Here is a decent step by step & photos on the process article, but last page got a bit upset : How ComputerWorld can recommend to use memory optimizer is above me. It's been long know those programs do nothing but interfere with Windows memory sub-system and instead of speeding up - they are slowing down windows.

Update: I was able to have the correct photo show in my email as received on my iPad2 by changing a setting on my IMac prior to sending the photo on the email.
On the iMac, I went into iPhoto > Preferences > Email photos using > Mail (in lieu of "iPhoto"). This seems to have corrected the issue. I'm not sure why. Now the correct photo shows up when received on my iPad2.

Hey umm i have an Ipod touch and every time i plug my usb cord in my laptop, it keeps sayin theres no photos on my Ipod, well i was just wondering if you know a solution on how to get my photos to show up on my laptop without deleting them or restarting my ipod.

How did the photos get on the iPod? If they were taken by or saved to the iPod then:
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
If they were synced to the iPod you need a third-party program like TouchCopy or PhoneView

Mail photo shows on desktop, not laptop

Odd. When I receive some mail messages, there's a photo of the sender in the top right corner of the mail—but just on my MacPro. Not so on my MacBookPro. How do I get these to appear in email on the laptop? Is this a preference? I'm confused.

That photo is taken from the Address Book on the machine on which you are viewing the message. It isn't attached to the message itself. So, just add a photo to each person's card on the MacBook Pro, as you must have done on the other machine.

Help! Can't figure out how to store the same photo in different events

I know that this is just a user error problem, but I can't figure out how to store multiple versions of the same photo in different events. For example, I use Aperture as my main photo library, so I have a big folder set-up by year and then by events within those years to organize and maintain my library. I'm currently working on a project where I would like to pull out certain pictures for other uses. I tried creating new events and then moving the pictures to those events (like I would have in iPhoto) expecting for a new version of the picture to be deposited in the new event. That didn't work - it moved the picture out of my "main library" folder and as far as I can see it now only exists in the new event. Next, I tried creating "new versions" of the pictures I wanted to move and then just selecting those and moving them. In one folder I selected three photos, clicked "New Versions", then in the browser display I could see two of each picture (for a total of six), I selected ONE of each photo and moved those three to the new event. At which point all six disappear from the "main library" and end up in my new event. I don't understand why that happens. Currently the only way I've been able to do what I need to do is by using the flag field, but as far as I can tell there is only one of those - it's on or off that is really not serving my purpose. What do I need to do???

Like Jim said, you most likely want Albums for what you describe. Albums simply consist of "pointers" to a single compilation of image data. Albums can be created and deleted at will, because they are just pointers; an important concept.
Also learn to use Keywords - and unlearn "folder" organization, which is not the way digital asset management works. The power of Albums and Keywords is huge once we lose the film-think of folders organization.

Only the last photo download shows up in iPhoto

I just downloaded new photo from my Camera. Those new photos are the only one that now appears into iPhoto. I can still see my 73G iphoto library on my hard drive, I can also see the pictures when I click on show package content, but I am unable to open it with iPhoto. If I double click to open the library, iPhoto opens up and the only photo show are the last few that I downloaded.
Can anyone help?

No, please don't do that!
If you do then iPhoto will import Original, Modified and thumbnail files and treat them all as individual new images, leading to a mess and massive duplication.
To try and get iPhoto to open the library the correct way is to hold down the option (or alt) key while starting iPhoto, then select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the library location.

Contact Photos Show Up with 10.4.3 Update

I just updated to 10.4.3, and the contact photos show up. Apparently, the software is being updated, and Apple is listening. I'm sure there will be more updates for added functionality.

Congratulations to all you "MAc" users, however, from what I gather, this feature is not supported for Windows users and would have to be addressed in a future release of iTunes for Windows.
Deduction: It's an APPLE iPod, so I guess it has more support for APPLE Mac users than MICROSOFT Windows users.

Details of photo showing up in Develop mode

hi everyone..anyone,
i imported images into LR3 and was about to close the catalog when i got a backup reminder popping up on my screen. so i did the obvious thing and clicked Backup. I later opened the catalog to find to my dismay, details of the each photo showing up in the Develop screen. This doesnt show when viewing in the Library mode though. so each photo has the following details showing on the upper left corner of the image
File Name-8. CR2
date and time
image size
Please how do i get rid of this unsightly details so i can work on the images? Help.

Press the [ I ] key once or twice.
It is the information that is available on demand for display when you press I for Information.

