Responsive HTML email help needed

Hi everyone,
first things first, Im a graphic Designer by trade, so some of my questions might be really simple and my method of working might be terrible...
that being said, here is my question. Im in the middle of revamping the company I work for's emails and have decided that since im doing the work, I want to make them responsive to screen size etc.
However, I create them in Indesgn, slice the PDF to Photoshop, then add the linking and text elements in dreamweaver... This has worked perfectly for me in the past but now when I try to add any code or CSS that I find that should in theory help me with my problems I just cant seem to get my designs to fir to screen...
Can anyone out their help me?
Like I said, im really not a pro at this and am working at it from a visual designers point of view...
Thanks
Chris

I'm really sorry to say it and, in the interest of saving you time and headaches, I'm not going to sugar-coat it...
Pretty much everything you're doing is "the worst possible way to do it" when it comes to html email.
I'm thinking the best plan of attack for you would be to find and use a template available from services like www.constantcontact.com or www.icontact.com so you can just drop imagery and text into pre-built "will work in a large number of email clients" documents.
If you do want to learn to code html emails, you have to come to terms with the fact that they're stuck in about 1990 as far as "best practices" go and a lot of what you can do with websites just doesn't work well for them.
You need to start in Dreamweaver with a table based layout, then add your images from photoshop (the html created by PS is notoriously rigid and difficult to add/change anything in). The problem is, not all email clients are alike and very few of them render like a browser. There are some that won't show any images, there are some that will strip out css or the entire <head> section of an html document and there are others that will render with all the fidelity of a modern browser.

  • Simple HTML page HELP needed

    Hi all,
    Here's my dilemma:
I've got this simple html page that I've made with
dreamweaver CS3. On the starting page I want to put a section
called "NEWS", under which there would be essentially a texfield
with the news. Now, I don't want to put the news text in the html
code. Rather, I'd like the code to somehow take this text from a
separate text file which I could edit at will and simply overwrite
on the host server so that changes are seen in browsers.
I don't need a real CMS (besides, CMS is way over my head).
Just this one text field. I've tried with the textfield/text
area/HTML object/etc. in the 'insert' tool but none worked. Can
this be done at all? Appreciate any help.

You can do this with a server-side include. The first thing
    you need to
do is to find out whether your hosting company has enabled
    server-side
includes, or if you have access to a server-side language
    such as ASP or
PHP. The way that you create a server-side include is
    slightly different
    in each type of setup.
When you have found what your remote server supports, someone
    can give
    you further instructions.

  • Email help needed

I have had a BB 8330 for 2 years now. The person at Verizon helped me and made me an email @vzw.blackberry.net
My question is now my city has issued us BB 8530 and I want to add that email address to the city phone so I can get the same emails on it forwarded from the city email.
Not exactly on top of this black berry stuff and have not found an answer here as I might be searching in the wrong area.
    Any help would be good.
    Thanks

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
That email account is managed by VZW...you'd need to contact them for assistance. But, as a heads up...those types of email accounts typically apply solely to that one single BB and cannot be shifted elsewhere. Had you instead used a standard internet-facing email account (e.g., Yahoo, GMail, etc.), you could very easily shift that to a new BB.
Further, it is not possible to create a forwarding rule on that VZW email account...see this KB:
KB13772Unable to auto forward email messages from one BlackBerry address to another BlackBerry address
I've never actually had one of those email accounts as they are useless to me since the BB can interface quite well with normal internet-facing email systems. Further, if you deactivate the old BB, that email account may well be deactivated at the same time.
Honestly, I recommend abandoning that dedicated email address in favor of a true internet-facing email account, interfaced to the BB via BIS:
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/blackberry101/setup.jsp#tab_tab_email
If the original reason for the @VZW email account was because your true email system couldn't interface with BIS, then you likely have a forwarding rule on that original system...and you could simply change that rule to forward to your new BB (either via a new @VZW email address or to an internet-facing email system to which the BB/BIS can be integrated).
    Good luck!

