Resizing a window using the trackpad

Please can anyone tell me how to resize a window using the magic trackpad???????

In both 10.6 and Lion you can set the 3 finger drag function in System Preferences > trackpad.  Then you can drag the bottom right corner (or and edge in Lion) of the screen with 3 fingers.  Grabbing the top of the window with 3 fingers will move the window around.

In Finder , why i can't go back and forward using the trackpad in Mountain Lion?

Hi. I also got the same problem but just learnt a way to resolve it. No need for 3rd party software.
If you don't care much about the Three finger drag gesture, and just want to swipe between pages in Finder and web browsers, please follow these:
System Preferences/Trackpad/More gestures/Swipe between pages/Scroll left or right with 2 fingers. This option works solely for web browsers.
In order to swipe between pages in Finder, web browsers and other apps as well, change the option to Swipe with two or three fingers. (3 for Finder and apps, 2 for web pages)
If you also want to use Three-finger drag to move windows and drag-select:
The problem occurs once you change to "Swipe with 2 or three fingers", Lion will automatically disable/uncheck the Three finger drag function in Trackpad/Point&Click. Or the other way around, you tick Three Finger drag, Swipe between pages automatically switches to Scroll with two fingers because these 2 functions are overlapped.
    My solution is:
stick with initial option Scroll with two fingers for navigating between web pages.
Re-tick Three finger drag in Point&Click.
Use combination: Option+Swipe 4 fingers for Finder and other apps (although it functions reversely, Swiping left to go backward, swipe right to go forward)
    My current gesture routine:
    - Swipe between web pages: Scroll with two fingers.
    - Swipe between pages in Finder and other apps: Combination Option+swipe 4 fingers
    - Swipe between full-screen apps (desktops): Swipe left or right with 4 fingers
    - Drag select and navigate windows: Three finger drag
    - Mission Control - Swipe up with 4 fingers. (avoid conflict with three finger drag)
    * You can actually use combination Option+Swipe 4 fingers for everything (apps, finder, web pages) but I personally prefer swipe 2 fingers for web browsing. It's just easier and quicker and avoid conflicts with other gestures.
    Hope this help.

  • Using Firefox 5 in Windows 7, once I have Firefox open, I can no longer open a new window using the start button. How do I fix?

As I stated, I have Windows 7 on my laptop and have installed Firefox 5. I sometimes like to have multiple windows of the browser open. But, unlike any previous version of Firefox, now when I have the browser open, when I try to open a new window using the Start menu, it will not open one. I have to use Ctrl+N. Why did this change?
This may seem insignificant but it really hampers my work flow. For one, with other applications, Shift+N is what opens a new window. For two, I've been doing with with my browsers for years now and it's like second nature for me - having to remember that in Firefox it's Ctrl+N is a pain in my tuccus.
Firefox is my go to browser and I would like it to stay that way. Please find the solution for me! I have tried looking using Tools, Options, as well as looking at my start menu and taskbar options, and no dice.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

  • Is there a way to set my settings in the latest version of Firefox so I can still zoom using the trackpad?

I have a MacBook. In previous versions of Firefox I could zoom in or out using my trackpad. Is there a way to set my settings in the latest version of Firefox so I can still zoom using the trackpad?

Some gestures have been removed in Firefox 4.
You can restore the zoom feature by changing the values of the related prefs on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    browser.gesture.pinch.in -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReduce</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.in.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.out -> <b>cmd_fullZoomEnlarge</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.out.shift -> <b>cmd_fullZoomReset</b>
    browser.gesture.pinch.latched -> <b>false</b>
To open the <i>about:config</i> page, type <b>about:config</b> in the location (address) bar and press the "<i>Enter</i>" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.<br />
If you see a warning then you can confirm that you want to access that page.<br />

Why can't i access or click on the menu options at the top of ANY web page? Also, Can't close a moddle window using the x in the upper right,?

Problems with buttons and links at the top of the page not working can be caused by an extension like the Yahoo! Toolbar or a Babylon extension that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links and buttons in that part of the screen not clickable.

  • Do you feel a tingling sensation in your fingers when you use the trackpad?

