Resetting and reinstalling admin utility on Graphite

I have connected my Airport to a G4 with a
crossover cable and wanted to try to install the whole admin utility from
the Mac running Panther. Is there a file I can download to the G4 for the
original graphite Airport which I can then install onto that Airport which
might cure (meaning overwrite) a password which I have tried to get rid of but which STILL seems to be on the
Airport? (for some reason I can plug it in and wait and wait to press the reset hole but the three lights do NOT seem ever to flash orange or green: The most I can get is one of them going green) In order to press the reset button with a crossover cable
connected and reinstall the admin utility, do I need to have the G4
configured to any particular IP address or DNS (as set out on 58613)? (or,
he asked quietly, is all this done at OS level in Panther itself without
downloads? And if so, how?)
One other point, The reason I am asking this is that I am actually using my
Netgear WiFi router to connect my PC and G4 to the internet. Should I be
able to pick up a signal from the airport when the airport isn't actually
connected to the Internet? At the moment all I want to do is to reset it
and reinstall the software on it. (The G4 is nowhere near my Cable Modem).

Right after plugging the Graphite Airport into power all three status LEDs should glow amber (indicating the Base Station is in its power on self-test mode). That is your window of opportunity, when you should be pushing the reset button. As stated in the instructions you should at that point "Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds. The middle AirPort Base Station status light glows amber (yellow or orange). If the light glows green, you pressed the reset button too late." If you pushed the button too late, you have to unplug the Base Station from power, plug it back into power, and try again - pushing the reset button a bit sooner this time. That is all there is to it.
If your Base Station never shows three amber status lights immediately after power up, it is not operating normally and is likely defective. In that case, there is nothing you can do about it.
The Airport Admin Utility is already installed on your Mac, and any version of that utility is all you need to to a software reload of your Graphite Base Station, and to reconfigure it. The Airport Admin Utility is found in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder, on your Mac.
Two final points:
1. it is not necessary to have any computer connected to the Base Station to be able to successfully get the Base Station into reset mode.
2. if I understand your original posted message correctly, you already have a Netgear WiFi router. Note that you can NOT set up the Graphite Base Station to connect wirelessly to that Netgear WiFi router. The only way you can get a Graphite Base Station to communicate with a Netgear WiFi router is to connect the two directly to each other via an ethernet cable - which I suspect is not what you had in mind.

  • How can I get AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 to work with OS10.6?

I've upgraded to the latest version of Mac OS and now AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow 4.2.5 won't run. Any suggestions on how to either run this utility or otherwise get access to my old Snow Dual Airport via another method? Airport Utility doesn't see the device, despite repeated scans. My computer and iPad connect no problem to the device, but both iPod and iPhone won't take and hold an IP address. (If any one can help me solve this issue, I can live without access the Airport.)
    Thanks,

Unfortunately, you will need another Mac running a much earlier version of OS X to be able to install AirPort Admin Utility and make any settings chances to the router.
Since the normal life of a wireless router is around 5-6 years of use, now might be the time to consider a new router that will provide far better performance than the older Graphite/Snow AirPort.

  • Need AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow

hey there.....any help would be greatly appreciated.....
I ave passed along my graphite base station to my brother in law for his new iMac and it seems he needs the "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow" to get it set up. The new "Airport Utility" doesn't seem to recognize it. Is the utility still available for download? I can't seem to find it anywhere?
Another option....is it possible to copy and paste the utility into my iDisk and have him download it from there?? Not sure it that will work??
Again...many thanks for any help anyone can offer!!!!!