Aperture 3: Geotagged Photos show up in wrong part of world

I imported a set of geotagged photos. When I look at places in Aperture 3 several of the photos are appearing in the wrong part of the world ( Kazakhstan instead of Nova Scotia). The photos were taken / geotagged by my Blackberry Storm. When I travel I'll take a picture with the Storm to get the geotag info and then later copy those coordinates into the photos I take with my camera. The photos with the copied coordinates ( I used PhotoMechanic to set the location info) are showing up in the correct location by the way.
The Storm photos show up in the right location when viewed in iPhoto, Flckr, Photo Mechanic, Google Earth.
Any ideas why this would be happening

Just stepped in the same problem on my Mac Pro, Aperture 3.2.1, iTunes 10.5.1 and iPad updated to 5.0.1.
Once selected Aperture as reference library for photo syncing I selected specific projects and faces. As a photographer I have volumes of material I just can't copy completely on devices.
I noticed the number on the right side of projects in iTunes were way below the actual content. Syncing just let me verify on my iPad a lot of picture were missing.
Deselecting Aperture and photo sync, erasing pictures from the device and restarting from the top didn't help.
Also repairing photo database gave no effect.
I solved by updating ALL photos previews in Aperture. It took the whole day, 16 hours, but in the end, quitting both AP and iTunes then enabling photo sync showed the correct amount for each project, same on iPad.

How to add a new metadata field to iPhoto where new field is calculated as age in years and month based on a specific date and the date photo was taken ? I want to calculate and display the age of my two kids on every photo.

It can't be done with iPhoto. There are some DAM (digital asset management) applications that can write to other IPTC fields that iPhoto can't read. One such app is Media Pro 1.
However you would have to calculate the age for each date and add it to one of the fields. There are online age calculators that can do that for you: Age Calculators
If you go thru that much trouble then use iPhoto, make the calculations and add the age to the Description field. Then you can use Smart Albums to search for 1year 6 month text.

You don't. The CCK doesn't support the export of photos at all. You can upload them to something like Flicker or dropbox adn then download them onto your computer.

I cant download all my iPhone photos onto my Dell Latitude laptop. I get the impression that Apple are trying to force me to buy iCloud space in order for me to do this. If so then I'm done with Apple products. I would rather buy a Samsung in the fut

Why must a brief detailed technical question be summarized? Why cant I do the supposedly simple task of downloading "all" of my photos from my 64g iPhone 5s onto my Dell Latitude E6410 laptop in one simple press of the button process? Instead my Laptop is always trying to download mega gigabytes of all my laptop photos onto my iPhone. I am now totally convinced that the Apple Corporation has implemented a scheme trying to "force" me, and every other Apple customer, to buy more iCloud storage instead of allowing us the cheaper option of storing our own photos on our own lap tops and our own external hard drives. If this is the case then Apples tactics are back-firing, and I for one, will never buy another complicated, user-unfriendly, rotten capitalistic Apple product again. Or whats wrong with the FREE photo stream conduit that over air transfers images to your pc pictures folder (And you don't need to buy any extra storage ever) the images just transfer !
Also what is so difficult with plugging in to a USB socket and having images automatically uploaded/downloaded into your Pictures folder ?

True the sync process is all encompassing rather then delta but it does mean true syncing

First transfer the photos to a folder on your MacBook using Image Capture in your Utilities folder. Then move them to iPhoto.
BTW, you might want to invest in a cheap USB hub.

How can I sync ONLY the top photo in the stack?

I sync various Aperture photo albums to my IPad and iPhone. The problem is that when I have 'stacked' images (eg. one image showing in the album and two other copies 'hidden' underneath), all of the photos in the stack are copied to the ipad and iPhone. So instead of seeing just one version of an image, I see as many as are in the stack. How can I sync ONLY the top photo in the stack?

I solved my own problem.
The sync problem seemed to only occur on smart albums. There is a new check box option in Aperture 3 when making a smart album: "sync stack pick only." One click and the problem is solved!

How do I find the original photo that is used in one of my contact photo in "Contacts"?

I am in a bit of a dilemma. I desperately need to find and/or access the original photo used as a contacts photo in the OSX built in app "Contacts". I can resize the photo and I can see it in full but I can't find the original anywhere and in any way.
I'd really appreciate some help here, as the photo is dear to my heart but seems to have gone missing. It was originally scanned in but isn't showing up where all my scanned photos are saved. Eek!
If anyone has any pointers on where I could find this photo in its original size, please do share them!

I've tried doing that, but in the said folder there are only default pictures. I can't find the images of any contacts in the app "Contacts" anywhere. The thread you refered me to and many others that are smilar to it, date back to about 2009-2010.
Really need this photo. Any other pointers?
