Respository setup in OWB 9 vs OWB 10.2

Hi ,
I have been working with oracle warehouse builder 10.2 and owb 11 release R1 , I was wondering how the repository was setup in owb ver9.Any help would be greatly appericiated.
Regards,
MALAM

Hi MALAM,
In OWB 9 , you have 2 repository .
1 for Design and 1 for Run time .
You can not directly access Run time repository , you need to access it via run time access user.
Where as OWB 10.2 have single repository (it is called unified repository) for Design time and Run time .
There is no need for runtime access user .
In OWB 11g , the repository is inside OWBSYS schema.
Thanks,
Sutirtha

  • Succesfully installed and setup an OWB 10.1.0.4 & Ora10gR2 & Windows 2003?

    Hi,
I want to know if anyone has been successful in:
    installing
    configuring and
having a complete and working development environment using:
    Windows 2003 AS SP1
    Ora10gR2
    OWB 10.1.0.4
    Workflow 2.6.3
We tried several times, and after designing our first map we got error ''RPE-01011'' WHEN DEPLOYING A MAP IN OWB 10.1.0.4 RPE-01011
I found several entries reporting the same error, but all the solutions listed didn't work on our environment.
    Any help is appreciate
    Thanks
    Silvio

We had a similar issue and opened a TAR, but no luck from oracle. We figured out that the install looks at 64 bit LD library, but actually uses the 32 bit. After setting this up in the runtime_service.sh script, the deployment went through and we are good to go.

  • How to setup OWF and 2 OWB repositories in 1 database

I have 2 OWB repositories in 1 database, 1 for development (OWBOWN_D schema) and 1 for testing (OWBOWN_T).
In the same database I have a OWF repository (OWF_MGR schema).
The objects in the development and test OWB repository have the same names, including the workflow package names.
In both OWB-repositories OWF_MGR is referenced in the Oracle Workflow location.
The problem is that both repositories create a synonym <workflow package name>WBRTI_WORKFLOW_UTIL in OWF_MGR schema. The one that is created as last (executed by OWBOWN_T) overwrites the first one. So the process flows in the workflow package from OWNOWN_D gives errors and can not be executed.
My first thought to solve this, was installing OWF twice. But because the OWF-installation creates public synonyms for the OWF-schema this also good give problems.
Has anyone a suggestion how to setup 2 OWB repositories together with the possibility to use ProcessFlow packages with the same name in both repositories and the 2 OWB repositories and 1 or 2 OWF-repositories installed in 1 database?
    Thanks
    Wilfried

    Hi,
i think that for ou to solve this problem you will have to create an additional OWF schema, or create two different packages and duplicate the process flows, this will sove your problem.
Since OWB deploys all mappings in a package even if you want to deploy just one i usually use a sandbox package where i test my process flow before adding it to the production package and there are cases when i have a process flow name repeated but in two different packages, so this will work.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers

  • Oracle EBS and OWB question

    Hi,
I am looking to develop a strategy on how someone can use OWB to do data export/import from/into Oracle EBS. (assumming repository already setup in OWB). Any suggestions?

In the BPEL cookbook a chapter is written that is using the Oracle Applications Adapter:

  • OWB 10gr2 - MDL1601 and MDL1201 - Metadata Import Problems

I am running OWB 10gr2 on top of a 10gr2 database for the repository. I'm trying to do an export of an entire project into MDL, and then import it into another repository in a different environment, with same setup (both OWB and database are 10gr2 there as well).
The export goes fine, but when trying to import, I get two different error messages:
    1) After selecting the MDL file to import, if I click the "Import" button I get a-
"MDL1601: Cannot import because the base language in the MDL file is missing"
    2) Also if I try to click the "Show Summary" or "Advanced..." buttons on the import screen, I instead get a-
"MDL1201: Import file is not valid. Metadata Loader release must by specified in import data file using the MDLRELEASE keyword."
As to the first error, I have verified in my source repository that the Base Language is in fact listed as "American English", and have even gone so far as to add basic "English" as an additional display language using the repository assistance, but this brings no improvement.
As to the second error, I have already found the post here in the forums explaining that it is due to a corrupted MDL file because of insufficient Java VM memory. However, I have tried the solution recommended there, also with no improvement. (it is here: Re: MDL1201: Import data file is not valid.
Any help that someone can provide would be greatly appreciated. For purposes of backing up my repository project, I'm getting concerned that if I ever needed to, I'd never be able to restore from a MDL export file!
Thanks in advance for any help.

