Restoring missing Comment and Markup Tools

After installing Acrobat 9 to a new computer, the tools have disappeared. Repair and un/reinstalling aren't solving the problem. Does anyone have a miracle cure? Many thanks!

To go along with George's Answer if you have acrobat X or XI:
Note: This is the Mac version of this Pannel. But the PC version should be laid out the same though not necessarily look the same.

  • Adding interactive buttons in Acrobat X Standard disables the Commenting and markup tools

Why does adding interactive buttons to PDFs in Acrobat X Standard disable the Commenting and markup tools in the PDFs, but only when they are viewed in the Reader, not when opened in Acrobat?  When the buttons are removed, the Commenting and markup tools are re-enabled in Reader.
    Thank you.

Which version of Reader are you testing with?

    Hi,
    please follow these steps:
    - You have to enable ReaderRights (on ADS configuration using VisualAdmin)
    - The PDF must be static and NOT dynamic
    Then it works.
    Take care,

  • Comment and markup problems

I work on two computers. On the first, if i select comment and markup toolbar, I get an actual toolbar at the top of the screen. On the second PC, when I do the same I get a midget versio of the toolbar that says Comments but with the rest of the toolbar cut off.
Similarly, on PC #1 when I select Show comments list, I get a list at the bottom of the screen. on PC #2, I get a cramped, small version of the list floating in the middle of my screen -- much harder to work with.
How can I make PC #2 act like PC #1? Both have Adobe Reader 9.#1 is Adobe Reader 9.1.0; I just realized that I don't know what version the other is, other than 9.
    thanks for your help.

I was searching for an answer FOREVER and finally found it (at least for me). If you have PDFlyer, that is the source of the problem. Easy fix:
    Launch Adobe X.
Click Tools on the right side of the screen.
    Click on PDFlyer.
    Click Set Options.
    Click Start up.
Unclick Restore standard toolbars on start up.
    Close Adobe X and reopen.
    Hope that helps!

  • Enable Reader Rights  for Commenting and Markup in Acrobat X Pro?

I am sure there is a nice long thread somewhere on this but I cannot find the old "Enable for Commenting and Review" in Acrobat X Pro (Windows 7, 32 bit). I get basic comments (sticky and highlight) but i need to make a PDF where my Reader X users can make all the comments and markups. I also tried doing the Send for Review task and it still did not have all the tools in Reader X.

  • How to add the "comment and markup toolbar" in adobe reader 9

Hi there, I've been trying to add the comment and markup toolbar in acrobat reader 9 but I simply cannot do it. I've tried both the Tools and View menus but I cannot add this particular toolbar. Does anyone know the reason? What can I do to get this toolbar? Even when in a pdf document commenting is not allowed, Should'nt I be able at least to see the toolbar unavailable?
    Many thanks,
    Enrique

Impossible, and illogical. PDF files are not streamed or RAM-cached so if someone is viewing a file they must have already saved it.

  • Saving comments and markups only

I have been working with construction blueprints an make comments and markings on teh PDF files.  Of course when a new revision of plans comes out One would have to paste the comments back on the revised plan.  Any way of doing a kind of overlay so all the old comments could be pasted on the new set of plans.   I understand that this would be done a page at a time and not for all 200 pages.
Working with Acrobat 4 and Adobe 8 Standard.
    Thanks

    Ok, some background.
Comments and markups are an extra layer on top of PDF. Many PDF tools don't consider them a proper part of the page and ignore them.
So the first question is: what are the PDF tools here?
You probably assume that placing PDF as graphics into Word is the most usual thing in the world. In fact, it only works in Mac OS, and with certain versions of Word. (Acrobat isn't involved in any way).
It works because Mac OS X has support for reading PDF files built into it. Macintosh Word just uses this to allow the PDF to be treated as if it is a graphic file. Clearly, Mac OS doesn't consider the annotations part of the page, and ignores them when it lets you treat them as a graphic.
Your solution, apart from accepting this as the order of the day, is to "flatten" the comments and markup so they are part of the page. I will leave it to others to suggest the best way to do that.

  • Comment and Markup Toolbar

The file I'm proofreading is not allowing me access to the Comments and Markup toolbar.  The bar itself is "greyed out" and I can't make any of the editing changes to the pdf as I normally would. The only difference I see with this file is the messages "You are viewing this document in PDF/A mode"-- is this preventing me access the C&M toolbar? Any suggestions as to how I could get this toolbar back?

