Simple HTML page HELP needed

Hi all,
Here's my dilemma:
I've got this simple html page that I've made with
dreamweaver CS3. On the starting page I want to put a section
called "NEWS", under which there would be essentially a texfield
with the news. Now, I don't want to put the news text in the html
code. Rather, I'd like the code to somehow take this text from a
separate text file which I could edit at will and simply overwrite
on the host server so that changes are seen in browsers.
I don't need a real CMS (besides, CMS is way over my head).
Just this one text field. I've tried with the textfield/text
area/HTML object/etc. in the 'insert' tool but none worked. Can
this be done at all? Appreciate any help.

You can do this with a server-side include. The first thing
you need to
do is to find out whether your hosting company has enabled
server-side
includes, or if you have access to a server-side language
such as ASP or
PHP. The way that you create a server-side include is
slightly different
in each type of setup.

HTTP response code 502 means temporarily overloaded.
I would say that we have to check the deployment error on the weblogic server logs located at <Domain_Home>\servers\dupe\logs\dupe.log
Check for any errors like OutOfMemory etc OR any deployment failures.
If possible, try accessing the console at http://dupe:7031/console
Check if you are able to successfully deploy your application using the console.
From the error it looks like the "dupe" server might not be healthy. So, the log file would really help here to get clues into the root cause.

On a mac, coded a simple HTML page, but can't bring it up in firefox, it simply brings up the code instead of translating it to a web page.

I have made a very simple HTML page in text editor on my mac. I'm trying to view what the page would look like in firefox, but it just brings up the code, rather than the webpage, even though the extension in the address bar says .html.

Are you opening that file locally or have you uploaded the file to a server on the internet?
Can you post a link if you have uploaded the file?

Responsive HTML email help needed

Hi everyone,
first things first, Im a graphic Designer by trade, so some of my questions might be really simple and my method of working might be terrible...
that being said, here is my question. Im in the middle of revamping the company I work for's emails and have decided that since im doing the work, I want to make them responsive to screen size etc.
However, I create them in Indesgn, slice the PDF to Photoshop, then add the linking and text elements in dreamweaver... This has worked perfectly for me in the past but now when I try to add any code or CSS that I find that should in theory help me with my problems I just cant seem to get my designs to fir to screen...
Can anyone out their help me?
Like I said, im really not a pro at this and am working at it from a visual designers point of view...

I'm really sorry to say it and, in the interest of saving you time and headaches, I'm not going to sugar-coat it...
Pretty much everything you're doing is "the worst possible way to do it" when it comes to html email.
I'm thinking the best plan of attack for you would be to find and use a template available from services like www.constantcontact.com or www.icontact.com so you can just drop imagery and text into pre-built "will work in a large number of email clients" documents.
If you do want to learn to code html emails, you have to come to terms with the fact that they're stuck in about 1990 as far as "best practices" go and a lot of what you can do with websites just doesn't work well for them.
You need to start in Dreamweaver with a table based layout, then add your images from photoshop (the html created by PS is notoriously rigid and difficult to add/change anything in). The problem is, not all email clients are alike and very few of them render like a browser. There are some that won't show any images, there are some that will strip out css or the entire <head> section of an html document and there are others that will render with all the fidelity of a modern browser.

Simple BIP Report help needed

I am bit new to BI Publisher,I have done plenty of Oracle reports 6i and 10g.
Have read the BIPublisher Guide as well,but could not understand a few points.
suppose I want to build a very very simple report like

step 1) I will write the following query in the Data Model and store/save it.
select sysdate ,sysdate,sysdate from dual.
Step 2) In the layout model I want to use .rtf layout .So in the MS word .rdf document I create /insert
a table with 2 rows and 3 columns,where 1st row will have Sysdate in all 3 columns as header.
Now to fetch date 3times(the data) from the above query,WHAT is going to be my next steps ????
I am not able to understand the link between the layout(.rtf document) and XML document.
Please can someone reply to this question and let me know ?

PS If you have been doing reports for as long as you say you prob. know this already...but I NEVER* trust Oracle to convert my dates. I convert them all to char, pass them and convert them on "the other side" (if needed). But, you can change the data type to date if you feel brave, but don't say I didn't warn you. ;-)

This simple html page won't render properly in Dreamweaver

I'm using DW 5.5 on a Mac (tried DW4 as well). I have a web page (no attachments here, so I put it at http://dl.dropbox.com/u/23232804/Books.html ) which is simply a list of permanent links to Amazon.com books - I need this for my website. Oddly, I can't load it in DW's preview window to edit it - the top part loads ok but about half-way down the page, it's blank - it's like it gives up on fetching the data from Amazon, so I can't edit it in true WYSIWYG fashion like I can with any other page. What's going on here - how do I fix this?

this is not meant to be a stand-alone page - I was going to import this content into a bigger web page. It was created for me by someone who went through and grabbed all these Amazon links. Firefox has no problem displaying the code as-is (and correctly); I would have thought that the DW preview could do at least as well - showing me the images and their associated images even if it's not a valid page in itself. Seamonkey displays (and edits it) just fine as well. It has a <head>, <body>, etc. - what is it missing that DW shouldn't be able to display it? All I want for this is to have a page with a bunch of "tiled" rectangles each representing a book and its link at Amazon.

I'm not versed enough in the details to understand the distinction you're making, but DW comes pretty close, no? It shows me how the html code will look in a browser, in a side-by-side preview pane. Clearly it doesn't work 100% of the time (as in this case), but it seems to do pretty well usually. In any case, I concede the (no doubt subtle) point - all I want is to be able to see the page and edit it as DW allows me to do for any other page I've used with it.

