Reversing jack-in-the-box icons that replace old excel file icons

Today I noticed that Excel file icons on my desktop have been replaced with a jack-in-the-box icon. It looks like this:
This seems to happen only to Excel files last modified prior to 1993 (although I have not checked all files to determine if this is always true). In the information panel (command-I) for the file, under "open with" it shows "microsoft excel (110725)" but with a "do-not-enter" symbol superposed. On the "open with:" pull down menu (still in the information panel) it also lists "microsoft excel 14.3.4" two times, along with "print preview" as possible choices.
If I double click on the file, it opens normally (I looked long and hard to see if this symptom resembled any viruses before doing that). But it does not change the icon back to normal unless I resave it as an xlsx document. If on the information panel, I change the "open with" choice to microsoft excel 14.3.4 and add the .xls extension to the file name (still in the info panel), the icon changes to the normal Excel icon. It does not change the icon on the desktop unless I do both. Occasionally, it will change the icon on the information panel, but not change the icon on the desktop.
In searching through the archives I found a discussion that suggests this icon is residual from the ResEdit program. I have no idea if that is relevant to my case (in the archive, it had to do with icons for Word documents).
I would appreciate thoughts on why this may have suddenly occurred, and if there is a way to reverse it, short of going through each of hundreds of Excel files, opening the Information panel, and manually making the change.
I did not recently update my OS or upgrade Office. I am running OS X v. 10.8.3 on a 17 inch MacBook Pro with 2.2 GHz Intel Core i7. The Excel version is 14.3.4 (130416). I have Sophos Anti-virus software running.

I am no help other than to say it happened to me as well, not on Excel files, but on 3 folders I had with custom icons. (from a Calvin and Hobbes collection). I have not idea where they came from, and oddly when I go back in time machine to versions of the folders that are a year old they have also been replaced with this icon.
I believe it defies explanation. But I am so glad it has happened to someone else. There is no discernable change other than the odd icon.

Sorry for the possible crossposting... Just noticed on my old G4 desktop that in the 'downlaods' dialog box some of the file icons have a 'jack-in-the-box' picture. This icon image is not associated with any software that I have ever seen before. Some virus or trojan horse? Is it going to pop? Has anyone seen this before?

I have 2 domain controllers running 2003 server, server1 and server2. I ran dcpromo on server1 and removed AD and removed him from the domain and disconnected from network. I then added a 2012 server
with the same name and IP address server1 with no problem. Replication from sites and services work fine on both controllers.
The new 2012 server1 is GC. I transferred all FSMO roles to server1. Again no problem and replicating using sites and services. AD on server1 is populated correctly.
Now what I had intended on doing was a dcpromo to remove server2 from the domain so I can then add another 2012 server. That is when I get the: "The box indicating that this domain controller is the last controller for the domain
is unchecked. However, no other Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted.
I have DNS installed on both servers and both look good with replicating there. Strange thing is when on the 2012 server within DNS if I right click and connect to another DNS server I can add server2 just fine but from server2 adding server1 it tells me it
is not available.

Hi,
As there is server 2012 DC (SERVER1) DC is operational in a domain then "This domain controller is the last controller for the domain" should be remain unchecked when you demote SERVER2 DC.
If you are getting error "Active Directory domain controllers for that domain can be contacted" while demoting SERVER2 DC then check the DNS pointing on both as per below article, disable windows firewall on all DC, less possiblities but worth to check if both
are different site then check the ports are open on firewall.

run “ipconfig /flushdns & ipconfig /registerdns“, restart DNS server and NETLOGON service on each DC and try to demote server2 DC.
If issue reoccurs, post dcdiag /q result.
NOTE: If initial replication was completed between both DC (new 2012 and old DC) then you may remove the server2 DC from Active Directory forcefully (DCPROMO /FORCEREMOVAL) and perform metadata cleanup.

I have to turn the bass control on the stereo receiver to pratically zero in order for the sound coming through the stereo to be acceptable. Is there a setting on either the iPod or the stereo that I need to change in order to fix this?

The phono input is for a phonograph. The iPod does headphne output is not that same as a phongraph output. Does th stero have an AUX input? That should be compatible.

Something is causing Word to lock up. Restart the laptop and/or reinstall Office/Word to fix the instability. Maybe even a bad plugin or document could be causing this if it's only happening when you open a particular doc.

If it's updates through the Office auto-updater that are having problems, that's probably an issue you'll need to take up on Microsoft's support site. If you're having problems installing Office from scratch and it's saying it can't find Installer, you may need to repair your hard drive. More help will probably be obtained if you post in the Mac OS X 10.6 forum; this forum, where you originally posted, is for help with the Communities themselves.

