored by Firefox.
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the filter box, type or paste '''printer''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Right-click '''print.print_printer''' and choose Reset. You can reset your Adobe PDF printer-specific settings as well, which will take many clicks....
    Any luck?

  • Lock/Password in pdf of Adobe forms

    Hi,
I want to include password /lock concept means when user run the program the pdf should be downloaded with password. so that only the person who runs the report can able to see the output using the password

    Hi Anurodh,
    Just do the following:
    1. Put all the subforms in a single subform your pdf form.
    2. Create another subform to get password from user. On it create a password field and a button.
    3. Now suppose in your pdf the main subform let 'A' contains subforms A1, A2, A3. A3 is password form.
    4. Then write the following code in the form:ready event of the A:
    $.A1.presence =  "hidden"
    $.A2.presence =  "hidden"
    5. Write the following code in the click event of the button on the subform for password i.e. A3.
    if( PasswordField1.rawValue == "password" )
    then
    A.A1.presence = "visible"
    A.A2.presence = "visible"
    $.parent.presence = "hidden"
    else
    $host.messageBox("Wrong Password!!!!!")
    endif
Hope it will help to create a password protected pdf form.

  • PDF Pop-ups Not Opening In Browser

For someone here at work, when they're in the campus web-based HR reporting system and they run a report, instead of popping the PDF up into a browser window/tab, she gets a download dialog box (save or cancel, etc).
I have reset the 'open PDF in browser' internet setting for her within Adobe Reader (i.e. deselected it, closed, reopened and reselected that option).
    IE's pop-up blocker is off.
    Still the problem persists.
To check on whether it may be something not getting through from a GPO in the AD, we had her log onto another like computer in the same office, and everything works fine on that one.
    System details:
    Win7 Ent. 64
    Adobe Reader X
IE 8 (required for this site I think)
    Latest Java
I have even completely uninstalled/cleaned out everything Adobe and Java and reinstalled after reboot and check disk.
Any ideas what's going on here?

The Adobe Reader plugin may not work properly on Mac and the recommendation in the past was to disable the Adobe Reader plugin in Firefox (Tools > Add-ons > Plugins) and use the external Adobe Reader application or Preview application.
Note that there are other things that may need attention.
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)

  • PDF Print Settings

    Hi all,
Can you please let me know where to find the settings for the following options:
    1) We are on BI 7.0 and we are using Portal to run the reports. After the report is generated when we choose the Print Version (to print to PDF), the dialog box that appears shows the Margins option in mm. I would like to default it to inch. It uses the '0ANALYSIS_PATTERN' template. Can you please let me know where to find this setting.
    2) I also have another problem while printing to PDF or Export to Excel. I have some column headings that show up in 2 lines. For eg: Curren Month / Actual. Here Current Month shows up in one line and Actual shows up in next line. ( There are not 2 lines, instead of showing the entire column heading too wide, we just split it). When we print, the second line is not showing up. Any idea where to do the setting for this in the template to show the 2nd line also.
    Thanks for your time,
    Ram.

I'm interested in the resetting of the PDF print settings too.  Is there an answer to Ram's posting?
Also interested in knowing where one would go looking if the "Print Version" button in a BEx Query works in Development and Production, but not QA.  QA gets a "(410) Unauthorized" with AdobeDocumentServices/Config?style=document" at the end of the URL.

  • Why did I have to reset safari in order to be able to see an updated page in third party browsers?

Why would Safari's Web Cache be used by Other Third Party Browsers (Chrome, Opera, Camino) under OS X 10.6.8 (Safari 5.1), This is functionality that needs to be stripped from OS X or at least selectable so that it can be turned off for web design professionals like myself.  I had to reset Safari in order to view my own website that was just reuploaded on the server but Safari's web cache was still holding the old page for all browsers and until reset refused to force reload the page from the server in all browsers under OS X...

However, I don't know what necessary codes do I need to write or to include to enable such function? Would anyone help to give me some guideline? If possible, would you please give me some code sample?
    Thanks a lot!

you either have to code for everything to reset or you can reload your current page:
    loadMoveNum(this._url,0);
