RH 8 for Word losing WYSIWYG images

Hi everyone,
I have been using RoboHelp since its BlueSky Software days to develop documentation as consultant for a leading 3D modeling and rendering application. My last project was done with RH6 using Word 2003 on a 32 bit  XP machine.
For the next round, I suggested upgrading to RH8 (in fact, I am going to purchase my own license instead of using a company's license), so I installed the 30 days demo on my week-old machine - Vista 64 bit, 8 cores, 12GB RAM, Office 2007, all that jazz.
I copied the previous project one-to-one over to the new machine, opened it successfully and performed a test compilation from the existing documents without resaving anything. As far as I could tell, everything went ok, the final CHM output was identical to the output of RH6.
So I started doing minor edits like changing the version number of the product and a couple of links. I saved the document containing the start page (got saved to DOC file in compatibility mode as expected and without any problems) and compiled again. This time, the two images (banner and a kind of splash screen found on the start page) were missing.
A look at the Images list in RH showed that they were indeed missing from the project, albeit in the bitmaps folder defined for the project. For obvious reasons, all images in the project are shown as WYSIWYG and not TrueCode. So I double-clicked one of the two missing images and the bitmap dialog did not know the file name of the image embedded in the Word document! So I selected the file name again, checked TrueCode, resaved the document and the image appeared on the Images list. Switched back to WYSIWYG, resaved the document and it was gone again.
To make sure I was not dreaming, I started a new empty project, added one of the built in button bitmaps to it, saved the document (this time a native DOCX file) and got the same problem - no image in compiled CHM, no image on the Images list. Switched to TrueCode and it appeared again. A look at the intermediate HTML files showed of course that the image was not exported. A look at the intermediate RTF format using Notepad showed the file name in curly brackets where it should have been, so it looks like there was some miscommunication between RH8 and Word.
To make sure this was not a Word 2007 issue, I installed Word 2003, switched RH8 to use that and tried again working with my existing project, but got exactly the same results - TrueCode works, WYSIWYG appears to get forgotten. In fact, it turned out that about half of the over 1000 images used in the project were missing after a while as the documents containing them got resaved. Those that were left either belonged to files that were not resaved yet, or happened to be left as TrueCode due to lower visual importance.
Sinced most of my images in the source are WYSIWYG, one would possibly propose to switch them all to TrueCode. This would not work though (I tried, so I know ) - for all images that were automatically converted to TrueCode, I got a {bmc } entry with no file name whatsoever. (Thankfully I had a full backup of the project ready to get copied over to restore the mess, otherwise I wouldn't have figured out which entry was what image). This was to be expected, because any attempt to open a source DOC file and double-click an image leads to an empty file name, so RH8 is unable to see what was saved in the file by RH6.
So at this point I have 25 days of evaluation time before I either
1. Find a solution to this problem and spend the dough on a license
2. Dust off my old single core machine and do another round of RH6 development (I don't look forward to this).
On a side note, I am getting the error opening the compiled CHM from the compiler dialog's View button reported in another discussion when compiling the existing project, but NOT when compiling a newly created one. Oh, and my "smart quotes" replacement is completely disabled.
Any assistance in this matter would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure if this issue has been resolved, but I'll add my two cents.
Based on your post, several issues are involved: RH upgrade and Word upgrade.
From my experience:
MS Word 2007 is not completely 2003 compatible - even though it says so.
The save as rtf from Word vs the save as rtf from RH differ. I believe RH uses its own save as rtf. File size of the rtf files differ drastically.
Putting an image directly into the word doc causes problems in one form or another, so you should always use the RH menus to insert your images.
When an image is inserted into a word doc, if you don't insert it correctly, a copy of Paint is also inserted behind the scenes tied to the image so that you can edit the image directly in the doc. This not only makes the doc file huge, it may be causing the problems you are seeing as I am not sure how RH deals with an image tied to Paint. To determine if you image is tied to Paint, right-click the image and see if the edit image option is available because that means it is tied to Paint.
There is something you could try. Export your RH6 project into a doc that has the images in it. Then create a new project and import the doc. Specify in the conversion of this doc to create images. That may fix the broken links you are seeing in true code. (As a side note, working in true code will increase your computer's performance.) Letting RH convert the images to bmp files should also automatically insert the true code {bmc... etc.) Note that images are converted in the order that they appear in your doc, i.e., first image will be called image001.bmp and so on. Yes, this will be confusing. At some point you may want to rename the image file to something meaningful to you and change the corresponding image in the bmc in your doc file.
If that doesn't work, if I were you, I would go through the doc and one by one save each image with a name you understand, then immediately insert the image using the RH menu and then delete the WYSIWYG image. Remember to save the images as bmp files. During the compile, RH converts these images to GIFs behind the scenes so your output file is smaller. As daunting as this sounds, you won't regret this. Your doc will open faster and be smaller making it easier to manipulate, and you can edit or replace the bmp file and the new image will appear when you recompile.
Note: if you choose to use either of the above suggestions, you may need to use RH imaging tool to resize your pix. The bmp image should always be the size you want it to appear in your output. In Word and WYSIWYG, people have a tendency to insert an image and resize it for printing and this does not convert well.
Another thing you may want to consider is saving the doc using the Word 2007 default. As you mentioned, when you created a test project, the file was a docx and not doc.

