Reveal in Finder

I was wondering how to do Reveal in Finder action with scripting?
So far I can open folder, but would like to select that particular file as well.
if ($.os.indexOf("Win") != -1) {
     var cmd = "explorer " + String(path);
} else {
     var cmd = "open \"" + String(path) + "\"";
system.callSystem(cmd)
Thank you.

To add, the path links to file that is on desktop, or somewhere else:
path = "/Users/renderTom/Desktop/file.txt";
and I want to open Finder window and select that "file.txt".
Thank you.

  • How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame within iMovie11.  The suggestion I have found from earlier versions of iMovie does not create a jpg file that can be revealed in Finder. Help please.

    How do I create a photo in jpg or other photo format from a frame in iMovie. The previous suggestions on here do not create a jpg file when you chose reveal in finder when using iMovie11 and OS X

    First, get an app called MPEG Streamclip, which is free. (google MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5)
    Open MPEG Streamclip.
    In iMovie, select the clip you need. Then, right-click/Reveal in Finder.
    Drag this clip into MPEG Streamclip
    In MPEG Streamclip, move the playhead to the frame you want.
    In MPEG Streamclip, click FILE/EXPORT FRAME.
    Choose JPEG, TIFF, or PNG and give it a name.
    You can then drag this photo into iPhoto.
    Here is a video I made that steps through this...
    I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Reveal in Finder, doesn't work anymore

    Using iMac 27" 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7.
    Since I have upgrade to Mountain Lion 10.8.2 and iPhoto 9.4.1 and 9.4.2, using menu «Reveal in Finder» (original or modified photo) doesn't work anymore.
    This menu was working fine beforehand.
    Could it be related with the last upgraded version of Java (version 7, upgrade 9) ?
    Thanks for your advices.

    Make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
    1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
    2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
    Click to view full size
    3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
    NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
    NOTE 2:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Mac Spotlight Results: Right Click/Open With/Reveal in Finder?

    Hi,
    As many others, I am a heavy Spotlight user/searcher. I tried quite a bit around, but I seem not to be able to "right click" open with on the Spotlight search results (Spotlight used from the menubar). I can open search results, but that is most of the time not what I wish to do. More commonly, I would like to "Reveal in Finder" or "Open with" (i.e., opening a PDF in Photoshop or Acrobat, not Preview, depends on what needs to be done with it...).
    How can I get "right click" on search results enabled? Is there any way to enabled that? If not, how is your workflow to a) find files + b) do something else with them then open with default app?
    Thank you for your thoughts!
    (p.s. I know that I have the right click option if searching from a Finder window rather than then searching from the menubar, and that I can get the menubar Spotlight open as a Finder Spotlight search result set... however, the results in the Finder menubar are different, and much better, then the what is presented in Finder... so it would be much better to have the right click there)

    Thank you, that really helps!
    I tried Command + double click and that is exactly what I needed... you can "open with" from Finder then in a second step (one step more then would be logically required, I do hope Apple simply enables right clicks in search results in the next release)

  • Photos just imported are modified (Reveal in Finder) (9.2.2)

    Hi, i'm a french iPhoto user, I found a problem since the 9.2.2 update.
    When importing photo from any camera (iPhone 4S, Sony A700 or Canon 600D) in iPhoto, the option "Reveal in Finder" shows me "Modified" or "Original" but photos are just imported and I didn't apply any modifications.
    If I choose "original", it reveals the photo (2,3 MB) in my original folder (in my personnal pictures folder for example).
    But if I choose "modified", it reveals in the iPhoto library/Previews/2012/03/etc... but the photo is exactly the same, it is not a preview, the size is the same (2,5 MB).
    In iPhoto preferences, I unticked the "Copy elements imported in Library" because I don't want this. Why do I have photos duplicated and shown as "modified" ??
    I don't understand this problem because it works fine when importing older photos.
    Can you help me please, do you have this kind of problem ??

    Are the photos in the portrait orientation?  If so when imported the camera adds a rotation tag to the file and iPhoto reads it and makes an edited version that is rotated so it can be viewed properly.  I'm guessing that's what's happening to your photos.
    You can avoid that by turning off the auto rotation feature in the camera (except iPhones), uploading to a folder on the Desktop and rotate those photos that need rotation with a 3rd party editor like Xee which can do lossless rotation. Then import into iPhoto and there will be no modified photos.

  • "Reveal in Finder" Disappeared

    About 2 weeks or so ago my "Reveal in Finder" in my right click menu disappeared, does anyone know how to get it back? I am on a MacBook Pro running 10.6.8 all up to date.

    I used to use it in text edit and active emails in Entourage to reveal paths to files on the server.  I use the "CopyPath" program and send paths to people and they send them to me, when you right click on live text in any application really (because it is a part of Mac OSX) there is typically a reveal button that reveals the file in finder, only mine has disappeared...

  • "reveal in finder" never works

    Many tools (e.g. Dock) provide a "reveal in finder" command. However, it only works if the enclosing folder is already open. Otherwise it only opens that folder. Thus you have to do "reveal in finder" twice.
    It's a little thing but irritating!

    Hi Lawrence!
    I'm not quite sure I understand your issue.
    Here is how the Show In Finder feature, is supposed to function.
    Click and hold, or Control click, on any item in the Dock.
    Select Show In Finder.
    The folder that contains the item will open.
    The item will be highlighted, and in view.
    If you wish to view the location of an applications, the Applications folder will open.
    If you wish to view the location of a utility, the Utilities folder will open.
    If you wish to view the location of folders, you have placed in the Dock, the folder where they are stored will be displayed.
    Is this not how it functions for you?

  • Reveal in Finder...simple request.