The error is due to the corrupted MDL file. MDL is getting corrupted because there is not enough memory for java VM. To fix the MDL corruption increase memory parameters.
    1. On client PC: XXXX\owb\bin\win32\owbclient.bat change
    java -Xms64M -Xmx768M -Dlimit=768M -XX:MaxPermSize=256M
    to
    java -Xms64M -Xmx1024M -Dlimit=1024M -XX:MaxPermSize=512M
    Restart client session.
It did fix the problem in my case.
Oracle also recommends changing memory parameters on the server side (UNIX in my case)
    2.On server side XXXX/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh
    $JAVAPATH/bin/java -Xmx768M
    to
    $JAVAPATH/bin/java -Xmx1024M

I had build a project use OWB,but I dont know how to deploy this object to BIEE. I only select which table or view in build the BIEE and must setup the dimension which had been setup in OWB. Could I get the dimension information to the BIEE and dont not build it again in the BIEE.
Could you give me some good advice.

    Hi,
I guess you should deploy your OWB objects like you normally would do. These OWB objects can be imported to OBIEE. So you do not have to build these objects again.

OWB 10g and 11gR1 only deploy to OBISE (Discoverer), the OBIEE deployment directly from OWB is in the OWB 11gR2 release. You will have to build this model in OBIEE.
There are some interesting posts below on OBIEE and OWB developments here:

  • Run ProcessFlow using PLSQL

I have following setup in OWB
Under Process Flow Modules I have module called "Test_Module" and it has a package called "test_pkg" and inder that there is a process flow called "test_flow"
In Test Flow process module very first start_1 activity IO have a varchar parameter called P_Param1
I am trying to run this process flow using PLSQL as below
    BEGIN
    OWF_MGR.WF_ENGINE.CreateProcess (itemtype => 'test_pkg',itemkey => '123445678',process => 'test_flow');
    OWF_MGR.WF_ENGINE.SetItemAttrText (itemtype => 'test_pkg',itemkey => '123445678',aname => 'P_Param1',avalue => 'Test Value');

    COMMIT;
    EXCEPTION
    WHEN OTHERS THEN

It seems that this PL/SQL code unable o recongnise the Parameter. Did anyone knows whats wrong with this??
    Thanks

For anyone who interested on this issue please see below sample
    This is my environment
Under Process Flow Modules I have module called "Test_Module" and it has a package called "test_pkg" and under that there is a process flow called "test_flow"
In Test Flow process module very first start_1 activity I have a varchar parameter called P_Param1. This was deployed to "OWF_LOCATION1" location
SO we can execute above processes Flow as below
    BEGIN
    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE('Result: ' || TO_CHAR(wb_rt_api_exec.run_task(_'OWF_LOCATION1','PROCESSFLOW','test_flow', P_Param1=Parameter_value', null, 1)));

  • 11gr2 Control Center Service run_service.sh Issues

So after a few days of searching this forum (and many other online forums), I was unable to find anything related to this specific topic at all. Since I beat my head against a wall for a few days to figure this out, I figured if I can save even one other poor soul from hitting this issue then this post would be worth it.
In short, we have a two tier'd setup for OWB 11gR2 that we're building out as part of a data center migration project. Our intent was to run the control center service on an application server (completely apart from the database server which according to Oracle support, isn't normal - and initially, they told us wasn't supported... until I forwarded them a copy of the install & admin guide and they realized it was a valid architecture in that document on page 1-5... what the bag??). We installed the OWB standalone client (important to note, on a Red Hat Linux 64 bit box) exactly as per the instructions.
So onto the actual problem. When we tried to launch the control center service, it would start with the following output:
2013/05/22-10:58:53-CDT [558385E3][] Platform Service for null

