Retake Only Incorrect Quiz Questions?

Hi,
I have a 34 question graded quiz with 99 attempts. The student has to pass all the questions. Is there a way that the user can only retake the ones they did not pass? I have it set up for them to return to the start of the quiz to retake but always thought they had to retake the whole quiz. I don't see any other options and I see that it does "clear the quiz". I do see they get the green checkmark or X if incorrect. I just want to be sure before I report back that it can't be done.
Thanks very much.

Hi
There is no setting in Presenter which will hide the answer given to the correct questions  in case of multiple attempts of the quiz.
You have to retake the complete quiz again if you have failed once.
Thanks,

  • Retake only wrong answers in Quiz?

    Hi,
I have Captivate 4, and was  wondering if you can set the quiz to retake only the failed questions.
I have a 40 random question  quiz, with a pool of around 60 questions, and want the learner to  retake the questions they answered wrong only, not have to sit through  all 40 questions again. Is this possible?
If not, will it be possible  in the new Captivate 5?
    Thanks for your help.

thanks Lilybiri for the quick response, the problem is, the client will need to sit the quiz and then come back at a later date and change answers - i am getting the feeling that this is not going to be possible from the searching i have done on captivate but not sure if there is another way?  have you any more adivse?

  • Quiz Questions provide no selectable answers in HTML5 Publish

I am having issues with quizzing, whereas HTML5 format doesn't allow the user to select answers in quiz slides…
I am publishing a Captivate 7 project to two separate LMS' for beta testing purposes.
When I publish the project as HTML5 only, the quiz question appears as well as possible answers, but the form field does not appear, therefore rendering the user completely incapable of selecting an answer.
Publishing the same project as swf and HTML5 renders perfect results. (Quiz slide, selectable answers, and form field all show up and work)
    Any advice?

    I solved my own problem.
I had inserted a background image into each of the question master slides.
When looking at either the master slide or timeline slide, the slide would lokk good. All text and slide objects, including answers, would show up on the slide as they should.
However, once published, the background image would cover the form fields used to select correct answers. This not only prevented the user from selecting an answer, but also caused major issues with audio and CC tracks after the quiz.

  • Retake the quiz questions that got wrong answers

    Hi,
I psuedo-asked this before, but I'll ask it outright this
    time.
In using Captivate 3, is there any way to make the user take
the quiz a second time, but skip over the questions that they have
gotten correct, requiring them to redo only the questions they have
gotten wrong? Has anybody found a clever way to get around this?
Right now I can only redirect them to the beginning (with the
continue button) and have them retake the whole quiz.
Please let me know if there's a way around this, Thanks!

  • How do I only get certain questions appear in the quiz results?

I have created a course through Captivate 6, throughout the course there are questions to guage the learners attention. There is also a quiz at the end. However, captivate includes on the questions throughout the course on the quiz results which I do not want to happen.
Can anyone advise how I can only get certain questions appear on the quiz results please?

Branch aware turns off the playbar in 6 (not in 7 any more, at least not for me).
Could you explain more in detail what you want, because I don't understand it. You want the user to answer all questions, but the score should only show what? If you don't want some questions to have a score added to the Quiz total, you can indicate that in the Properties of that Question slide.
And please, tell the exact number (3 versions of 6), and also if you have to report to a LMS?

  • Customise the Retake button in Quiz

How can I make the learners to retake only the questions they have answered incorrectly after they select the retake button from the quiz result slide?

Since the Retake button clears all slides, this is not possible with the default quiz slides and their normal behavior. It is the only way to clear answers, but you cannot filter on correct/incorrect. With custom question slides it is possible, but that is a lot more work.

  • How to reveal correct answer in a quiz question

    Hello,
    I am using Captivate 5.5.
Is there a way to allow the user to view the correct answer to a quiz question without having to keep clicking on the different options until they select the right one? I want to allow infinite attempts but equally, if they are in a hurry or just run out of patience, I want the user to see what the actual answer is straight away. Our learners are medics and they often have limited time.
So the sequence could be something like this.
    1. User enters question page.
    2. Selects one answer. It is incorrect and retry message appears.
    3. User selects another answer. It is incorrect and retry message appears
    4. User decides that he/she wants to see the correct answer before moving on. Selects 'reveal answer' and is able to see what the correct answer is.
    5. User moves onto next slide (this could be another quiz question or any other type of slide
In another package I have been using, we can specify a 'reveal correct answer' button which shows the correct answer straight away. Is there something like that in Captivate?
    Thanks....

