Restore DB from Incremental Level 0 and Level 1 Differential

Due to aging servers, I need to move a database to a new server; therefore, I'm looking to backup source db using rman level 0 and restore it as target db on another host. While the target db is restoring from the level 0, I want to run a differential of souce db and apply it to target db once the level 0 is complete. Is this possible? I searched through rman documentation and it appears that it is not possible. I see that you can do a restore but the restore is based on the date/time of the differential, which gets the level 0. Could I run 2 restore database commands before running the recover database and alter database open resetlogs commands? The first restore database command would restore the database from the level 0 backup and the 2nd restore database command would restore from the differential backup. Any help is appreciated.
TIA

I have run into a Problem with my setup:
The steps that i used to do to maintain the "standby" server are as follows:
take a level 0 backup(backup incremental level 0 database) on sunday and recover on standby server
take a level 1 backup(backup incremental level 1 database) on monday and recover on standby server
take a level 2 backup(backup incremental level 2 database) on tuesday and recover on standby server
take a level 3 backup(backup incremental level 3 database) on wednesday and recover on standby server
take a level 4 backup(backup incremental level 4 database) on thursday and recover on standby server
but when i was trying to take a level 5 , i realised that 5 is the limit of taking incremental backups
does that mean i have to take level 0 ,again,on friday and carry in the above fashion
also,
sometimes after recovery,my system files

the archives it asks for are expected,as they are the archives generated post incremental backup, but why does my system datafile go into recovery? i am a bit confused about that?
it occurred after i applied level 2 on my "standby" server, when i applied level 3 over this ,then it did not occur..
i would like a discussion on this guys!!

Restored it from a backup and now there's no music on it. In the music tab it iTunes says: Thomas iPhone has access to music on iCloud. Songs can be fetched via WIFI or a mobile network. The pnly thing I can chose to sync are voice memos.
    What can I do?

If you want all the songs from an artist on your phone you can to to the artist view, tap on the artist, scroll to the bottom of the list and you will see a Download All button.  This works for playlists and albums too (scroll to the bottom and tap the Download All button).  I suppose if you wanted all your music on your phone you could create a smart playlist in iTunes on your computer that would contain all your music, upload it to iTunes match (Store>Update iTunes Match), and then you would get a Download All button at the bottom of this playlist on your phone to download all your songs.

Iphone would not restore---- Error -50. I have tried to restore, and it restored it to the new point that it created after 5.0 was installed. How can I get it an older restore point from my backups and restore it on another computer? The phone has been wiped out. I can see earlier backups in my C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup folder. There are four subfolders in this address. I need my contacts, photos, and messages back. I know this is a common error but I can not figure it out. I have ran the other troublshoot items in the error steps for 13 and 14 like apple says. Is there a way to call apple and get a step by step of how to restore from another restore point? Does anybody have a solution????

It tells you to go to Error 13 and 14 if you receive error (-50).
Here is what I have tried...
Error 13 and 14: These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting. I have moved it around to different ports.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer. Didn't change anything.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
Eliminate third-party security software conflicts. Removed all virus protection and firewall.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.Used the Microsoft fix it.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online. Doesn't matter.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network. I do not know how to do this or how to find the correct/full/complete restore point. There should be more information for this.

    Hi Maastricht2014,
Until and unless you remember the password to your old email address, you will not be able to access the eBooks as those eBooks are only authorized with your old email address only.
The only workaround or alternative to access your eBooks will be to contact the eBook vendor and ask them to migrate the eBook from your old email to the new one.
    Hope that Helps!

  • Restoring iTunes from Time Machine and external HD

    Hi there,
I've done some searching and i haven't been able to find the answer to this problem. I am wondering if someone can help me with this.
My HD was faulty so i had it replaced.  my complete 300gb music library was backed up on an external HD. The iTunes program was running on my local HD. So i ran the local iTunes off of my ext. HD.
Now that i have a new HD and i restored everything from Time Machine, for some reason all my playlists and songs have been emptied from the new iTunes.
I am trying to restore it to its original state instead of readding everything from the external HD and trying to remember all the playlists.  (and that doesn't work either as it comes up with errors.)
I have looked for the plist and or old .itl or.xml but nothing shows up.
    Any ideas?