This is the entry from Ref. Doc ID 402401.1 - How To Setup a Remote Control Center Service or Remote Runtime With OWB 10.2, and this is exactly how we called the process:
    cd <owb_home>/bin/unix
nohup echo <unified_repos_password> | run_service.sh -manual 1 control_center_service_home unified_repository servername listenerport servicename &control_center_service_home --Oracle Home where OWB software is installed
unified_repository --Schema name of the Unified Repository (owbsys)
servername --Server where Unified Repository is installed
listenerport --Listener port for the DB
servicename --Service name of the DB
This allows the service to run in the background, even if you log off of the terminal (which is ideal vs. using the local_service_login.sh script and xwindows to start it manually on a unix platform).
At first, this error smacked of the control center service using the wrong oracle home. It was spitting that error above out to STDOUT, instead of to a file in the owb/log file directory as it should. To see what would happen, I updated the wb_rt_service_nodes table to use the application server home value instead of the server side home... and it actually "worked". Starting it back up made it look almost right, except any sqlldr maps were being deployed with a warning... so I knew that wasn't it.
After much research and playing around, and a moment of sheer, blind luck (I created myself a unix alias to issue the run_service command, and accidentally added an additional dash in front of the node id parameter i.e. "-1"), the warning dissappeared and we also were able to deploy a sqlldr map without a warning as well (the other symptom of this was that any sqlldr map would deploy with a warning saying it couldn't find/create the .ctl file... but it was looking in the OWB home on the DB server, not the application server!!).
To summarize, it would appear that in order to startup a standalone 11gr2 control center service on the Linux 64 bit distribution of the code correctly - you must add the extra dash in the nodeid parameter like so:
    <nohup stuff>run_service.sh -manual -1 <everything else>
If you don't do this, the control center service won't run properly and all the symptoms look like it's runing with the wrong oracle home... which, given the apparent lack of documentation from Oracle on the subject of running remote control centers, you may go crazy with the reset_owbcc_home.sql and remote_owb_install.sql scripts. Hope that helps someone.

Forget to mention that i did execute the service_doctor.sql and the result is the following
All PL/SQL packages and functions are valid
Platform properties have been loaded correctly
Platform location has been seeded correctly
NLS messages have been loaded correctly
    The platform service is available
There is a problem accessing the service startup script from the databaseserver
Here is the detailed error message which contains the name of the startscript file:-
Service startup file '/app/oracle/owb/bin/unix/run_service.sh' is notaccessible from the database server on instance number 1
Please verify that the disk containing the file is visible to thedatabase server
Please verify that the database server account has access rights on thefile
Connection information stored within the repository is correct

You need to run product\11.2.0\dbhome_1\owb\wf\install.bat for the Workflow assistant to run before you configure your initial repository setup then complete the Workflow Configuration Assistant.

    Hi All,
we are setting development env for Oracle 11gR2 11.2.0.2. We have installed Oracle 11.2.0.2 Database on Windows Server 2008. We need to setup OWB env to build data warehousing. Now, please tell me how we can make the right way connectivity with Oracle 11gr2 with OWB client 11.2.02...
    1. Do we need to installed OWB client on Windows XP (32) bit environment?
    2. Do we need to installed on Windows 7 (64) bit environment?. We know that 64 bits version of OWB does not exist for windows environment and need to install OWB Client 32 bit as run as administrator in Windows XP mode)
please reply as soon as possible, what is the best way to work in 11gr2. Do we need to apply any patches after installation..... please reply in detail...
    Thanks in advance.
    Dinesh

    Hi ,
by installing oracle itself you have to choose owb installation in serverside.
After that you can install client version in your client machines and you can acces the server.
but all bug fixes will be available in the owb 11.2.0.2 version.
    Thanks

please solve my this problem !i am waiting for soln
    thanks

This is a common error people get when configuring Repository Service in Admin Console...
Main reason for this is that there is an incompatible bit versions of Oracle Database and Informatica Server and windows. Try to reinstall Oracle DB or Infa Server and tryconfiguring the same it will work
Or it could be parameter issues if it is linux...

  • Accessing OWB 10g Respository through OWB 11g Client

We have an Oracle Database 10.2, we installed OWB 10.2 and created a repository.
I want to install OWB 11g Client and use the existing repository. Is this Compatable.
Thanks in advance for your suggessions.

No, there were substantial repository changes in OWB 11g, you cannot connect an OWB 11g client with an OWB 10g repository - but you can host an OWB 11g repository in a 10g database though.
