Ridiculous ASA5505 OSX Problem

So this is wild.  I took an ASA5505 out of the box and upgrade the firmware to 8.4.(2)8.  I used the VPN wizard to build an IPSEC remote access VPN.  I test with a win7 full cisco client and it works (test from a virtual machine using a wireless connection on the host), i test with my iphone running IOS 5 .0.1 and it works.  I test with a laptop running snow leopard 10.7.2 and the same wireless connection from above and it cannot negotiate.  If i plug directly into the ASA5505 and try to VPN it connects instantly.
Below is the config, i'm completely baffled here.
Result of the command: "sh run"

Hi brookkaren
I agree this seems weird but it's hard to say what's wrong without more information.
I would suggest to start with enabling these debugs on the ASA:
debug crypto ipsec  10
debug crypto ikev1  10
debug crypto ike-common 10
as well as checking the client logs (see the "log" tab, you can increase the logging level in the "logging" menu).

  • OSX problems, can't reinstall!!

    I have a Macbook pro, it's about a year and a half old, and up until yesterday I've had no problems. Now I can't get my Macbook to start.
    Here's the problem and what I've done so far:
    My computer was in the middle of installing a software update when it froze. It couldn't recover, and I had to force a shut down (by holding the power button).
    When I rebooted, it loads the page with the apple logo and a spinning disk, but won't get any farther than that, even after sitting for half an hour to an hour.
    Once, during this sitting process, it's gone to a black screen with white writing. The error code that comes up is something like (and I could be wrong/missing something, it wasn't up long and I was writing it down as quick as I could)
    Launchd com.apple.nibindd
    bad system call
    too many failures will couse job removal
    It cycles through this a bunch of times with a countdown, and then when it has two tries left before 'job removal' it freezes.
    When I booted up in safe mode it loaded. I went to manually reinstall the updates that it had been working on, but it told me that it couldn't because it required Mac OSX 10.5 (at this point after previous updates I was running Mac OS X 10.4.9). I deleted the downloaded updates at this point, uninstalled Firefox and msn (both programs have caused minor problems in the past), backed up my really important data, cleared out my recyling bin, researched for new updates, and it found none available. I then rebooted normally. It still wouldnt' load.
    I then tried resetting my PRAM/NVRAM and it was successful-it rebooted on it's own after resetting, and for the first time made the Apple start up sound on reboot. I thought it was fixed, but again-just sits at the apple screen.
    I then loaded my OS X disk, and run the hardware test. Everything comes back fine.
    I restarted, and loaded from the disk again. I accessed the disk utility. I tried to verify permissions, but partway through it loses connection with the disk management tool and forces me to exit. It did this three times before I gave up verifying the permissions. I went straight to 'repair permissions' and after 'thinking' for a bit it told me there was nothing to repair. I then verified the disk, it told me everything was fine, I repaired anyway, and again everything was fine.
    I tried restarting again, nothing.
    I went back into disk utility and told it to reboot from HD (to ensure it wasn't attempting to boot through a network connection, etc), but no luck.
    Finally, at my wits ends, I wiped my harddrive. I then reinstalled OS X but something isn't working. It first verified my installation DVD, that went fine. It then installed, but it never asked me to insert the second disk (even though it told me to have the second disk ready at the beginning of the install). After reaching 100% of the installation it forced me to reboot. I followed the instructions, rebooted, and it STILL just sits at the apple loading screen. The only difference is that now I can't get it to boot up in safe mode.
    Help? I dont' know what else to do. Or what the problem could be. I need it fixed ASAP (I'm a uni student and this is my computer-I have two essays to write over reading week and can't really do it without my Mac!) so I'm reluctant to send it back to an Apple shop unless I've exhausted all options (I've heard horror stories from friends about ridiculous wait times), especially since this computer stopped being covered by a warrenty 3 months ago (the irony!). Any help is appreciated!!

    Hey thanks for the reply!
    1) To be honest, I'm not very tech-savy. I ordered my Mac online almost 1.5 years ago, and since I don't install any programs on it I've never really checked the specs-Beyond knowing that it has a 120G harddrive. Since I can't get back into safemode now I don't know how else to check my hardware specs. I believe it's just above 2GHz (like...2.15 or something), and I believe it has 2G RAM, but again...no way to double check that right now.
    6/7)I realize now I should have purchased an extended warrenty, at the time it was simply a lack of cash-I'm kicking myself now. And the only bad stories I've heard were from two separate friends-one sent their ipod in to a Toronto office and didn't get it back for 6 months, the other sent their iMac in and didn't get it back for 2-3 months...both those were a Toronto outlet though, so I'm thinking I might have more luck at my school (I've found out they have an authorized reseller at McMaster). I don't know anyone else that's ever sent anything into Apple besides them, so I was a little hesitant to send it off based on what they said, but if that's not a common issue then I will most definitely bring it in on Monday if it's not fixed.
    5) Good advice, I never realized updates could cause a problem until now...the installation just pops up on it's own when it's connected to the internet and I always allow the installation to continue.
    I'm going to try erasing and reinstalling based on what you said, I'll let you know if it was a success. If not, is there a possibility it could be a hardware issue? Or is it most likely software related?
    Thanks again!