AirPort Admin Utility, version 4.2, which works with Graphite and Snow base stations, can be found within the download of AirPort 4.2 (http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/airport42formacosx1033.html).
I tried it on my MacBook running Mac OS X 10.4.10, with a Graphite base station, and it works fine, so far as I can tell.
I did not actually try to install AirPort 4.2 using the installer, because I was afraid of messing with my system when all I wanted was the utility. Here is how to get it:
    - Download the disk image AirPortSW42.dmg from the Web page mentioned above. If the installer launches, quit the installer.
    - Double-click the disk image to mount a volume named "AirPort 4.2 Update."
    - Within the AirPort 4.2 Update window, ctrl-click on "AirPortSW.pkg."
    - Select "Show Package Contents."
    - Open the "Contents" folder.
    - Double-click the "Archive.pax.gz" file, which causes an "Archive.pax" file and an "Archive" folder to be extracted to the desktop.
    - Open the "Archive" folder, the "Applications" folder within it, and the "Utilities" folder within that.
    - The AirPort Admin Utility is there. You can move it to Applications/Utilities and discard everything else that was downloaded.
Thanks to Tesserax (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=5136389&#5136389) for recently explaining how to extract an AirPort utility from a download package.
Although I have never seen "AirPort Admin Utility for Graphite and Snow," it probably was the same thing as AirPort Admin Utility, just renamed.

  • The Audio portion of my 30 pin slot on my iPhone stopped working for no known reason. I tried both resetting and reinstalling everything is there anything else I can do?

The Audio portion of the 30 pin slot on my iPhone 4 stopped working for no apparent reason. It neither powers on my JAM apogee and Tascam IUS interfaces or  feeds audio in and out of it. I have tried both resetting and reinstalling everything on the iPhone 4. Is there anything I can do to make the 30 pin slot to work again? The interfaces work fine on others devices and they used to work very well on the phone previously.
Thanks for any suggestions and help,

    Hi shanny202.
Really strange problem you have there. I have a few questions though.
Please try again and try to make the phone as a new without restoringen with you iCloud-data or backup-data from iTunes. Maybe it is something wrong with the data (strange).
Anyway, i think you should call Apple Support or visit an Apple Store, don't forgot to make a Genius Bar reservation.

  • AirPort Management Utility and AirPort Admin Utility

Is there a difference between AirPort Management Utility and Airport Admin Utility? I see that the Airport Management Utility has not been updated for a while while the Airport Admin Utility is more recent. Does the latter replace the former?
    Thanks!

Is there a difference between AirPort Management Utility and Airport Admin Utility?
Yes, the Management Utility gives you the ability to monitor some aspects of your Apple base station.
The AirPort Admin Utility allows you configure and control the Apple base station.
Does the latter replace the former?
    No

  • Reissue:  Connection Timed Out and Airport Admin Utility Issues

I put this post last November, but no one seemed to have a solution to it, so I thought I would try again...
Our lab has and Airport Extreme (802.11g). Intermittently (once a week to a couple of times a day) our airport extreme will stop allowing new connections. Here's what appears to happen. The airport still appears in the the list of networks in the airport icon in the menu bar (ie it still broadcasts SSID), but when I try to connect it whirls for a while and then says connection timed out. If I go to the Airport Admin Utility the base station doesn't appear there even though all of the rest of the ones on our network do (I should at this point, mention that we have both ethernet and WiFi layers on our network--the base station operates as an access point in bridge mode). The only solution is to power cycle the base station. A couple of extra tidbits.
    * Base station firmware is current at version 5.7.
    * We never have more than about 8 users connected to the base station.
    * This inability to connect is independent of what computer is trying to connect and even occurs with iPod touches.
    * This problem has occurred for a couple of years (multiple firmware versions).
    * I also have similar problems on a network at home that has the new Airport express/extreme N arrangement on a cable internet connection.
    * Sometimes this seems to fix itself after 30 minutes or so of just ignoring it. Other times it does not.
    * The restoration of the ability of the airport to accept connections after the power cycle is always immediate.
    * We only have 6-10 connections, less than the max supported.
    * The Airport usually continues to work for those computers that are connected to it before it stops allowing connections.
    So couple of questions:
    1) Do other people see this problem?
    2) Is this some problem with the WAN network connection impairing the ability of the base station to establish WiFi connection that eventually resets itself after something times our or resets?
    3) Any suggestions as to what to do about it?

