Rich Client functionality in jdev 10.1.3 ?

I'm wondering if there are any possibility to get ADF Rich Client functionality, like clientListeners in JDev 10.1.3 ?
What I'm looking for is to use a javascript or something to execute a commandButton on load of a jsp page.
Any ideas?

ADF Faces Rich Client depends upon JSF 1.2, whereas JDeveloper 10.1.3.x only supports JSF 1.1; therefore, no. However, have a read of section 10.5.4.3 of [url http://database.in2p3.fr/doc/oracle/Oracle_Application_Server_10_Release_3/web.1013/b25947/bcdcpal005.htm]this for some possible ideas

JDev 11g: Task Flows,Rich Client- some questions to the Oracle team

We're currently involved (early stages) in a large project with a Jan-Mar 2008 pilot delivery timeframe - one heavily including end-user customizable workflow elements, to which the aforementioned JDev/ADF 11 features would be a great fit.
Our plans so far were to go ADF with BC and include Shale or Spring WebFlow plus custom development to provide for the very same things that the feature-complete Task Flows will offer.
Questions:
1. Delivery timeframe - any unofficial pointers on the schedule for the next JDev/ADF releases?
2. Platform compatibility - Will the framework (ADF) run on J2EE 1.3 (OAS 10.1.2.x) or does it require 1.4+?
3. Design-time-at-runtime for Task Flows - Do we have it in the released bits? (Couldn't find it). Any pointers on how is it supposed to operate?
4. Am I right to think that what we're seeing with Task Flows is (among other things) a piece of the replacement functionality for the decommissioned Oracle Workflow subsystem (which bit us, by the way, as it was part of our original architecture).
5. Will Rich Client support older platforms than the currently supported IE7 and Firefox 2?

Regarding my question 3 "Design time at runtime" - quoting from "JDeveloper 11g new features" at the above URL, under "ADF Task Flow". The third entry from the paragraph's end reads:
'Support for customization of task flows at runtime using "design time at runtime"'.
I was wondering what this is exactly - web-deployable editor to edit the flow definition after deployment?
Re your point 4, product replacement - with the feature set described in the paragraph above, Task Flows is much more than a Web UI controller. With "save for later", transactions, flow abstraction/nesting, BPEL outcalls, conditional logic, method calls etc etc it probably covers 50% of a typical workflow package and 75% of an embeddable workflow library (audit trail/timeouts/persistence nonwithstanding). This made me wonder whether it is part of a bigger, yet-to-be-announced OAS feature. Especially if one also considers the "design-time-at-runtime" sentence listed above.
Now, definition-wise, I guess it' s whether this feature set is considered half-full or half-empty :-)

The two use the same format and reports are interchangable. The big difference is that Rich Client can work offline and can import local files.

JDeveloper as Rich Client Platform?

is it possible to remove all default extensions in Developer or SQL Developer and only use custom extensions?
This means, is it possible to do something similar to the Eclipse Rich Client Platform? Has someone already tried this ?

You would like to remove all the extensions that make JDev look like a developers's IDE. You would like to keep the plugin infrastructure that allows the development of modules of 'business functionality' (banking, science, media arts etc) as plug-in extensions. The application will not look like an IDE but we would have the flexibility to use JDev features (such as the wizards infrastructure, or the various viewers) in our applications
In other words, we would like the Eclipse RCP functionality and the ADF framework in a nice integrated package. Unfortunately, I don't think that this is going to happen any time soon. Otherwise, Oracle would have already made an attempt to create an ADF plugin for Eclipse...

I have finally designed query as measure variable but not getting any output as it is parsing successfully. please help. Also let me know how to insert this measure variable to a column.

Select Query Resutls - operand for WebI Rich Client XI3.0 not available?

Hi ,
Using Deski we put a filter condition on a query using the deski query panel. Also we can select resutls from another query in the same report (query from a differen dataprovider) using the operand Select Query Resutls(any).
However in Web Intelligence Rich Client for XI3.0 we don't have this operand so we can not filter using results from another query in the same report.
Does anyone know how to work around this problem?
Know any plans for this feature ? As you all know, this is an extremely powerful feature.

Rich client allows you to import a text or excel file on the fly to your report. To filter what you have you could build entries into the excel file, import, merge dimensions and voila, have your filtering done. It does seem dumb to do it this way when a quick filter is all you want. I'm with you in that the quick filter functionality would be highly desirable.

First of all thank you for your support on this forum.
I have a hypothetical question though... In our development process we are entering a phase when we need to start working on application... We took a look into Jdev11 and ADF RC, and really liked it - it has many components that our users are already used to in Oracle Forms, like dropdown menus, toolbars and most important the ability to have spread tables. We are wondering, if we start development with Jdev 11 next month and are planning to have the application production ready by the end of Q12008, what are our chances of having Jdev 11 to be production ready, and how significant the changes will be between the current version and prod release?
I understand, you cannot answer these question, but could give me a hint, or a 'wink' as to what to expect. I would really appreciate it. We could start going with Jdev 10.1.3.3, but we really like new componnts in Jdev 11.

[solved] problems w/rich client component demo

I've been trying to run the rich client component demo as described in http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/adf/adffaces/11/doc/demo/adf_faces_rc_demo.html
in TP2 of JDeveloper 11. I've run into a few problems. (I am assuming that the article will work as written in TP2 since the date on the article is September 2007.)
(minor) The link to the demo under the "Running the Demo from Oracle JDeveloper" section is broken. The link in the section for "Installing the ADF Faces Component Demo on a Standalone OC4J" works.
Attempt #1: When I create the project from the WAR file and try to run index.jspx, JDev tries to compile the project. It shows the following errors:

Nevermind. I thought I had TP2 but I think it was really TP1. Creating (and running) the project from the WAR file works for me now.