  • Black screen on starting up in OSX, problems shutting down in XP.

    Hi there.
    I have a 2-month old iMac with Bootcamp and Win XP installed. It ran OK for a while, but Bootcamp has started behaving erratically. I did postst this in the Bootcamp part of discussions, but have come to the decision that it is not a Bootcamp issue.
    If I restart holding down the 'alt' key to bring up the Mac HDD or Bootcamp startup choice, when the screen comes up, it really chugs. The mouse moves once every second, and I cant actually choose the Bootcamp drive. I click on it, double click, etc, and nothing happens. I hit the power button to reset, and it eventually (after literally a few minutes) starts up in XP.
    Once XP has started, it runs OK, perfectly fluid. But when I have finished, I try to re-start into OSX. I choose 'Shut down, and nothing happens. I choose 'shut down' a second time, and it turns off almost instantly, but when I restart the mac, I get the startup chime but nothing on screen at all – totally blank.
    I tried restarting loads of times, but nothing worked. Eventually I unplugged it for a couple of minutes, started off my system disk, reselected the iMac HDD as the startup disk, and it restarted in OSX fine.
    This whole episode really scared me, so I really want to stop it from happening again.
    I have some ideas of what might have caused it, but need someone with a better brain than mine to troubleshoot my logic. Here are my thoughts.
    1) Bootcamp in itself just facilitates the installation of windows and auto-installation of hardware drivers, etc. Once Windows is installed and working, Bootcamp has really finished it's job.
    2) the 'holding Alt at startup' thing is an OSX thing (not Bootcamp specific). I reckon 1 & 2 together logically rule out Bootcamp the app as the problem.
    3) The actual OSs and apps in either partition actually work fine once the rigmarole of changing from one to the other is done. So the problem isn't in apps or high-up in the OS.
    4) Is it therefore a start-up/shutdown issue, present when either entering or exiting both partitions? As it's both partitions, could it be OS-independent as well?
    This leaves hardware. Could corrupt P-Ram settings cause this (if it's still called P-Ram – I originally started using macs back in the days of MacOS 8.6). I'm guessing that the unplugging might have cleared the PMU, as sticking a reset button on the M/B inside an iMac would be pretty bad design.
    Any thoughts?

    It was the PRAM.

  • Applet in Apple Mac OSX problem

    Hi all,
    have developing an applet long while using WinXP platform, everthing seem ok, but when i try over Apple Mac OSX, i has a loading problem saying that init failed to load ArrayList as error message said:
    ArrayIndexOutOfBound, 0...
    but when i debug print out the ArrayList content and its length, i'm sure that this ArrayList is NOT NULL and its length is NOT ZERO either. what is happening here? oh, ya, this only happen in Safari, in FireFox for Mac no problem, even Camino also pass the test, why? anyone have idea about this? because i'm new to Apple Mac.
    also, there is another question whereby, when i use FireFox for Mac to load the applet, the applet load seem no problem but it just can't display properly. what i mean is that in Windows platform (IE6), this applet show entire applet successfully, but when i try it in Mac, it show only a part of applet without any error, but when i try to refresh the page, applet is now successfully show, why?
    lastly, when a button of an applet being click and this will bring a new window with some parameters value, its work on IE in Windows platform, why it won't work for FireFox or Safari for Mac? i see prompt out saying is security problem, is there any workout of this? thanks. to summary out of junk above:
    _______________________________FireFox_____Safari_____IE
    _______________________________Win | Mac_____Mac____Win
    1. load applet for 1st time___________OK_|_NO_____FAIL____OK
    2. refresh applet after 1st load failed___OK_|_OK_____FAIL____OK
    3. when applet button click (security)___OK_|_NO_____-_______OK
    p/s: all above test was using same applet with same parameter and value.
    below is the sample i capture from Apple Mac just now:

    but when i debug print out the ArrayList content and
    its length, i'm sure that this ArrayList is NOT NULL
    and its length is NOT ZERO either. You can still get an out of bounds exception with those conditions. The list could exist, its length could be N, but you're trying to dereference position N + 5, for example.
    try it in Mac, it show only a part of applet without
    any error, but when i try to refresh the page, applet

    above:Often you can sign applets so they can do things that unsigned applets aren't allowed to do.
    Maybe you're making some kind of security mistake that Firefox and Safari are (properly) catching but IE isn't. In any event, post the error message.