  • RH8 for Word not displaying images in WebHelp

    Greetings.
We recently upgraded from RH7 for Word to RH8 for Word.  Images (bitmaps) that displayed perfectly when RH7 compiled the WebHelp do not display at all when RH8 compiles the WebHelp.  All we get is an extra blank line -- not even a broken image link.
Images are in the correct folder; nothing has changed, except for the upgrade.
The images were placed in the files using the New Help Image icon.
This is an urgent and high-priority issue for us.  Adobe Tech Support is unable to assist.
    Thank you!

    Hi again
Well, one might assume that you knew where the WebHelp output folder was because you are reporting the images aren't showing when you view WebHelp. So the question now becomes: How exactly are you viewing the WebHelp? Are you clicking the "View Result" button after you generate? Are you viewing after you publish it to the Web Server? (That doesn't sound right as you are saying the "keeper" won't push it until the image issue is resolved. This would seem to infer that you aren't involved other than to post and act as an intermediary?

  • Can Robohelp for word support .PNG images

    Hii,
Can anyone pls tell me whether Robohelp for Word supports
images in .PNG format ?? (I am working on a Winhelp 2000 project) I
am able to get good results for smaller word documents without
converting the images into Help images, but the larger documents
are not letting the help file to be generated. The generation
process stops at processing the .rtf file. I don't want to convert
my images, which consist of .bmp and .png files, into Help images
because the output is very ugly.

Thanks, that helped get rid of the problem. I had around 700
images (ranging from small menu icons to full screen windows) in my
Word document, and was trying to import the same into RH7. I
divided the document into smaller documents because of the said
problem. Now, one of these documents was again creating problem. I
followed what you suggested regarding the images for that specific
part only, and the problem has gone. Now my concern is, will those
parts, where I have not inserted the images using the RH7 menu,
create problem later on. For now, they are working perfectly, and
the images are getting displayed properly. I have not converted any
images into help images. But, the Insert Image dialog box did not
support PNG files, hence I had to save the images as BMP (24 bit)
first. What problems can I face because of simply importing the
documents along with the images. Removing all the images, saving
them, and inserting them again using the RH7 menu is going to take
    a hell lot of time.

  • Importing word documents - but losing all images which was in it

    Hi,
I am fairly new to Robohelp and recently got hold of Robohelp 8.
I have already written a Help File for my company's recent product, and the help file was in word 2007 with a lot of screenshots of icons, buttons and dialog boxes pasted in it.
On importing the word document to Robohelp, none of these images are being imported and I cannot see any of them in the project view.
I wanted to use the link to word document feature so that i do not have to keep re-importing the document for any changes made - however, because the images are not being imported, i now have to add them manually to the project.
1 - this is tiring and very time consuming
2 - the project files to which i add the pictures are no longer updated from the word document if any of the text changes as the project is preserving the changes i made to the file (which was only adding the image manually). Kind of defeat the purpose of link to the word document.
    HELP
I would really appreciate any help in
1 - How to import a word document containing images (screenshots, icons etc) without losing the images
2 - Keep the word document to update the project even after i add any images to the project manually.
    Thanks
    Nivekz

    Hi again
    Thanks for the clarification.
Okay, so really what you are doing is identical to clicking File > Import > Word Document, because all you are doing by choosing PDF is pre-selecting PDF as the listed file types. Once you change it to point to Word documents it's no different.

