Returning a nested table in a constructor function

Hi there is it possible to return a nested table in a Constructor Function or do I need to create a package?
I have this package spec it gives me an error
create or replace type
INTERFACE.PDE_BKRF_NTB
as table of
PDE_BKRF_TYP,
-- Define a constructor for REF_TYP_CD and REF_KEY to return a list.
constructor function
PDE_BKRF_TYP
(P_REF_TYP_CD varchar2
,P_REF_KEY number
,P_EXTR_DT date)
return SELF as result
/

No, a NESTED TABLE type can't have a constructor I think.
Check the documentation:
http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28286/statements_8001.htm#i2121881
It distinguishes between object type, varray type and nested table type. Only object types can have constructors.
As a workaround you could create another object type that has an attribute of your nested table type:
Note: untested code
create or replace type
INTERFACE.PDE_BKRF_NTB
as table of
PDE_BKRF_TYP;
create or replace type INTERFACE.PDE_BKRF_NTB_2
as object (
a INTERFACE.PDE_BKRF_NTB,
constructor function
PDE_BKRF_NTB_2
(P_REF_TYP_CD varchar2
,P_REF_KEY number
,P_EXTR_DT date)
return SELF as result)
create or replace type body INTERFACE.PDE_BKRF_NTB_2
as
constructor function
PDE_BKRF_NTB_2
(P_REF_TYP_CD varchar2
,P_REF_KEY number
,P_EXTR_DT date)
return SELF as result as

  • How do you "Instantiate" a Nested Table from within a FUNCTION?

    , I managed to compile and create the FUNCTION.
    But when I invoked it,
    ORA-06531: Reference to uninitialized collection
    ORA-06512: at "DEV.SPGETPARENTSTABLE", line ...
    I think I need to somehow *"Instantiate"* the Nested Table and I didn't:
    CREATE OR REPLACE FUNCTION spGetParentsTable
    ObjectId number,
    ObjectClassifier varchar2
    RETURN types.TmpHiearchyMapTableType
    IS
    TmpHierarchyMap types.TmpHiearchyMapTableType;
    ThisTempId varchar2(32);
    CURSOR spGetParents_cursor IS
    SELECT
    ReferencedId Id,
    ParentId,
    ChildId,
    FROM TMP_HIERARCHYMAP
    WHERE TmpUID = ThisTempId;
    BEGIN
    SELECT sys_guid() INTO ThisTempId FROM dual;
    spRecursiveGetParents(ObjectId, ObjectClassifier, ThisTempId);
    FOR oMap in spGetParents_cursor LOOP
    TmpHierarchyMap.Extend(); **** BUT I haven't "Instantiate" the Nested Table yet ****
    TmpHierarchyMap(TmpHierarchyMap.Count) := TmpHierarchyMapObjType( oMap.Id
    , oMap.ParentId
    , oMap.ChildId
    END LOOP;
    DELETE FROM TMP_HIERARCHYMAP WHERE TmpUID = ThisTempId;
    RETURN TmpHierarchyMap;
    END spGetParentsTable;

    It's annonyingly trivial to fix. In your declaration section try
        TmpHierarchyMap types.TmpHiearchyMapTableType :=  types.TmpHiearchyMapTableType();

  • Trinidad Nested Tables Collapse and Expand Functionality Change

    I am using JSF Trinidad 1.2 for JSF Implementation.
    I am using <tr:table> and f:facet's detailStamp component's of Trinidad to get Nested Table functionality. I have three tables i.e. table1, table2, table3. Each row of Table1 has nested Table2 and each row of Table2 has nested Table3. It seems that the collapse and Expand functionality of these component makes AJAX call to the server and fetches the relevant data.
    My requirement is to have data populated to all the three tables during initial Load and use clientSide Javascript function to collapse the Table2 and Table3 rows on initial Display. Once all the table1 rows are displayed, I should have collapse and expand at row level of Table1 that should make Table2 data visible and invisible on click using Javascript i.e. no server side call.
    I am not sure If I can disable the inbuilt AJAX calls on click to expand and collapse. If yes, how I can do that?
    Second Thing will be how I can populate my custom Javascript on those collapse and expand onclick event?
    Thanks In Advance

    Hi Suvidha,
    Thanks for the response, but in my scenario I have a viewset in component A and overview page in component B. I am using viewset as assignment block in component B where i need to change the title on Lazy and Direct mode. Method of IF_BSP_WD_HISTORY_STATE_DESCR for viewset does not work in this scenario.
    I am trying to get a method which get called on change of Lazy and Direct mode for an assignment block .