  • Ridiculous amount of problems, and something I've never seen before.

    I had gotten a 4th gen 20gb iPod for a Christmas gift in 2004. It had a few problems here and there, but worked well for the most part for the better part of a year.
    Right around the time the one-year warranty was going to expire, it started really acting up. I sent it in, and got a replacement. Well, its been right around four months since I got the 'new' one, and I've had so much trouble with it, I've nearly thrown it out.
    I've been reading up on these forums for a couple days, and trying everything I could with no success.
    The main reason I'm starting this topic is in hopes for an answer on my iPod's capacity.
    So we're all aware that the 20gb's are really only 18.5 gb's. That's no secret. What really blew my mind was, just a week or so ago, I was having a ton of trouble with my iPod, and when I finally got it to respond, and it connected with iTunes, the maximum capacity was showing 16.4 gb. It was completely empty of anything I would have put on it, so I was extremely confused, and fairly upset.
    Well, not even ten minutes ago I went through the same sanity-reducing behavior, and when things finally connected, iTunes was showing that the iPod's maximum capacity is now at 15.98 gb!!!
    I don't know what to do, I've tried literally everything I've seen suggested in these forums that I can do aside from sending it in for repair.
    If the "true video" iPod doesn't come out in the next couple months I think I might switch to an iRiver. I don't really want to do that, because I have faith in Apple, but the problems I've had are ridiculous.
    Sorry for ranting, and thanks for reading.

    Sorry to butt in... Two thoughts for you.
    1) Are you resetting the iPod while it is still attached to the comp? If so try resetting it when it is not attached and leave it to "settle" for a minute (or so) before you attempt to reconnect. Make sure that the iPod is fully charged (or very nearly fully charged) before connecting since sometimes the current drain to start the iPod's internal HDD and keep it spinning to synch with iTunes is more than the USB port can support.
    2) I've seen the iPod "lie" about how much space is available - it's happened to me! It's not ideal, but my advice is to accept the iPod lies about how much space is available and ignore it unless you experience other symptoms which suggest that it really is inexplicably short of space (e.g. iTunes indicates that it is full, Windows thinks that it is full and you know that it should not be). You can also try running chkdsk on the drive letter windows has allocated to the iPod - it should detect any problems in the filesystem on the iPod which could lead to it getting confused about how much space is available. These "lies" about availble space can come and go (in my experience) - with no apparent reason or at least any that I've so far identified.
    Hope that helps.

  • Is it itunes or osX problem?

    hi I tried to post this on the tiger forum site,but I couldn't get the answer that I want to hear,so here I'm hoping u could help me in this : when I try to copy from itunes let's say 500 or 1000 songs to a folder on an external drive (or even on the desktop),itunes would not copy the song files;only if I reduce the number of selected songs,it would.Now I ask this in this forum because the widows itunes would do this with no trouble!so? note that I do not get any error message but simply the spinning cursor,and then everything goes normal with nothing copied at all.i tried using drag an drop,copy paste,but nothing helps.So is that a limitation on itunes by osx? note also that I tried this on different macs(Imac G5 isight-PB 12 1.5Ghz,both with 512 MB RAM.I just want to know why can I do this windows' itunes and not on mac,so is this limited by osX.You know everytime I have to cut the selection to 5,or six times!!

    no no wait a second I am trying this not on my imac G3 but on Imac G5(isight)with 512 MB Ram and I already tried it on PB 12 1.5 GHz,and I'm sure the same on all macs,so the thing that really tease me is that I always have to divide my selection into 4 or 5 times and I repeat that I have tried this on windows machines with much lower specs and it did not complain at all..so I am not sure if it is an itunes problem or osx limit on itunes!

  • WTK SDK 3.0 for OSX problem with capturing audio, emulator

    Hello all,
    i'm installed the WTK SDK 3.0 for osx and everything works well. Some test applications also work.
    Now I'm trying to realize my project and get strange error.
    I want to capture some audio form the microphone. But when i do so the Emulator strikes with this error:
    javax.microedition.media.MediaException: Player cannot be created for capture://audio
    so i tried this: System.getProperty("supports.recording") and it returns false. But when i read over the specification of the WTK it says that it should support the Audio capturing. Is this error based on the implementation of the WTK on OSX or have some Windows users also the same problem?
    here is my implementation for the Audio recording:

  • Cannot open any Java files on my Mac OSX: Problem Solved

    Hello all,
    I have just begun an Introduction to Java class and I'm already having problems...namely, I cannot open .java files on my Mac.
    Whenever I try to open them, I get an error message that says: "You cannot use this version of the application Xcode with this version of Mac OS X."
    I'm running version 10.5.4 on a PowerPC Mac. It's a few years old, but I don't understand how it could already be so outdated as to not allow me to even use the application.
    I am 100% new to programming and don't really know at all what I'm doing. Apple says their JDK comes with every Mac and no one else seems to be having this problem. I don't really even know where to go to for updates, if that is what I need to do, or if I should just download a different JDK.
    This is an intensive (6-week) class and I don't want to fall behind, but it's halfway through the first week and I cannot even open files.
    Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
    EDIT: I figured out the problem by getting out my installation disks and I found the latest xCode tools app in the "optional packages" folder.
    Installed it and now I'm up and running.

