Reverse Proxy for SharePoint 2013
Hi,
I need to setup SharePoint 2013 environment which needs to be accessible from mobile devices e.g. iPAD/Android, for reverse proxy, I am looking at apache or IIS ARR since UAG is going to be deprecated. So far any one setup apache (on
RHEL 6.x)
or IIS ARR(on W2K8R2) successfully as reverse proxy for SharePoint 2013 access? Is there any issue? and which SharePoint authentication method should be configured?
Must is be Form based authentication? As I read some articles it seems ARR supports Windows authentication. Thanks in advance.
IIS ARR doesn't authenticate users, it is a pass-through (unlike UAG which can do auth or anon). Both IIS AAR and the new Web Proxy Role in Server 2012 R2 do not work with SharePoint 2013 Apps.

Issues using IIS 8.5 with ARR 3.0 as Reverse Proxy for Lync 2013
Dear reader, after searching for a day without finding a solution to my problem I end up here ;-)
Working Lync 2013 environment (gradually adding functionality) consisting of 2 FE servers, Persistent Chat Server, Web Apps server, Edge Server, Reverse Proxy Server (IIS 8.5/ARR 3.0), SQL Server.
Set up a fresh Windows 2012 R2 with IIS 8.5, installed ARR 3.0 and followed along this
TechNet article.
So far so good, external clients (incl. mobile phone apps) can all connect.
Now trying to add Web Apps to the reverse proxy, which is slightly different from the others by not forwarding 80/8080 and 443/4443, but just 80 and 443 to internal Web Apps server.
After creating the server farm/URL rewrite, browsing to the webapps.FQDN/hosting/discovery ends up with a 404 error (instead of XML, which is shown when try from the LAN).
After moving this rewrite rule to the top, it started working, but now my lyncdiscover.FQDN stops working.
Ofcourse moving the webapps rule down restores the lyncdiscover.
Any ideas? (everything setup as described in above mentioned TechNet article, so using wildcards. Tried fiddling around with webext.* and lyncdiscover.* and so, but no luck. (I'm completely new to ARR)
Thanks,
BarryCan you confirm that for each URL Rewrite Rule, you have an {http_host} record that matches something like webext.* as you referenced above and as seen in step 15 here:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/nexthop/archive/2013/02/19/using-iis-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy-for-lync-server-2013.aspx
It might help if you posted a screenshot of your URL rewrite rules.

I recently integrated Apache as ReverseProxy for SharePoint 2010. When accessing the SharePoint application via the reverse proxy url e.g. http://<reverse-proxy-url>/SitePages/Home.aspx the images/css and JavaScript files does not comeup

URL rewrite now working for SharePoint 2013 result page
Hi,
I have configured reverse proxy using URL Rewrite (ARR), all works fine but the rule is not processing for SharePoint 2013 result page. It still shows internal domain name and not external domain name.
this is my web.config in internet web server
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<configuration>
<system.webServer>
<rewrite>
<outboundRules>
<rule name="ReverseProxyOutboundRule1" preCondition="ResponseIsHtml1">
<match filterByTags="A, Area, Base, Form, Frame, Head, IFrame, Img, Input, Link, Script" pattern="^http(s)?://dsplsp2013/(.*)" />
<action type="Rewrite" value="http{R:1}://uncep/{R:2}" />
</rule>
<preConditions>
<preCondition name="ResponseIsHtml1">
<add input="{RESPONSE_CONTENT_TYPE}" pattern="^text/html" />
</preCondition>
</preConditions>
</outboundRules>
<rules>
<rule name="ReverseProxyInboundRule1" stopProcessing="true">
<match url="(.*)" />
<action type="Rewrite" url="http://dsplsp2013/{R:1}" />
<serverVariables>
<set name="HTTP_ACCEPT_ENCODING" value="" />
</serverVariables>
</rule>
</rules>
</rewrite>
<urlCompression doStaticCompression="false" />
</system.webServer>
</configuration>
Thanks
Hari
HariHi,
According to your post, my understanding is that the rule was not processing for SharePoint 2013 result page.
Please make sure you add the reverse rewriting rule correctly.
For more information, you can refer to:

SJSWS7 Reverse Proxy and SharePoint
Hi,
Is it possible to reverse proxy a SharePoint/WSS application through SJSWS7 Reverse Proxy?
Are there any issues in doing so? How do we take care the NTLM authentication?
Any pointers greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Esselle
Note: Apologies if this had been already answered in this forum. I tried to run a search but did not find any topics.Yes, share point can be the origin server and I don't think there is any specific setting that needs to be done within reverse proxy for this. Just treat this as regular origin server and follow our reverse proxy docs or blogs and that is all I believe it should take.
However, we do not (yet) support NTLM authentication in reverse proxy mode . However, we do support Kerberos within web server 7 and that hopefully should allow u to authenticate in the web server 7 land. however,
I have filed a bug to track this issue (reverse proxy + NTLM authentication)

