Resizing an open Dialog as it's content's change

Using the sharepoint dialog framework,  Is it possible to resize a dialog that is open when it's content changes?
The issue we currently have, is we have many layout pages we designed to open in a dialog that use our Custom Master Page.  When sharepoint open's them in a dialog and their content changes (like when a validation summary adds some error messages when
you click OK on the dialog without entering in the required information) the dialog grows in height but the window stays the same size.
Ideally, I don't want to open the dialogs maximized, or to a fixed size.  I want to use autoSize but I want to resize the dialog window when the content's change.  I've googled this many times and haven't found anything that works.  It would
be nice if there was method like "window.frameElement.autoSize()" I could call to resize the dialog.
I did notice the OOTB Dialog.Master page has a ton of javascript on it, and a method called onResize, not sure what that is for.  Should we be using dialog.master as the master page for our dialog pages instead of
using our site master page?
My Blog: http://www.thesug.org/Blogs/ryan_mann1/default.aspx Website: Under Construction

I ended up making a custom dialog page from a copy of dialog.master.  I gutted out about 90 percent of it, then created one table with a centered 100% width/height layout.
The end result is the Main Content placeholder center's it's contents on the dialog window.  And because there is always white space around the actual dialog content, simply made everything inherit the same background color with css.  On top of
that I change all of our dialog calls to send a width and height.  I calculated the max height/width needed for each of the dialogs, then changed the call to that dialog to use that width and height.
Not the ideal solution, but it works ok, and doesn't look to bad.
I did reverse engineer the dialog page a bit, and the dialog.master and I came up with all the div's and iframes I would need to resize and reposition, but it's some pretty complex logic, so I put it off for now.

I would like to use the windows explorer open dialog box instead of the adobe open dialog box. How can I change that?

The top screenshot is the Windows Open dialog box. All File > Open... commands in all Windows programs bring it up.   Try File > Open in Notepad for example.
It belongs to Windows not Adobe. You cannot change this because there is no such thing as an Adobe Open dialog box.
The bottom screenshot is Windows Explorer. It is Windows' OS File Browser, not an Open dialog.  It is not called up by Photoshop or any Windows program.
You have to click on "My Computer" or a Folder icon to get to it. You can double-click a psd, jpeg or other image file in the Explorer window so that it opens in Photoshop.
There is Adobe Bridge and Minibridge   Alt + Ctrl + O or File > Browse in Bridge

  • Thumbnails in "OPEN" dialog box too small to see!

The thumbnails are  too small in the open dialog box so that I can't see the file I want to open.  Yes, you can make them bigger in finder itself...but I am always opening pictures and I just can't see them!
Almost as frustrating as the column issue.   The name column is very very wide when I try to open a file.. so I can't sort by the other columns without dragging over the bar at the bottom of the screen.  THis is so so frustrating.  I resize but it doesn't stick to the next session.
Apple invented the finder.  Why is it so inferior to windows explorer?

The only solution to enlarging the icons in an application open dialog window is to use the Accessibility panel in System Preferences. Under Zoom, enable Use keyboard shortcuts to zoom.
The first time you have an application open dialog, you press the keys: option + command + =  as many times as you want to zoom in. This will enlarge the open dialog window and its contents. When done, press option + command + 8 to restore normal window size. Subsequently, you can alternatively press option + command + 8 to zoom to the previous setting, or return to normal zoom.
This is as good as it is going to get. The applications (not just Apple’s) only use a subset of Finder’s settings in the open dialogs, and these do not include icon enlargement settings, which as you realize, are part of the actual Finder’s settings. The application development frameworks, and not Finder, are remiss in not providing icon size adjustments in open dialog windows.
You can provide feedback to Apple regarding OS X.

  • Resize windows and manage files in save/open dialogs?

    1. How to resize windows by dragging any border or corner?
    2. How to manage files via a Save/SaveAs or Open dialog (rename, delete, copy other files, etc...)?
My search on these two things only comes up with comparisons and debates about Win vs Mac. Not relevant to the questions! I already run Win XP in Fusion when I have to for work. I don't want to run Windows; I just want to eliminate a couple Mac shortcomings since Apple hasn't. Yet. Maybe it has to do with patents...
Anyway, does anybody know of a utility or other way to enable these functions in Mac OS 10? (I've tried Pathfinder; it doesn't quite do the trick.)

