RID master is offline

We are hosting new ADC (DC3) on WIN 2k8, getting error you cannot install an additional Domain controller at this time because the RID master (DC1) is offline. our requirement for replication is as follows
DC3-DC2-DC1
there is no direct connection between DC3 and DC1, replication between DC2(WIN 2k3) and DC1(WIN 2k3) is fine. We have created the site and connections as
DC2-DC1
DC3-DC2.
Please suggest.

In order for Directory Services to work there are a few roles that the DC's need to have access to and it sounds like the FSMO roles should reside on DC2 since both sites have access to this DC.
http://www.petri.co.il/understanding_fsmo_roles_in_ad.htm#
I would run:
netdom query fsmo
Find out where your current FSMO roles reside and gracefully trasfer them to this DC.  Hopefully the new DC you are promoting has access to DC2.
How to transfer FSMO roles
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/324801/en-us
Once moved and replication has completed, retry to promote your DC.

  • RID Master not allocating new rid pool

     Hi guys,
I am having some problems with my server. I am unable to create new AD objects with the message, the directory has exhausted the pool of relative identifiers. I have a SBS 2003 environment with only that as the DC. However, a while ago, the previous
admin promoted another server (Server 2003) as a Backup DC and later on the network was split and the Secondary DC no longer connected to the domain. It was not demoted or anything like that. The network was split in two and now after almost a year I am unable
to create new objects. The PDC has all the FSMO roles as indicated when i run the netdom query fsmo command. Below is the dcdiag /v output:

Also, another problem I am experiencing seems to point to my DNS service which also runs on the same machine. When I try to open Active Directory snap ins, it indicates that the domain does not exist or cannot be contacted and the AD is unable to load.
I'd really appreciate any help at the moment. Thanks in advance.

    Idan,
Yes I followed the article regarding removing data in AD with NTDSUTIL. There is one domain and one site, but it states that there is "no current server" and "no current naming context"
My TCP/IP config was set to 127.0.0.1 but then I changed it to point to its static IP Address, but I stumbled onto a best practice article which indicated that the 127 address was preferred, so I changed it back. I changed it as you said and ran the commands

Destination DC largest delta fails/total %% error

Experienced the following operational errors trying to retrieve replication information:
    58 - wsgbdc.WSG.local
In the event viewer there are two errors in the Directory Service, Error ID 2089 and 1864 both regarding replication not taking place.

  • How to configure Failed RID master in Windows 2000 SP4 DC?

We are still using windows 2000 SP4 server due to application compatiblity of our core application, this error has occur during a fire here in our office then the physical server itself, migrated to our DR site, then after that event the physical server
itself join again to its original place where as, in H.O branch.
    First Problem:
Now our branch office site users always fails to log to their workstation, we still need to reset their password again and again after the day ends , and it will come back again tomorrow.
    Second Problem:
When we are adding a user account it always say's "Windows cannot create the object because the Directory Service was unable to allocate a relative identifier" it predict that the RID master has been corrupted because of the migration
    from site to site,
Can I still have answers here even though this is way way to obsolete from microsoft, I need help please :)

Hi thanks for your kind reply,
No, there are 4 DC in our environment but the forest root DC has the problem, I only create user accounts, I still not creating other object in active directory.and also the replication between root DC and other DC has problems. but I think its in the DNS
part, just need step by step process. :)
I'll give it a try on what you suggest but is this tried and tested? because when you replicate from corrupted FSMO roles DC, the new DC will also infected with errors,
By the way I already tried ntdsutil to fix the AD database and all are passed.

  • Master Image Offline

I have imported GBs worth of referenced images and the now the files say "master image offline" as you would expect but when I connect it does not change. Then I try manage referenced files and its says HD 3 is offline when it is on the desktop and even in the browser in the lower half of the pop up.

I have the exact same problem. I've spent well over 1 1/2 hours with lame techies who were of no help at all. This morning I had to restore my computer to a few days ago, before I was having operating system problems. I imported my aperture vault from my external hard drive and then once this was opened I see that all of my photos show as offline and not linked, despite the fact that they reside on the Pictures folder on the Mac HD. I excluded the Aperture Library from the Time Machine backup.
Anyway I can only successfully reconnect in the Manage Referenced files dialog box if I do each file individually. Not exactly an option considering the volume. I am hating Leopard and Aperture at the moment.