SQL 2012 AlwaysON High Availability for SharePoint 2013
Our Company have 2 Webfront Servers for Sharepoint 2013 and one Database SQL 2012 Server.
We got one more Server & we don't have Storage so need to configure Always On.
There are Some Confusions:
1- Database Server is in production, so how much down time required to Achieve the AlwaysOn?
2- What are the Changes need to be done on Production Server?
3- What are the Steps to be followed While Configuring new Database Server?
Regards,Hi Genius1985,
According to your description, you want to configure a SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn Availability Group for your database, right?
Question 1: Database Server is in production, so how much down time required to achieve the AlwaysOn?
There is no a certain downtime for AlwaysOn, it depends on the configuration of our AlwaysOn Availability Group, normally it can be several seconds or minutes. In order to understand why there is downtime for SQL Server with Microsoft Clustering, please refer
to the following article:
http://www.mssqltips.com/sqlservertip/1882/understanding-why-there-is-still-downtime-for-sql-server-with-microsoft-clustering/
Question 2 and 3: What are the Changes need to be done on Production Server? What are the Steps to be followed While Configuring new Database Server?
Since AlwaysOn Availability Groups require a Windows Server Failover Cluster, we first need to add the Windows Failover Cluster Feature to all the machines running the SQL Server instances that we will configure as replicas.
Once the Windows Server Failover Cluster has been created, we need to proceed with enabling the AlwaysOn Availability Groups feature in SQL Server 2012. This needs to be done on all of the SQL Server instances that we will configure as replicas in our
Availability Group.
For more details about Step-By-Step: Creating a SQL Server 2012 AlwaysOn Availability Group, please refer to the following article:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/canitpro/archive/2013/08/20/step-by-step-creating-a-sql-server-2012-alwayson-availability-group.aspx

it. They seem to think that the likely date for release will be Q2 2014, Hope this helps, it will be too late for us and we probably won't run our intranet bilingually as a result. -
Development environment for SharePoint 2013
Hi,
We have requirement for one of the project. Team size would be approximately 30 resources. Development would be entirely for SharePoint 2013 Intranet solution. this will be OOTB Intranet application. We will be developing InfoPath forms and Nintex Workflows.
For such requirement we would like to setup local development environment by using either Virtual Machines.
Can anyone help me to identify that how many VM's would be required for the same? How many simultaneous users can use and work at a time? What other things I need to consider for infrastructure? How can i suggest the best possible solution for this.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I would like to construct a 2 level megamenu for sharepoint 2013 on a page, using out of the box features along with scripts, but not visual studio at all. Is it possible ? Can any one please help me, if they have prior experience in this.
Many thanks for your response !
RegardsHi Prajik
This can be done using Out of the Box Navigation and with little tweaking in Jquery
http://www.nothingbutsharepoint.com/2013/03/19/how-to-achieve-a-mega-menu-using-out-of-the-box-navigation-in-sharepoint-2013-and-jquery-aspx/
If you don't want to use out of the box navigation then you can insert megamenu html into your custom master page

Office Web Apps Load Balancing Configuration Issue for SharePoint 2013
I have load balanced servers dedicated for Office Web Apps with name “md1xxxwfe1” and “md1xxxwfe2”
, both this servers are load balanced by CISCO Load balancer. And I have mapped Load Balancer Virutal IP with host name officeapps.jda.corp.local in the DNS records.
Things are working fine if I add new farm by using New-OfficeWebAppsFarm
with server name as internalurl in PowerShell console
as like “ -internalurl http://
md1xxxwfe1 but when I use –internalurl officeapps.jda.corp.local it is not working at all. I’m not getting what to do at this point.
I have gone through following blogs but no luck.

http://sps2013.blogspot.in/2013/09/office-web-apps-with-sharepoint-2013.html
The output of the wfe1 server is attached with this. When I open http:// /hosting/discovery in wfe1 I’m getting following result (attached
screenshot) but it should show hostname rather than server name.
Please help me
Thanks, Ram ChHi Ram ,
For troubleshooting your issue, please take steps as below:
Just about any load balancing solution will work, including a server that runs the Web Server (IIS) role running Application Request Routing (ARR):Install
Application Request Routing
Install the certificate on the load balancer as described under Securing Office Web Apps Server communications by using
HTTPS.
Make sure you have configured the cluster correctly for full internet name:
