Retrieving a "saved instrument"

Hi All,
im new to GB2 and can't find a way to retrieve settings when I manually adjust the parameters for a specific instrument's voice (reverb/amp sim settings, etc). I hit save, and it creates the saved voice in that particular track, but is there no way to retrieve this info in the Intrument files? Am I misunderstanding this function? Thanks for your input.

If you saved it as a preset, and named it something you remember, it should show up on the right side of the info window, and that set of effects would be available for any track that is of the same type.

You should be able to redownload the game without cost. However, the levels/scores are gone unless you have a backup in iCloud or on your computer. Some on-line games store the levels/scores on the game's servers, not on the iDevice.

Backing up Saved Instruments

How can I backup Saved Instruments, ie. custom instruments I've created in GarageBand? I want to open them up on another laptop. Thanks.

Save the local Instrument Library in the Library folder in your Home Folder:
You need to transfer this folder to your other mac:
~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
I MacOS X 10.9.1 you can open your user library from your Home folder, if you make it visible in the Finder's preferences:
Select the "Home" folder icon (the little house) in the Finder's sidebar and press the key combination ⌘J to open the view options. Enable "Show Library Folder".
Then open the Home folder and open the Library folder inside and navigate to
~/Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Instrument Library/
Copy this folder to your other Mac and add all files in the sub folders to the corresonding folders on your other mac.

You can use the quick copy option if you are using SAP version 9 and if lower you can use the copy express addon..

Use one of the selection tools to select the foreground
Place the selection on its own layer (Layer>New>Layer via copy or CTRL+J) - this will be Layer 1
Delete the background layer
If you want to save it, use a file format which supports transparency, e.g.PNG

I reinstalled my Snow Leopard and now I can't retrieve my saved passwords.

The save passwords option is no longer present in my toolbar. My old saved passwords are not there in Firefox preferences. Nothing I can find on the help site seems to help, including live chat. I did find the two files Firefox says are connected to saved passwords in the material I back-up before I re-installed my operating system. I dragged them to the corresponding location on my new hard drive, and that didn't do anything.

How to retrieve the saved parameters simply?

I'm programming for my machine with LabView. The machine has motorized stages. Each stage has quite a few positions (parameters), which needs to be saved in hard-disk. It's like non-volatile registers. When my program is running, from time to time, these parameters needs to be loaded or overwritten. Is there a quick and simple way to implement this?
Originally I was thinking the Global variables can solve this, but it turns out once I shut down the program, the value stored in the global variable gets reset. So global variable can't do this job.
Of course I can store all these values in a spreadsheet and write a sub-routine to parse the data inside this spreadsheet. But this will be pain of the neck since there are quite a few parameters. I'm wondering whether there is simpler solution.

You can develop you idea of using a global variable : save all the controls in a single operation.
How to do that ? Get the references to all controls on the global FP, then read and save all the corresponding values. This is a comfortable solution since you don't have to bother on the number/type of controls.
Of course, the reverse operations restore the saved values.

How do I retrieve my saved itunes from my ext. HD.

I can find them on my Ext.HD but I cant get them to transfer to my itunes library.

It depends what you have there.
If you saved a consolidated copy of your entire iTunes folder, you can just copy it back to your main drive.
If you saved individual files or folders, but not the library files, you can copy them to your main drive and then add them to your iTunes library using the command File > Add Folder to Library.

Ultrabeat - saving instruments

I have worked with Ultrabeat to create a tambourine that sounds right to me. Now, I wonder if there is a way to save that individual tambourine sound to use as an instrument whenever I want it.
Also, are Ultrabeat changes that one makes with one project only for that project or can one call them "universal"? I could see making a number of tambourine sounds that one could use to create a sequence that would sound like a tambourine shimmering in the air and then coming down for the beat. Since it seems that I canot save Ultrabeat sounds as a newly named Ultrabeat set, what is one to do to save a lot of Ultrabeat sequences as they are developed over time?

We can only hope that Apple solves this issue as well. But when you think about it, where do they begin with so many problems to address?
The Apples will need all the luck and coffee this side of the World. I don't even know what to expect from their ever so popular "update". I'm calling apple today, but they'll tell me the same thing they always say......which is not much.

Retrieving and saving previous worksheet versions

How can I save multiple versions of a worksheet when I have saved only the most recent? I can see the previous versions and pull up the earlier document. But it then replaces the current one.
Can more than one version be saved? Renaming doesn't work.

This is a feature that is part of Mac OS X and is incorporated into Numbers. You can disable this by unchecking the checkbox "Backup previous version when saving" in the Numbers preferences:
If you want to restore a previous version AND keep the most current version you should duplicate the current version, the restore a previous version.

Retrieve old saved emails after reinstalling OS X

I believed that I backed up everything but cannot find my old saved emails.
Where should I look to copy my old emails into my new boxes?

Is my GIZMO! OVERDRIVE (some call it the 'thumb drive') the USB stick you mentioned? I did use that to import/drag over the files and named the one folder that has them all in it: "mailboxes".....but when I try to open it, all the files are there but they all show up as empty icons and if I click on them (on this new laptop Pro Book), I get message that there's no default application to open them and asks me to choose an application. Wondering if all the files are there but that they will not appear until they go into the right place, using the process you describe. Wanted to check all of that before I try anything. Thanks again!

This is a tricky one as Apple changed the format of
Mail messages between 10.3 and 10.4. The original
format for Mail was UNIX MBOX but when people
upgraded to Tiger they were changed to single files
for SpotLight compatibility.
However the good news is that the new Mail can import
the old format so you need to somehow get your old
folder from the G4 (found in the location above -
drag the account name folder over), easiest with a
USB stick, on to the new machine.
Open Mail on Tiger and go to File, Import Mailboxes
and select (this is important) Other, then select
your old account folder to import the files. You may
have to select the actual Inbox.mbox for this to work
The Address Book files are in
<username>/Library/Application Support in a folder
called AddressBook - if you drag it to the same place
on the new machine it should be recognized and used.

I recently bought the Blackberry Curve 8310, and I tried to download an attachment from my email and it said it could not open it but I had the option to save it. I have saved it and now I have no idea where to go to find my file. I cannot find the file name when I use the search option. I have tried to create a folder and save the file there, but it does not give me the option. Please help!!!

Go to your media icon -- then press your menu (blackberry ) key - it is the one to the left of the trackball -- press EXPLORE - from there you can go to your media card or your device memory and find your saved item.
