You can restore control file by specifying the path explicitly.
-- In the auxillary server
Make sure you have the CONTROL_FILES parameter in the pfile. The control files will be restored to this path
*.control_files='+LMNPROD_DG01/lmnprod/lmnprod_control01.ctl','+LMNPROD_DG01/lmnprod/lmnprod_control02.ctl','+LMNPROD_DG01/lmnprod/lmnprod_control03.ctl'Create spfile from pfile. Then
SQL> conn / as sysdba
Connected to an idle instance.
SQL> startup nomount
SQL> show parameter spfileStep5. Restore Control file
The below command will create all the 3 control files mentioned in CONTROL_FILES parameter in the spfile.
$ rman target /
restore controlfile from '/path_where_bkp_piece_is_stored/RMAN_CURRENT_CONTROL_BACKUP_0mnbvhlq_1_1.bak';After restoring the control file and mounting the DB , you can use CATALOG command to catalog backup pieces

  • Restoring From Backup - Non 3G to 3G iPad?

Hi all, I've exchanged my WiFi only model to the 3G model. I'd like to keep my settings and apps from the previous iPad to the new one so I've made a backup.
When I get my 3G iPad do I just do a full restore? A full restore won't overwrite any 3G only data that exists on that model iPad? I just want to make sure I do it the right way without buggering anything up.
    Thanks!

A restore from backup will essentially erase you iPad and replace it with what is in iTunes an your computer. Thus, if you add some things to the new iPad it will be erased if you restore it from the backup of your old iPad.

  • HELP - Restore BB Messenger Conversation from Backup?

    Hi All,
I have been having a conversation in Messenger that has suddenly turned out to be very legally important, and I now desperately need to document that conversation. If I don't have some sort of proof of what was said, it could cause quite a few problems for me.
I need to document about 5 days worth of the conversation, but I only had about 3 days viewable in the device. I back up and sync my device to my desktop frequently, so I have backups within the time frame that I need, but when I try to restore the database files for messenger, the conversations are totally gone!
Also, when the restore process failed for the older messenger db, I tried to restore to the latest backup (which I made just a few minutes ago), and even that one is giving me nothing - no conversations whatsoever!
What's up with this? Am I doing something wrong, or does RIM just not think it's worth a few kb of storage on my pc to backup the messenger conversations when I do a manual backup of my entire device?
I'm kind of freaking out, too, cuz everything I read on this forum and others talks about restoring the app, or restoring contacts, but I can't find a single thread that talks about restoring conversations.
I have only a partial backup of the stuff that was on my device an hour ago, and I can't even get that stuff loaded back on now.
Please tell me I'm not totally screwed.

Use the IPD backup file with a PC application like ABC Amber IPD Extractor or MenaStep's Magic Berry to extract the IPD file and get the information you need from the back up.

  • How do I restore my iphoto library from backup

    Hi,
I'm trying to find instructions on restoring my iPhoto library from a backup that is not based on Time Machine.  I have an external hard drive with the entire user folder information which includes all the photos.  I'd like to know if I should delete current file and replace with the backup, or something else?
    Thanks much!

The risk free way to do it is to drag the iPhoto Library from the Pictures Folder on the Back Up to your Desktop.
Then open it and check it:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library'
If it's all there and working correctly, then - and only then - delete the one currently in your Pictures Folder.
    Regards

  • What happens if I restore my new iPhone from backup but keep the old phone on?

I currently have an iPhone 5 and have the 6+ on the way. I'm worried about the size of the 6+ so I'd like to test it out for the 14 day period. If I set up the 6 by restoring from iCloud backup can I still keep my 5 up and running. I wasn't planning on transferring my cell service over to the 6 yet and just running off wifi. Obviously iTunes is going to see both phones as being the same device so that would cause a problem but what if I left wifi sync and iCloud backup on the 6 off. Would this setup work? Thanks in advance.

What I mean is still track my stolen one. I don't know if this will make sense to you but I'm thinking that if I restore the back up data on this phone..on my stolen phone it will like forget the icloud account or something and think this phone is the stolen one so when I go to track the stolen one, it will show that phone as the one I have now because I restored the back up from that phone.

    Welcome to the Apple community.
Firstly, you cannot selectively restore content from your iCloud backup. Secondly, your contacts are not part of your iCloud backup.

