Restore from standby

I have a peculiar problem: one of my laptops is doing standalone measurements and may loose AC power. The laptop may have to survive up to 100 hours, and obviously, this can not be acomplished on one battery charge. Therefore I made a pretty nifty tool (with LV) that monitors whether AC is present and switch to a survival mode when it runs on battery. This means I basically set it to standby most of the time. Periodically, I revive from standby to detect if AC is present again. I revive from standby using Windows task scheduler.
And that is the problem: taskscheduler doesn't get the computer out of standby when it was put into standby with my method. And windows built-in power management is not doing the trick quite right either.
Does anyone know how to use labview or windows script to get a computer out of standby?
Thanks!

Karsten,
Thanks, that was the kind of document I was looking for, short of VI's already made to interface with win32.
As far as the project it was intended for, I resorted to a small micro-ATX computer instead. The computer has the necesary BIOS feature "power on after power failure." It senses that power is supplied again and boots. I hope to continue my work on this, though, because it adds great functionality to "in field" laptops.

  • X200 Ultrabase - USB ports don't restore from standby

XP system.  On reopening the X200 when docked in the Ultrabase after going to standby, the USB ports on the Ultrabase do not power up.  Any ideas?  Is this a hardware fault, or BIOS/power management/drivers.

I am having a problem with my x200s ultrabay that may be similar - the DVD in the ultrabay works only ONE TIME and then dies, and I have to "reseat" it and restart the whole system, then it works ONE TIME, etc.  Lenovo Gold is going to send me a replacement DVD drive to see if it is that, but I am starting to think the ultrabases are not so great.  When the machine is off the base, it is a great machine.  When I put it on the base (to make access to a 22" monitor, full sized keyboard, mouse, scanner, etc.) all sorts of quirks start to happen.  At one point when I was really tryng to get the DVD to access, a message about "DVDUSB.[ext]" kept flashing by, but went so fast I couldn't read it; the tech at Lenovo said that the DVD has nothing to do with USB so it is all a mystery.  My keyboard/mouse are USB, and they were acting up quite a bit through all of this.  Is it possible thhat some recent update screwed thngs up?  (I have had the x200 for about 4 weeks and it was acting perfectly until last week).

  • Restore production from standby database

    Hi,
I would like to make a standby database for my production database.
But, I have a basic question to restore my production database from standby database. There is a method to make it ?
If I lost all files from production database, how to restore from my standby datase (which become in this case my new production database) ?
thanks in advance for your help.
    gnom92.

    * I make a copy datafiles from my new production database (old standby database) on old production (where crash)
    * With my old production database, I make a standby database on new production database (old standby)
    * I can close the new production database and open the new standby database in read / write mode, and this is my production database.
    * After what I recreate my standby database (old standby, newproduction), or can I return in recover standby mode ?
thank you very much for your patience.

So, I made a backup of my device (iPad 2). It was on iOS 4.3.2. I updated to iOS 7. Now, I'm at the default opening screen. I have to choose language, country, then connect to WiFi. After that, it asks me if I want to start new or restore from a backup from iCloud or iTunes. I select iTunes (because my backup is on iTunes), it brings me to the "Connect to iTunes" screen. I restore the iPad, and when the loading is all finshed, I come back to the iPad, and it's back to the default screen! Then I tried again and again. 5 times it didn't work. I also tried putting it in recovery mode prior to restoring, it doesn't work either. Help please?

  • Shrink Log file in log shipping and change the database state from Standby to No recovery mode

    Hello all,
I have configured sql server 2008 R2 log shipping for some databases and I have two issues:
can I shrink the log file for these databases: If I change the primary database from full to simple and shrink the log file then change it back to full recovery mode the log shipping will fail, I've seen some answers talked about using "No
Truncate" option, but as I know this option will not affect the log file and it will shrink the data file only.
I also can't create maintenance to reconfigure the log shipping every time I want to shrink the log file because the database size is huge and it will take time to restore in the DR site, so the reconfiguration
    is not an option :(
how can I change the secondary database state from Standby to No recovery mode? I tried to change it from the wizard and wait until the next restore for the transaction log backup, but the job failed and the error was: "the step failed". I need
to do this to change the mdf and ldf file location for the secondary databases.
    can any one help?
    Thanks in advance,