  • Missing Images After Moving RH8 for Word Project

    Hi everyone!
I am encountering a problem that I cannot solve, so I thought I would try posting here for some help from the pros.
I am working with a legacy RH for Word project. I currently have RH 8 and Word 2007. I relocated the project and all of its associated files from my local machine to a network drive. Now I have found that all of the image files that I have used throughout the project are showing up as broken links.
I have tried deleting and readding the references with no success.
I have also made sure that both the path to the current location and the path to the old location show up in the list under "All Project Folders" on the Help Image Properties box (with the current location on top of the previous location, if that matters).
The images display if I do the Active Test and they display when I bring up the Help Image Properties box. I have double and triple checked that the images are in both locations, but when it comes time to generate the primary layout and view it, they are broken again.
I am at my wits end, so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Many moons since I have used RoboHelp for Word but I am suspecting the issue is moving the project to the network. I think it is OK to have the documents on the network but not the project.
Not sure and more than happy for a RoboHelp for Word user to chip in and contradict.

  • Adobe RoboHelp for Word 8.0 - Issues

    Hi
I am using a Trial version of RoboHelp for Word 8.0, and would like to receive comments on the following issues:
It would appear that Manual Page Breaks in the middle of a long topic (inserted for printing purposes), are causing the data from beyond that point on to be ignored.
Links (hyperlinks) in the Word document "appear" to be links in the generated HTML ... but are not links.
All Tables in the Word input are set at 100% ... but the generated HTML is "fixed width".
Images in the Word input are links to an image library (absolutely mandatory in this application) ... but it appears that the generated HTML is using the Word version of the image, rather than the image in the image library.  This results in poorer quality and differences in size when compared to the images in the library.
    Any comments greatly appreciated.
    MBarryH

For 1, Peter is correct. You will need to remove the page breaks in your document within a page. RH uses hard page breaks to indicate a new topic is there.
For 2, Word uses a different method to insert hyperlinks like mailtos. RH needs to use its own code to make these links (i.e., Insert html and mailto:). You will need to remove the hyperlink, then insert the link using RH. If you have many of this mailto links to replace, use Word's copy and paste to copy the RH code for the link and paste it where needed.
For 3, I believe HTML code only supports fixed width tables. It will not automatically make the table wider when the window is maximized. I find the best width for tables to be 6 inches.
For 4, images placed in Word docs are often created in different graphics programs. RH uses more simplifed graphics programs such as Paint. I suggest you open each imgage in Paint, then save as a bmp file using a more familiar name than image001.bmp, etc. During the compile, RH will convert the bmp to a good gif file and use it in the topic. Then, in your doc, delete the image and then select to insert the graphic using this function in RH. This makes a direct link to the image file. You can also modify the image directly and changes will appear in the pix when you compile it. It is easier if you are viewing the doc in true code in RH rather than WYSIWYG. If the image is in the doc itself, the imagennn.bmp is ignored. Note, if you must use the WYSIWYG, these images show up as blank areas in your doc when you are in draft view. Word 2007 only makes them show up when you are in print view. So, you may want to consider putting a border around the image so you can see it in draft view.
I have used RH for Word for over 15 years. Word adds more quick editing features than RoboHTML does. For example, paint, search and replace -- all in terms of something you already use when working with Word. The only adjustments you may have is when MS comes out with a new version of Word itself. As MS makes Word easier for the novice user, they sometimes cause problems for the powerusers. However, there are always ways to work around these issues. RH for Word is easier to use if you use the show formatting marks in Word so you can tell what is happening. You will be able to see the code used in the RH links and the paragraph marks to see what Word is doing. Be aware to spellcheck your doc, choose to hide these marks and spell check will ignore text formatted as hidden.

  • Styles looking different in RH8 for Word source and Webhelp

    Hi All,
I am using RH8 for Word. There are close to 900 topics in my project. My problem is that the styles that I used in my RH Word documents and the styles displayed after generating Webhlep are looking different. Also, that is not consistent with all the topics; some are generated exactly as the styles are in RH Word documents, but some are generated differently. An example might help you clearly understand.
    Example
I have used the following styles in my RH Word documents:
    ·                                 Normal for body text
    ·                                 Heading1 for headings
[to see the below images clearly please zoom in the browser display]
The following figure shows topic1 when the styles are applied in RH Word:
This is another topic2 when the styles are applied in RH Word:
    Output for topic1 in webhelp:
    Output for topic2 in webhelp:
As you can see, the styles applied in topic1 and its output matches, whereas it is different for topic2 in Word and in Webhelp. I am not using any templates in RH Word. Can anyone please explain why this inconsistency. Is there a way to resolve this. I will be glad to provide you more information if required.
    Thank you,
    Vinay

