Retina Mac Reverting to Blue Wallpaper

I've Google to no end and the bottom line turns out to be reformat. I've tried editing the symbolic link, renaming the wallpaper in the system folder, etc. but upon reboot no matter what wallpaper I change it to, it reverts to just plain blue. The last thing I did on it before this problem occured was full screen iTunes and set my own wallpaper from within safari (right click Use as desktop Picture). The full screen iTunes bit may be the culprit upon a google result I found. Does anyone know a definiative solution to this issue? Just google '10.7.4 wallpaper' to see the countless others with this issue.

Managed to solve this by deleting two system files and rebooting. I made a script here:
echo "This will erase com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile in ~/Library/Preferences"
echo "Please enter your root password:"
su
cd ~/Library/Preferences
rm com.apple.desktop.plist
rm com.apple.desktop.plist.lockfile
echo "Files deleted successfully, please reboot"
Just put this in text edit then save as FixWallpaper.sh, then double click it. You can re-run it if it reoccurs.
A temporary fix is to do a "killall Dock" as well.

  • How to recover classic Aqua Blue wallpaper after Lion clean install?

When I did a clean install of Lion I lost my lovely classic Aqua Blue (originally Tiger?) wallpaper.
An upgrade on a different Mac kept my original wallpaper.
How do I download and install that simple Aqua Blue one?
    Thanks.

Try this:  (1) On your Mac mount the disk in the Time Capsule (probably called "Data").  (2) In the "Data" volume locate and mount the "sparsebundle" image that contains the "old" backups.  (3) Click-and-hold on the Time Machine icon in the Dock, then choose from the pop-up menu the option to "Browse Other Time Machine Disks".  That should give you access to the old files.

  • Anyone using a Yamakasi Catleap 2703 Monitor with a Retina Mac Book Pro?

    Hi,
Anyone using a Yamakasi Catleap 2703 Monitor with a Retina Mac Book Pro?  If so, is it working well and would you do it again?  Is it compatible with the Apple dual DVI cable?
    Thanks,
    Alan

I just got a Yamakasi precision 2703.  I'm using it with a 13" macbook pro (non retina).  I got it working with a thunderbolt / minidisplayport to dual link DVI adapter from monoprice for $~70.  At first I didn't think it was going to work, plugged it in, turned on the display, nothing happened.  I unplugged, plugged the USB cable back in and the monitor came to life.  Working great so far.  I bought mine from green-sum on ebay.  The recommend not using this monitor with apple computers due to overheating issues... I don't see why that would be the case, though.  I've only been running it for a couple days, but so far no issues, and I've been happy with the monitor, no dead pixels, no bleed in the corners.
The monitor stand on the 2703 isn't too bad, a little wobbly but not as bad as the others from what I've read.  The monitor does sit a little low, though.  I have a much sturdier stand coming from monoprice for $20+shipping, which will provide tons of adjustment, both height and rotation.
    Good luck!

  • Setting preview images for retina mac book pro?

I love the new retina mac book pro.
I have set the screen size to a higher resolution howver I was hoping that when I press spacebar to preview my images in finder that I can enlarge to a certain size. Most of the images are very small, and I have to drag manually to the right size even though it is slightly blurred.
Is there a script I can add so that the window size is set at a certain size so theres no relation to the actual pixel?

    Hello Shashank
What patchlevel of the 7.30 gui are you using?
Please try the latest hotfix 1 of patch 8.
If you drag the resize icon (Bottom right of the saplogon) does the screen display correctly?
Remember, the saplogon is designed for a minimal screensize of 800x600 which is still
    used.

  • Does anyone have an example of an InDesign screenshot on retina Mac?

I would like to know what InDesign looks like on a retina Mac. Unfortunately I do not live anywhere near a retailer who sells Macs.

You might want to wait until Adobe updates their product.
Why don't you ask this question on the Adobe forums instead?
Other factors you need to consider is now Apple is on a annual OS X upgrade cycle and the future of what OS X will look like is certainly in question as 10.7 and 10.8 introduced a LOT of radical changes, features like Save As...Spaces, scroll bars...removed etc. etc.
OS X is currently in a state of flux, we don't know why they are doing this, assuming it's new hardware coming of a touchscreen nature for consumers, but it's creating problems for the Mac pro segment who need stability.
You might want to look at a Windows 7 tower with a nice UltraSharp display, Windows 7 will be supported just like it is with no changes until 2020, that's 8 years verses annual third party software upgrades (paid) and no possible hardware driver upgrades for expensive third party equiptment.
With Apple on a tear to change OS X and hardware, we don't have a clue what's coming, it's been rather unsettling for the pro market all the way from the Final Cut Pro X debacle to graphic designers who can't afford to replace all their software/hardware so frequently to those who have PPC based apps they require or have lots of file in, and the developers decided to bail since Apple is signaling a closed hardware like on iPads with 10.7+'s AppStore (30% cut to Apple) etc.
Apple doesn't sell new hardware with a older operating system, we get people here all the time wanting to install Snow Leopard on their new machines and they can't, so we send them to a hack to try to run it in a virtual machine in desperation attempt.
Apple is a consumer products company where they make most of their revenue at and many professional users are reconsidering their options now due to all the rapid  chaos and changes.