I know it sounds like a stupid question...but recently i've been finding more and more i'm feeling a tingling sensation around my fingers when i use my trackpad. Just a few moment ago, my hand was resting on my trackpad(not something that happens often) in any event, my entire hand started to feel like it was getting an electric shock of some kind. I pulled it back real fast.
I'm just wondering has anyone else ever experienced this kind of tingling sensation when using the trackpad?
    Thanks

This is indeed noticable, at least to discerning individuals, both on the track pad and on the casing.
I usually call it 'the Roland feeling', as the metal casing of old Roland musical keyboards from this manufacturer had an extremely pronounced 'tingle' to the touch. In the case of Roland, their engineers had not properly understood the concept of grounding. They actually connected the casing via two resistors to both the power outlet phase and ground!
This made the entire case 'float' electrically at 110 V AC in Europe (half the voltage). This sounds dangerous, but it's not the voltage that kills, it's the current, and a voltage connected through a high-ohm resistor can't drive much current through your body. So, while very noticable, to the point of almost making your fingers feel numb, the Roland feeling was never a threat to the player's life.
'The PowerBook feeling' is **extremely** subtle in comparison.
What does it all mean then?
    1. The PowerBook casing has a leakage path to an AC voltage source. This leakage path has very high ohmage, and is absolutely nothing to worry about. Don't be too angry at Apple either, because leakage paths are almost impossible to avoid, and it's only the cool aluminium package that makes you notice it. You wouldn't want to trade it for plastic, right?
    2. Human fingertips are actually extremely sensitive to electric current! Who would have thunk?
Unplug the power brick, and you'll see that this effect is gone, as the voltage must be AC. A DC voltage of high ohmage will quickly level itself out.

  • Can I stop the Finder icons from changing size while I use the Trackpad?

    Very frustrating:
Often when I touch my trackpad and I'm in finder the icons/folders get very small! Have to go back to "Finder" then "View" amd "show view options" to reset them to 48x48.
Is there a way to lock the change of their sizes (but still use the trackpad for touch sensitive stuff)?

System Preferences>Trackpad. Uncheck Pinch to Open and Close.

  • Tap to drag select by whole words using the Trackpad!

I figured out that there is an easy way to drag select by whole words using the Trackpad... just put your mouse over the word you want to start the selection from and ...
    tap, pause, tap, tap
... or another way to say it might be ...
    tap, double tap
I find this method almost 100% reliable, it's effortless to get the timing right.
Being able to do this now removes the only thing that I've missed about a mouse since switching to the trackpad.
    Yay!

On the trackpad, after double tapping to select a word, you cannot drag to continue selecting more words. And if you triple tap, it selects the entire paragraph. If you double tap to select a word, pause and tap-drag, the selection doesn't change with your dragging. If you double tap to select a word, pause, and double-tap-drag, it starts a drag/drop operation using the original selection.
The method I described allows you to accomplish with a trackpad, the operation that mouse users take for granted - double click/drag to select a word and drag to select more words.
As far as I know, the technique I posted at the top is not widely known. At least I didn't turn up anything with my google searching and have used this trackpad for almost a year without knowing about this trick.
FYI - my trackpad "Point & Click" settings are:
    tap to click
secondary click is tap with two fingers
    3 finger drag disabled

  • I have a macbook and I use the trackpad to zoom in some windows. On the new version of firefox, this option appears to be disabled. How can I enable it again? thanks

the option is called "pinch open and close".

When you try to use the Mac side on your external monitor do you get a blank screen or do you see the aurora background?
It would help to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.

  • Organizer 12 - how to: zoom over 100%, use the Trackpad, compare images?

    English Version below.
Hallo zusammen.
    English Version
Hi there. I switched from Apple Aperture to PSE 12. Now I have my 11500 photos in the Organizer and a few teething problems.
I have specified in the preferences that you can resize photos to over 100%. This does not work. Photos are always fitted only in the window when the zoom lever is all the way to the right.
Only in the full-screen view you can scale over 100%. However, this also works if I have not set the setting in the preferences.
How do I compare multiple images? The manual describes to select from the View menu -> Compare images. This menu item does not exist for me. (German Version)
Also by pressing F12, nothing happens. Can I re-assign the button functions somewhere?
Last but not least: How can I use the zoom & pinch from the Magic Trackpad? I 'm missing that very much. Aperture was very user friendly with that.

You cannot zoom in on an more that fitting the screen space will looking at images in the Organizer's image well. This size may be much smaller than 100%.
There is no preference to "resize photos to over 100%".
There is also not a Compare option in the View menu.
To do either of these options (from the Organizer) you have to be in the Full Screen mode. From here, you can use the mouse wheel (or trackpad) to zoom up to 1600%. You can also compare images by selecting the Side-by-Side or Top/Bottom display from the "View" Options button on the Full Screen options bar.
To use the F-keys, you have to add the Command key, so Command+F12 will open the Full Screen Mode in side-by-side compare view.
If you purchased Photoshop Elements as a replacement for Aperture, there are a lot of differences that you will have to adjust to. Photoshop Elements and Aperture are hardly complementary applications. If you were looking for something like Aperture, you should try Lightroom instead.

  • HOW DO YOU REVEAL THE WHOLE OF THE DESKTOP PHOTO USING THE TRACKPAD?