    Just looked at the Links panel in AI CS5. Clicked on a linked png image and opened the fly-out menu. There is a Reveal in Bridge, but no Reveal in Finder command. Must be an oversight. (I never use Bridge in these situations because I am much more familiar with the Finder.)

    YES PLEASE!
    It's been five years sine this comment was made and we still don't have this feature. It seems like I spend whole days tracking down placed images, as our designer workflows shift between different Macs and servers. As a full-time journeyman Illustrator user for 28 years, here's what I would be supremely useful:
    1. "Reveal in Finder" item in the Links palette
    2. "Copy link file name" in links palette
    3. Relative links rather than absolute links, so we don't have to keep relinking to identical sub folder arrangements just because the Master HD name is different.

  • Reveal in finder not working

    Hi and thanks for reading. This isn't a big issue but I couldn't find any info anywhere on this. I noticed in 5.5 when I click on a clip and try to get it to reveal in Finder nothing happens...I believe it did work when I first installed it but I can't be sure at this point. However the reveal in Bridge works and finds the file. I thought things would fix itself when I did a clean install of Mountain Lion and then installed CS6 but the issue is still there. I find it more convienent to see it in Finder then Bridge especially having to wait for Bridge to open. Does anyone have any ideas why reveal in Finder is not working for me? If it matter I did some rearranging of the Adobe apps...I have the Production Suite...I moved them all from the Applications folder to an Adobe sub folder in the Apps folder. I don't know why Adobe spreads them all out like that. Thanks for any help on this.

    There is a major bug in OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 which prevents "Reveal in Finder" (Open in Finder) from working in a variety of applications. The workaround: when it happens run the following in Terminal:
    sudo killall -KILL appleeventsd
    or, alternatively, quit appleeventsd in Activity Monitor.
    Perhaps your issue is related to this.

  • "Reveal in finder" as contextual menu

    I would like a CM in iPhoto 9.1.5 (10.7.1) that offers "Reveal in Finder". Modified version is fine, or a drop down offering Original, also.
    Yes I know it's in the File menu
    I expect this will be done in Auomator. I'm not that good at that, but will try. Thanks for any help.

    Not sure that's possible. I had a quick look in Automator and there is no actions there that will do a 'Reveal In Finder' that I could see.

  • Automator: How to reveal multiple Finder items in 1 Finder window?

    Just as the subject states. How do I use Automator to reveal multiple Finder items in a single Finder window?
    Thanks in advance!

    Allow me to also briefly explain what I'm trying to do. For some reason Spotlight does not index the Library folder by default. I'm trying to create a workflow app which allows me to do this at will.
    So far upon experimenting I can get it to kind of work with the following actions...
    Text > Ask for Text (as in "What would you like to search for in the Library folder?")
    Utilities > Spotlight (executes the search based on the input from the first action)
    Files & Folders > Reveal Finder Items (reveals the results of the search, but in a separate Finder window for each result)
    My goal is to aggregate the results and display them in a single Finder window if possible.
    Thanks

  • Show in finder/reveal in finder Problems

    I recently had to wipe my computer clean. Luckily, I back up my iPhoto library, so everything was fine when it was time reinstall things. However, I notice that if I right click on a file, the "Reveal original in finder" option is greyed-out. Why is this? Before, I could always use the "show in finder" option.

    "Show Original File" will be disabled if there is no Modified version of the picture. This suggests that when you restored your Library, all pictures were imported as Originals. Can you tell if you have your old original versions or your edited version showing up in the Library? Or do you have one separate file for each version now since the reinstall?
    Either way, you should still have the "Show File" option, which will show you where your photos are stored in the Finder.

  • Unhidden files are not revealed in Finder search

    When I use the Finder "Search" window, my Library folder, System folder and folders therein are not revealed, even though I can manually locate them though the Finder's tree. As far as I can tell, these files are not hidden and do not have special security settings. They do not show up in Spotlight either. What in the world is going on? I never had these problems with older versions of OS X.
    Thanks to anyone who can assist!

    Spotlight doesn't normally show files from those folders because those folders do not contain files that should normally be accessed directly. Rather than clutter the search results, system files are suppressed unless you specifically ask for them. Do that by including a criterion in your search to 'include system files'. You might have to add that option to the search criterion pop-up by choosing "Other...". Check "System Files" and then choose "Include".

  • Should be able to back all files up without having to reveal in finder first

    Bridge is supposed to supplant the "finder" right?

    If you can't remember the passcode then you won't be able to back it up.
    You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad via your computer's iTunes and restore to your last backup or resync your content to it.

  • How to Reveal in Finder or simply Open the folder on Mac

    I'm sure this is possible but I feel you need to know more about shell commands on a mac than I do!
    so can anyone fill in the blanks?
    on revealfile filename
      if the platform contains "win" then
        err= bashell("open","explorer.exe",  "/select, " & filename, "", "normal")
      else
      end if
      return err
    end
    on openfolder foldername
      if the platform contains "win" then
        err= baShell( "open", plat(getosdirectory() & ":explorer.exe"), foldername, "", "normal" )
      else
      end if
      return err
    end
    many thanks

    for the record, that daft line about put baactivewindow() doesn't work - but this does
    on revealfile filename
    if the platform contains "mac" then
        foldername=getfolder(filename) --anyone wanting to use this, you have to write a 'getfolder from filename' handler for this to work
        sendkeys=getfilename(filename) --you have to write a 'getfilename from filename' handler for this to work
        open foldername with "finder.app"
        result=baWaitForWindow(baActiveWindow(),"Active",300)
        result=basendkeys(sendkeys)
      else
        err= bashell("open","explorer.exe",  "/select, " & filename, "", "normal")
      end if
      return err
    end
