Rhythmbox out of gnome-extra?

Hi there,
wasn't Rhythmbox in gnome-extra?
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Gnome_Tips still says it's on gnome-extra and I think I remember installing arch before without having to install rhythmbox manually.
Bug or "feature" in the meta-package?

OK, me likes it
cool interface, fully customizable playlist columns... thanks
EDIT: that repository is outdated too

  • Unable to install gnome-extra

    Hello,
    I'm attempting to install gnome-extra.  It appears that gnome3 was moved out of testing just this afternoon. When I attempt to install gnome-extra I get this error:
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: gnome-vfs: requires gnome-mime-data
    I don't really want to enable testing...don't even know if that would help.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

    I tried different mirrors and ran reflector for the latest ones when I set up.  Even tried archlinux.org.  Filed a bug about it, so that someone might check into it.
    Thanks for your suggestions.

  • Exaile not finding gnome-extra [Solved]

    Hello fellow archers, I just made the switch from Openbox to GNOME and decided to try out the music player Exaile.  Everything works fine except I can't get the extra information to show such as lyrics, wiki etc.  I checked the log and it says:
    gnome-extras not available. Not showing artist or album information
    So I checked to make sure that I had installed all the gnome-extras so I did a:
    pacman -S gnome-extra
    and it shows that all of it was installed, so no problems there.  I went to Exaile's website at Exaile.org and there it says I need python-gnome2-extras or a similar named package.  Now, I can't find this package on pacman, so I assume that gnome-extra was it.  However that doesn't explain why exaile can't find my gnome-extras.  Thanks, I appreciate the help.

    Sweet, that fixed it up real nice, thanks a lot.

  • GDM does not appear back after logging out from Gnome.

    Hello,
    I am tryingout Archlinux for the first time. I am able to goto run level 5 and after booting I get the GDM login screen. I can log in to Gnome. But when I log out from Gnome, GDM does not appear, but I get a black screen. Then, the only way to come out is to press the reset button.
    What may be the problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    Anand

    it may depend on how ur running gdm, (possibly with -*no-daemon option) .. in which case it'd prolly werk if u removed it...
    although i'd recommend using rc.conf instead as it's a lot cleaner...
    to use /etc/rc.conf
    add gdm to the DAEMONS;
    mine = "DAEMONS=(gdm @syslog-ng @network @alsa @httpd)"
    that starts gdm(in daemon mode), then starts syslog-ng,net*,alsa and apache in the background .. save me about 6 seconds when i background em.
    then you need to change the default runlevel in /etc/inittab to 3 (not 5)

  • Missing package in gnome-extra group

    The package gnopernicus in the gnome-extra group depends on gnome-speech package which doesn't exist. Neither the package itself exists nor does have an entry in the database file.
    pacman -Si gnopernicus
    You'll find that it depends on gnome-speech
    pacman -Si gnome-speech
    You'll find that it doesn't exist

    same here
    ...you could just say no when it asks if it wants to install that package

  • [SOLVED] Problem installing gnome-extra packages

    I have completed the installation and all that left is gnome-extra packages. I fetched the packages and after the integrity check it says
    Failed to commit transaction invalid or corrupted packages
    gnome-games-3.0.21- <pacgae_info> is either invalid or corrupted
    and the installation exits.
    Now how do I fix this. I tried forcing the upgrade process by pacman -Syu but to no avail. Can you help me fixing the issue.
    Regards

    Ok I solved the problem.
    First I removed the problematic packages from /var/cache/pacman/pkg and then used rankmirrors to get the best mirror.
    After that used pacman -Syy to refresh and reinstalled the gnome-extra package .. Working fine
    Thanks

  • Need a gnome-extra workaround

    Hi there.  The bug with the gnome-extra package (corrupted Dasher package) has been present for a while now and the bug is still seems to be unassigned.  Is there a workaround that would allow me to get most of the gnome-extra packages installed until this issue gets resolved?
    Thanks.

    When asked about installing whole group, answer no. Pacman will then prompt you for each package seperately. Say no (N)  to dasher and yes (Y)  for the rest.

  • Problems installing gnome-extra meta package

    I have not been able to intstall the gnome-extra meta package.   I receive an error that the dasher package file size cannot be calculated and pacman crashes.  I've tried different mirrors with the same result.
    Any ideas?

    Yes, dasher is corrupted, It has been reported as a bug so it should be fixed soon.

  • Intsall gnome-extra error?

    The error goes like:
    #pacman -S gnome-extra
    :: group .....
    resolving dependencies...
    error: cannot resolve "t1lib", a dependency of "evince"
    error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
    :: evince: requires t1lib
    can anybody help me? thanks in advance.

    Yes, I did as you mentioned.
    1. [extra]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    2. the only server of ftp.archlinux.org was left
    But it still the same problem! :-(
    schizoid wrote:

    and make sure you have Server = ftp://ftp.archlinux.org/$repo/os/i686 in the first line
    if any of these were the culprits
    do a
    #pacman -Sy

  • Getting into -- and out of -- Gnome

    I've never been a Gnome user and don't really plan to become one, but I would like to install Gnome -- or enough of Gnome as is necessary -- to try out how Metacity handles current-generation 3d effects. I need a little advice, though:
    (1) Can I try Metacity without going whole-hog with Gnome? Or is it part-and-parcel of Gnome?
    (2) If I do install Gnome, how complex is it to uninstall everything later? Is pacman -R enough to do the job? I know, of course, that I can simply leave Gnome installed and chose not to use it, but I'll be wanting to get rid of Gnome and everything Gnomish after my trial -- unless I'm just blown away, which is always possible.
    I currently have KDE4.1 and Xfce4 installed, and I don't plan to remove them.
    Thanks.

    Well, I'll say this much for Arch. You can get Gnome up and running in under five minutes, if you have a reasonably fast internet connection (I needed 40+ packages).
    As far as the Gnome/Metacity compositing effects go: they're, shall we say, understated by by comparison with KDE4/Kwin and Compiz-Fusion. Nice shadows along window edges, a generally more lush appearance than vanilla Gnome and perhaps than KDE4.1, plus some very basic Alt-Tab window switching with a little transparency. That's all I've discovered thus far.
    Either they're aiming at a different target -- i.e., trying to be light on resources while intentionally downplaying the razzamatazz that you can get with Compiz and Kwin -- or they're just behind in their development. Since I have the choice of Compiz and Kwin, I really don't mind if Gnome moves along a different path. But then I don't know a thing about the Gnome roadmap for special desktop effects and haven't yet attempted to find out.

  • Logging out of gnome is slow

    Every time I log out it takes about 20-30 seconds. It happens on gnome-shell and fallback.
    dmesg shows:
    gnome-settings-[3119]: segfault at 7fd7a2279210 ip 00007fd7a2279210 sp 00007fff4f3ffdb8 error 14 in libdbus-1.so.3.5.3[7fd7a28ea000+43000]

    I've tested various login managers and desktop environments, and it seems to have something todo with gdm and with a "framebuffer mode" issue (which I don't understand much). The problem occurs with various desktop environments, apparently as long as I log in with gdm. It doesn't seem to happen if I use startx from the console. At some point, I added vga=771 in my grub menu.lst file, ie.  from:
    title          Arch Linux (kernel26)
    root         (hd0,2)
    kernel       /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro noacpi acpi=0ff
    to:
    title          Arch Linux (kernel26)
    root         (hd0,2)
    kernel      /boot/vmlinuz26 root=/dev/sda3 ro vga=771 noacpi acpi=off
    As a result, it gave me a multitude of "gdm-binary WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.06... seconds" errors. It didn't even start gdm, and when I killed it, it gave "Fatal Server error: Cannot run in framebuffer mode ..." errors.
    I would like to fix the error "(EE) open /dev/fb0: No such file or directory" that pops up in Xorg.0.log, but I don't know how to. Any help would be appreciated.

  • Extract the area selection code out of gnome-screenshot

    Long ago, I asked about a tool for selecting a screen area and get the geometry of it, and I did get very helpful feedback from Hashbox, and in the end produced a tool called xrectsel.
    But the flaw with xrectsel is that if while dragging the rectangle, some other application redraws its window, your selection is very messed up. This seems to be a common flaw in tools like scrot, import, etc.
    OTOH, gnome-screenshot actually draws a window which prevents such a problem. Its selection is also pleasing to the eye. So I'm requesting help to extract the screen area selection part from gnome-screenshot.
    All the relevant code is in this file:
    https://github.com/GNOME/gnome-screensh … election.c
    Anyone who has some experience with writing in GTK / C should find what I'm asking fairly easy, I suppose?

    Okay. Well sorry about the post. I'll try to fix it all then.For starters, look at this "test" code:
    PhoneNumber number=new PhoneNumber();
    PhoneNumber code=new PhoneNumber();Do you really need two PhoneNumber objects to hold one phone number?

  • Accidentally logged out of Gnome during VNC session (Solved)

    The title says it all; I'm stuck with SSH, and x11vnc won't start when no one is logged in. I didn't know this. Now I know
    Is there any way to log myself back in so I can start x11vnc again?
    Harry
    EDIT: Stopped GDM manually, created an .xinitrc file with "exec gnome-session" in it, and then ran xinit. Piece of cake

    I know this is marked "solved," but is there any way to give myself the GDM login screen so gnome-settings-daemon functions properly?

  • Is there a way to export layers as files with out all the extra numbers in the prefix?

    Hi everyone
    I've officially spent 8 hours researching this topic and I can't seem to get anywhere...
    i want to export a bunch of layers to files. I know about the layers to file script, that's not what I'm asking. I'm asking how to get rid of the "0000_0000" that like to show up for no aparent reason.
    I have numerous sepaaret psd's with about 10-25 layers each so I don't want to have to go through the bridge and rename everysingle time...
    Thanks so much in advance!
    cheers

    One could, I assume, inactivate line 1023
            fileNameBody += "_" + zeroSuppress(i, 4);
    by adding »//« at the beginning or deleting it.
    But maybe someone else has a custom Script for the task anyway.