    1. If you change recovery model of database in logshipping to simple and back to full Logshipping will break and logs wont be resored on Secondary server as log chain will be broken. You can shrink log file of primary database but why would you need that
what is schedule of log backup. Frequent log backup is already taking care of log files why to shrink it and create performance load on system when log file will ultimately grow and since because instant file initilaization is not for Log files it takes time
to grow and thus slows performace.
You said you want to shrink as Database size is huge is it huge or does it have lots of free space. dont worry about data file free space it will eventually be utilized by SQL server when more data comes
    2. You are following wrong method changing state to no recovery would not even allow you to run select queries which you can run in Standby mode. Please refer below link to move Secondary data and log files

    Hi
I m into scenario where my prod db is in one data center and standby is in other data center.
Both are geographically separated. I have to get a copy of prod on to standby data center side.
Sending data over the network is taking long time either with duplicate db from active db or take backup and copy over standby side and restore it.
so i thought of duplicate db from standby db which is in same data center, using 11g RMAN duplicate from active standby command.

  • TSPITR using backups from standby

    Hi,
I would like to ask for your opinion/advice regarding the following
scenario. We have a primary 10.2.0.3 RAC database which has a physical
standby database, both sites being managed through dataguard. Every
night full RMAN backups are taken for the primary and standby
databases. Between the primary and standby sites we do not have any
shared storage like NFS or SAMBA (because of the problems mentioned
    into Note:413098.1).
Now, as far as I know, backups of datafiles/archives taken from the
standby can be used on primary, am I right? So, what I would like to
achieve is to perform a TSPITR of one particular tablespace by taking
a backup control file from the primary but using datafile copies and
archives from the standby. And of course, because I don't want to load
too much the primary, the auxiliary instance should be located on the
standby machine. Is this possible? Has anybody tried this before?
    Many thanks!
    talek.

if you are on 10.2.0.3, check this document and make use of Incrementally Updated Backups: Rolling Forward Image Copy Backup
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm
You can restore datafiles backedup from physical standby
can restore archivelogs created on physical standby
but can not use control file from standby to recover on primary
You should be able to use bakcup from a physical standby and recover any tablespace in Point In Time on priamry prvovided you have a backup/datafile copy before and archives untill that time.

  • Exiting from standby issue

When one of my T61 returns from standby it immediately re-enters standby. I can then press the power button or open the lid to have it return from standby again.
Does anyone have a solution to this? I have updated the BIOS and the power management drivers with no effect.

You may have a hardware malfunction. Best to restore the hard disk to its original out-of-the-box contents as follows. If the problem persists prior to installing updates, software, or hardware, get a replacement or warranty repair.

    hi.
Its not necessary its a otherway around to recover datafile from this backupset and apply archivelogs to make datafile consistent.
yes, it ain't the right way to restore backup to primary location.
so how would i connect to standby database with primary and recovery catalog.
i need to connect to recovery catalog and primary site because i need to restore to primary location and recovery catalog contain all metadata and backupsets related information.
i also tried the following steps from oracle documentation.
Connect to the standby database as the target database:
    CONNECT TARGET sys@standby
You are prompted for a password:
    target database Password: password
Connect to the primary database as the auxiliary database:
    CONNECT AUXILIARY sys@primary
You are prompted for a password:
    target database Password: password
Back up the datafile on the standby host across the network to a location on the primary host. For example, suppose that /disk1/df2.dbf is the name of datafile 2 on the standby host. Suppose that /disk8/datafile2.dbf is the name of datafile 2 on the primary host. The following command would copy datafile 2 over the network to /disk9/df2copy.dbf:
    BACKUP AS COPY DATAFILE 2 AUXILIARY FORMAT '/disk9/df2copy.dbf';
    Starting backup at 06-NOV-08
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog

  • Wake from standby causes iPod time and date to go whacko

1.1.3 and iTunes 7.6.0.29, XP Pro.
When my ipod touch is connected and my computer wakes from standby, at that time the clock in the ipod is reset to all sorts of funny dates and times.
I cannot find any reference to syncing of the clock or how to turn it off to see how that helps.
Really annoying. Anyone found the same thing or a solution?

