Reverse engineering to produce .DDL script

Hi,
Does anybody know the best way to reverse engineer all the tables in a 9i account in order to replicate the .DDL script which would have been used to create the table definitions in the first place.
Also, does anybody know of the best way to similarly produce and ER diagram by reverse engineering either the database account, or the .DDL script which I will gain by acheiving the above.
Thanks in advance
Mark

This can help you a lot:
DBMS_METADATA
With DBMS_METADATA you can retrieve complete database object definitions (metadata) from the dictionary by specifying:
The type of object, for example, tables, indexes, or procedures
Optional selection criteria, such as owner or name
Parse items (attributes of the returned objects that are to be parsed and returned separately).
Optional transformations on the output. By default the output is represented in XML, but callers can specify transformations (into SQL DDL, for example), which are implemented by XSLT (Extensible Stylesheet Language Transformation) stylesheets stored in the database or externally.
DBMS_METADATA provides the following retrieval interfaces:
For programmatic use: OPEN, SET_FILTER, SET_COUNT, GET_QUERY, SET_PARSE_ITEM, ADD_TRANSFORM, SET_TRANSFORM_PARAM, FETCH_xxx and CLOSE retrieve multiple objects.
For use in SQL queries and for browsing: GET_XML and GET_DDL return metadata for a single named object. The GET_DEPENDENT_XML, GET_DEPENDENT_DDL, GET_GRANTED_XML, and GET_GRANTED_DDL interfaces return metadata for one or more dependent or granted objects.
This chapter discusses the following topics:

  • Data Modeler : Generate direct to a schema / Reverse engineering

    Hi everybody,
I searched for informations in the help but I didn't found any interesting information.
I would like to know :
    - If it's possible to generate the relation model directly to a schema? If yes, where can I found documentation?
    - Is it possible to create some scripts with reverse engineering (as Designer)?
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Cedric,
If it's possible to generate the relation model directly to a schema?no
Is it possible to create some scripts with reverse engineeringYou can generate DDL script for objects in relational and physical model - press "Generate DDL" icon when you are in relational model or use "File>Export>DDL File".
You also can generate "alter statements" when you compare relational model to database, DDL files or another design.
You can look at available demonstrations http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/datamodeler/overview/index.html

  • Unable to apply reverse engineering to dbf file

    Hello everyone,
We are new to ODI and struggling to understand whether we are making an error or we are actually facing an issue with a .dbf file.
    Some details for everyone:
    - ODI version: 10.1.3.4.0
    - Platform: Win Server 2003 sp2
    - File we wish to load: xyz.dbf, where xyz.dbf is one of the 3 output files (xyz.shp, xyz.shx, xyz.dbf) of an ESRI geographic information systems software
    - We are not interested in the other .shp and .shx files but just in the .dbf one: hence we are treating this one as a stand-alone .dbf file.
Given the above elements, we have executed the following:
    a. Created an ODBC entry using the "Microsoft dbase Driver for dbf files" vs. the relevant directory storing the .dbf file (as well as the .shp, .shx);
    b. Used Topology Manager --> "Dbase" technology to build the relevant Data Server, Physical Schema and Logical Schema.
--- Up to this point when we test the connectivity to the .dbf file we have absolutely NO problems. ---
We have then proceeded in Designer:
    c. Creating an appropriate Model vs. the Logical Schema introduced at point b.
    d. Attempting the reverse-engineering process.
At this point however the "reverse engineering" has not performed what expected, as
    1. it has correctly introduced in Designer a datastore corresponding to the desired .dbf file, but
    2. it has not created any columns at all for the datastore, without producing any error message.
Additionally, clicking on the datastore just created and selecting from it the "reverse" option in the "columns" tab, an error window is retrieved: "java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][ODBC dBase Driver]Invalid string or buffer length".
At this point we are struggling to understand how to proceed further: shall we use a different ODBC driver/is this an error un-related to the ODBC driver we used/shall we use a different technology in consideration of the fact this .dbf file is not a stand-alone one but comes with .shp and .shx as well/anything else?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi CTS,
First, thanks for your help - much appreciated.
However, we just tried to reverse the .dbf as you suggested using the custom reverse engineering via RKM SQL (Jython) module.
First two steps (1 - Reset Metadata, 2 - Create Jython Classes) worked OK, but third failed with the same error mentioned in the first thread:

    Hi,
Under the readme eRPI : http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/readme/erpi_1112200_readme.html
    I find this :
ODI Setup Steps to Integrate with Financial Management
To setup the ODI to integrate with Financial Management:
    Rename odiparams.bat located at <ODI_HOME>\oracledi\agent\bin to odiparams.bat.backup.
The default installation location is C:\app\Oracle\product\11.1.1\Oracle_ODI_1.
Download Oracle Data Integrator Companion CD 11.1.1.6.2.
Unzip the contents of the Companion CD to the temp directory.
    Unzip oracledi-agent-standalone.zip.
    Copy the contents to: <ODI_HOME>.
Make a backup of the HFMDriver.DLL.
For the 32 bit operating system, copy HFMDriver32_11.1.2.2.dll as HFMDriver.DLL.
For the 64bit operating system, copy HFMDriver64_11.1.2.2.dll as HFMDriver.DLL.
Rename odiparams.bat.backup from Step 1 to odiparams.
Edit the PATH to include: <ODI_HOME>\oracledi.sdk\lib
    Restart the ODI Agent.
I try this procedure, but now, I have a new error :
    - Unable to connect on "myhfmserver" with "admin" user
I think that, there is another step to do, because now HFM 11.1.2.2 use directly the "EPM Registry" (into Shared Services Schema) to retreive the HFM servers ou Clusters.
But I don't find any information, how to setup this part into ODI.
Or may be, we need to setup "Regedit Keys" into Windows registry like previous HFM release ?
If you have any news, please inform me

  • Reverse Engineering a Model

I am using SQL Data Modeller to reverse engineer an Oracle database to produce a diagram for a data model that was made a while back now. I created the diagram successfully and was very pleased with the results and the process.
However, since creating that initial diagram the data model has again changed and I would like the recent changes to be reflected in the relational model I created in SQL Data Modeller.
Is there an easy way to update the model? I click File > Import > Data Dictionary (which is the original method I used) I followed the steps and was presented with a list of changes and asked to merge into the model. This seemed fine. However the new tables were not added to the diagram and when I dragged them on to the diagram from the list of tables I was not shown the relationships?
How can I easily added these new tables to the model?
    Thanks, Mike

Check to see if the FKs between the tables you are referring to were captured in the reverses engineering. If they were, they would appear on the diagram when you drag in the new tables. If they were not captured, make sure they actually exisit in the database.
I beleive that in order to capture a FK in the reverse engineering you must select both tables to be captured. If you only selected the "new" table, I do not think the FKs will come in but rather only the table structure, PK, and indexes on that table.

    1) JDBC was installed properly or not
    2) and please let me know Driver and uRL are correct..
I want to know ..is this is JDBC Problem or Driver and url address problem.

  • ODI Reverse-Engineering Question

We've been using ODI 10.3.5.1 for about a year now. The current load process was set up for us during implementation of Hyperion Planning. We are now trying to add a new dimension to our hierarchy, and I mistakenly went in and added the columns manually to all the models I could think of. I also added the columns into the source and target datastores in the interfaces manually.
Naturally, the load did not work. I keep getting the error "invalid column name 'Cost_Center'. I have been told by the installer (over email) that i should have reverse-engineered the models, and let the program build all the datastores. I tried to do the reverse-engineering, and am now getting an error for the HYP_PLANNING model, and the HYP_ESSBASE model runs and runs and runs, without doing anything noticeable.
How long should a reversal run? I don't believe our hierarchy is extraordinarily huge.
This is all in the TEST environment right now, but I need to put things in LIVE for August financials, so I have until 9/9/09 to figure this stuff out. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick response.
Like I said, it was done by the consultant, so I don't even know what an agent is.
As for the error, it was:

    Dear Expert
    Still facing this problem.
I did several tests, changing flexfields in physical topology and the parameters of RKM.
But the result is always the same.
    What else could do.
    The doubt remains.
    Should be poss edit details.

  • Reverse engineering with Rational Rose

    Is anybody using the above?
If so, have you developed any scripts to facilitate updating the Rose model,
and which you'd be willing to share? Or perhaps discuss jointly writing
    same?
Ideally, there would be an Fscript to facilitate exposting Forte projects,
and a Rose script to facilitate import.
    TIA,
    Eric

    Eric,
As part of tool evaluation for modeling, We evaluated Rational Rose 98i . We
were able to import forte pex files into Rose model.
We had no problems with reverse engineering but there were problems related to
    round trip engineering.
Since Rational Rose 98i did not have a repository based solution for
configuration management, it was quite a task to keep the model in sync with
multiple users updating it. However, I believe you can use Microsoft Source
safe for configuration management though we did not try this.