  • When I restore my IPAD 2 from backup, I lost all Emails. what to do?

Following instruction I restore and reload my Ipad2. Everything seems OK but all emails were gone. Is there a way to recover? This give me no confident that everything can be restore after a hardware failure.

Who said everything can be restored when restoring from the backup?
Email account settings are included with the iPad's backup, but email account mailboxes and messages are not.
Move into the 21st century with email account access - stop using a POP account.
With an IMAP account, all server stored mailboxes and messages remain on the server and will not be lost when deleting and recreating the account if needed, which is what is done when restoring an iOS device from the device's backup. Email accounts are deleted and recreated when doing so.

  • Database Recovery From Backup Or Datafiles

I have a consistent full backup in NOARCHIVE mode, and want to restore to a new machine. I have created a new instance on the new machine, but can't restore from my backup on the old machine. I also have a full set of data files that I can copy to the new machine. Can anyone tell me how to recover using these files? I have found lots of info about recovering from database damage, but nothing about recovering from oracle/os damage. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do u have the copies of initparameter files, control files, datafiles and also the redo log files.
copy all the datafiles including the redo logfiles to the new location, edit the initparameter to change the location of the control files, the archive logs , sid etc.
Login as internal at Svrmgr30 and startup the database in the nomount stage create a control file to reuse the existing datafiles and try to open the instance.

  • How to restore ipad2 ios 7 from backup

I have an ipad2 which I backed up on my computer.  I copied all files from Itunes folder and ipad2 folder.  Also did a backup using itunes.  I have the iPad2,2 7.2 Restore.ipsw somewhere in my computer.   Is there a way to restore my ios 7 (getting rid of the miserably non-functional ios8) from my backup?  If so, how can I find it in my computer?  what is the step by step restore procedure?  Do I need to turn off wifi in order to get the ipsw to take?  Or do I need to restore to factory settings, and then "update" to 7.2?  How would I do that?   Please help!  I've spent the last ten days trying to figure this out and am about to turn my once beloved ipad 2 into a man-made reef (deep, deep in the ocean!).

Sorry, Apple does not support the downgrading of the iOS.
Even if you managed to find it on your computer, when your try to validate the install with iTunes it won't work because Apple only signs the current iOS.
I know iOS8 can take come getting used to, if you'd like to start another thread with our issues perhaps people here can suggest things that will help.

  • Desktop manager 7.1 fails to restore Contacts and Calendar from backups

Today I discovered that I lost my contact and calendar lists on my playbook after upgrading to OS version 2.1.0.1032.
As a precaution I backed up my device data and apps using desktop manager 7.1 and used windows explorer to duplicate my media folder using the Z:drive option before I started the OS upgrade.
Since I learned how to deal with lost device data and apps on my BB smart phone I was confident that I could apply this knowledge to my Playbook too, just in case something happened.
Well, something happened. My PlayBook backup file became a trap even so the desktop manager manual said: “To restore all your smartphone data or tablet data, click All device data and settings.”
If one ‘thinks’ the phone learning curve can be applied to the Playbook one is doomed as I found out today. The PlayBook backup function for the contact and calendar listing behaves differently than for the BB phone. There is no warning in Desktop Manager 7.1 which says: “This backup file excludes contact and calendar data files which were manually built by the user and are not part of a synced email server”.
So this posting is about letting other users know to be aware of some OS 2.1.0.1032 short comings. If your contact and/or calendar list was manually built, i.e. it was not linked to an email account you might encounter the above issue.
When I noticed that my contact and calendar file did not sync with my email account I started to use my contact list for everything useful to remember not just contacts. There were many extra fields available in the PlayBook contact list which could not be matched with the limited fields found in other synced contact lists. So I built a big ‘Good to Know’ file with all kinds of info hoping that one day I could use it also with BB10.
Unfortunately this OS version wiped my contact and calendar lists which none of the other OS updates were able to do and the ‘Restore’ option via desktop manger 7.1 did not work!!!.  So it looks like some engineering wizard at RIM is trying to upset the non-linked contact list users with this release version.
I hope RIM finds this ‘group of moles(?)' and deals with these engineers before they can do anymore damage. Remember RIM, the object is to enjoy new updates not to fear them. It would be nice if desktop manager 7.2 would alert us users with a warning or lets us export these files via another tip like: “How can I back up contact and calendar files for the PlayBook“. I realize as of today that this problem was with me all along but came only to light after this OS release wiped my 2 lists completely. There is also no hint in the PB or Desktop user manuals!
For the time being I will use only my phone’s contact and calendar lists via the bridge as a work around  but I hope the responsible RIM manager reads this postings and tells his engineers to go forward not backwards. Tell them to include a backup feature for non-linked contact and calendar data in 7.2. Not everybody has linked data files or if this is RIM’s intention then let us users know upfront that one could loose his/her data.
If you ‘liked’ this posting click the ‘Thumb up’ box near by even so this issue has no solution at this point in time. Let’s hope RIM deals with this issue eventually.