I believe you will find a couple of third-party utilities that provide some enhancements for windows. As for file dialogs I can only recommend Default Folder X. You will find these at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

  • File Open Dialog Box  on Button Click

    Hi
I am devloping some webpages using JSF and RichFaces..
I would like to appear File open Dialog box to choose single file and multiple files and another Folder chooser dialog box to choose the folder content..
Both the operation should be performed while choosing the Button Choose File and Choose Folder...
I have already tried Input type = file and aphace tomohawk..
But i all the components are coming with text box and browse button..
I dont need that. I need to open the dialog box once i clilck my choose file r folder button and it should work browser indepent.....

HTML doesn't provide you the possibility to select multiple files or select folders at a single browse. Thus JSF can't do any much for you. Best what you can do is to write a signed applet or web start application which does the task. The Mojarra Scales component library has a ready-to-use component which embeds an applet which does that task. Check [https://scales.dev.java.net/multiFileUpload.html].

  • Small Icon sizes in Open Dialog Box

When I upgraded from Snow Leapard to Lion I was very impressed that the icon sizes in the File->Open dialog boxes varied in size (per folder) on how you viewed them in Finder. For example, I would set my Finder Pictures folders and contents to a larger icon size to see them easier, then when I would open Photoshop and use the File->Open menu option, the icons would be the same size as how I viewed them in Finder.  It was beneficial to have a larger icon to view pictures when I would use File-> Open in Photoshop to select a photo. Since I have upgraded to Mountain Lion, it seems this feature has gone away?? It went back to the way it was with Snow Leapard. All icons are really small no matter how you view them in Finder.
Is there a way to change the icon sizes in the Open/Save dialog boxes to be larger in Mountain Lion? Possibly using the command prompt? Please help?!

I've used the Quicklook to get a larger image, but it's still not as convenient as it used to be with Lion. I'm confused on why the change was made to go back to small icons as a default?  When using Lion, you could have the icon size whatever you wanted.

  • Spotlight in "Open Dialog" fail to find "Numbers" file

    Hi,
when i use the spotlight search tool inside the open dialog box from Numbers it seem to be unable to find "Numbers file".
Let say I have 4 files on my Hard Drive :
    - FileName1.xls
    - FileName1.Numbers
    - FileName2.xls
    - FileName2.Numbers
If I type "FileName" in Finder > Spotlight It get all the 4 files.
If I type "FileName" in Numbers > Open Dialog > Spotlight it get :
    - FileName1.xls
    - FileName2.xls
Either I check or not different search options (filename / content / Start / My iMac ...)
    Any idea what's wrong ?
    Thank you.

    Bonjour,
    Concernant votre dernier message :

  • IPhoto Library in open dialog boxes

Does the Mac community agree with me that this needs to be better implemented in Mac OS X for new Mac users?
As the owner of a Mac consulting company in Los Angeles, we have switched about 30 people from PC to Mac this year.
However, we have encountered a big problem that almost every "newbie Mac user" has when they first switch to the Mac. This is the #1 problem that we encounter with most "newbie" Mac users:
There is no way to access the iPhoto library from within a standard open dialog box!
So, week after week, we're witnessing users who have used webmail for years, and aren't quite ready to make the leap to Apple Mail yet. So when they go to attach photos to an outgoing email in their webmail program (Hotmail, Gmail, Yahoo), they'll get an "open" dialog box but absolutely no way of browsing their iPhoto Library in an easy-to-use manner!
Oh sure, they'll try to click around in their "Pictures" folder inside the "iPhoto Library" folder, but as you know, that folder makes no organizational sense to mere mortals, and is nowhere NEAR the Mac experience that it should be! Even with the improvements in iPhoto 6, that "iPhoto Library" folder still makes no sense.
So eventually, we tell them that they have to (a) drag their photos from iPhoto onto their desktop or export them if they want them to be a smaller size, (b) attach the files on their desktop from within their open dialog box, and (c) trash the photos from their desktop afterwards.
But this is too confusing for new Mac users, particularly when it's already much better integrated on Windows, the platform they just switched from!
New users should be able to **VISUALLY BROWSE** their iPhoto Library right from within any open dialog box, just like you can currently browse your iPhoto Library when you click on the "Media" button inside Pages or Keynote or iWeb or Comic Life.
Some companies like Snapfish.com have actually addressed this limitation on Apple's behalf, by creating plug-ins for Safari that actually let you browse your iphoto library right from your open dialog box! This is how it SHOULD BE! It's simple as pie, and Snapfish.com should be commended for making up for this serious lack of intuitiveness on Apple's part.
But Apple really needs to step up to the plate and do this for its users, instead of depending on a few companies here & there to make up for this limitation.
Of course, we try to get as many new users as possible to use Apple's Mail program for complete integration with their system, but it's just not feasible right off the bat in all cases. For example, if they're a Yahoo webmail user or a HotMail user, it would cost them at least $24.95/year just to get POP access to their email. And regardless of what webmail system they use, not everybody is going to want to switch right away to a dedicated email client.
Apple really needs to help new users have a great time when switching to the Mac, instead of confusing them, by really thinking these things through and really WATCHING new users in the field struggling with their Macs for the first time. Then, Apple can see that there's little things like this that can make all the difference for someone new to the Mac.
    Thank you,

