JCO Problem - (102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION/Group PUBLIC not found
Hi all,
I installed the u201CSAP NetWeaver 7.01 - ABAP Trial Versionu201D and the u201CEHP1 for SAP NetWeaver Composition Environment 7.1 - Preview Versionu201D on same machine (drive u201CDu201D) and both are working.
My intention is to learn WebDynpro accessing BAPIu2019s created by me (learning ABAP too) using RFCu2019s.
I just did it using JCou2019s but it was all configured.
The problem is that, I create the Dictionary JCo (META_DATA) but when I ping or test always return the errors below:
Ping: Failed to ping JCo destination 'ME_META_DATA'.
Test: com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server host failed Connect_PM TYPE=B MSHOST=localhost GROUP=PUBLIC R3NAME=NSP MSSERV=sapmsNSP PCS=1 ERROR Group PUBLIC not found TIME Wed Jan 07 00:40:57 2009 RELEASE 711 COMPONENT LG VERSION 5 RC -6 MODULE lgxx.c LINE 4574 DETAIL LgIGroupX COUNTER 2
I created the Application JCo (MODEL_DATA) with success and it is working (Ping and Test).
Even using the existing SDN documentation /forums, it seems that something is missing, a parameter; a procedure how to configure a parameter; the sequence of actions or the need of re-start the instance or machine.
I u201Csupposeu201D that the problem may be at Stack ABAP. The group PUBLIC was created (SMLG), the services windows file is ok
If some one had success and have a step-by-step procedure or a good tip it will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Walmir CatundaHi Jason andd Walmir,
Its woking JCO connetion for Sneek Preview ABAP trial version 7.01. Once you setup the logon group, you must execute the program rsrzllg0_actual in the SE38 and next unchecked the FRCE_SAV and clicked on the execute button. then check your jco connection. it is working in the my case.
Thank you so much Jason!
I think you can close this thread.

Error in updating family data and personal id - RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION
Hello all,
When i try to update, change, maintain family member data through ESS it is giving me error as "An exception occurred that was not caught., error key: RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE" and also when I try to maintain Personal ID data it is giving me error as "Subtype does not exist for Infotype 0185, error key: RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION.
I have maintained all the subtypes in service specific settings - own data - reuse country specific data in table (V_T7XSSPERSUBTYP). When I see the error through ST22 in backend, it is giving me exception as CX_HRPA_INVALID_PARAMATER. I have maintained the country grouping for the user.

I know it has something to do with the entries in the services and hosts files of the portal server. Please guide me on links from help.sap.com on this.HI Dagfinn,
Very helpful answer. Thanks.
When you say :
4. Normally, the sap system should be registered in DNS, and you should need any. --- How do I check if my SAP system is registerd in the DNS? Is there some detail explaination on this.
Also,
I have these observations :
1. I checked the services file on my portal server and the entry for "sapgw00 3300/tcp" is maintained there.
2. There is no entry of my SAP ECC box in the hosts file of my portal server.
3. The group PUBLIC is not maintained in SMLG transaction.
4. I am using R3ip only in my code, there is no other place that this "R3ip" is being used.
Following is my code :

please help me in resolving this issue and points will be awarded for sure
BalaHi,
This JCO Exception caused by network problems, connection breakdowns, gateway problems, unavailability of the remote SAP system, etc.
What you can do is: Get the host of the SAP System from dev_jrfc.trc or the JRFC trace; ping the SAP system from command line; check routers, gateways, SAP systems
If an error has occurred on a lower communication layer, for example an RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION or RFC_ERROR_SYSTEM_FAILURE exception, have a look at the dev_jrfc.trc files. These files are written by JRFC and can be found in the directories j2ee/cluster/server* of the J2EE Application Server Installation.