You can turn off PDF/A mode in perferences: Edit > Preferences > Documents > PDF/A View Mode > Never
Once you're done editing, you shold probably set it back.

  • Enabling comments and markups by default.

My orginization uses Adobe Distiller, watching a shared netowrk location to automatically convert .prn files to PDF.  I am trying to find a way to make it to that these files BY DEFAULT have comments and markups enabled.  Does anyone know how to do this?  Is it even possible?
    Thank you

If you're asking about enabling commenting in Reader, the answer is no. You can use Adobe's LiveCycle Reader Extensions server-based product to add usage rights to a batch of documents, at a price.

  • Comment and Markup toolbar doesn´t show

    Hi,
I am using a third party application which uses Adobe Reader 9.2 Pro.
Actually the application is hosted on 2 Citrix servers that points to the application server.
    Scenario:
When hitting "Comment" option on the application, it launches an IE explorer reader with Adobe.
The server 1 uses IE Explorer 8.0.6001.19579, after hitting comment, the IE reader opens the pdf with the toolbar of Comment and Markup whitout issue.
The server 2 uses IE 8.0.7601.17514, and after hitting comment, the IE reader opens the PDF without the toolbar of Comment and Markup,i have checked and is not hidden / unchecked.
Both servers has the same configuration besides IE version.
Do you know why is this happening? I am not able to figure out this
    Thanks,
    Gustavo!

    Not a problem at all.
For Adobe Reader 9 to have use of Commentng & Review the open PDF must have been reader enabled by Acrobat Pro or LiveCycle ES.
New with Adobe Reader X is the built-in use of Highlight and Sticky Note (no reader enabled required).
    Be well...

  • Comment and Markup Toolbar in Full Screen Mode

I am not able to open comment and markup toolbar when I am reading a PDF in full screen mode. Can anybody help me in resolving this issue?
I want that toolbar should be visible. I do not want to use keyboard shortcut.
It works fine when the PDF is in normal mode(Not in full screen mode).
    Please help.
    Thanks,
    Ravi

Figured this one out myself. Apparently if you move your cursor to the top of the screen in full screen mode the toolbar drops down. Then there's a little lock symbol you can click to make it stay down. Basically it works like the launch bar on the desktop.
    Thanks self!

  • Commenting and Markup Toolbar in IE

We have created a PDF with Commenting set to Allowed. We then uploaded the PDF to a Windows Server 2003 host and put it through Pitstop. When the PDF is opened from the server in Internet Explorer, commenting is set to not allowed. When the file is saved to the desktop, commenting is also set to now allowed. Does anyone know how to allow commenting in this situation?
We are using Acrobat version 8.1.2 on Vista SP1. The PDF is created on Mac OSX from Creative Suite version 3.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

After some more searching I realised that the commenting toolbar is missing in the browser until you use the "Send for shared review" option.
To elaborate a bit further: It seems there are two options for making commenting possible in your PDF file.
Option 1 is to select the "Enable for commenting and analysis in reader" option. This will reader extend the file, making it possible for a user to add comments using Reader only. However, it still doesn't make the commenting toolbar available inside the browser, so the user would have to open the PDF, save to his local machine and edit it there.
Option 2 is to select the "Send for shared review" option. This option will take you through a short wizard to define where the shared file is stored (either on Acrobat.com or a local server). When this is done the new file (with shared commenting enabled) will open in the browser with the commenting toolbar available.
So to solve your problem (tjfoster) I'd guess you have to apply both options to your PDF - That would make the commenting toolbar available and will allow users to save the file inside Reader.
    Let me know what happens

  • Missing comments and notes fields for view columns

    Hello,
I am missing the comments and notes fields for view columns in the relational model of DM. For the table columns these fields are present, so it would be nice to make this available for views too. The Designer import should be adapted too to import those fields.
    Joop

    Hi Joop,
My question is about the import of Designer for those fields. This is still not solved, even not in rel 4.0
In fact even DM 3.3 imports comments, notes and comments in RDBMS from Designer repository.  Though comments and notes are not accessible through UI they are there and you can include them in custom report.
Comments and notes are accessible through UI in DM 4.0
