Restoring Backup piece on tape from FRA without RCAT using ASM

DB: 10.2.0.3
ASM: 10.2.0.3
Nightly, I have a job that backups the FRA of a 10203 DB to tape using RMAN. The FRA is on 10203 ASM. The tape is loaded, and the channel is allocated. What i'm trying to do is re-catalog the backup piece to the non default location (Disk). IE - I want to get the backup off of tape (I can only use RMAN to do this) and back onto disk and use it for Restore and Recovery...I thought it would be something as simple as specifying a non default location to restore it to but that's not working. I wonder if I have to change the db_recovery_file_dest first and then try it....any one try this before? thanks.

You should be able to restore from tape to ASM then perform the following:
RMAN> backup backupset <backupset_key> format '<disk_directory_path/format>';

Please copy the backup pieces and archivelogs from the target database to the standby database..Do remember that the location on the standby database node must be same as of the target database node..
For example : if the bkp pieces of target db node is on '/ora_backup/target_name/bkp' then the same locaiton must be created on standby
if the archivelogs of target db node is on '/ora_backup/target_name/arch' then the same location must be created on standby
    Hope its clear.

I want to restore the backup pieces from tape to disk.   Is there any way of getting those bacup pieces to disk.
I have contacted storage team, that they can't copy the files, only through rman utility the files can be used.
I just need to restore the files from tape to disk.  No, need to restore the database.  I just need this for future purpose...

You can try to use LIST BACKUP to get the backup piece name and then use Veritas tool to restore the backup piece from tape to disk.

I followed this, 3 times, and each time, the folders restore, the data in things like email and contacts restore, but none of my apps restore.
It's an iPad mini cellular version, if that matters. I plug in my iPad 3, right click on the device and select Back up. When it's done, I reset my mini, erasing everything, then restore from backup. Apps don't back up.

  • Restore backup to iPhone 4S from iPhone 4 backup but apps are missing now.

I backup my iPhone 4. Then I setup my new iPhone 4S by selecting Restore from backup and selecting the backup of the iPhone 4 that I just did. When it is all complete, most of my apps that were in stalled on the iPhone 4 are not on my iPhone 4S. A few of the custom folders are there with only one of two of my downloaded apps but most are nowhere to be seen. I have rebacked up the iPhone 4 (which I confirmed still has all the folders and apps) and repeated the restore process but it turns out the same each time. Any tips? Thanks,
    Marc

Figured it out. "Synch apps" was unchecked in iTunes.

  • How do I restore my bookmarks and favorites from the Firefox servers using my recovery key with a new hard drive?

I set up Firefox sync before getting a new hard drive. My understanding is that my favs and bookmarks would be stored on Firefox servers and could be synced to any of my devices.
However, now that I'm trying to restore to my new hard drive, it appears that I was supposed to sync previously with another device. I do not remember that explanation previously. I thought that my data was in the cloud and could be pulled at any time.
I have my recovery key. Can you help me?

I don't use Firefox sync, but my assumption was the same as yours. Have you tried the steps in the last part of this article?
[https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/How%20to%20sync%20Firefox%20settings%20between%20computers#w_what-if-im-not-near-my-first-computer How to sync Firefox settings between computers > What if I'm not near my first computer?]
Do you still have access to your old hard drive, or a backup of your old hard drive? You often can retrieve your bookmarks, saved passwords, settings, add-ons, and so forth from that. If you have access, a volunteer here can describe the process in more detail.

  • How to backup apps and music from an iphone 3g using itunes 11

Hi, my godson has been using an iPhone 3G as an iPod for music and gaming apps. I want to give him my iPhone 4 (not a 4S) and I have iTunes 11 (registered with my appleID) on my Win8 laptop. I've done a Backup of the 3G and then restored to the 4, the settings and photos "transferred" with the Restore operation, but the apps and music didn't "transfer." How do I backup (all apps and music and photos,etc.--everything on the 3G--to the iPhone 4 using iTunes 11. I think I could have done it easily with older versions of iTunes (with the "Explorer" bar on the left side of iTunes), but I can't seem to figure out how to do it with iTunes 11.
    Thanks!

  • Import a servlet from JSP without the use of a .JAR

Migrating web app from NT / iPlanet 4.1 to Solaris / iPlanet 4.1.
I've created a Web app in which JSPs utilize Servlets stored in a JAR file. I am now moving the app to a server that I do not control. I wish to configure the app in such a way that I will be able to modify the servlets and not have to restart the Web server to see the changes. I assume the only way to do this is to remove them from the JAR file.
I'm familiar with how to package servlets in JAR files and use them in JSPs, but can't figure out how to import (my own) servlets from outside the JAR file. Is there any way to do this without specifying the servlet in the CLASSPATH?
...sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm not a Java programmer. Thanks in advance. Please let me know if I have not given enough detail.

I've created a Web app in which JSPs utilize Servlets
stored in a JAR file. I am now moving the app to a

What you are asking for is called 'hot deployment'. Not all servers do that.
Tomcat 4 does for instance, but you have to configure it for your specific webapp to be able to use it.
Hot deployment just reloads all the classes in its classpath, it doesn't matter if they're in jars or just .class
