RH8 HTML: WebHelp on Mac OSX cuts off search pane
Hi,
I generate Webhelp using a skin.
It looks fine on the PC in IE7 and Firefox 3.5.8.
On Mac OS 10.4 using Safari or Firefox (latest versions), the text that is at the top of the search pane is cut off by the search results pane.
Here is how the search pane looks in browsers on the PC (correct):
And here is how it looks in FF and Safari on the Mac (incorrect - "Search results per page" and checkbox are covered by lower results pane):
Is there some way to prevent this from happening on the Mac? I need to produce a single webhelp file that can be viewed using both platforms.

Another fix is also required (to fix a similar problem on the Index pane)
In the same folder, edit the file whidhtml.htm and change:

I just have to add that I am absolutely amazed at the quick reply I received after filing this as a bug report.

Mac windows cut off files at right hand edge
In most apps, I choose to open a window to look for a file.
After about two or three steps down in the hierarchy (I'm at 1440x900 monitor resolution) I have to drag to expand the window or the rightmost file list is cut off by the edge of the window.
Why doesn't the window scroll as you progress down through nested folders, so the contents of your most recently inspected folder are completey visible?
Is this a bug, a "feature" of the OS or a setting that I can change somewhere?

The OS X version of Lightroom (the app itself) has a bug with rendering panels that causes interior content to sometimes overextend the width of the column. It doesn't happen all the time, but it will happen from time to time.
To fix the issue, hover over the vertical divider between the work area and the panels, click, hold, and expand the panels all the way to the left until you stop. Then quit/relaunch Lightroom. The panel content should reset and be back in view.

My mac randomly cut off and it won't turn back on, what do I do?
I just bought my mac the other day and I was about to Facetime someone and it randomly cut off and it will not do anything. It wont even charge. I don't know anything about computers so I have no clue what to do. PLEEEAAASSSEEE HEELLPP!!
If it's new, then it is under warranty. Please make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service. If it is a used computer then you need to provide more information. If your battery will not take a charge, then either the charger is not working or the battery needs to be replaced or both.

Patch 8.0.1 negates custom popup size [RH8 html, Webhelp]
I installed RH8 patch 8.0.1, and am finding the custom pop-up sizes I set are no long in effect.
Per our approach, we insert an image into its own html topic.
The image is then called as a pop-up in a step-by-step topic.
Prior to the patch, the pop-up window size was 5-8 pixels taller and wider than the image and displayed with a nice white margin:

Following the patch installation, the pop-up defaults to a scrolling window, irrespective of the custom window size. i.e. I tested custom sized pop-ups that were 5 - 15 pixels larger than the image width and height dimensions, and all resulted in the same size window, with scrollbar, as shown here:

I'd given up on this problem and uninstalled the 8.0.1 patch. We have 1265 image topics, with multiple pop-up instances for each image topic. I need a correction for every custom-sized pop-up.
I can see the decision not to install the upgrade was short-sighted, however, as the next patch 8.0.2 is critical if we hope to have a stable project.
How would I use search and replace to revise 1265 custom pop-up sizes? Can you demonstrate given the example above? The image is 200x135. The pop-up size in the existing project is 205x140. With the new patch, the pop-up size needs to be 213x158. What do I use as a search term in a mass search and replace to avoid fixing one pop-up at a time? Surely you don't suggest I find the code and do the mental math to add 13 and 23 to the original dimensions for 1265n pop-ups? Sorry if I'm missing the obvious.
Is there any chance I can use search and replace to modify the html to insert something like, scrollbars=no, instead?
On another tact, external research suggests the scrollbars disappear in Internet Explorer if I work with the css properties governing scrollbar colors, as referenced here so the color matches the background window color.