Did you restore the entire disk from Time Machine?
Boot from your System install DVD then Restore from backup and select the Time Machine drive?

  • Trying to restore photos from external drive and realized TimeMachine had been turned off.  Found in Imac backup folder in iPhoto library a modified folder with many of the missing pics.  Can I restore these?

I recently had a hard drive crash on my iMac.  After replacing the drive, I discovered that TimeMachine had apparently been turned off for six months, and all my photos from that period were missing after the restore.  In looking on the external drive used by TimeMachine, I discovered a folder called Imac backup, and under iPhoto Library was a folder called Originals and subfolders for each year.  To my surprise, there were photos covering the missing time period!  Somehow I imported the 2011 folder from the external drive into iPhoto, and then I discovered they were small files of less than 100 KB each, not the 1-2 MB original photos.  So now all of 2011 is screwed up, not just from May on.  These photos also include faces pulled from many larger group photos.
I can get Jan - April restored using TimeMachine.  But in continuing to explore the Imac backup folder, I found a similar folder in iPhoto Library called Modified.  This folder has many of the missing photos in their original MB size in folders indexed by date for the missing period after April.  Is there a way that I can get these modified photos back onto my new hard drive and into the iPhoto library without causing more damage?  If TimeMachine was turned off after April, how did those modified photos and all those small images from the missing period find their way to the external drive?
    Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

What you want to do is merge the two Libraries? The only way to do this is to use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
I created a new iPhoto Library on the iMac and dragged the entire iPhoto Library from the MacBook into that new Library. It worked, however it all came over into one big album and my previous album structure was gone
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

  • Dimension's levels and level attributes

    Hi guys,
Let's say I have following situation:
Creating dimension CUSTOMERS with unique key CUS_ID.
    Levels: L_CUSTOMER and L_COUNTRY.
    One hierarchi: H_CUSTOMER_REGIONAL with levels L_COUNTRY -> L_CUSTOMER.
Now the question: What level attributes should I create?
For level L_CUSTOMER obviously CUS_ID, which is a key level attribute, and CUS_NAME.
For level L_COUNTRY what attributes should I create?
    I see two variants:
    1. COUN_ID (key level attribute) and COUN_NAME
    2. just one COUN_NAME and this will be my key level attribute.
What guidelines should I follow here? I intend to use model in Discoverer later if it influences the design here.
    Please advice.
    Thanks,
    Alex

    Alexandre,
It depends whether you plan to use the COUN_ID in a join with a summarized fact table - if yes, I would suggest to have the ID, if not (pure star schema), there might not be a great use for it.

  • Is restoration possible from java export and offline db backup

    Hi,
We patched our sandbox from sps9 to sps11, but unfortunately we did not
success doing it in prodcution. We have production servers CI export
and offline backup ( we do not have DB export ) of SPS9, Please suggest
can we reproduce our production system in to sandbox using CI export
    and offlinebackup of SPS9.
If it is, then please suggest the way through which we proceed and get
    it as early as possible.
Thanking your for your eraliest help and response.
    Regards,
    Nizam

edit:  ok, I was confused by what you said before.  I think you are asking "how to create a sandbox from backup of production".
First, I'm not sure if SAP has a tool to simpily change the SID, server names, system number, etc.
To do this, you'll have a lot of fun (sarcastic):
    1. Restore offline backup from production to sandbox.
    2. Make sure your database permission fro SAP<sandboxSID>DB is set right.  Manually copy the permissions from the production database server just to be sure.
    3. Change all objects in the database from SAP<productionSID>DB schema to SAP<sandboxSID>DB.
    4. If the user SAP<productionSID>DB exists in the database, you can drop it at this time.  All object schemas should've been converted to SAP<sandboxSID>DB
    5. Run the config tool, click no when asked to use default DB credentials.  In the DB login information page, change the server from production to sandbox.  Change the user from SAP<productionSID>DB to SAP<sandboxSID>DB.
    4. Close config tool and open again, try to connect.  This is the first step, you MUST be able to connect successfully.
    5.  You now need to go through ALL entries in Java Administrator and Config Tool, to ...
      - Change all references to the production application server name to the sandbox server name.
      - Change all references to the production database server name to sandbox server name.
      - Change all reference to SAP<prodcutionSID>DB schema to SAP<sandboxSID>DB schema.
      - If the system number is different, you must locate all port, system number, etc. and change them too.
    6.  Lastly, there are some .config and .properties file in the cluster folder in the kernel directories.  You must ...
Gripe to SAP:  What the H guys ... ABAP = 4 places where I have to change when I shuffle systems around.  JAVA = like 4 million places.  Why why why why why why!!!!! Bang head on table

I recently upgraded my Iphone 4s to 5.1.1 and founf the Wi-Fi button in settings greyed out saying No Wi-Fi.  I have tried Reset network Settings, Rest All Settings and restore in Itunes but to no avail.  I understand this is a comon occurence but I cant find a solution to it.  Can anybody help?