  • Robohelp 8 for Word: Problem with the Hotspot Topic

    Hello Everybody:
I'm a beginner user of Robohelp 8 for Word trial version. My project is a WinHelp 2000, imported from a version X3, and I have a problem with Robohelp when I save the value "Topic" of the property "Jump" of the tab what is called "General" at the window "Hotspot Properties". This Hotspot is part of a Shed Image (accesible from Help Image Properties > Shed ...  > Image Workshop > Properties button). After edit the topic, I press the "Aceptar" (OK) button (note that I use a Windows XP SP3 Spanish Version and some buttons are located)  and close the Hotspot Properties window, and I close Image Workshop window too.
If immediately after I open the Image Workshop window and the same hotspot property window edited before, Robohelp lose the new value "Topic" and only it puts one letter. When I make the compilation they are multiple errors like this: HC3025: Warning: ESTA0058_2.SHG :  Jump to undefined Topic ID: "A".
Please, help me. Thank you very much.
P.D.: This image shows the problem:

The licence you bought was for RoboHelp Office which includes both the RoboHelp for Word and RoboHelp HTML applications. Each of these three has it's own installation file so I suspect that they have installed just the RoboHelp HTML application. They should have the details for the RoboHelp for Word application, or better still the RoboHelp Office application which gives you the options of what to install according to your needs.

  • Converting RoboHelp for Word to RoboHelp HTML (v8)

I have a RoboHelp for Word (started at v6, converted to v7, and now at v8) project that I want to convert to a RoboHelp HTML v8 project.
The RoboHelp for Word V8 looks good, works great and builds good looking WebHelp and MS Html Help finished outputs! But, I can't seem to figure out how to embed Captivate App Demos (SWF) into the project. Another post in these forums indicated that this is easy with RoboHelp HTML; and after some testing, indeed it is! Great.
Now - the question is, how do I get my existing (looks good, feels great) RoboHelp for Word V8 project imported into RoboHelp HTML V8?
I made a copy of my RHWord project directory (so as not to screw anything up) and then opened RHHTML and chose to import an existing HPJ project. When asked whether to keep the project file XPJ or go to HHP, I chose HHP.
During the conversion, I get lots of "images not valid; invalid chars" on GIF files that RHWord has no problem with. It will not display nor publish these GIF files. Actually, it does display some of the GIFs in the RHHTML dev env, but then doesn't publish them!
Also, during the conversion, it asks if you want a single CSS for each file or one CSS based on one of the WORD docs from the RHWord project. The default was the former, so I chose it. After the conversion, many of the topics have CSS data that appears at the top (e.g. long list of font names) that end up getting published also. So why did this happen?
Also, after the conversion, many of the topics have non-displayable characters that do not show up in the RHWord version; source or published version.
So - my question is, how do I correctly go from a RHWord project that seems to edit and publish just fine to a RHHTML project cleanly?
I have tried to be as detailed as possible on each of these issues, but if more is required, let me know.
    Thanks much for your assistance,
    Jeff

The original post included a complaint:
"After the conversion, many of the topics have CSS data that appears at the top (e.g. long list of font names) that end up getting published also"
I didn't spot an answer to this part of the problem.  I may have missed it
I see this also in importig a RH8 WinHelp project for conversion to WebHelp. It's no big deal to just delete the font list in projects that have just a single original Word doc, but I have a number of projects that each contain hundreds of Word docs, and the font list is inserted tt the top of each converted htm file.
So I am motivated to find a solution...
    Any ideas RH troops???

  • Customizing Publish Options for Word Doc

Are there any additional publish customization options for Word doc? I checked the options available, and I didnt find any feature that allows you, for example, to manipulate slide images ( like, size and position), slide notes ( fonts and placement), etc. It takes so much time to reformat images and notes for each slide. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