JCo Destination Failing With RFC_Error_COMMUNICATION
Hi Gurus,
We installed a new Bi system with ABAP and JAVA stacks on different hardware and SIDs, now we have problem in integration where JCO BI Meta Data connection is giving following error if I test it. Ping is also failing.
com.sap.mw.jco.JCO$Exception: (102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server host failed Connect_PM TYPE=B MSHOST=host.domain.com GROUP=PUBLIC R3NAME=<SID> MSSERV=sapms<SID> PCS=1 LOCATION CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host with Unicode ERROR service 'sapms<SID>' unknown TIME Tue Aug 10 05:26:09 201 RELEASE 701 COMPONENT NI (network interface) VERSION 38 RC -3 MODULE nixxhsl.cpp LINE 776 DETAIL NiHsLGetServNo: service name cached as unknown COUNTER 2
I checked sapms<SID> in etc -> services on ABAP host it is defined to message server port, I have added sapms<SID> as 8100 in SLD connection.
All three connections from portal as successful, still JCo destinations are not working.
Note:I have initally added message server port as 3600 in SLD connection where I replaced it to 8100 now, not sure whether this has any impact.
Kindly help.
Thanks
GopalHi,
Please add the sapmsSID entries for both systems (java and abap) in the /etc/services file of BOTH SERVERS. This means that each server should have entries for every system in your landscape.
Additionally, please ensure that this is set to 36<NN> and not 8100 as you mentioned. The reason is that 8100 is ABAP HTTP port, but 36<NN> is message server port. These two are different.
Try this.

RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server failed
Hi,
I think this is the most common error that one can face and have seen quite a few threads in the forum. Still, i couldn't resolve my problem.
I am getting the following error when i tried to connect to SAP using SAP JCO connector with load balancing.
(102) RFC_ERROR_COMMUNICATION: Connect to message server failed
Connect_PM MSHOST=sapserver, R3NAME=D11, GROUP=Group1
LOCATION CPIC (TCP/IP) on local host
ERROR partner not reached (host sapserver, service sapmsD11)
TIME Wed Jun 24 16:05:49 2009
I added the service sapmsD11 in the services file of my client as well as in R/3 server.
I got the above error when i tried to connect using load balancing. Without load balancing, i was able to connect to R/3 server successfully. Can any one tell how to figure out the message server host name ?
Can the application server host name and message server host name be same ?
PS: I am able to ping my R/3 server from my client.
Thanks,
Prasad.Hi,
Check that you have configured properly using the below document. And check the message server of R/3 is configured properly in the SLD.

I need stop and start the CC.
I cannot propose to customer to stop and start CC every morning.
How can i solve this problem?
thanks
AlexHi,
As a workaround you can plan the availability of your RFC channels according to the downtime of R3 system.
The channels will be stopped and started automatically in this case. take a look here,
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/46/ad6cfeb5492a86e10000000a1553f6/content.htm
regarding the problem, did you see Q25 of this note

For reason to change server IP address,

would someone tell me how to resolve this problem.
regardsHi,
It seems that the SAP gateway host is deactivated or the TCP/IP port 33xx (where xx corresponds to the system number) is not open.
First try pinging <IP address>. If there is no reply, then Boot SAP Gateway host required.
Check whether the TCP/IP port 33xx is open (where xx corresponds to the system number) and start the SAP gateway
The TCP/IP port is also partially defined in the services file as an sapgw<SID> or sapgwxx entry (where xx corresponds to the system number). The services file is in the Windows directory or in WinNT/System32/drivers/etc.
Hope this helps.

I have a PUBLIC entry in SMLG and I have a valid entry in etc/services. The problem I think is with SMLG the PUBLIC entry does not have a green box under the status field. Can someone elaborate on this more?Ensure that your host file contains three entries pointing to IP addrsss of Discovery System:
<IP ADDRESS>[tab] SAPDiscoverySystem<space>iwdfvm2160<space>owdfvm2160.wdf.sap.corp
This addresses the internal file names as well as SAPDiscoverySystem. This can also be accomplished with three entrie in your company DNS but many companies do not allow out-of-domain entries.
I will modify the instructions on Prerequisites page.
