Reverse engineering Oracle DB using JDeveloper

I am trying to reverse engineer an Oracle 10g db using version 11g Release 2 of JDeveloper.
I am receiving the following error:
Cannot drop index <name> which is used by constraint <name>.
The index and constraint it is referring to is the primary key. If I disable the primary key then it will make it through that table. It then fails on another table with the same error but I am unable to disable the primary key on that table as their are other foreign keys with references to it.
There are other tables that will work fine if I do a table at a time when creating the offline db.
Thanks!

Hello,
I have exactly the same problem! Any hints for a workaround?

  • HOW TO CREATE A NEW J2EE APP FOR DEPLOYING ORACLE REPORTS USING JDEVELOPER?

    Hi,
I'm new to JDeveloper and Java, JSP etc. I'm trying to deploy a sample parameter form for JSP report. My question is: When I create a J2EE application using JDeveloper, how to make sure "The WEB-INF directory must contain the JSP tag library for Oracle Reports, called reports_tld.jar"? How to do it via JDeveloper?
    In my JSP page, I use <%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/lib/reports_tld.jar" prefix="rw" %>.

Does anyone know the answer to this question?
I get the following error in Jdeveloper when running my test jsp report:
Error(8): Unable to load taghandler class: /WEB-INF/lib/reports_tld.jar
    Thanks.

  • Reverse-Engineer Java Code using JDeveloper

    Hi,
Is it possible to reverse-engineer java code and produce class diagrams in JDeveloper? If so , how?
    I have JDeveloper 10g.
    Thanks

    Yes you can.
Just open the java classes in a JDeveloper project, create a new class diagram and drag the classes onto the empty diagram.

  • CUSTOMIZED REVERSE ENGINEERING

    hi ,
    IN my Model
i want to get tables from a ms sql server with customized reverse engineering..i use a stanalone agent but i need to select a RKM..but it doesnt exist..
why i choose this method ?
because i couldn't find the directory : <WINDOWS USER HOME>AppData\Roaming\odi\oracledi\userlib (on windows server 2003 )where i need to copy the jdbs driver..but i could find the directory : ODI HOME\..\..\..\agent\drivers and copy the jdbs jar file..and test it ..it is ok..
Edited by: ozgunyergok on 07.Eyl.2011 01:04

i have already solved this problem. i reverse engineered the tables, but i can't see the data of them..
it says " The TCP/IP connection to the host localhost, port 1433 has failed. Error: "Connection refused: connect. Verify the connection properties, check that an instance of SQL Server is running on the host and accepting TCP/IP connections at the port, and that no firewall is blocking TCP connections to the port."
i can access and view tables's data from my ms sql server client..but i can't do it with ODI..i use the same connection properties...

  • JDeveloper capabilities for Reverse Engineering existing instances and data

We are experiencing difficulty obtaining the indexes, synonyms, and triggers via reverse-engineering capture of existing 10g DB's. Does JDeveloper have the capabilities for Reverse Engineering all objects from existing DB's ?
Will 10g JDeveloper handle reverse-engineering large 300 table schemas rich with large quantity of indexes, synonyms, & triggers?
And last, how can a listing of the Data Dictionary be extracted /exported in CSV or excel format for review distribution? Via JDeveloper? We have a large distributed development, test, quality, and integration team which prefers to review various elements of schema updates and changes in excel.
    Thanx.

    Vicki-
Thanks for the additional info. I was thinking you were most concerned with reverse-engineering existing schemas. I did not realize you were designing new schemas.
When you mention ERDs, are you interested in logical ERDs (as compared to physical tables and foreign keys)? If you are interested in doing pure logical ERD modelling, then Designer is the way to go. It has been years since I worked with Designer, but it has ooodles of capabilities to forward and reverse engineer between databases, physical models, and logical models of schemas. It sounds like you might be using Designer today and are hitting some snags. Is this the case? If so, I suggest you see if Oracle Support or the Designer forum can help you get past the specific Designer issues. The forum for Oracle Designer is here: Designer
Sue mention that JDeveloper does support database modelling. Here is a how-to for JDeveloper 11g that shows how it works:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/obe11jdev/11/db_dev/obe_%20databasedevmt.htm
The how-to is pretty complete showing you forward and reverse engineering capabilities.
    A few more minor notes:
1.The JDeveloper schema modelling features work on a physical (not logical) level. In other words, they work on tables not entities.
2.The SQL Developer report features certainly work on "DATA". But, the "DATA" they work on can certainly be the data dictionary data. In other words, I can write a report in SQL Developer that queries all of the column names, column data types for a subset of tables. Then I can export that "DATA" into excel and use it for whatever your downstream needs are. The potential capabilities are practically unlimited.

    Please help me

  • Using Designer to perform reverse engineering for Adabas entities

    Hi Experts,
Customer will migrate from Adabas to Oracle db. Is it possible to use designer to perform reverse engineering for entities of Adabas?
Thanks for your help in advance.
    Queenie

If there is an ODBC driver for Adabas, it MAY be possible, though I have never had an Adabas database to try it on. I know that Adabas isn't natively a relational database using SQL, which is what Designer's Design Capture utility expects, so it will work through ODBC or not at all.

  • Oracle reverse engineering.

    Hi,
One of the job requirement for oracle tuning is telling "GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ORACLE REVERSE ENGINEERING".
Can any one tell me what does the employer is looking when he mention reverse engineering.
I know er-win tool will do that but what exactly is doing I am not sure.......correct me If I am wrong.
    Thanks in advance.

One of the job requirement for oracle tuning is telling "GOOD KNOWLEDGE OF ORACLE REVERSE ENGINEERING".
i think this means to retrieve the structure of database from application prespective.I have used ERWIN tool for reverse engg.It will give all database parameters, tablespace,it's storage params, all users, therir profile, their table structure ,how these tables are linked etc.But i think reverse engg is little related to tunning.

There is no automatic way to do this in JDeveloper. I know there are some Oracle Partners offering forms to java conversion, I don't know how much of their tools are automated and done with JDeveloper. With JDeveloper+ADF you basically rewriting the Forms application from scratch (and using ADF is helpful during this process).

  • Application Development using Jdeveloper using Oracle Lite

    Hi all,
I need to develop an application that works with the oracle database lite technology.
Ritght now I am working on some 10 tables .The Scenario is like the application developed is deployed on the middle tier and the user downloads it and goes offline. And he uses the application offline with the same tables present (that are used in developing the application) in another database present on the user machine . I have gone through the ADF BC tutorials but I couldn’t figure out whether the business components (view objects, entity objects) that are created by using tables (connecting to a particular schema in the database) can work if the schema changes(coz I tried doing that and faced errors that connection to database couldn’t be established ). I think this might be because the schema has changed.
Does this Business components created work if the database schema changes?
Is it possible to develop an application using java swing that works on the oracle database lite? I need a standalone Windows 32 application to be developed.
    Thanks in advance

Let's assume you have two database schema USER1 and USER2
And let's assume that USER2 grants the appropriate privileges so that USER1 can see his tables.
If you connect as USER1 in JDeveloper and create an entity object based on a table USER2.SOMETABLE, then the SomeTable entity object will remember the USER2 schema name as part of the table name.
If instead if USER1 creates an entity object against a table in his own USER1 schema, then the entity object will only record the "TABLENAME" in the entity metadata, without a schema qualifier. In this case, if you connect to a different schema at runtime which still has the expected TABLENAME table in it, then it will work fine.
Generally you would want to use an entity based on a synonym instead of an entity based directly on a SCHEMANAME.TABLENAME so that it wouldn't matter if the schema changed.
Yes, you can build Swing, JSF, or JSP applications against Oracle Lite using ADF BC.
