Eclipse to Jdeveloper

Hi -
JDeveloper has been adopted in the company, so I'm moving from Eclipse. My biggest stumbling block so far is the application view. Apart from src/ and bin/ folders, I have a few directories that make logical sense to my application. Oviously, there is currently no jws file, so after importing the project from subversion, JDeveloper simply does not display it as an application.
Is there a way of simply managing an application in a physical directory structure, or failing that, 'teaching' JDeveloper about an application. If not, what are the benefits of me using a new JDeveloper friendly file system that introduces a level of abstraction over the application structure I already understand?
Cheers!

Hi,
you can create an empty Application with an empty project in JDeveloper. The concept of Workspace is just a container around projects that belong to an application. I agree that if you have a generic project that is used in many of your applications this seems to be sub-optimal. However, an enhancement request is filed to evaluate the possibility to support projects independent of workspace. Until then you need to have the workspace and project to then check your stuff into

  • Eclipse and JDeveloper

    Somebody knows what is the purpose of eclipse with jdevelper? Do I need to install eclipse? I cant find the version that the guide is talking about eclipse SDK 3.0 from the eclipse web site - anyone knows where i can get this?

    Parrwez,
    If you have the latest JDeveloper (10.1.3.1 or 10.1.3.2), it already has support for editing BPEL services. You need not install Eclipse.

  • Java Project migration from Eclipse (3.2+) to JDeveloper (11.x)

    I want to import/modify an Eclipse's java project into JDeveloper and use it. I see that there are some fundamental differences between the Eclipse and JDeveloper projects. Some of the differences like plugin.xml vs extension.xml, non-existance of .classpath and etc... makes it little difficult to take a Eclipse's java project and import it in to the JDeveloper to make it work. I am hoping that there is a mapping between the Eclipse's plugin.xml, JDeveloper's extension.xml, so that project migration is easier among these.
    Of course i have limited knowledge of JDeveloper, so would like to get some expert's opinion on this. Any automatic plugin or any sorts of tips or advise is appreciated.

    When i import the source code and try to compile i get huge number of compilation errors as below. Below are only few examples. I have set the external libraries and jars for all the related projects. Any idea or pointers why the code with Generics has problem.

  • Migrating from Eclipse/Ant/MyFaces Trinidad to using JDeveloper--need help

    I recently downloaded JDeveloper 11.1.1.2.0. Several years ago, I used JDev to do some very simple JSP/servlet development with no formal framework. Times have changed a lot.
    For the past few years, I have been developing server-side Java web apps using Eclipse JEE and Ant (ie, everything is set up so that the developer does not depend on the IDE). We currently implement web apps using Apache MyFaces Trinidad JSF components (but not Facelets). Any developer here can check out our code and simply run Ant to build the projects--no need to even have Eclipse installed. Anyone here can build and develop with a text editor and Ant, if they prefer.
    I am impressed and yet overwhelmed by the robust functionality of the latest JDev--so impressive, but I feel almost a bit too removed from "seeing" what is going on in the code and deployment. I like the notion of drag-and-drop along with wizards, but I want to also know how the JDev project is set up manually; ie, where everything goes, without having to guess on this. I get the impression that I need to learn, very specifically, the framework of ADF. But unfortunately, the tutorials seem to focus on only using the wizards and drag-drop functionality.
    For example, how do I set up JDev to build a project only by running Ant using my properties files and build.xml? This is trivial to do in Eclipse by specifying the Project Builder. Is there some similar setting I can use in JDev?
    Is there full compatibility with Trinidad--didn't Oracle make the original Trinidad?
    Has anyone posted advice on migrating from Eclipse JEE to JDev?
    Sorry if this is an old set of questions; if I had known where to search for this information, I would not be posting this thread.
    Many thanks!
    Mike Quentel

    The basic steps for bringing your existing code into JDeveloper are:
    Import->WAR File - or alternatively create a new application and in it create a new projects->project from existing source
    The next couple of steps have to do with setting the project properties:
    Then you need to set up your project content path (specifically things like Web content and resources content)
    Then you need to add the jars/libraries in your project classpath and libraries.