Simple java applet help needed

hi, im having trouble with an applet im developing for a project.
i have developed an applet with asks the user for simple information( name,address and phone) through textfields, i wish for the applet to store this information in an array when an add button below the textfeilds is pressed.
client array[];
array=new client[];//needs to be an infinate array!
I have created the client class with all the set and get methods plus constructors needed but i dont know how to take the text typed into the textfields by the user and store them in the array.
i also need to save this info to a file and be able to load it back into the applet.
Could some please help! Thank you for your time.

Simple question, Urgent help needed.(Session Related)

I am new in Java and i want help in the following query:
When there is no session already defined and no values assigned to the session and i run the
String session_loginName = (String) session.getAttribute("username");
command in a doGet method
What is the result to the string?
null? or something else?
My intensions are:
To have restricted areas in my web app and when a user clicks on a link which includes restricted content, to first call a servlet which will test if there is a session already and if not it will redirect to the Login page.

if session_loginName is null then how can you call equals method on it???? Always give it a little thought first before typing code...

Skillbuilders modal page help needed

Hello,
I have installed the Skillbuilders modal page plugin on my workspace. (APEX4.2)
I did all the default steps:
- simple interactive report with create button
- dynamic action
When I click on 'create' something pops up, but it's not something I want :)

Did you configure the plugin so that it has a specified theme? In 4.2 you can access the settings of the plugin through "Shared Components > user Interface > Component Settings", or when in the edit page of the plugin choose "Component Settings" from the "Tasks" list on the right.

Upgrading Pages help needed ASAP

I have a store bought version of Pages for my Mac which is currently version 4.3. I need the latest version to open a document I edited on Pages for ipad. Since I didn't purchase Pages through the app store how can i upgrade it?

I would call Apple and explain that you already have the iWork '09 DVD, and want the free upgrade to Pages v5.2. You must have OS X Mavericks (10.9+) on your Mac as a precondition to downloading Pages v5.2. It will move your v4.3 Pages into /Applications/iWork '09 (if not already there) where it remains fully functional.
Based on what is known after 9 months of v5 use; never has free been so expensive, as v5 has about 100+ features/functionality absent that are in v4.3. Apple is positively lethargic about improvements. Support for Pages ’08, RTF, and AppleWorks documents has been dropped. No automatic capitalization of sentences… ad nauseum.
For the critical path, why not launch Pages (v2.2.1) on your iPad. Select the sharing icon above the array of documents. Choose Send a Copy. Select the document you want to open in Pages ’09 v4.3. Click Mail. Choose Word. After the document is converted, an e-mail prompt appears with the Word .docx attached. Send it, open it in Mail on OS X, and open again with Pages ‘09 v4.3. This is the non-elegant, critical path approach to continued use of v4.3 with IOS Pages v2.2.1.

Simple Sound Recording - Help needed

Im wondering if this is possible and if so , does anbody know offhand where I can find a basic implementation of this typea thing...
I simply need to be able to read in a wav file, then record it and give it a different name. I am just trying to get this basic functionality sorted, because I will be progressing on to reading in a file, runninig some DSP algorithm on it, and then needing to save it back out, so I elieve that I need to write it in chunks much the same as the SourceDataLine buffers the sound...err am i making sense?
I have been trying to do this with TargetDataLine, and its just getting the better of me at the moment, I am able to read in the file and play it as normal, its just the recording it to an output file where I am failing.

Simple Xmonad configuration help needed.

I have no idea how haskell works at all. But I simply love xmonad!
Could someone help me out with my configuration? It is currently

This works pretty well for me, for the most part. However, I need a few keybinding. First, I want ctrl-alt-arrow to change desktops and I found I can do this with "XMonad.Actions.CycleWS", which I have installed and the configuration of:

, ("M-<Right>", nextWS )
, ("M-S-<Left>", shiftToPrev )
, ("M-S-<Right>", shiftToNext )
However, I have no idea how to do this. Also, I would like XF86AudioRaiseVolume to execute "amixer set Master 5dB+" and XF86AudioLowerVolume to "amixer set Master 5dB-" and XF86AudioMute to "amixer set Master toggle". I know I could easily do this with xbindkeys or some other extra keybinding daemon, but I want to learn how to do this the correct way in haskell. Thanks!

Is this your whole xmonad.hs ? Anyway for the keybindings part ( for multimediakeys i use xbindkeys because i use the same xmonad.hs on my laptop plus desktop ) , but you can do it without xbindkeys wich is much nicer, less apps needed. If your keys are already reconignized as XF86AudioMute then you wouldnt have to use xmodmap. You can define keys in two various ways in XMonad with the additional keysP (Util.EZconfig ) or with keys = Mykeys
I always learn from looking into others people's configs , so here is an config from another arch user. Look for the section myKeys, and define something like :
, ("<XF86AudioLowerVolume>", spawn amixer set Master 5dB+)

Simple math operation - Help needed

Hi, i have a simple mathematical operation to do, related to
a shooping cart, which i want to keep simple.
I have a input text box named QT1, where customers indicate
quantity
I have a dymanic text box, named ST1, where i want the value
of QT1 to be multiplied by 10$ (hence 10)
on the release of the button. I have a NaN answer. Here is
the code.
on (release) {
var qt1:Number;
st1 = qt1 * 10;
And then, a grand total button will add ST1 + ST2 + ST3, with
GT the name of the grand total dymamic box:
on (release) {
gt = st1 + st2 + st3;
The second part works, but the first one, with QT1 is giving
me a Nan (not a number) answer.
Any help appreciated.