  • Need to return dynamic column names for a function returning nested table

    I am having a pl/sql function which is returning a nested table.
    For this i have defined an object which is having 4 attributes- 1 number type, 3 varchar2 type -p1,p2,p3.
    My function is taking input parameter v1,v2,v3 all of varchar2 type.Inside the function body,i am using these (v1,v2,v3) to filter data from an sql query and i am also
    using pivot function in this sql query.
    At the end my function is returning the object as defined in the starting .
    When i am excuting this function,thru select statement :
    select * from table(f1_test('A','B','C'));
    i am geting p1,p2,p3 as column name ,which are names used when i had defined object type.Instead i want column name to be dynamic (wotever i am passing in function as
    parameter while executing the function ,here A,B,C)
    Please help me in geting column names dynamic as passed in input parameter (i.e A,B,C for this case )
    Sample code for the problem:

    create or replace TYPE tt1 AS TABLE OF OBJ1;
    create or replace
    function f1_test (v1 varchar2,v2 varchar2,v3 varchar2)
    return tt1 as

  • Obtain info from nested table in function?

    Oracle9i 9.2.0.1.0/Windows 2000
    I'd like to obtain an ID from a nested table object in order to insert it into an ID field (outside the nested table I'm getting it from). I've got a function that lets me get a foreign key ID from one other table ('objtarget'); but it isn't nested:
    CREATE FUNCTION oeln.get_obj_id(
         obj_type IN oeln.objtarget.objecttarget%type
    RETURN oeln.objtarget.obj_id%type
    IS id_type oeln.objtarget.obj_id%type;
    BEGIN
    SELECT obj_id INTO id_type
    FROM oeln.objtarget
    WHERE oeln.objtarget.objecttarget = obj_type;
    RETURN(id_type);
    END;
    SELECT obj_id
    FROM oeln.objtarget
    WHERE obj_id = get_obj_id('');
    I'm getting compilation errors on functions to obtain ID's from nested tables instead. I've got the table 'opt' (includes the fields 'opt_id' & 'optics'). The 'optics' field in opt is of type o_tab(o_ty), including the field 'optinfo'. I'd like to get the opt_id out of the opt table, from input I obtain for the optinfo field: i.e.,
    SELECT opt_id
    FROM oeln.opt
    WHERE opt_id = get_opt_id('');
    In other words, I'd like to get opt_id from the opt table like I get obj_id from the objtarget table; but instead of looking it up by objecttarget I've got to look it up by optinfo, a field in a nested table object in the opt table itself. I've only gotten compilation errors on functions in order to do this. Is this an option?

    I guess ,here you were trying to put the content of the NT into another NT, or just trying to print it.

  • How to return a OCI Table * (nested table) from OCI application to sqlplus

    Hi,
    How to return a OCI Table * (nested table) from OCI application to sqlplus prompt : OCITAble * shows up as empty on the SQLPLUS prompt.
    The ODCIAggregateTerminate member function's OUT parameter is OCITable * returnValue. After completion of this member function it displays data on the sqlplus prompt.
    My problem is that eventhough my OCITable(returnvalue) has elements appended or added to it. But when I return the OCITAble after completion
    of this member function the OCITable shows up as empty collection on the SQLPLUS prompt. But in the OCI code if I iterate through the collection
    I can print out the elements and see their values or data.
    Can any one let me know how I can make the elements or data in the collection available at SQLPLUS prompt after the completion of this member function.
    If my return value or OUT parameter of this member function is OCINumber * returnValue : then I can see the corresponding value assigned in the OCI Code
    and the same value is returned and visible on the SQLPLUS prompt. But when I use the OUT parameter as OCITAble * : then it shows up as empty collection.

    > Can anyone pls let me know if there is some way to return an entire table from a function which
    is called from a stored procedure?
    For what purpose?
    Do you realise that this means pulling Megabytes (or even many Gugabytes) of data from disk, into the buffer cache, and then copying that data into PL/SQL memory (using a function) in order to give a stored proc that data?
    This is just plain crazy.. resource wise, performance wise, scalability wise.. this is exactly how NOT to use Oracle.
    Why don't you instead tell us what problem you want to solve. Forget for the moment what you think the solution should be. (and asking us how to get a potentially flawed solution, to work)
    Let's get an accurate problem definition so that we can provide you with suggestions and recommendation on what Oracle features can be used to address that problem.

  • How to return a entire table from a Function in Oracle?