  • Which IDE is better Jdev or Eclipse for BPEL

    compare with ecplise netbeans is best it have
    1) xml gui tool, verification and validation
    2) no need to create web.xml
    3) debug also easy and user friendly.Eclipse also offers this.
    After all, just install them both and try them both out. If you want my opinion: Eclipse Europa for Java EE or IntelliJ IDEA.

    I guess thats Eclipse, not JDeveloper.

  • JDeveloper doing simple things - how to

    Just a couple of simple things that I can't seem to do in JDeveloper 11.1.1.6.0
    I have to use that version for OIM so please don't tell me to use 11.1.2.0.0 !!
    How do I simply see my folders? There is no option in View for a simple folder view - I have Application Navigator and that's pretty much it. I just want to see if my project has recognized the folders I am supposed to have in my project, but there is no way to do that. I also tried messing with all of the "Navigator Display Options" and "Working Sets" options. Still nothing. I took a project someone sent me and dropped it into the application folder, and then opened the project. It found the single source file but none of the folders show up anywhere.
    Second thing - if I create a folder external to the project and drop it into the project folder structure - why does "refresh" not pick it up?
    Eclipse Project Explorer == JDeveloper Application Navigator
    Eclipse Navigator == JDeveloper ??

    Eclipse Navigator <> JDeveloper Navigator
    JDev doesn't have a "file" navigator. We figure the OS usually provides a good one of those. :-)
    Here are some tips:
    1) Toggling some options in the Navigator Display Options will get you close (but it's still not a file navigator:
    * Group by Directory (checked)
    * Sort By Type (unchecked)
    * Package Level (unlimited)
    * Web Content Level (unlimited)
    * Show Libraries (unchecked)
    * Group by Categories (unchecked)
    * Group Related Files (unchecked)
    2) By selecting a node in the Application Navigator, you can choose Edit > Copy Path, which puts the os path to the node on your clipboard. You can now paste this into Windows Explorer (or similar for your os) to use the OS navigator. Optionally, you can use "Tools > External tools" to easily add a button or menu item to open a navigator node in the OS navigator.
    3) The main thing to recognize is that the contents of the project as shown in the navigator is governed by the project source paths (in Project Properties). If you added a folder to a project folder and it's not showing up after a refresh, it's probably not under the project source path after all. Or, it's possible that you have added a working set which is hiding the contents.

  • Future of JDeveloper

    With recent announcement of Oracle's increased involvement in the Eclipse community I have a concern with respect to the future of JDeveloper. Oracle has said that JDeveloper will continue to be their strategic IDE which is heartening. I am just wondering if this decision signals a slow beginning of the retirement of JDeveloper

    I thought we made it clear in every communication we did about the Eclipse interaction - JDeveloper is out strategic IDE.
    We are hard at work on release 11. The number of Oracle employees who are developing features for JDeveloper is way bigger then the number who develop for eclipse.
    And the number of people at Oracle who are about to start using JDeveloper 11 to build the Fusion Applications is even bigger.
    JDeveloper is here to stay.

  • The Jdeveloper 10g is free?

    It is better then Eclipse?

    JDeveloper is free for evaluation and learning. If you are going to use it to build production system you have to license it - $999.
    Or you can get it for free if you buy the Oracle Application Server.
    Is it better than Eclipse? - well try to run through the JDeveloper reviewer guide here and see the different approach it offers for Java development.

  • How to create Sequence Diagrams in Jdev 10.1.3?

    Hi there,
    I´m migrating (trying) from Eclipse to JDeveloper and I´m having several dificulties....
    I´m creating a new project in JDeveloper:
    0) create an application workspace [ok]
    1) create a web application project [ok]
    2) create some packages and Java classes [ok]
    3) create a class diagram related to the
    above classes [ok]
    4) create a sequence diagram [ok]
    5) use the classes into the sequence
    diagram [more and less]
    6) use the methods of the classes into
    the message lines of the sequence
    diagram [no]
    Some observations that are messing me:
    1) Do I need to create an "Object Lifetime" for
    every class and after that select "Attach Classifier" ?? Why I can´t just drag the classes into the diagram (like Jude) ?
    2) Can I use the methods already defined in the classes to create messages in the sequence diagram?
    3) The sequence diagram od JDeveloper is disconnected from the project classes? i.e., is it just a draw ?
    best regards,
    Felipe Gaúcho