RH8 HTML - WebHelp: Topic link in TOC goes to wrong topic
I just got my upgrade to RH8 today, and I must say it has NOT been a pleasant experience so far. This issue is just one of many I will probably be posting in the next few days.
I have one RH file that I use to create two versions of help text, using conditional tags to separate out the content. In RH 7 this has worked very well. After my upgrade to RH8 today, I generated each of these files, and discovered that one of the files has the incorrect topic attached to the link in the TOC. I checked the TOC in RH, and everything is fine. I also checked the breadcrumbs, which show the correct location, and I checked the conditional tags and conditional build expressions, but still the wrong topic is displayed.
Has the way conditional tags worked changed in any way? I haven't changed anything in the files today, just opened them in RH8. My conditional build expression is created so that if the tag exists on the topic, it is included in the generated help, but there are many topics that include two conditional tags. These seem to be the ones that have the issues.
On top of this, if I am in help A and I search for a topic that is in help B, it still shows me topics that should only be included in help B.
Seriously. Can all this get messed up simply by opening my help file in RH8? On my first day using it? What other unpleasant surprises do I have in store? Well, other than that nasty looking search results box with the big numbered rank column I can't get rid of.
KariWell, I've discovered a solution to this initial problem, and it has nothing to do with the conditional tags. I think I'll have to start a new discussion to get a resolution to why those don't seem to be working correctly.
After trying a number of things, I stumbled upon the fix, which is, as I've come to expect, completely illogical.
In reviewing the html for the help topic that wasn't appearing correctly, I noticed that the topic was associated with a template called "Main". I inherited this help project, and have never used the templates, always relying on a .css file to handle the styles and formatting. If I went into the topic properties and changed the template to "none", then re-generated the project, the topic link in the TOC went to the correct file.
One problem solved, though why it works is still beyond me. Now on to the conditional build issue!

RoboHelp HTML 9 Search Pane Max results controls
RoboHelp HTML 9 with WebHelp as output...
I have a two part question. By default when our users do a search in compile dhelp, they see 10 search results per page. Is there a place in my RoboHelp interface where I can change that to larger number? I have found a line of code in a *.js file where it looks like I could manually change it, but would prefer not to have to do it that route in case that causes unintended hiccups elsewhere.

Second part of my question is related to statement in release notes/new features notes for RoboHelp 9 that state users can control the max search results per page on-the-fly as they use the Search pane. This feature only applies to WebHelp or WebHelp Pro and my output is WebHelp. I can see a line of code for that feature in the whfform.htm file but nothing shows up like that in the Search pane within compiled help. Is this a bug or is there a control somewhere in RoboHelp project settings that allows me to enable that option for users? The last 2 lines below would seem to control this area. The Search pane items referenced in first 4 lines do show up ok in my Search pane.

KFI know this is an old topic, but I was trying to figure this out myself today and finally found it. In case others have been looking for this, it's in in this file:
whform.js
find this variable:
var gnMaxRslt = 10;
and then change the 10 to the number you want.
If you do that in the generated help, the number will change in the Search pane, but it will still display only 10 results. To get it to actually display more than 10 results, I had to edit the RoboHelp file, not the generated help. I made a copy of C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 10\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock\whform.js before I edited it. (Right-click the file, click Copy, then right-click in the folder and click Paste. Edit the one that doesn't say Copy in the filename. Then if you want to back it out, delete the one you edited and remove Copy from the original.) If you have your project open in RoboHelp, close it, then reopen it so it can "grab" the new info.
This ought to be in the WebHelp Setting dialog box on the Search pane.

Running on OSx 10.6.8 using a new HP Officejet 6000 printer. How can I get to within 1/8" on all sides of an 8.5x11 sheet of paper. Images and copy cuts off at 5/8" at bottom. HP says it's a mac problem, not an HP problem. I tried every combination of print settings. Nothing has solved the problem. Have I missed something?
Yes you are unfortunately you as the consumer are caught in the middle. I totally disagree with what HP told you, they supply the print drivers to Apple, Apple doesn't write printer drivers that I know of. Look in the print settings to see if you can go below 5/8", I know I can with my HP printers (Laserjet 1012, Color Laserjet 2600N, OfficeJet 7410 & OfficeJet 7700 series) so I'm sure the issue is specific to the OJ6000 series.