  • My new 13' retina mac book always fails about the keyboard! Is something wrong with the hardware?

I have bought the newest 13' retina mac book. But the keyboard failed 3 times the first day!! I was really upset about that. Some discussions on the website show chrome may be the problem. But after I unstall the chrome, the problem still exists. And it has failed about 6 times till now.
    What should I do?
    Thanks

You should return it for a full refund until Apple fixes this issue. It could be a week or a month before apple has a fix.

  • Retina mac book pro and Final Cut Pro x

retina mac book pro and Final Cut Pro x is crashing when I use any keying filter. It doesn't should color wheels or grey scale sliders and when I click where they should be they crash. Any ideas?

I actually trashed the prefs three times before I reinstalled the whole app. Here is the screen shot. Notice under color selection sub menu no color wheel. Everytime I click in that general area, it crashes.

  • Whenever Retina Mac Book Pro runs HOT - FCPx runs NOT - And it does so A LOT

These past weeks I have been doing more and more work on the Retina Mac Book Pro. Only thing that has been bugging me is that I cannot seem to rely on its performance. At times FCPx is blazing fast and others so slow that one could think I was running it on an iMac from 1998.
Once it gets slow... It will take about 5 seconds for a clip that I select in the event browser to appear in the viewer. And i.e clicking the inspector will take about 4-8 seconds for it to open...
    So I decided to troubleshoot.
Basically it is VERY simple.. Whenever the fans start churning on the Retina Mac Book Pro, the whole app simply quits performing. Shutting down the computer for about 10 minutes will alleviate the problem. Other strange thing is that no other app seems to be affected by this issue. PPRO, AE, Photoshop, Aperture, Safari etc etc etc... Only FPCx and Motion. I have not experienced this problem on any of my Mac Pros.
Problem is that the fans start spinning like crazy only after 10 min. of working in FCPx. And that with Proxy Media.
I have been noticing that people on newer (Thinner) iMacs are complaining over performance issue and wonder whether those might be heat related as well.
If anyone else are experience such issues, I sure would like to hear about it. And if anyone has suggestions to a possible workaround I too would love to hear about it as this is killing my workflow !
    Thanks

me no engineer ... ahh, you did know that!
    but …
Aren't FCPX + M5 the apps in your list which rely most on the graphic card? I'm not familiar with Grand Central and other OS-designs, nor can i confirm a built-in heat-sensor for that part of the Mac, there are sensors erverywhere - why not?  …
But if I had designed the graphic-card as co-processor, this would be essentiell.
And your observation and conclusions make a lot of sense!

  • Print design and retina mac laptop screen resolution?

print designer here considering buying a retina mac laptop but concerned about the screen resolution and 2x pixels that i keep on reading about. For preparing artwork for PRINTshould i continue preparing my images at 300dpi at 100@ of the final size? thanks so much, claudia.

There are only a couple choices. Either return the monitor for a brand name monitor that is Mac compatible, or use third-party software (DisplayConfigX or SwitchRes X) to make up for the Optiquest's display driver deficiency and configure the required 1280 x 1024 timing manually.

  • Blue wallpaper showing on 2012 Macbook Pro

I have a 2012 MacBook Pro 15" running the latest Mountain Lion software. Today, when I turned it on, the wallpaper was a blank blue colour (normally it uses a folder of my custom images). I had to go into system preferences to recheck the boxes. I then added another desktop, and that came up with a blank blue wallpaper, which I then had to go into system preferences to fix.
This has only happened after the latest mountain lion update, which makes me wonder if it is something to do with that.
Any help with either fixing the issue or any reseting that needs to be done would be verymuh appreciated

No, you'll have to contact Adobe if you want to upgrade to CS5.5. sig just gave you the link to teh Roaring Apps website that lists comapatible software for use with Lion and Mountain Lion. If I were you, I would just go ahead and update to CS6 - or begin using Adobe's Creative Cloud. Since I had purchased a qualifying product (CS6 Design and Web Premium) I was eligible to subscribe to Creatiev Cloud for only $30 per month. Even at $50 per month, it's a great deal - all of the Adobe software you'd ever need for about 1/3 or less of your cable bill.
Good luck - check out the free one month trial of Creatiev Cloud - http://www.adobe.com/products/creativecloud.html.

  • Retina mac 10.7.4 battery icon

Hi, the battery icon on my retina mac has no time display options... just % and batery icon.... i want the time back.... anyone know how to fix this?

Right for some reason that option, the Time Left option, is missing from the Retina model MBPs. It was reported here a few weeks ago.
That is just the way it is on that model.

My Retina Mac came with 10.8, how can I make a bootable copy of 10.8?

Do Internet recovery, download the installer, choose an external HD to install it to, when the comp restarts, disconnect the External HD before it turns back on.
Extract the Install.dmg and put it on your desktop, then use disk utility to install that onto your external HD.

  • Light Blue wallpaper always... I cant change it

I am getting this blank blue wallpaper and i dont know how to change it...I try to change it but it wont work, i dont know what to do.
    Thanks,

Your profile indicates that your OS is 10.8.1.  If that is the case, update to the current level, !0.8.2.  Perhaps that may solve the problem.
If that does not work, go in the user LIBRARY>PREFERENCES and trash 'com.apple.desktop.plist'.
    Ciao.