I've not used any of these but you can certainly test them so see if they are as as advertised.
If a user needs a file via the Finder for a web based email he can Command-click on a thumbnail and select the Show File Contextual menu item. The user will be taken to that folder in the Finder and the file will already be selected. However these will be the full sized files and may be larger than the user wants to send.
The problem with encouraging users to visually browse and access files in the library folder via the Finder or some browser is that they may be inclined to rename, move or edit them via the Finder or browser an that is committing the cardinal sin of iPhoto: Don't tamper with files in the iPhoto Library folder from the Finder. So for a novice it's safer to have them export the file to the desktop via the File->Export->File Export menu route, resizing as necessary in the process.

  • RoboHelp 8 Freezes When Trying to Use Any Open Dialog

The title pretty well says it all. RoboHelp freezes when I try to use Open... from the Starter screen or File>Open or any other control that accesses the open dialog (i.e., the open/explore button on the Content Settings tab in the FrameMaker Document Settings dialog). I have to end the process in the Task Manager and restart RoboHelp. (Fortunately, the Recent Projects links work – except for Open..., of course.)
I discovered this when I had to restore links to moved FrameMaker documents. My installation is TCS2 running on Windows 7 32-bit; all updates to all TCS2 components and Windows 7 have been installed.
I tried an in-place reinstall of RoboHelp, but that didn't make any difference.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,

Hi John and welcome to the RH community.
I'd check that you have both of the 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 updates installed. Also ensure your RH source files are not located on a network drive. Bare in mind that whilst some users manage to run RH under Windows 7, others have reported problems. You should also note that Windows 7 is not an officially supported platform for RH usage.

  • Open dialog "support" part do not show iTunes/iPhoto

    Hello.
Impossible to find this anywhere on internet
I reinstalled Lion on my computer, then I reimported from TimeMachine (within the installation) only a small part of my user folder. Mostly all preferences and settings, but not the datas because it was too long.
Later then, I entered in TimeMachine and restored all the folders contents, Pictures, Movies, etc... (not the folders themselves but the content of each, one folder at a time).
Now, inside the Open dialog of applications, inside Images I have PhotoBooth, but no iPhoto, and in Music nothing (missing iTunes), and in Movies, only photobooth too.
I think it's because I did not restored that at the beginning but now it should fint them, they works fine !
I tried to create new libraries of iPhoto and iTunes but it's the same
    Any ideas ?
    (10.7.3)

    Kim,
This may or may not be relevant but when I log into my icloud account online to check the account there is no icon showing for the Photo Stream.
That should not matter - I do not see my PhotoStream in iCloud either, but it is working fine.
    Some things to check:
Does your iPhone actually send the photos to the Photo Stream? It will only push the photos to the stream, if it is connected to a WiFi and if it is charged.
Your Mac will download only the newest photos from iCloud. If your iPhone pushed the last photo to iCloud a month ago, you will not see any photos in Photo Stream.
Can a firewall be blocking your PhotoStream? If you are using LittleSnitch, it might be blocking the PhotoStreamagent.
You can check, if actually photos have been downloaded from the PhotoStream to your mac, by looking into your User Library:
         ~/Library/Application Support/iLifeAssetManagement/assets/
The folder above will hold all photos currently downloaded from the PhotoStreams. To browse it, select the line above, ctrl-click it, and select Services > Reveal from the pop-up menu.
If you are sure, that your iPhone is sending photos to the stream, but they do not appear on your mac, clear the caches of the PhotoStream agent: Trash the the contents of this folder:
         ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.photostream-agent/
    Then reboot.