  • Generate DDL script tailoring

I would like to know how to tailor the sql script generated by JDev
    (11.1.1.0.0) - offline database source).
I've reversed engineered a schema and modified a number of tables (in
10g). I would now want to generate a complete "create script", but
without any of the storage clause (so it can be ran in another schema in another tablespace, for example).
I would also like to tag on some tables a number of DML
statements. Could I add 'pre' or 'post' scripts attached to db objects/tables?
I would appreciate any help either on how to do it, or where I could
look to find more info on doing this.

  • UML modeling by reverse-engineering a JAVA project

I can't seem to get over a basic hurdle to get started with UML modeling. I open an existing JAVA project. I then start a new project and choose "UML" and "-Platform model by reverse-engineering a JAVA project". Next I give the UML project a name and try to open my existing JAVA project. But the wizard does not show any project!
    Appreciate your help.
    Phil

UML in JSE8 can reverse engineer all 4 built-in types of Java project defined in IDE. To prove that, I just downloaded apache ant source 1.6.5 from http://ant.apache.org/srcdownload.cgi and successfully reverse engineered it with JSE8.
If you have a project with existing ant script , it's extremely easy, you absolutely don't need to hand-create a java project from scratch to specify source, library dependency etc. Just follow the wizard "create a Java project with existing ant script" to specify your Java project location, the ant script location, and * don't forget * to specify the source location. Any project without source folder specified is not considered a valid candidate for Reverse Engineer, and you won't see it listed under the project chooser in UML wizard when trying to associate the current UML project with a Java project. Please right click to bring up your source project properties to verify if you have source package folder correctly spelled out.
It IS a supported feature, do let us know if you still have troubles to RE your project.

  • How to generate the DDL script of all the schema objects.

    Hi All,
I just wanted to make centralized repository for Oracle database and to create a base version, I need to create the DDL scripts of all the database objects so that i can check in the same ddl scripts (sql) files in to my central repository.
I need do this schedule job which will generate the ddl scripts once in a month(This should be automated process)
Please help me out about this.
    Oracle version - 9i
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks,
    Santosh

It is definitely possible to revise the script.
Look at it, you already have 80 percent of it for free, and you didn't even need to Google.
Just ask a FAQ in a forum loaded with FAQs!
And Toad can save everything to one script per object.

  • Unable to generate Logical Model Diagrams through Reverse Engineering

    Hi,
I am currently using SQL Developer Data Modeler Version-3.0.04.
I have generated Logical Model Diagrams from Relational Model Diagrams through Reverse Engineering (Done by pressing an" engineer to Logical Model button" on top panel of sql developer) .I saved the DMD file (source file) once i had done generating the logical diagrams. Now if i reopen the DMD and open the logical diagram again I found that most of the tables had lost their relationships. So i tried to regenerate the Logical Model Diagram again from the same Relational Diagram but it is not being generated unless i create a new Relational Diagram. Is there a way to generate multiple Logical Diagrams for the same Relational Diagram rather than creating a new one for each Logical Diagram to be created.
    Regards .
    Thanks in advance.

Any comments on this issue?. Please let us know.

  • Error in Reverse Engineering an XML file

I am tring to set up ODI to read and XML file and post it to a DB.
I am using Oracle Data Integrator 10.1.3.5
I have set up the Connection in the Topology Manager and when I ran the Test it returned OK.
I went to the Model tab in the Designer and tried to Reverse engineer the file. I followed the instruction int he User's Guide but I get an error:
The Technology or the Driver used doesn not support Reverse Engineering. The User's guide says you can do it, but Designer tells me I can't.
Has anyone received this error before and how can i get around it.
    I am using:
    com.sunopsis.jdbc.driver.xml.SnpsXmlDriver
as the JDBC Driver. THat is the one used in the guide and example.
    JDBC URL:
    jdbc:snps:xml?f=c:\OraHome_1\Oracledi\MercuryGate\MGTransImpTemplatev1.0.1.xml&re=MercuryGate&ro=true&case_sens=true&s=MercGate
    Any help will be appreciated.