Here is a new KB article re: this issue:

  • Restoring from backup to new location + not wanting files renamed

Hi there - I am a newbie to this forum.
I have a Win XP machine that recently needed to have the hard drive wiped and the OS re-installed. Fortunately I had a recent backup of all my data so I'm in a good starting position for a restore. However I have some questions as the re-install of the OS has had a change in profile name.
Before my machine was wiped, I had a "Daniel" profile and so my "iTunes Media folder location" was set to C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\My Documents\My Music.
After my PC was rebuilt, a new profile was created called "dnl". iTunes has been re-installed (version 10.1.2.17). The first time I launched iTunes the "iTunes Media folder location" was set to C:\Documents and Settings\dnl\My Documents\My Music. I did NOT choose to have iTunes browse/load my files and so currently iTunes shows no files or playlists.
I have recreated the C:\Documents and Settings\Daniel\My Documents\My Music folder from my backup so all the music files and the previous libraries are presently in this location. However even if I change the "iTunes Media folder location" within iTunes to point to the "old" location, it doesn’t find the files or libraries.
I have tried deleting the following files from C:\Documents and Settings\dnl\My Documents\My Music\iTunes:
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Music Library.xml
I did this assuming that the next time iTunes was launched, it would refer to the old location (as specified as my "iTunes Media folder location"), find the old library files there and use them. However it seems to ignore them and simply re-creates the files above in the location I deleted them from.
So…I am unclear as to the best strategy to have iTunes point back to the old location to find the music files and retain all the playlists I had.
I found this thread: http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1364. It mentions a method that will find all the files in the old location and move them to the new location, retaining playlists, artwork etc. Once the data has been copied, it advises to delete the files from the original location.
However I see that it mentions checking the ‘Keep iTunes Media folder organized’ option. From reading other threads I know this to be a source of one very irritating problem – it renames all the file names. I have specifically ripped my music using software other than iTunes for the express purpose of being able to tag the filenames with more specific info than iTunes would. I like the files to named <artist>-<album>-<track no>-<track title>.<file extension> and am not a fan of the very basic filenames that iTunes assigns.
So…I want to have iTunes simply point back to the old location and not do any file renaming. I am happy enough to have iTunes simply point to a location that isn’t technically part of my current profile. I don’t have a desperate need for the files to be moved to the dnl profile.
So…I am guessing there has to be some other file (or registry setting?) that knows where best to point to? Can this modified?
I would be appreciative of any assistance.
    Thanks!

Hi Daniel, welcome to Apple Discussions.
The default location for the iTunes library folder is <Profile><Music>iTunes with the media folder at *<Profile>\<Music>\iTunes\iTunes Media*. For XP the <Music> folder is My Documents\My Music.
When iTunes starts up it looks for a set of library files in the last location it used. If that location is also the default location and it can't find the library files it assumes it has just been installed and creates a new set.
Changing the location of the *iTunes Media* folder in preferences does not change which set of library files it opens, nor will it automatically detect all the media in that location.
Ideally you should restore the folder iTunes and all its subfolders from your backup into *C:\Documents and Settings\dnl\My Documents\My Music* and start iTunes. All should work perfectly and, as far as iTunes is concerned, you will be using the same library as you used to. Any iDevices should sync without problems.
If you media was not is the usual locations or you are unable to restore the entire iTunes folder then things become more complicated. Post back if you still have trouble and I will try to go into more detail.

I seem to have lost all my addressbook information, ie addressbook is blank. I do have a recent clone of my mac. How do I go about restoring all my groups / contacts back into addressbook using either my clone or time machine?