TP4 / ADF Rich client demo just downloaded from otn / 41 compiling errors !

I just downloaded ADF Riche client demo and installed it jdev tp4.
Rebuild causes 41 compilation errors and the application is not runnable.
Is it a way to solve this ?
Some of the errors:

Server to Rich Client sending XML over Http

I need to send XML data from a Servlet to a rich client over http.
Currently I am using HttpURLConnection and SaxTransformerFactory to do this.
Is it better to use SOAP or XML-RPC in this scenario?
Are there any good online tutorials comparing SOAP, XML-RPC and AXP-Java Net API?
What are the factors that I need to consider for choosing between these alternatives?

XML-RPC and SOAP use XML as a way to communicate, but they are used to invoke certain function calls in an application independend manner, not to be used to send XML data. So I'd say it depends on:
a) what do you do with the XML data?
b) will you be expanding the application?
c) how difficult is it to rework the current implementation?

However, I am able to Successfully Create and Refresh the Same report in WEBI RICH CLIENT.
I am able to successfully run the query in "Teradata SQL Assistant"
I am just Retrieving 1 month of Data.
Our Database is TeraData.
Please advise, what is causing the issue. Appreciate your swift Response. Need to send this report for UAT by tomorrow.

This Report is not Live to schedule the report. It is under Build phase. I need to send this report UAT(User Acceptance Test). I afraid, they may get same error, when they try to refresh the report.
- Refresh the report is one of the Test case. This Test case should pass without any error.
Aswell, for your question: I am applying Sum function for the reocords at Universe Level. Not at the Report Level. I have not used any report level Variables.

ADF Rich Client Faces af:table editingMode="clickToEdit" event handling

I have a table with editingMode="clickToEdit" that contains columns with inputText with values that map to Eclipselink JPA Entity bean properties.
I am struggling to find an event that I can monitor that would allow me to persist or cancel the changes the user enters. I might add "Commit" and "Cancel" commands in their own columns but then I would like to have an event that allow me to enable and disable those commandButtons. In any event I would like to capture the fact that a row has entered editing mode with either a clientListener or a servletListener.
Is any of this possible?
Frank's suggestion in Re: Edit Specific Row on click of button in ADF table implies that the table be re-rendered and I would specifically like to avoid that as it is disturbing to the user to have the entire table redrawn, particularly when the size of the table exceeds the displayed rows.

I suppose I didn't ask my question properly. I have been persisting POJO and JPA beans with ADF Faces, Trinidad and ADF Faces Rich Client since 2004 and I have a hundred thousand lines of library code to manage that.
The tricky thing about <af:tables (and <tr:tables for that matter) is that it is challenging to render individual rows or cells and re-rendering the entire table is disruptive to the user experience. My normal practice is to allow the user to select a row and then click an edit button that re-renders an edit panel (or detail stamp) which contains a submit button. However, for small simple tables this is overkill and in-line editing would be very attractive. The WONDERFUL thing about <af:table editingMode="clickToEdit" is that the user can enter an EDIT mode without redrawing the table.
My problem is that I have not yet discovered an event that I can monitor to let me know that the user has done this. What I think that I want is something like the clientListener selection event that would fire when the editingMode state changed: a clientListener editingMode event.
If I use the clientListener selection event, is there any way I can determine editingMode state of the row?

Corba error when running rich clients in 3-tier mode.

I am dealing with an Error when running Rich Clients (WebI and DeskI) with 3-tier ODBC connection to the server.
The client does come up and I'm able to create the query but when the data in refreshed I do get the error:
A database error occured. The database error text is: (CS) "CORBA Initialization failed". (WIS 10901).
I have a test server which I'm able to do this kind of connection without a problem but when I try to connect to the Prod server in 3-tier data connection mode throught the server I get this error.
My setup is:
BO XI R 3.1 FP. 2.1
Clients are also updated with FP 2.1
The data sources are Oracle and Teradata.

Error in Web Intelligence Rich Client Test

I am taking the SAP BusinessObjects XI 3.0/3.1: Universe Design course online. Following the steps in the exercise on creating classes and objects, I received an error when testing the objects in Web Intelligence Rich Client. I created a Client Name dimrension using the format CLIENT.CLIENT_LASTNAME + ", "+CLIENT.CLIENT_FIRSTNAME in Universe Designer. When testing I came up with an error, WIS 00011
The Object(s): Client Name contain multiple attributes. This syntax is no longer supported in this version. See your Business Objects Administrator.
I followed the instructions in the exercise. Does anyone know what I did wrong?

When you write a select statement the different columns are separated by a comma, as this:
select a, b, c from table
BusinessObjects doesn't like to see that syntax (multiple columns) in a single object, so they look for a comma. It appears that in the version you are using they have broken the parsing process, and they don't realize that your comma is inside quotes and that you're not really using multiple columns.
You can fix this by using a function to return a comma character. If you are using MS Access, that function would be Chr(). The comma character is number 44, so you could try this:
CLIENT.CLIENT_LASTNAME + " " + Chr(44) + " " +CLIENT.CLIENT_FIRSTNAME
But you should know that the syntax you have works fine most of the time.