  • File open dialog to just get the user selected file name

    Hi,
I am working on asynchronous file storage to KPRO through my ABAP WD application. For this asynchronous upload
operation, I just need the file name and file path(not the content). The KPRO servers could be made to use SAPFTP, SAPHTTP in the background to upload documents (triggered via tRFC's).
Is it possible to have a file open dialog (similar to java file open) which just returns the file path and file name instead of the
content? Current fileUpload UI element also loads the content which is not desired behaviour for me (because could be a performance problem with large documents uploading).
Is it possible to select multiple filenames? Thomas Jung's Flash island multiple upload works, but not in my
asynchronous scenario. Because flex fileReferenceList + upload operation works synchronously.

You must remember the START-OF-SELECTION event here,  after you select the file name and click F8, the START-OF-SELECTION event is triggered, but if it is not there, nothing will happen.

  • Open Dialog double-clicking problems.

    Here's a head-scratcher...
Recently in almost any Open Dialog box, when I double-click a folder on my server it will turn the arrow down and list the contents rather than opening that directory. Then when I save, it doesn't save it in the intended directory. Strange. I can't seem to figure out why.
The real strange part is that it happens in all my non-Apple applications only (e.g. illustrator, bbedit, Word), but Apple apps behave normally (e.g. Preview, Safari). Also, it ONLY occurs when I try to access folders on my server (Linux using Clark Connect) where my HD and external HD behave perfectly fine.
The other strange thing is I've tried this on another mac on the network and my PowerBook, but, surprise, it all works fine on those machines -- so it's just my G5. I tried trashing finder pref but no joy.
I can work around this by doing a lot of command-downarrow's in those dialog boxes, but I'd prefer to have it the way it was
Can anyone shed some light on this strange phenomenon? I can't find any threads anywhere that has this same problem. Thanks in advance.
    G5 Tower Dual 2.5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Huh.
I've recently started having the same mysterious annoyance. Except the afflicted folders are on an external (firewire) drive, not a server...
Similarly, it's not occurring with Apple apps, as far as I know.
What's perhaps oddest of all, some folders on this volume are functioning normally, while others aren't.
I had been using Default Folder X, but this happens even when that's disabled, erased, freshly installed, etc. In certain apps, clicking on the current folder name in the open/save dialog initiates a crash (seems related to the interface itself).
I've repaired the disk, permissions, trashed all related preferences, etc. Everything checked out okay.
One final clue, perhaps related or not: I've been finding duplicated folder names nested in the 'Volumes' path subordinate to my primary disk. These are probably supposed to be hidden. But I haven't deleted or otherwise tinkered with them. They do not contain the identical items of the 'real' volume (much fewer folders, documents, etc.) but there they are, acting somewhat like imposters.
Like ookla says, a head-scratcher. I'm gonna upgrade to latest flava of OS and see if it helps; I'll let y'all know.
    Good luck!

  • Search field in Open dialog will not find pages documents but will find identical Microsoft word documents

This is a new one. Problem seen on iMac and Mac Pro.
    1) Create a new Pages document (newest version).
    2) Save to the Desktop
    3) Export as MS Word document with the same identical name
    4) Close the Pages documents
    5) Quit Pages
    6) Open Pages
    7) Choose File : Open
    8) In the search field in the upper right corner of Open dialog. Enter the name of the document just saved.
    9) Only the MS Word document is listed. the Pages document is not shown, even when Filename contains is selected
If anyone knows how to fix this problem. please comment on this request.
    thanks

thanks for testing. I do realize that the two test files will show up in the Open dialog as it opens to the Desktop folder. But what happens if it opens up in another folder and you need to locate a Pages file where you don't know the location, you remember the name. You would go to the search field in the upper right corner of the Open dialog and enter the name. In the Open dialog, the name would be listed and you can choose the one to open. In my tests, the search field would only show the MS Word document, not the Pages i.e. only one would be listed not two. Also, Filenames is an option that does appear in the search field in the Pages Open dialog.
The examples files I created are called "This is a test". The content of the file is "This is a test" (without the quotes in both). the search field in the Open dialog is suppose to locate the text in the documents if enclosed in quotes which it does for the Word document but still will not find the pages document. You can click Filenames while entering in the search field and the same occurs, only locates the Word doc, not the Pages doc.
    thanks again

When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
In the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the crashed process. The report name starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report — they're very long and not helpful.