  • Master Files Offline??

I am using aperture 3 and OSX 10.7.2 When I got aperture, I imported my iPhoto Library.
I noticed any pictures taken before that time, there is a icon in each picture - which means the Master Files is offline.
When i try to delete those pictures - I get the error - Master Files Offline - Some master files are stored on volumes that are offline: *My Mac
"My Mac" is my internal drive and is online. When I right click one of the photos, click locate referenced file - The path that aperture think it is - is indeed the actual path. So I navigate through the tree and locate the file (same exact path) and click Reconnect or Reconnect All - and then that one photo is now linked and all is well.
The problem is - I am guessing I have at least 1000 if not more photos with this condition. Anyone know how to fix this on a larger scale? Any new photos taken are fine -
THank you anyone who knows this in advance!
My Mac is online .... its like there is some old pointer that is gone so the software thinks its offline - until i relink it

The easiest way to reconnect many masters at once would be to create a smart album that contains only the images that need reconnecting:
File -> New -> Smart Album
    then add a rule:
File status -> Offline (or Missing)
Then select all image in that album and select File -> reconnect master
    Regards
    Léonie

The current Domain Controller is the Operations Master. To Transfer the Operations Master to a different Domain
Controller, you need to target Active Directory Schema to that Domain Controller.
and when I try using ntdsutils :

  • What does Master Image Offline mean?

I tried to bring up the Master Image for a particular photo and got the message "Master Image Offline" and all of my adjustment options were grayed out so that I couldn't use them. Can somebody explain what this means and how I can still make adjustments to this picture? Also, I guess I should be asking how I can prevent this situation from happening in the future. Thanks.

It means you're using referenced masters and Aperture can't find the original file. Either the disk it's on is not attached, or you moved, renamed, or deleted the file using the Finder or another application.
You can tell Aperture where it is, but you must manually do so.

  • Master Files Offline, cannot reconnect.

Hello I made the switch to Aperture from iPhoto.
Imported my iPhoto library making sure files would be stored in the 'Aperture Library' and not 'Current Location'.  Deleted the iPhoto Library since I was running out of disk space but now I've got a warning the Master Files are offline or can't be found.
I managed to drag-and-drop the previews to the desktop and it made a total of 1.6 gb of data.  The main Aperture file in the Pictures folder has 13gb of data.  Seems like my masters are there still but all I have now is a 'ghost in the machine' of preview jpegs.
Please don't tell me I just deleted every single photo I've ever taken -- ever....

Would love to still have the original iPhoto libraries but didn't have the space for them (living in Thailand) with limited resources so they were deleted. Dutifully made two backups of the Aperture libraries though -- not doing me any good.
Trusted Aperture to not have 'loaded pistols' laying around for children to play with, couldn't couldn't have imagined even being able to make this terrible of an error.
My resson for restoring the OS is the fact things are not 'making sense'.  The original library is still the same size as it was before -- 13gb for 2000 photos.  Sounds about right, adn I think the masters are still there.
As well the question of why the lower panel of the Restoration Feature doesn't work when I CAN find the Aperture library by navigating to it in the finder.  As well theres the dialog that says my main hard drive is offline....
What do you think of erasing again, installing the OS without restoration, performing an update to 10.6.6, then dragging Aperture from a external disk to install -- and see if it can then see the Library in total ?
Seems to me something major is corrupted.  I can't get Filemaker Pro to work either after a recent install unless in Safe Mode or through a new user.  This may have been the start of all my troubles.....
What about trying Safe Mode to try to re-reference the Masters ?

I've always loved the ability to drag and drop previews even though the master is offline.
    Why can't i do this in ap3?
It seems to be hit or miss, mostly miss for me.
It's great to take home a library of offline masters and quickly mock-up layouts using ap1-2
    Any solutions?