  • Responsive menu issue help needed

Need some help trouble shooting an issue I'm having with a responsive menu not working. Use this link to see the website:  http://www.sherwoodcompanies.com/home
When I test the menu for the smallest screen width, the menu is converting to the menu button like it's supposed to, but when you click on it, it does nothing. I'm sure this is a super basic thing I keep overlooking, but I can't seem to find the issue.  Any thoughts?

No problem. We will figure this out. I am going to have you revert back to the way it was on a couple of things. Since this is foundation, I will study their docs a little and get this the way it is supposed to be. It has to be something simple.
Starting with the scripts.js file. revert back to the following.
    Line 88 - $menuBtn = $('#menu-toggle'),
    Line 89 - $navUl = $("#window"),
    Line 107 - $navUl.toggle();
    Foundation.css
    On Line 1148 uncomment "overflow:hidden;"
    On Line 1244 revertback to  display:block instead of display:none;
I also want you to place your script files in the footer in this order. Also leave modernizer at the top in the header.
    <script src="/_assets/js/vendor/jquery.js"></script>
    <script src="/_assets/js/foundation.min.js"></script>
    <script src="/_assets/js/vendor/fastclick.js"></script>
    <script src="/_assets/js/scripts.js"></script>
This is the setup that it should be, but we know it still does not work. So I will look at it from another angle.

Thanks so much for your response Anita.
Since I posted this, I noticed a blurb on the Weblogic site that mentioned Service
Pack 9 fixes any problems with JSSE and SSL from within a Weblogic jsp/servlet.
That service pack also includes an example of using the Weblogic SSL routines
to make outgoing HTTPS connections. So, I'm trying to install service pack 9 and
use the example code included in the distribution. I may end up trying what you
listed below however, because SP 9 seems to be screwing up some of our functionality.

  • Motorola Droid/Exchange Email help needed

After a lot of tries I was able to seemingly create a new email account using the settings for my Outlook account at work,  and realizing that I have to go through the owa server to do it. (At least that is the only way it connected.)
However, I don't believe emails are actually being sent from this account, nor am I getting emails even though I think the settings are all correct.
Wondering if someone out there can assist me?
I added an account with [email protected] and my password.
clicked Exchange as the type and then set Server Settings as listed below.
    Domain\Username:
    myworkdomainname\myusername
    Password:
    Server:
    owa.businessname.org
and per instructions from my IT guy, I have unchecked Use secure connection (SSL).
I've got all the Account Settings as I want them, including status bar notifactions.
I sent a test email to vzn, as well as some to my gmail account and the exchange account. In all cases they remain in my Outbox after I hit send (or ask to send messages in the outbox again). As a side note, when I open the folders, there is no Inbox, I am assuming I need to get an email in that inbox in order for it to show up.
I've tried sending an email to the account I am trying to set up here from gmail and it shows up when I check my inbox by logging in through the owa site, but nothing on the phone.
Anyway, I am new to the Droid, and in fact any smart phones, and I am very confused about why it seems as though I have set up an account but nothing happens when I try to send an email.
I am hoping that it is just some random setting that I didn't know I needed to check or uncheck or something.
I've only found things on line or at this forum that tell me to do what I have already done, so hopefully I've listed the information I needed to here and someone knows what I am doing wrong.
    Thanks

Sounds like the server settings may be incorrect.  I'd check with the IT guy and make sure ActiveSync is properly configured on your Exchange server.  Are there any iphone, palm pre or windows mobile users that work with you?  Those also use activesync and you should be able to get the settings from them.  You may also want to try the app Exchange by Touchdown in the market.  Last time I looked, it was $19.99 and offers a lot better exchange support than the native email clients in stock android or senseui devices

    Hey there'
I have the 8830 and i used to be able to delete my "gmail" emails from both the handheld device and server.  as of the past few months, nearly a year actually, it has not been deleting the emails off of my gmail server.  how do i get back to being able to clean out me inbox from my handheld?
    thanks
    vm

Check and see what your Delete On setting is set to. Go into Messages | Options | Email Reconciliation. If you change to your gmail account, is the Delete On set to Mailbox and Handheld? If not change it to that.
Also if you log onto your carrier's BIS site, is the option to synchronize your deleted messages checked under your Gmail account?