    Hi,
    I am glad to find that you are working on the sequence diagram. I take your point about selecting the methods and assigning them to the messages. Unfortunately this feature is gated by some architecture changes and it something I will be actively pursuing as soon as it is possible.
    In reply to your other points:
    1) Do I need to create an "Object Lifetime" for
    every class and after that select "Attach Classifier" ?? > Why I can´t just drag the classes into the diagram (like > Jude) ?The reason for this is that the sequence modeler is simply a view onto a single diagram type that can contain any object. This allows the mingling of different UML type on the same diagram. It can be usefull to mix usecase and seqeunce for example.
    For that reason the default action for java class is to model a java class, and you do indeed need to create a lifeline first. Did you know you could drag and drop the classifier, in your case a java class, from the navigator onto the lifeline. This might be quicker in your case.
    2) Can I use the methods already defined in the classes > to create messages in the sequence diagram?As noted before in the preview you can't select existing messages. This is something we would like to add as soon as it is possible.
    3) The sequence diagram od JDeveloper is disconnected
    from the project classes? i.e., is it just a draw ?The sequence modeler isn't totally disconnected from the project classes; but it wont update as you edit the code if this is what you mean.
    Could you perhaps expand on this point a little bit?
    Thanks,
    Gerard Davison

  • WebService generation from existing WSDL file :(

    Hello,
    I have just tried to create a WebService from an existing WSDL (which has been developed and validated with Eclipse) with JDeveloper and got the follwing stack trace. I do not think, that this error message is very usefull, because I can't see the point where it referes to my WSDL document. By the way, the Eclipse validation went through without having any trouble.
    Here are my JDeveloper coordinates to give you the chance to follow up:

    - Build JDEVADF_11.1.1.1.0_GENERIC_090615.0017.5407
    Running JDeveloper in MacOSX:
    - Version 10.5.8
    - Build 9L31a

  • How do I install the "ojdbc14.jar" driver?

    Hi...
    I want to start with JDBC APIs. I have downloaded the Oracle driver "ojdbc14.jar". I don't know where to keep this driver and what all settings need to be done.
    Can any one help?
    Thanks...

    Are you by any chance new to Java?
    If not, then where you put the jar depends on the type of application you are building.
    For example, I build a lot of web applications which are deployed as WAR files to an app server. In this case, I usually put the ojdbc.jar in the WEB-INF/lib. You can also put the jar in common/lib of the app server so that all apps have access to it.
    Use of the system environment variable CLASSPATH is not used so much anymore with recent JDKs.
    If you are new to Java then I recommend choosing a decent IDE (Eclipse/NetBeans/JDeveloper are the main free ones) and going through the Java tutorial. It has a section on using JDBC.
    Hope that helps,
    Rakesh

  • How to integrate the Data modeler in Sql developer

    Hi
    How can we integrate the data modeler into sql developer and use the data modeler?
    Thanks

    Integrating different oracle products (SQL Developer [Data Modeller], JDeveloper, ...) on platforms like Eclipse, Netbeans, JDeveloper Framework is a really missing feature.
    JDeveloper has a good approach for integrated Java and database development, but has not immediate benefits from from other development streams like SQL Developer.
    On daily work we must use more than three different tools for most common task
    - editing stored functions, procedures and packages with SQL-Developer (code formatter in Jdeveloper produces sometimes UNREADABLE code ( So we are using TOAD instead ). Why can't Jdeveloper use SQL-Developer formatting tools in bug fixed verrions from 1.5.5?
    - database modelling with SQL Developer Data Modeler without PLSQL package support ???
    - database development with JDeveloper, ADF and offline database model without capabilities for logical databse models
    Please put them all together!

  • JDev 11.1.1.3.0 and Java: how to generate toString()

    Hi,
    is there a way to generate the toString() method for a class (like JUtils in Eclipse) in JDeveloper ?
    Thanks

    If you've never written an extension before, it might be a bit challenging. You would use Help->Check for Updates and download the JDeveloper Extension SDK and understand how to write extensions, then do it ;)