I have a old excel file that does not show hiding cell boxes on my Mac.

I have a old excel file that has some hiding info. in some of the cell boxes. I can not see them on my Mac computers. When I click on the cells to see the hidden info. it does not show up.

Are you using Mac OSX version of Excel or the Windows version of Excel? Regardless being specific to Excel, it would be best to ask in the Microsoft Office forums.

When downloading a file, I select "Save File", but I'm unable to check the box label "Do this automatically for files like this from now on." The box is faded out. It's very tedious when you have to select "Save File" everytime

Download files, already download one time, don't replace old same files

For our business, we work with a lot of files on firefox.
On one computer, when we download a file (like Open Office file), it doesn't replace old same file, that we have downloaded before. The system add (1), (2), ... at the end of file name. So when we must upload this file, we have several files for the same thing but with several versions.
In Options, I checked that Firefox always ask the download location. And in Application, that it ask for all Open Office file.
For others computers, there is no problem.

How do I remove the Box icon from the menu bar?

I have an account on Box, which is a sync program.
Before the last Box updated, I could hide its icon from the menu bar, but now it is not possible and I really don't want it there.
I have tried to drag it out of there, by pressing CMD and dragging, but nothing happens.
Is there any other way to remove it?

How can i know about the page breaks that occur in excel sheet during report gen

I am trying to generate an Excel report with a large number of columns. and i am facing the problem of some of the columns not fitting into the page due to the page break. as a result, these columns are being printed at the end of the report. I would like to add the Row and Column headers to the remaining of the columns so that it is easy to recognise as to which table they belong to. i would like to know if there is any method to find out when the page break occurs in the excel sheet, along with the last printed column number, so that it would be easy for me to add the Row and Column headers before the next row/column is printed.

I have tried to find a way to do what you are asking, but have been unsuccessful. However, you can control where the page breaks occur by using the "New Report Page.vi". You can call this VI after appending the table to the report, and specify the cell where you wish to insert a new page break (using the "position" or "name" elements of the "MS office parameters" input). If you know the page size and you specify the column widths, you should be able to pick reasonable places to start a new page.

Now tell me the below Qs:
1. What you've implemented in the below method:

2. How many Attributes you've defined in your Node (ex: ProductsNode)
Your excel will display in the order that you've coded in the getProductColumnInfos() method, so first thing is to re-order to the order you want to display in the excel sheet. And you will see the output excel as you want.

Compare records in a FORM with that in an Excel file

Guys,
As part of automating a Payroll process I need to compare the records on an Oracle FORM to that in an external Excel file. There are multiple columns that need to be compared. Does anyone have a sample ATS Java script to do this that I can refer to? I am using the external file as a databank.

For each part of your Oracle Form -- set a variable, this is often done for you during record. Since you are doing text matching -- add a text matching test for each place on the form that you want to check against your excel file.
Personally, I'd save it as a csv. But I suppose it will work as an xls.
Then just name the columns of your excel sheet to be the same as the name of the variables you are looking for on the Oracle form.
You shouldn't have to do any coding to make this happen, its all built in oats functionality. You should be able to do all of this stuff from OFT or openscript.
Once you have that -- you'll need to set the test to iterate smoothly -- which means having the last step of your RUN section return you to the same page as the first step of the RUN section.
Then just set your test to iterate however many rows of the databank you want and you'll be going through and comparing each row of data to the information returned by the oracle form.
For instance --
You are looking up a customer by cust_id and you will get address (add1), name (name), phone number (phone) back and want to make sure these are all correct.
Your data bank will look like this:
cust_id, add1, name, phone
1234, 100 Main St, John Doe, 800-555-1212
5678, 200 5th Ave, Suzie Queue, 800-555-1234
Your test steps will look like this (they are not exact)
Step 1) Go to the start of the Oracle Form
Step 2) Select the Form section to enter the Cust_ID {variable to get Cust_ID from databank} Enter the 1st Cust_Id from the databank
Step 3) Get additional information for the specific Cust_ID from the Form
Step 4) Select the Address and do a text matching case {variable to get Add1 from databank}
Step 5) Select the Name and do a text matching case {variable to get Name from databank}
Step 6) Select the Phone # and do a text matching case {variable to get Phone # from databank}
Step 7) Pass test and enter message indicating that {variable to get Cust_Id from databank} is all correct
Step 8) Return to the start of the Oracle Form