I think what you mean is that the quiz question's Failure action doesn't trigger until the final attempt and that would never happen if attempts is set to Infinite.  So if you were only incrementing the variable when the quiz question registered final failure then you'd only get one crack at incrementing the variable. yes.  My bad.
However, if you are using Multiple Choice questions, you can also trigger actions using the Advanced Answer Option.  This will trigger an action when a particular answer is selected.  So if you set this for each incorrect answer, you could increment the variable each time they select the wrong answer.
You can also use this same Advanced Answer action to execute a conditional action that first checks the value of the variable and then shows the rollover caption or increments the variable as needed.
Say you create a variable called WrongAnswer and initialise it with a value of 0.  Then you create a Conditional Action called CheckWrongAnswer that looks like this:
If WrongAnswer is equal to 1 assign Wrong Answer with 2, (then on the next line) Show RolloverCaption, ELSE assign Wrong Answer with 1.
This shows the rollover caption after the second attempt resulting in an incorrect answer.

  • Backwards Navigation When Reviewing Quiz Questions

I have discovered from some students that they can cheat on my quiz. They take the quiz, review their answers and make note of the correct answers, then either drag the navigation slider backwards or click the Back button to return to the beginning of the quiz. This resets their original answers and allows them to retake the quiz with the answers they took from their notes.
The quiz is set up to allow multiple attempts, but I assume they should be starting over with each attempt. My quiz questions are randomized from a test pool, so hopefully they do not see the same questions again and not in the same order. However, by cheating in this way, they can take the same questions in the same order.
Is there anyway to limit backwards movement when reviewing the quiz?
I have turned off backwards movement while they are taking the quiz, but this setting is turned off when they start reviewing the quiz.
    I am using Captivate 5.

Thanks for the information. Yes I have set the quiz up to allow users to review their answers. Yes I assume they will take notes on the answers, but I have not enabled the Retake Quiz button. Once they get to the results page and choose to review their answers, I assumed (incorrectly) that their answers would be locked and they would not be able to change the answers or results for their attempt.
My instructions tell them to relaunch the training, go through it again, and then take the quiz again. With the questions and answers being randomized, I was hoping that their notes (question 1 answer is B - question 2 answer is C - etc.) would not be very helpful to them and they would put effort into taking notes from the training to help them on the test instead.
    You said the following:
"If a user clicks the Review Quiz button after any attempt, they will be unable to perform a new attempt on that quiz until they relaunch the lesson again.  Also, if the user jumps outside the Quiz Scope by navigating back to any slide before the first scored object or quiz question, they will be unable to reattempt the quiz until relaunch."
I have tested this out, launching the training from the LMS, and it is not correct. I can go through the quiz, review my results, drag the slider or click the back button to the beginning of the quiz, and take the quiz again.
I have disabled backwards movement during the quiz, but once you start reviewing a quiz, backwards movement is once again enabled via the slider or back button.
I can hide the playbar and navigation controls, but when you get to the review, the navigation controls remain hidden and you cannot advance through the questions to see the results. I thought of adding a separate Forward button on the quiz question slides to allow the user to go forward as they review the slides, but you cannot add buttons or clickboxes to question slides.
I could certainly turn off the review functionality, but I think it is valuable information to the student. I need to allow them to retake the quiz, as my boss has set a very high bar (100% passing score) on the quiz.
Does anyone have any other ideas?
By the way, after typing up this response, I started doing some playing around, and I figured out a fix. I turn off the navigation controls before the quiz and enable the Skip button on each question slide. With the navigation off, the user can answer the questions and click Submit. Then when reviewing the answers, they can navigate forward by clicking Skip. They can no longer navigate backwards through the quiz and training material.

  • Lightbox using smartshape in Quiz question

    Hi,
I'm using one question/quiz slide and would like to create a lightbox to display different comments depending on what choice the user selects.
In the comment lightbox, I hope to allow the user to click a X image to close the lightbox.
The exisiting message boxes do not give the client a look they desire. Are there any other suggestions on alternative message boxes that overlay over the the quiz question?
    Please advise.
    Thank you!
    Susanne

You could use grouped objects that include Smart Shape buttons for the click to close the lightbox.
But you need to be aware that the ON Success or On Last Attempt events only fire in Quiz Questions AFTER the Submit button has been clicked and any feedback captions have appeared and been dismissed.  If you want your lightbox captions to appear after the submit button is clicked, you'll need to turn off the other feedback captions.
As far as having a different lightbox appear depending on which answer the user chooses, that's really only available for Multi-Choice quiz questions, no others (and not even multiple answer questions).  You need to use the Advanced Answer option event to trigger the appearance of the lightbox.

  • Is there a way I can randomize quiz questions in Adobe Captivate 6 on multiple attempts?

I am trying to find a way in Captivate 6 to randomize quiz questions out of a pool (i.e.; 50 random questions slides are linked to a pool containing 63 questions, I want to allow for 3 attempts).  Things work great witht he first attempt, but Captivate 6 is not generating new questions when I click the Retake Quiz button after failing the first attempt.  Captivate 6 simply gives the exact same 50 questions as the first attempt in the exact same order.  Is there any way around this issue in Captivate 6?  Thank you in advance for any suggestions you have!

