If you followed the instructions in the support article exactly (leaving the machine off for two minutes), then it has a hardware fault. Take it to an Apple Store or other authorized service provider for repair.

After downloading a open office document from a server I always get the question to open or to save it. I checked to open the file after downloading it to a tempory map.
After downloading another open office document I always get the same question even when I checked "Do this automatically for files like this from now ".
Is there a possibility to get rid of the question?

FF works like described in the quote but nothing about immediately opening the file with the specified program. I've tested several possibilities but I always get the question what to do before opening the file. The "automatically"-option doesn't work for open office.
Any other suggestions?

Essentially, the bare issue is that you have a 500GB hard drive with only 10GB free. That is not sufficient to run the system properly. The two options you have are to move/remove files to another location, or to install a larger hard drive (eg 2TB). Drive space has nothing to do with SMC firmware, and usually large media files are to blame.
My first recommendation is this: download and run the free OmniDiskSweeper. This will identify the exact size of all your folders - you can drill down into the subfolders and figure out where your largest culprits are. For example, you might find that your Pictures folder contains both an iPhoto Library and copies that you've brought in from a camera but are outside the iPhoto Library structure. Or perhaps you have a lot of purchased video content in iTunes.
If you find files that you KNOW you do not need, you can delete them. Don't delete them just because you have a backup, since if the backup fails, you will lose all your copies.
Don't worry about "cleaners" for now - they don't save much space and can actually cause problems. Deal with the large file situation first and see how you get on.
Let us know what you find out, and if you manage to get your space back.

I need to use go-item -> execute-trigger(when-button-pressed) personalization in oracle EBS Payables module. However i face certain problem.
When i do 'go-item' to particular 'button', row selection disappear(its a multi row block). In the result i receive an error - 10048 - you have not selected a record.
Manually you just click a button with row selected, and everything goes fine. There must be some kind of a context parameter which is passed from a block/record/row to a button. However how to achieve this through personalization?

Downloading gmail attachment: The "Do this automatically for those files ince now" doesn't work.

When I press "Download" into a Gmail powerpoint attachment I have the option to "Open with OpenOffice" or "Save file".
I choose to "Open with OpenOffice" and *switch-on the check-box "Do this automatically for these files since now"* so next time the powerpoint opens automatically.
No luck at the moment. The dialog "Opening *pss" always appears asking me whether to open it or save it. The check-box option is ignored.

I'm sorry but this is nonsense. there are several extensions that can fix this issue, like MIME Edit etc., unfortunatelly non of them are compatible with my version of Firefox 4. So if some people can fix this issue with a small addon, why not Mozilla developers... ??????

I have mistakenly clicked on the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" in the download dialogue box. I want to open a pdf in adobe when I click on the link. currently the file just gets saved and I cannot change it. I have read thru the suggestions and gone into tools> options> applications and reassigned all of the pdf options to ask first and firefox still just downloads the files to somewhere. I don't want this option and I need to unselect the automatic box.

MS Word for Mac has never supported Arabic. You have to use other apps. Mellel is best, but Pages 5, TextEdit, Nisus Writer, or Open/LibreOffice should work OK.
Sometimes you can make Word for Mac do connected Arabic if you are editing a document created with Windows Word.

Can't figure out why the "Do this automatically for files like this from now on" is disabled Compressed (zipped) Folders

I recently had to uninstall and reinstall Firefox. Now with the new version it will not allow me to click the check box "Do this automatically for files like this from now on". The line is disabled and a light gray. I went into the Applications tab under options and can't find the Compressed (zipped) Folders file type either.
I download a bunch of files for work and to have to click is going to be the biggest pain. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Click on DU's Partition tab when you have the raw drive name selected, then set it to one partition, Mac OS Extended. If it crashes or freezes, it is finding a bad block and can't write.
In any event, if you want to use the drive, and have not zeroed it before, you should now.
Click on Erase -> Security Options -> Zero out data. Still with the full drive selected and not any partition(s).
Then repartition the drive if needed.
Boot from the DVD if that doesn't work. And no, TTPro has never mapped out bad blocks let alone create partitions.
Disk Utility in 10.4.8 is quite good, excellent in fact. No need for an alternative.
Your eMac drive may need to touch of Disk Utility itself. FSCK from the command line, clear the caches with Applejack along with check for corrupt plists. Between Disk Utilty and Applejack (free/shareware) never had to use TechTool Pro - or at least there weren't any errors after those two got done. But if you want a good 3rd party, pick up Disk Warrior 4.