    Can anyone pls let me know if there is some way to return an entire table from a function which is called from a stored procedure?
    Thanks

  • Function returning pl/sql table of dynamic structure

    Hi,
    I use oracle11g/windows platform.
    I have a requirement to be coded like this:
    A function to return pl/sql table(cant use ref cursor) whose columns varies everytime it runs i.e.,
    means
    type pl_tab_type is object(col1 varchar2(1000), col2 varchar2(1000))
    type pl_tab is table of pl_tab_type
    func f return pl_tab
    as
    end;
    note : pl_tab_type will vary for each run of function f
    i.e.,for example, pl_tab_type can be changd to as follows:
    type pl_tab_type is object(col1 varchar2(1000), col2 varchar2(1000),col3 varchar2(1000))
    how to return pl/sql table of dynamic type from func, thanks for help in advance.

  • Return Nested Table  Using Out Parameter

    Hi Friends,
    I wrote a function in which i'm using a return type as NUMBER and OUT parameter as TABLE but i'm not able to call the function in PL/SQL because of TABLE ,Can anyone plz tell me how to call the function in PL/sql using TABLE as OUT parameter. The calling function is mentioned below..
    FUNCTION get_label_to_folder (
    i_folder_id IN NUMBER,
    i_label_id IN NUMBER,
    i_new_path IN VARCHAR2,
    i_src_path IN VARCHAR2 DEFAULT NULL,
    --i_output_loc_type   IN       VARCHAR2,
    o_vdoc_table OUT vdocs_table
    RETURN NUMBER;
    I tried to call that function in this manner but it won't work--
    DECLARE
    TYPE vdocs_table IS TABLE OF VARCHAR2 (50);
    vdoc vdocs_array := vdocs_array ();
    vret VARCHAR2 (20);
    BEGIN
    vret :=
    sce_label_util.get_label_to_folder (32272,
    324073,
    '/test-aaaa/a1/',
    NULL,
    vdoc
    FOR i IN vdoc.FIRST .. vdoc.LAST
    LOOP
    DBMS_OUTPUT.put_line (vret || ' ,' || vdoc (i));
    END LOOP;
    END;
    Kindly check it and plz resolve the problem.
    Regards,
    Anand

    It is not the correct approach to do this (passing a collection using an OUT parameter) using a function.
    Does not matter whether you dislike it. It is still wrong.
    It should be a procedure. It should likely define the OUT parameter as being passed by reference and not value in order to decrease the call overheads and increase performance.
    Also note that is it not called a table. The correct terminology is a collection or an associative array. A table is something you get inside the database engine. The structure you define in the PL engine is nothing like a database table and everything like an array.
    PS. And how do you expect us to determine the error? How do you expect us to test anything if we do not know what Oracle version you are using? Please.. FULL details, including Oracle version number and the full Oracle error message!

  • When selecting a row from a view with a nested table I want just ONE entry returned

    Does a nested table in a view "EXPLODE" all values ALWAYS no matter the where clause for the nested table?
    I want to select ONE row from a view that has columns defined as TYPE which are PL/SQL TABLES OF other tables.
    when I specify a WHERE clause for my query it gives me the column "EXPLODED" with the values that mathc my WHERE clause at the end of the select.
    I dont want the "EXPLODED" nested table to show just the entry that matches my WHERE clause. Here is some more info:

    Can you explain what do you mean by the following?
    "PL/SQL tables (a.k.a. Index-by tables) cannot be used as the basis for columns and/or attributes"There are three kinds of collections:
    (NTB) Nested Tables
    (VAR) Varrying Arrays
    (IBT) Index-by Tables (the collection formerly known as "PL/SQL tables")
    NTB (and VAR) can be defined as persistent user defined data types, and can be used in table DDL (columns) and other user defined type specifications (attributes).
    SQL> CREATE TYPE my_ntb AS TABLE OF INTEGER;
    SQL> CREATE TABLE my_table ( id INTEGER PRIMARY KEY, ints my_ntb );
    SQL> CREATE TYPE my_object AS OBJECT ( id INTEGER, ints my_ntb );
    /IBT are declared inside stored procedures only and have slightly different syntax from NTB. Only variables in stored procedures can be based on IBT declarations.
    CREATE PROCEDURE my_proc IS
       TYPE my_ibt IS TABLE OF INTEGER INDEX BY BINARY_INTEGER;  -- now you see why they are called Index-by Tables
       my_ibt_var my_ibt;
    BEGIN
       NULL;
    END;That sums up the significant differences as it relates to how they are declared and where they can be referenced.
    How are they the same?
    NTB and VAR can also be (non-persistently) declared in stored procedures like IBTs.
    Why would you then ever use IBTs?
    IBTs are significantly easier to work with, since you don't have to instantiate or extend them as you do with NTB and VAR, or
    Many other highly valuable PL/SQL programs make use of them, so you have to keep your code integrated/consistent.
    There's a lot more to be said, but I think this answers the question posed by Sri.