The handout template is hard coded. But, working with the other templates and the Word Output document, I was able to create a template that will allow you to publish the Word images and slide notes in Word. And, you can customize the placement on the page and image sizes.
Here are instructions (I'm using Captivate 6 BTW):
    1. Make all of your slide notes into closed captioning.
I was able to find the computer code to call the closed captions, but not the slide notes. So you have to drop some audio onto each slide (I'm using 1 second of silence generated in Audacity) and click the button that will turn your slide notes into closed captions. Don't worry...these won't display in your published project unless you have your skin set to display them.
    2. Open a new Word document.
    3. Copy and paste the script below into your Word document. This script as is will print 2 slides per page with slide notes above the images.
    [CPDefaultItemTemplates[CPTemplates[TIMEBLOCK[CPContentInsert]TIMEBLOCK]CPTemplates]CPDefa ultItemTemplates]
    [CPCapturedSlide
    [CPBlockInsert][CPTemplates[CC1[CPCC]CC1]
    [CCN[CPCC]CCN]CPTemplates]
    [CPSlideImage][size:282x214]
    CPCapturedSlide]
    [CPContentSlide
    [CPBlockInsert][CPTemplates[CC1[CPCC]CC1]
    [CCN[CPCC]CCN]CPTemplates]
    [CPSlideImage][size:282x214]
    CPContentSlide]
    4. Adjust the script to your liking:
    1. Change the image size. This is set to 282 x 214. But you can change the image size to whatever you want it to be. If you make the size larger, fewer will fit on a page.
    2. Move the slide notes, if you want. This is set to put the slide notes above the images. To put the notes below the images, move the [CPBlockInsert][CPTemplates[CC1[CPCC]CC1]
[CCN[CPCC]CCN]CPTemplates] to below [CPSlideImage][size:282x214]. Be sure to move both instances, and don't copy/paste...move!
    3. Use Word's formatting options to change the page display. For example, if you use Word to center the code about slide images, the slides will be centered on the page when you publish. You can add your company's logo in the header. Type CPMovieTitle into one place to print the project title...either header or footer. It won't work if you put it in more than one place for reasons known only to Captivate. You can put page numbers or dates in the footer. You can change the font for the slide notes by highlighting the notes code (see #3 above) and making it larger, smaller, different, bold, italic, etc., etc., etc. Whatever you would do with Word to format your handouts, do in this document.
    4. Add anything that you want to print on every page outside the [ ] blocks. For instance, if you want to blank lines to print under the notes, you can add before the code for the images.
    5. Save the Word document in .doc format with a memorable name where you can find it. You don't have to save with the templates in the Captivate program file.
    6. Publish to Print. In the upper, right corner, in the Type section, click the button with ... It's to the right of Handout. That will open a window which will allow you to browse to find and select your Word document. The Layout Options won't do anything, so no need to mess with them. Set the rest of your settings...like project title and publish location and publish.
Things that I don't know, but would like to:
    1. Will this work in Captivate 7? Will someone try and let us know?
    2. Can you save the Word file in .docx format?
    3. Can you set the Word doc to landscape instead of portrait? (I'll bet that you can, but haven't tried it.)
    4. What Word options won't work? I know that you can't put this code inside a Word table. Using column and page breaks, I got mine to print with the slide notes on the left and images on the right. Other than that, who knows? Word is a big program, so you'll just have to test.
    5. What is the code to call the slide notes? I've called Adobe support twice and can't get a straight answer. If we all start calling and emailing, maybe they'll tell us.
So, I hope this helps. There are so many threads about this and I can't repost everywhere. So, please link to this thread if you see another one where this info will help.
    Happy printing!
    Rebecca

  • RoboHelp for Word will not show new .WMF graphics

I am working on a help file, and I have to insert equations that I would like to attach pop-ups to.  I add the .wmf graphic and add the pop-up, but when I compile the image is not there.  This is an older file that was converted over to Robohelp for word and it has .wmf graphics that compile.  The only ones that do not show up are the new ones I add to the project.  There is just a blank space where the graphic should be.  The only way I can get the graphic to show is to convert it into a .shg graphic and then it works.  I don't want to keep converting the .wmf file to .shg it is just a waste of time, and it makes my image folder double in size.   I have tried inserting the equation as an object in word, but that will not allow me to link it to a pop-up and still have the equation there.   Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Peter and Brian, THANKS so much! RoboHelp for Word is working
    now.
Peter, your advice to install RoboHelp AFTER installing Word
was key in solving this problem.
For a quick summary of the result -- our Help Desk
uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, Word, and RoboHelp. Then they
reinstalled Word and Outlook; needed to change an "Advanced"
setting in outlook; to get Word to stop giving me the error
messages, they needed to redo my user profile. Then after I was
confident that Word and Outlook were working correctly, this
afternoon I installed RoboHelp X5 via my CD, and then downloaded
and installed these two patches from Adobe.com:
    - rho_x501.exe (for the RH Office Word 2003 Support Update)
    - rho13_x502.exe (for the Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 Support
    Update X5.0.2).
I'm so thankful that RoboHTML and RoboHelp for Word seem to
    be working well! Thanks again!
    Janice
P.S. I do have one more question about a patch that I've not
yet loaded, but I'll post that under a separate subject.