Two reasons I don't think that this is likely the issue. Both are based on my assumptions about how noise would affect the working of a WAP. If these assumptions are erroneous, please let me know.
The first is that I have tried both automatic channel selection and manual channel assignment based on an unused channel that was several channels away from other WAPs. Kind of circumstantial since other devices can emit noise in the same region of the spectrum (our phones are 5.8GHz and the microwave is no where near the base station.
The second though, is that I can stand literally a foot away from the base station with my notebook or iPod touch and still have the same problem. It would seem the the noise would have to be enormous to interfere with a device that close the the base station. Also, why would the other connected devices continue to work?
In the interest of providing a complete picture, I would say I have thought quite a lot about whether noise is a problem. This base station is installed in a lab, with lots of electrical equipment whirring away and to make matters worse, the base station itself needed to be installed right next to (Within inches) a circuit breaker box. I winced when I did this.
Interestingly, the thing normally does work and the signal strength & signal to noise (reported by airport utility) and transfer rates are quite good when you can connect.
    Thanks,
    Michael

Yes, I have the exact same problem.
It's intriguing because I share the connection with my landlord who is often away. The base station is connected in his suite and we seem to never have any problem when only my wife and I are connected on it. I use a iMac 21.5" and my wife a 13" White MacBook (5.2). When he is home (about 1 week per month), that's when the connection will randomly disconnect exactly as you described. He uses a iMac 24" and occasionally an old iBook.

    Hi,
When Zeen's battery level goes below 5 %; it tends to Reset to Default where it looses all the connections and sync to the printer or router.
So its very important to make sure that Zeen's battery does not go to low. To avoid this I would suggest to charge Zeen regularly.
You may try the steps below as of now and check the results.
We need to Factory Reset the Zeen making sure it is connected (Docked) on the C510a printer.
Once it is docked try the steps below:-
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02844556&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_r1002_us...
Open the above link; and then perform the Factory Reset as shown in Solution Two.
Once completed try connecting to Wireless and check the results.

  • I have had to semi-reset and reinstall my hp6500a plus. How do I keep the same eprint email address?

I have had a network blowup and a new computer and was told to do a semi-reset and full install on my Inkjet hp6500a plus. How do I keep the same eprint email address which I have given out to a number of people? When I did the install I seem to have been re-assigned a new @hpprint address and can't find how to change it back.

    Hi,
I affraid you will not be able to use the same address.
Due to security reasons any removed ePrint address (due to Web Services removal, product reset or product replacement) is blocked for any user for 6 months period.
You may select a difference customized address by following the steps below:

  • How can I reinstall airport setup assistant & airport admin utility

It's a long story but I accidentally deleted my support software for my Airport Express (the airport setup assistant and airport admin utility).
I tried downloading the AirPort 4.1 update, but I can't install it because I am told there is a newer version already installed on my computer.
I have no idea how to get the airport express software back, aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do.

"There must be something somehwhere on the system that makes the computer think that the original software is still there."
    Hi ChezFerranti!
Yes, an installation receipt. Deleting receipts is not recommended.
It's probably best to download and install the 10.4.9 Combo Update, and that should re-insert the two missing utilities into your OS, since it wouldn't depend on seeing a receipt.
The pertinent receipt is "AirPortConfigApps.pkg" in HDD>Library>Receipts. That was the installation of the AirPort 4.2 software Update in July of 2005. It is no longer a separate item at Downloads, except for someone with a Panther OS (10.3). This means that it was folded into a later OS X Tiger Software Update, which is why the 10.4.9 Combo Update should be able to replace those utilities for you. The problem with simply deleting the receipt is that when you install a new version, then you'd get duplicate files of everything else that was part of that July 2005 AirPort 4.2 Update.
"aside from re-installing my OS, which I would rather not do"
There should be no need to do that. The 10.4.9 Combo Update should do essentially the same thing for you, W/O duplicating anything! Best of luck:)