First I would try restoring it from backup via iTunes
Next would be to restore it to factor defaults/new iPod via itunes.
Last I would make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • RMAN RESTORE FROM TAPE DIRECTLY

    Dear All,
We are in the process of testing the restore functionality of our production Db. The Backup is taken by Rman which is integrated with Netbackp. The backup files are directly going to the Tape storage.
    Scenario
    1. We need to restore the backup into a different host which doesn't have access to the Netbackup server and Production Db (Its a DR site)(DR excercise).
    2. System team can provide the tape on the standby server.
    Concerns
    1. How can i proceed with restore in the secondary host.
    2. Is there any way to read the backup pieces from Tape and catalog it using rman
If any come across this scenario, kindly share me the solution.
    Thanks in Advance

If it is a NETBACKUP device, you can't restore without NETBACKUP. Well, there have been articles written on howto, but they all seem to end in "I just installed netbackup, imported the tape and restored from there."
I NEVER, EVER backup directly to tape - always to disk - most frequently with enough space to store 2 full backups plus enough archivelog file space to span before and after those backups, then sweep the backup location to tape. Recovering from tape can take 50-150% longer. If you use NETBACKUP, install it where it is needed. Going "cheap" could potentially cost the company more in downtime, than the licenses would have costs. If you NEED data, you NEED licenses to run the tools required to recover from a disaster.
The sad part is that should a catastrophic failure occur, it is usually at the most inopportune time.
Companies should treat their data [required to run their business] with the same security and backup strategies as if it was cash in the bank. I have seen a very large company literally throw away over $8M in unrecoverable orders due to impatience with bringing a system back online and not allowing the proper recovery processes to occur. Not having the proper licenses would fall into this category. Can your company afford to lose $8M in income?
Sounds like your company really needs a Business Continuity Review of your DR processes and procedures.

  • IPad 2, restore & setup as new, then restore from backup?

    Confused yet? I am!
So here we go, yes, I'm new to the forum, I've had my iPad 2 since Oct. 2011. And No, this problem isn't in my head.
Last week, I finally updated to iOS 5.1.1, and I deeply regret doing so. I had NO issue before the update, and now, my battery is garbage.
I used to be able to go 2 - 3 days before having to charge and that's with an average of 4 hours a day. Now, after just a few hours (5) I have to charge and it takes forever. I've been working with Apple, but they having given me an option I'm happy with.
    1) Mail my unit back to them to switch out with a refurb. I am against this option as I like my unit. I didn't originally buy a refurb and I should have to accept one now. The screen on my unit is perfect, no bleed or dead pixels. I've taken immaculate care of mine and I'm afraid I'll get a unit I'm not happy with. Plus, it will be running iOS 6, which I'm not ready for.
Option two is...and this needs to be done whether I return my unit or not, is a restore and setup as new. Which means I would loose all my information buried deep within my apps. This would also install iOS 6 on my unit.
    My question is this...
If I do a Restore, Setup as new, can I then go back in and do a restore from back up, to put all my stuff back in its place.
I'd love to hear from anyone that has any insight, suggestions, experience, or comments about this.
    How did you handle it?
    What was the outcome?
Did you involve Apple in the resolution?
    Or,
Is it just not worth dealing with and I should just keep using it until it won't take a charge.
I know there have been a million posts about this, and I've read a lot of them, but I just haven't found a solution yet.
And before anyone states the obvious, ALL locations are off, all email accounts are set to manual, there are no notifications set.
In the past week, I've done 3 reset all settings, drained battery until system shut down, and did an uninterrupted full charge.
I've reset network settings. I make sure apps are closed by double tapping Home button, and done a hard reset by holding power button and home button until apple icon appears. I'm at a loss, and don't know what else to do.

First, make sure you are using the most current version of iTunes 11.1.3 (8).  Second, what version of iOS 7 was your old phone running, i.e. 7.0, 7.0.1, 7.0.2? If your back-up was made with a version of iOS that is newer than the version on your new phone, it will not sync. For example, if your back-up was of a phone running iOS 7.0.4, and your new phone was running 7.0.2 out of the box, the back up will not sync to the new phone until it is updated to iOS 7.0.4.