Rod, just thinking out loud, and maybe this is too complex...
Could (generic) you insert multiple random-question-slides and then control which slide is viewed based on how many quiz attemps have been made?
    That is..
    Slide 1 - question 1a
    Slide 2 - question 1b
    Slide 3 - question 1c
On first attempt, go to slide 1, skip slide 2 and 3.  On second attempt, skip slide 1, go to slide 2, skip slide 3.  On third attempt, skip slides 1 and 2, go to slide 3.
Could you use the cpQuizInfoAttempts variable to control the slide order with an advanced action?

  • Issue with First Quiz Question

When I try to go back BEFORE answering the first quiz
question, when I move forward again to the first question, it tells
me that "You did not answer the question completely"and it will not
allow me to answer this question or any additional questions. (I
have set the option to use the BACK button in a quiz.) If I answer
the FIRST question, it allows me to go backwards on any additional
questions. Why can't I move backwards before I answer the first
question? Is there something I am missing?

As Mzedella said, my understanding is that backing out of the
quiz (going backwards past the first question) costs the user an
attempt, so if you've only allowed one attempt, the questions are
    considered not answered....
We have a mix of content and questions (not a single block of
quiz questions), and wanted to allow backward movement. We solved
this problem by making the first slide a question. That way, the
user is always in the quiz and they can move backward as much as
    they like.
If you can't think of a good question for the first slide
(often a question about their background knowledge is good), you
can always make it 'are you ready to begin?'. A little clumsy, but
you get the functionality you want.
We further required all questions to be answered, so users
can't skip ahead past unanswered questions. By removing the nav
bar, but including a menu (via skin), users can easily review the
material, but are still required to at least click through all the
slides. This works for our application, but you many want something
    different.

  • Quiz Question

I have a quiz question with multiple correct answers.  Do I have to create an "Incorrect Answer" on all of the various combinations that are not correct. Or can I have one "Not Correct" that affects all of the wrong answers?

Please, don't post your credentials like phone number on a public forum.
Do you want to change the Failure Caption just for this question slide? Double-click on it or use F2 and you will able to edit the text.
Could you please mention the version of Captivate you are using, Lisa?  Some features are different depending on the version.

  • Captivate 5: Quiz question timing

I created two quiz questions that have voice-over.  When the trainee answers the question and presses "y" or clicks anywhere, the module does not advance to the next screen.  It stays on the question slide for 41.9 seconds.  I tried to change the slide timing, but it just keeps reverting back to 41.9.  Does anyone know how I can change the timing or make the click/press work?

Good question.  The voice-over is 26 seconds long.
I just tried making two slides:  One with the voice over and one with just the question.  The question slide is still 41.9 seconds.  I'm beginning to think the time is tied to the length of the explanation when it is answered incorrectly.
I remember in previous versions of Captivate, the programmer had control over what happens when the trainee clicks the screen or types a letter.  I don't see that interaction anymore.

  • Multiple quiz questions

Does anyone know a quick way of putting more than one quiz
    question on a single slide?

    Hi Ailse,
Your idea of using masks is a good one. You're thinking like
    a true Captivate expert!
You could also try taking a screenshot of the questions on
each slide, cropping them to show only the interesting parts, then
inserting those images on your Question slides so it looks like the
other questions are all present on a single slide.
Only the actual Captivate question would be "live" on a given
slide and your images wouldn't reflect what the user answered on
previous slides, but it should be fairly convincing, especially
    given the circumstances.
If you want to go all out, temporarily change the font color
of each question to gray before taking your screenshot, and the
questions will appear "disabled" when you import them into
Captivate. This would give the user a reason why the "non-live"
questions are not working on a given slide.
    Regards,
    John

  • Interactive objects and quiz questions

    Hi everyone,
I know that you can't add interactive objects to quiz questions, so what is the best way to accomplish my need of placing a button that, when clicked, plays a short mp3 audio file to a quiz question?
Alternatively, if I am to replace my Captivate quiz questions with new custom slides, how can I replicate all of the multiple choice, etc question types? Are there widgets for these?
I appreciate the help! I was looking around for reference items speaking to this issue but couldn't find any.

    Hello,
On default question slides like on other slides, you can attach an audio clip to an object (even an object that is invisible to the user like a rectangle without a stroke and an fill with alpha=0%). The clip will play when the rectangle gets visible, but... you cannot put a button on a question slide. The only button that is possible is the static button widget but it has not the possibility to show/hide an object. You can attach the clip to the Success/Failure captions, eventually show/hide the invisible object with events like entering a slide, or Success/Failure actions but those events (appearing of captions, executing actions) cannot be controlled by a button.  If that is what you want, you need custom question slides. You didn't explain really at what moment you want to offer the audio, perhaps you do not need to give total control for playing by a button?
Several blog posts I created talk about creating custom question slides with or without the help of widgets. Here is one link that shows a list of the articles/posts with widgets:
    Widgets and Custom Questions
Not all question types are possible: if you want drag&drop functionalities I recommend the Drag&Drop widgets of InfoSemantics. Have a look here:
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/dragdrop/whichwidget
Another problem is the reporting of custom question slides. I already published two posts about that subject on my blog as well.