    See this tip --> http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1559
If this doesn't resolve it you most likely have a hardware failure. Fortunately, your phone is in warranty, so if you take it to an Apple store they will replace it.

I was wondering when you update and restore a i-pod touch do you lose data stored on your apps ( ie levels and games center info) ?

    Not with an update.
With a Restore, you do lose the data but, as part of the update procedure, you are given the opportunity to back up that information.  Say "Yes" and later, when asked if you want to load from the backup file, again say "yes."

  • Migrating from 2003 domain/forest level to 2008R2 with all DC's at 2008R2 and 2 other Domain External and Forest Trusts

Is there anything that needs to be done or considered when migrating from 2003 domain/forest level to 2008R2 with all DC's at 2008R2 with 2 other 2003 separate Domain incoming
and outgoing Trusts, one Trust that is a Forest Trust and the other is an External Trust? Is there any chance or risks that doing this upgrade will break either one of these Trust relationships? Some of the user accounts with SID history have been migrated
from both Domain Trusts to our domain. Any chance that this upgrade will break these relationships for users that are using SID history for access to folders and files in their old Domains? If so what can be done to protect these trusts and SID history, prior
to moving the Domain to 2008R2

    Hi,
    Based on my knowledge,
the Upgrade of the function level do not affect the trust relationship.
Besides, before you upgrade the Functional Level,
verify that all DCs in the domain are, at a minimum, at the OS version to which you will raise the functional level.
Once the Functional Level has been upgraded, new DCs on running on downlevel versions of Windows Server cannot be added to the domain or forest.
For more information about function level, we can refer to following links:

  • ASCP Taking Lead time to buy Item from Item Level and not from ASL

    Hi All.
We have a buy Item Which is used at multiple Organization now we have defined processing Lead time for this Item at Item Level and ASL level (Global) However for different organization Like ABC and XYZ we have same supplier and Supplier Site for this item,
Below is the details of Item
Item's Processing Lead Time at Item Level
    Org - ABC - 35
    Org - XYZ - 15
Item's Processing  Lead Time at ASL Level
    Org - ABC - 10
    Org - XYZ - 5
Now when we run ASCP plan for org XYZ and check for exception, Item's Lead time is coming from Item Level (15) not from ASL Level (Does this is expected behavior from Oracle?)
    Regards.

    Hi Abhishek,
I tested one more time with the same scenario, this time ASCP is considering Processing lead time form ASL only however it is considering processing lead time for another organization (When I am running ASCP plan for Org XYZ ASCP is considering Processing lead time for ABC).
Does it is due to same supplier site for both the organization?
Also it has an active sourcing rule for the same supplier

  • How are Level 0 and Level 1 backups linked?

    Version:11g
I was going through the scripts in the post Two Questions on RETENTION POLICY
When you have a Differential Incremental backup strategy and When you run level 0 and level 1 backup scripts through different cronjobs from Sunday to saturday, during recovery, How will RMAN identify all these level 1 backups and its parent level 0 backup as one unit ? In the level 0 and its subsequent level 1 backup scripts, i don't see a clause which links level 0 backup and its subsequent level 1 backups?

    Hi Steve_74,
How will RMAN identify all these level 1 backups and its parent level 0 backup as one unit ?The information used during a restore is comming from the controlfile.
    Example
    select BACKUP_TYPE, INCREMENTAL_LEVEL
    from v$backup_set
Will determine the level 0 backup set needed according to your restore clause
    select INCREMENTAL_LEVEL, INCREMENTAL_CHANGE#, CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#
    from V$BACKUP_DATAFILE
    where file# = 1
Will determine which incremental(s) to apply on datafile 1 according to your restore clause.