When I right click on a link, the usual menu I used to get in older versions of firefox still shows up. However, it shows up in a box that's much, much smaller than the size of the box in previous versions. The text gets cut off and while I can scroll up and down, I can't scroll left to right to read the text of the option. Actually, I've noticed that this happens with most right click menus now.
For example, if I right-click on a link, I get:

All of the system and Firefox fontsize, menu size etc. are at their default. I haven't changed anything.You can check for problems caused by a corrupted localstore.rdf file.

You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

My Mac won't fully start up.. I push the power button, the apple sign pops up and the loading circle and then a bar loading and as soon as the bar is done loading the computer cuts off again. It's like it attempts to start up like it's updating something and then after the bar is full, it shuts off. Please help

I have recently purchased MacBook Pro with Mac OSX 10.7.3 Lion and I would like to install Final Cut Pro 6 Studio2, and it came up with this error: 'you can't open application FinalCutProStudio.mpkg because PowerPc apps are no longer supported......Is there a way to run FCP6 on lion withoput this error? MPEG2 codec not working in Final Cut Pro on Mac OSX Tiger
We have been using the File-export-Quicktime Conversion-MPEG2 codec for exporting of files from Final Cut Pro to DVD Studio Pro. On the new mac system that was just bought, the option does not show up.
Currently the system is running Quicktime Pro 7.1.2/ FCP 5 and DVD Studio Pro 4 and it is a new mac system running Mac OSX Tiger.
This problem has happened before on a mac running on an older system, but that was solved by reinstalling FCP and then DVD Studio pro and making sure that the QT Pro was of the latest version.
Right now, we have reinstalled everything the same way, tried installing DVD Studio Pro after, we have also done a full software update of the software over the net.
The codec is still not working, all the macs in the office are supposed to be upgraded to Mac osx tiger, but right now we can't do so, cos then we wouldn't be able to burn any DVDs.
Please help, thanks.The installation of QT 7 is the culprit behind the missing MPEG-2 Export Component. But during upgrades, it doesn't always get rid of the file ... probably what happened on your older system when you upgraded to QT 7 or Tiger. Either the new system came with QT 7 preinstalled, therefore not including the Export Component, or if it was upgraded, the upgrade missed it.

How do I get Windows's off my MacBook and Mac osx back on?
I purchased a MacBook (A1181) off eBay "for parts" but the only thing it needed was a new battery. I turned it on and everything worked fine, only problem is that it's running Windows 7 professional and is password protected. When I contacted the eBay seller they said the Mac was supposed to be wiped clean and they could not help me because it was sold "for parts." I cannot log in to wipe and I don't have any original discs or any Mac osx discs. I want windows off and a fresh copy or snow leopard on my MacBook. PLEASE HELP
You can use a Snow Leopard retail install disk to erase the drive and install 10.6 Snow Leopard.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window.
Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Disk Utility and click it. You should see your hard drive in the left hand column along with your other drives. Click on the drive and select the Erase tab. Set the format value to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) and click the Erase button. After that has finished select the Partition tab. Type in a Name for your hard drive and select how many partitions you want from the Volume Scheme. The usual setting is one partition. Click on the Options button after you've selected a partition to make sure it's set for GUID. Then click the Apply button and after the Partitioning is done quit Disk Utility.

I would prefer to use Webhelp and not Webhelp Pro because Webhelp allow for the insertion of a logo located to the right of the search field by selecting the "Show About" check box when generating content. The problem is that Webhelp is cutting off the words in the tables. Wordwrap is turned on in the Word document and the rest of the sentence will continue beneath the "cut off" word.
You would only use WebHelp Pro if you were using RH Server – that’s what the “pro” versions of output are for. I would suggest that something’s wrong with your table definition. You talk about a Word document – is this the source or the output you’re talking about?