When I swipe the trackpad to show the current windows open - i.e 3 Safari windows, sometimes when I swipe to return to the original page all the windows disappear and you can only see the complete dektop picture - o folders or icons form the desktop but ONLY the picture, I have tried playing around with the trackpad as I would like to know how I did it, I have looked through the preferences etc and can't see it, the ony time I seem to do it is when I'm not thinking about it!!
    Thanks
    Jimmy

    Jimmy,
It took a little while before I discovered the trick, so follow these instructions. (I use a Magic Trackpad on my iMac and a similar shortcut with the MBP.)
    1. Let's suppose you have Safari open. Use a three-fingered gesture, swiping in the upward direction, so you can see your Dashboard, Desktop, and whatever other programs that are open.
    2. Move your cursor the upper right hand side of the screen, and a large "+" will appear. That's the way you can add more virtual desktops.
    3. Select the "+", then select a field that should have a name like "Desktop 2." When you click on this small field, it will occupy the entire screen. The Dashboard and Safari display won't be visible, even though they're both active.
    4. If you want to delete "Desktop 2", use the three-finger swipe-up, and select "Desktop 2"; when you pur your cursor on this small virtual desktop, you'll see a circled "x" in the upper left corner. Choose it, and virtual desktop 2 will disppear.
Play around with the feature to make it your own.
Post in this forum if you found this useful, or if you have other questions!

  • Scrambled display when I use the trackpad to scroll up and down in Safari

Whenever I use two fingers to scroll up and down in Safari, the display gets scrambled. It gets worse, the faster I scroll. The nature of the distortion is that sections of the display are duplicated horizontally which "covers up" the section where the duplication takes place. This does not happen when I scroll up and down using the arrow keys, or if I scroll with the arrows on the right side of the browser window.
Another thing I have noticed is that some videos I watch online have intermittent white sections flashing in.

It is certain that some people are having problems, all I can confirm is that my 2.0GHz MacBook does not seem to have this problem.
However, after having looked at this thread and another link it seems that a lot of the posts about problems are coming from users of the MacBook Pros and the 2.4GHz MacBooks. Thus, this makes me wonder if the CPU speed might have something to do with this issue. Along with the CPU another issue might be heat (which would seem to be a greater concern with both the MacBook Pro and the 2.4GHz MacBook) and whether the affected systems are equipped with more than 2GB DRAM and whether than DRAM is third-party or from Apple (i.e. these problems could be caused by issues with the DRAM).
Of course, no one can yet say where the problems may be but system "overheating" and/or DRAM could be involved. When I write "overheating" I'm not suggesting user abuse, just that this may be a temperature sensitive issue.
For the record my MacBook has all of the latest firmware, trackpad, and system updates and is the standard 2.0GHz model with Apple-issued 2GB DRAM and 160GB HD. Below is my hardware overview from Apple's System Profiler:

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
I think that something was damaged when you upgraded OS X. This can happen, and it looks like it happened to you. In your case, I recommend you to make a backup and reinstall Mountain Lion erasing the disk:
    1. Press Command and R keys while your Mac is starting, and open Disk Utility.
    2. Select Macintosh HD in the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    3. Close Disk Utility and reinstall OS X. After installing OS X, restore your files manually and reinstall the applications
If this doesn't work, you can install Snow Leopard again:
    1. Insert the Snow Leopard disc and press C key while your Mac is starting.
    2. When the disc has started, open Utilities menu > Disk Utility, select the hard disk at the top of the sidebar, go to Erase tab and erase the disk.
    3. Close Disk Utility and install Mac OS X. After installing, open  > Software Update to install the most recent version

  • Can't Log in to Windows using the fingerprint scanner.

    Hi,
I've had my HP ENVY MJ-j120dx Coe i7 (Windows 8.1 64-bit), product number E8A11UA#ABA for about a year now, and I did a full system wipe using the recovery software that was built in.  Before the wipe the fingerprint scanner worked perfectly, however after the wipe the built-in fingerprint scanner no longer works for me to log-in to windows.  The device is listed in the manager and is functioning fine.  I can use it to scan my fingerprint and register it in the Accounts tab of PC settings.  However it does not work to unlock windows.  I don't have the message about fingerprint sign-in has been disabled or anything.  And I can use it with HP Simple Pass and it works fine, the light to the left of the scanner lights up.  But when I try to sign-in to windows it doesn't light up at all or register that I'm swiping my finger acrossed it.   Any suggestions to a solution?

Load the default settings in the BIOS, shut down the notebook and then restart it and go back into the BIOS to ensure that the Biometric sensor (fingerprint scanner) has been ebabled.