You started the thread off basically telling everyone that drag out of the previews didn't work if the masters were offline in Aperture 3. Rereading your posts I don't really see a question in there anywhere.
This post is a support question. It is not my intention to make broad statements that this behavior is widespread for every ap3 user. The apple support forums are radically different and I'm a bit confused as to how this new system works.

Now if you're interested in trying to get this fixed I'd hold off on going into the library and maybe give us the backstory. I still don't know what equipment you're on or how this all started.
I have done all those steps including using disk utility to repair permissions.
This behavior is consistent across 3 computers with their own unique ap3 licenses:
    2011 17" MacBook Pro
    2010 Mac Mini
    2010 15" MacBook Pro
I've upgraded all computers to Aperture 3 5 months ago and I've seen this issue ever since.

  • Replication issues: Operations Master shows ERROR and attempting to connect to server shares gets "the target account name is incorrect"

I think this should be easily resolved, but I need some guidance.
I have a client with 2 Server 2003 R2 x64 DCs: BORIS & NATASHA. Last year I upgraded both of them from x86 to x64 one at a time, allowing replication to occur between the upgrades. BORIS is the FSMO roles holder as it is currently the production server,
while NATASHA is a backup DC. One thing that puzzles me though is that if I look at the NS record in DNS on the SOA tab, it says NATASHA is the Primary server.
While doing some routine maintenance I noticed an error in the File Replication Service events about a 'Tombstone' situation (Event ID 2042). I looked at article cc757610 in the Technet Library and opted for remedy #3 as I did not want to demote NATASHA
and I got confused looking at the help about using "repadmin /removelingeringobjects". I have no idea how to determine which DC has the good copy of the directory.
Now, in running "repadmin /showrepl" I get
    "DC=CPA,DC=local
        Default-First-Site-Name\BORIS via RPC
            DC object GUID: 0267a090-1890-40e2-9a15-ea928cabd425
            Last attempt @ 2012-12-27 08:28:55 failed, result -2146893022 (0x80090322):
The target principal name is incorrect.
1179 consecutive failure(s).        Last success @ 2012-12-21 23:30:15." <-- THIS IS WEIRD SINCE THIS IS THE DATE THAT I DISCOVERED THE TOMBSTONE EVENT AND MADE THE REGISTRY CHANGE
    (I THINK).
When I try to look at the FSMO roles on NATASHA, it shows ERROR for RID, PDC & Infrastructure and says "The current Operations Master is offline. The role cannot be transferred." The other issue I'm having is that client PCs are intermittently having
trouble reconnecting to necessary server shares.

    Hello Sandesh,
I spent a lot of time trying to understand using NETDOM to reset machine account passwords (don't understand it yet), but I see that you're saying that won't work anyway.
I'm not really sure how to tell which DC is the broken one, but I'm assuming it's BORIS since that's the one users are unable to connect to. Since it is the FSMO role holder and GC I want to make sure I understand the steps correctly:
1.Use dcpromo to forcefully demote BORIS
2.Do metadata cleanup on NATASHA (using ntdsutil?)
    3.Promote BORIS again to DC
Should I leave NATASHA as the FSMO role holder and GC? BORIS is the better (more resources/faster processor) machine and it's the file server. Or should the better machine be the FSMO role holder and GC as well as the file server. NATASHA is meant to be
a backup in case BORIS dies.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
The step you are performing is correct but you also need to seize the FSMO role on other DC if BORIS is FSMO role holder and configure authorative time server role. You can later move the famo role to  BORIS server the choice is your however if you are
moveing the role then you need configure authorative time server on BORIS server.

  • Allocation of RIDs to DC

We know that RID master is responsible for allocating RID pool to DCs.
RID master allocates RID pool in blocks of 500. Why is that so?
Why there is a constrain like only RID master allocated number of objects can be created?
Why can't we allocate infinite RID pool to DCs?

If all DCs had a "infinite" RID pool, how would you prevent two DCs from allocating the same RID? 500 RIDs are considered enough for a read/write DC while the RID master might be offline/unreachable

  • Allocating extra RID pool

By default, RID master allocates 500 RIDs to each DC. When a DC runs out of RID and requests extra RID, how the allocation is done?
e.g if DC1 request additional RID pool, will RID master allocated extra pool only to requested DC or for all?
If it allocates to only the requested DC then if there are 8 DCs in a domain each having 500 RID and if DC1 has requested all the remaining RID Pool then RID master will run out of RID and cannot allocate RID to other DCs in the near future.