  • EMACS for word processing?

I've heard some stuff about EMACS being usable for word processing... How usable is it? Can it be made to do WYSIWYG editing of documents with headers, footers, and/or double-spaced text, in a format that MS Office will be able to read?
(If you must know, I have to deal with MLA format in an academic setting, and am not a huge fan of Abiword or OOo when it comes to actually writing stuff...)

[Edit: posted too slow, but some stuff near the end may be of interest...]
You could use emacs to create LaTeX source files. (See texlive for LaTeX packages for Arch.) Emacs has a number of extensions to aid with LaTeX document composition, the best known being AUCTeX. While it does have some preview features, AUCTeX by itself is not exactly WYSIWYG, though these days most LaTeX users generate PDF documents which shows them exactly what the output will be before printing.
The quality of LaTeX typesetting is much better than what you get by default with MS Office or Open Office or AbiWord. Once you have a LaTeX document, converting it to one of those formats feels like a downgrade. But if you needed to generate something that they can handle for the purposes of collaborating with a colleague, you could use tex4ht, which has scripts for converting to ODT or HTML. There are other conversion methods too.
I use vim for LaTeX composition personally, and almost never need to use a Word Processor.
I hate to invoke stereotypes, but most liberal arts profs don't know a lot about computers.
Well, I am a liberal arts (philosophy) prof... so infer from that what you will.

  • Hide hover text for HTML help file images???

When I build HTML help, hovering over the image shows the
graphic's name. Can this be hidden?

Hi Molly0602 and welcome to our community
Hmmm, not sure about using RoboHelp for Word to do this. Out
of curiosity, why are you using RoboHelp for Word to create HTML
based output? Why not switch to RoboHelp HTML? I don't believe this
is an issue in that environment.
    Just a thought... Rick

  • How to use "Mail Merge for Word" to include only Account fields?

We're attempting to use the Mail Merge for Word template to create a document containing several fields from the Account object. We do not need any fields from the Contact object, and there are many contacts linked to each account.
When choosing "Get On Demand Data > Accounts", removing all the [Contacts] fields, selecting the necessary [Accounts] fields, then clicking "OK", a "List Download in Progress" window appears, followed by one that says "Microsoft Word - Subscript out of range". None of the [Accounts] fields are available in the downloaded data.
Can anyone tell me how to include the appropriate Account fields without any Contact fields (which pulls a separate Merge record for every Contact linked with the selected Account)?
    Thanks.

Thanks for trying to help with this.
So far, we've been unable to pull even a SINGLE account record. So the problem is not related to data volume limitations. The tool seems to require that Contacts are selected, but for this application we only want a single merge document per Account.
If anyone else has had success using the Mail Merge for Word tool to pull only Account data, please give us your guidance. Thanks.

  • What is new in RoboHelp 8 for Word ?

Did Adobe make any fixes or add any new stuff to the RH for Word with the version 8?
The only features they describe where RH for Word is mentioned on the Feature page was how to NOT install it by default.
Any one using this that used past versions see differences?

    Hi there
Colum is a teensy bit misleading in his reply. Certainly he is spot on with most of it, but the bit about WinHelp not being supported out of the box on Vista is technically incorrect.
What is technically correct is that 32 bit WinHelp is not directly supported. The first time you attempt to run a 32 bit WinHelp file you are prompted to download the 32 bit WinHelp display engine. But support out of the box is there for 16 bit WinHelp with no download needed.

What version are you using? Search highlighting in WebHelp was introduced in version 7.

The interface for RoboHelp HTML is easier to use than Word. The biggest hurdle many face is the loss of Tab Stops. You really would do yourself a favor if you tried RoboHelp HTML. It too is a very nice (and mature) product.

I do use RoboHtml for some smaller help systems, but those are mostly help systems that contain less than 50 pages. To maintain my afore mentioned WebHelp system using RoboHtml would, unfortunately, very much decrease my productivity....
I'd say it depends greatly on how you structured your content. I never noticed that I had any sort of productivity loss as a result of switching. Sure, you have multiple documents with many topics in each document. In the RoboHelp HTML world each topic is an HTML page. But you knew that already. What I'm guessing may be news for you is that you may organize HTML pages into folders.