  • ICloud email--help needed!

When I try to use my iCloud email, i get an error message saying, "server has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem."  The contacts, notes, and calendar all work fine on my Mac as well as my iPad and iPhone.  My gmail account works fine.
I am connected to another Mac in my home, so maybe there is a network problem? if so, any ideas what to do about it?
    Any other suggestions?

    UPDATE (25/3/12)
The issue resolved itself after about 8 hours, so evidently this was a server-side problem at Apple which only affected one of my iCloud addresses. Throughout the issue the Status report for the iCloud Server reported no problems: Apple needs to provide more accurate information on its server status.

  • Help needed with creating HTML email in Dreamweaver

Hi everyone, would really appreciate some help with a dilemma or two that I have.
I have created the following newsletter in Dreamweaver and uploaded it to our website:
    http://www.nova-design.co.uk/sales/000030.html
Now, when I go into my email mass mailing client (Handymailer) and send a test out, I encounter a couple of problems.
Firstly, in Outlook when I receive the email, the grey table on the right of the eshot, is crushed and a lot of the single line text is forced to go over two lines...
Secondly, in Hotmail, the table displays fine, but it does say that "This message is too wide to fit your screen.  Show full message."
Once I click "Show full message" it displays in full, but I then need to scroll across to the middle of the browser to view the email.
If I left align the newsletter will this problem be solved?  Or is there a way in Dreamweaver that I can edit the entire page size so that it's not too wide?
The table is 600px wide so I assumed that any email sent out would shrink to this size.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!  This is the first full HTML email I have sent out so it's going to be far from perfect!

Make the transparent gif 1px high.
Is it the links in the right column that go onto two lines? If so that could be because the links are wider than the actual column itself..so you will have to make column wider.
If you can't sort it, have  a look at the code below, copy and paste into a new Dreamweaver document and test out. Inline css styling is used in the code below. I've masked your email so no spam bots get hold of it.

I have one apple ID for multiple devices in my family.  I'd like to keep it that way for itunes/app purchases.  I would like a simple step 1, step 2, step 3 response on what I need to do to separate all other features like imessage, contacts, emails, etc.
I have been reasearching how to do this on the internet, but I haven't found an easy explanation yet.  My family is going crazy over each others imessages being sent to others in the family and not being able to use FaceTime because of conflicting email addresses.  I have read that if each person gets their own iCloud account, this would work.  However, I need to know what to do after I set everyone up with their own iCloud account.  Do I make that the default email address to be contacted or can they still use their hotmail email addresses.  Any help- with easy explanation- would be much appreciated!!

We do this in my family now.  We have one account for purchases, so it is used to share music and apps (I think that is in Settings/iTunes & App Stores).  Each iDevice has this configured.
Then, each of us has our own iCloud account that is configured under Settings/iCloud.  That then allows us to have our own Mail/Contacts/Calendars/Reminders/Safari Bookmarks/Notes/Passbook/Photo Stream/Documents & Data/Find My iPhone/and Backup.  That Backup piece is pretty sweet and comes in handly if you replace your iDevice.  You can just restore from it.
So we all share the Apple Store account but we all have our own iCloud accounts to keep the rest seperate or things like you mentioned are a nightmare.
In answer to what iCloud does for you: http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/
Think of it as an internet based ("cloud") area for all of those items listed in my response.  What you need to remember is photo stream only maintans the last 1000 pictures so don't count it as a complete backup solution for your pictures.  Even though I rarely sync with a computer these days, I do still try to sync my phone with iPhoto (I have an iMac) so that I have copies of all of my pictures.  1000 may not stretch as far as it sounds.