    Hi,
A domain controller requests RID allocations in blocks of 500 RIDs at one time. You can override this default using the following registry REG_DWORD value on a domain controller:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NTDS\RID Values
    RID Block Size

  • DVCPRO HD 3 stream multiclip - computer too slow, offline edit? How?

Of all my woes trying to get this project edited, I finally figured out solutions for a few problems I was having (preventing me from starting the edit). Now, let's assume I have everything ready...
I have 3 angles, all DVCPRO HD. When I multiclip and place in timeline, keep getting dropped frames on playback.
I've tried reducing RT as low as quarter framerate and low playback quality but I still get mixed results.
Is there a way I can do an offline edit using multiclips then online the footage once my cuts are complete? How?
    Thanks!
    Oh duh - 17" Intel iMac (1st gen of Intels) 1.83Ghz, 2GB RAM, 1TB GRAID2, FCP 6.0.2

    FANTASTIC.
    Great, quick article.
    Let's give it a try...
    AAHHHH! It works! Ha!
Ok (and I know you read a thousand threads every day), as noted in another post of mine, I have the nightmare of transcoding other footage taken from different cameras (at different resolutions and different compression [both hdv, one is 720p ftg, other is 1080i])
The DVCPRO HD is native 59.94
When I recompress for offline, I get the warning dialog about framerate of preset to be used mismatching footage I've selected. The new project/sequence will be set to OfflineRT HD (Photo JPEG) 29.97 The media I'm about to recompress, again, is 59.94 The offline clips retain the 59.94 framerate.
Edit into sequence, prompt to change sequence settings to match clip settings. I edited the clip and 3 stream (!!) multiclip into the offline sequence with the sequence set to 29.97 or 59.94 I see no noticeable difference in the look of the footage. I don't have an external monitor to test with but I imagine it wouldn't make a difference.
So what's my point? Oh, uhh, yeah. So the other two "footages"...Before I begin the edit, what should they be transcoded to? My guess:
-Transcode HDV footage to DVCPRO HD 720p60 in Compressor
    -Results in 59.94
-Put the entire "online" media into master project
-Offline all footage for realtime project
    -Edit offline in 59.94 timeline
-Did I mention the purpose of transcoding to match DVCPRO HD is so I can multiclip?
    -Complete edit in offline project
    -Online it.
    A few notes...
-I don't have HDV to test w...oops, wait, I do. And, how convenient, it's 1080i! Nonetheless, I just did the Compress routine with some SD footage, looked like hairy sh...you know. But hey, that's what you'd expect. Mainly, you can see atrocious field separation especially on motion. Either way...
Just converted the 1080i ftg to DVCPRO HD and from master to transcode, they look very similar. There is a SLIGHT blur on the transcoded ftg but it will suffice (it'll have to)
-I offlined the transcoded 1080i-720p, looks like garbage but who cares? It's visible and plays back RT! Errr...when it's on its own in the timeline. Multiclip'd this ftg with 2 other DVCPRO HD offlined and, once in timeline, multiclip isn't playing back at all. Canvas shows the video, viewer doesn't. Each time playhead is stopped, viewer updates with current frames of each multiclip element. Yes, sync is set to open.
Also, canvas doesn't update when cut to alternate angle, continues showing the previous footage AND IT DOES register the cuts but canvas doesn't update. UGH.
-Restarting FCP. That didn't do it. The RT popup also doesn't give an option for multiclip playback. So...ahhh sugar. Found it.
-The sequence needed to be set to 29.97, not 59.94
-Now the question is, how will this affect the online? What will I online back to? Huuuuuhhhhh.....
Well, I did it anyway and set it all back how it was, the sequence framerate is 29.97 - Nothing looks off or weird after a render. HOWEVER...
-Does this mean I am doing it right?? Should the online be 59.94?
OK, I think I've babbled enough. Very close!!! Much closer than before, very helpful, thank you!