    You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

    I'm having trouble too. I'm using an Intel based MacBook,

    My daughter has an Intel iMac early 2006. Upgraded to Leopard early 2008. While doing a routine update, power was cut. On rebooting, computer never got past screen with spinning ball. Using grey install disks, my daughter used disk utility to check disk. No problem, but computer refused to reboot. Finally, she reinstalled OSX Tiger using grey install disks but discovered that all of her data, folders, and programs had gone (e.g. no Final Cut, etc). She has some folders backed up on an external drive but not all.
    Question: Are the data/programs that she had before now irretrievable? Will she need to reinstall all the additional software (FC, Office for MAC, etc) or is it still there and she can't see it? Will Disk Warrior be able to retrieve the lost data?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Disk Warrior typically only repairs the directory.
    To recover lost data you need Prosoft Data Rescue, or Subrosasoft Filesalvage and a Firewire external hard drive at least as large as your internal drive.
    Check for content inside any Previous System folder. It may be stuck in there. Applications you can't find should be installable from their original system discs. If those discs are lost, contact the vendor who created those applications for replacement discs. Those discs may cost money, but typically less than full retail.

  • Emac osx problem, blank home page, missing icons.

    Hello.   I am having trouble with my 2005 or 2006 (cant quite remeber) emac osx.  I get through the login portion and it then brings me to the home screen except their are no icons visable.  I also tried turning it on by holding done the option button, the apple button, and the P and R button.  This made it flash from a blue screen to the home screen with icons and then back to the blue screen repeatedly.  I am essentially trying to get off the harddrive about nine days worth of music.  If I can do this without logging into the computer through extracting the hard drive or some other method that tip would be appreciated as well.Thanks for all hope you can help!

    Some eMacs had serious, near-fatal logic board issues tha could produce the grief you describe. Before we go much farther, let's see if you have an eMac in the affected ranges.
    First, look for the serial number. This article shows where to find it:
    How to locate the serial number and identify your model
    The bad logic boards affect many 1.25Ghz eMacs and the seldom-seen "edu-only" 1.0 ghz version with the later USB 2.0 logic board of the 1.25g. The computers affected were supposed to fall in these ranges:
    G8412xxxxxx- G8520xxxxxx
    YM412xxxxxx - YM520xxxxxx
    VM440xxxxxx - VM516xxxxxx
    If your serial number starts with "R" or "RM," then yours is a factory refurb and the above list won't help.
    For security reasons, Apple doesn't want people posting there serial numbers here. Instead, simply tell us if your eMac falls in on of the affected number ranges. Then we can go from there.

    I have created a flash with OSX bootable, created with mavrik app.
    When i hold downt he option key to select boot from usb, it only shows the wifi option, no HDD, no usb, just wifi.
    I try and hold down the keys from some of the boot commands and nothing seems to work other than the option key!
    This is gettin very anoying as on windows i would just goto BIOS and chance start up drive, not so easy on a mac.
    Thanks for you help

    Wait... maybe you can use internet revcovery. That's the wifi icon....
    OS X Internet Recovery
    Mac models introduced after public availability of OS X Lion include the ability to start up directly from an Internet-based version of the OS X Recovery system. OS X automatically uses this feature when the Recovery System on the hard disk isn't available (such as when your hard disk encounters an issue, or when your hard disk has been replaced or erased). OS X Internet Recovery lets you start your Mac directly from Apple's servers. Starting up from this system performs a quick test of your memory and hard drive to check for hardware issues.
    OS X Internet Recovery presents a limited interface at first, with only the ability to select your preferred Wi-Fi network and, if needed, entering a passphrase. Next, OS X Internet Recovery downloads and starts from a Recovery System image. From there, you are offered the same utilities and options as a local Recovery System.
    Some computers that did not ship with OS X Lion or later installed may be able to add the ability to use Internet Recovery by applying a software update.

  • [JS OSX problem executing CS3 script in CS4 ]

    I created a program in CS3 for hyperlink. Following code will work fine in CS3. But when i am trying to run this program in CS4 its not giving me any error but i am not getting  expected output.
    var myTextFrame_np = mydoc.pages.item(i).textFrames.add();
    myTextFrame_np.geometricBounds = ["38p0", "26p0", "40p0", "30p0"];
    var source_np = mydoc.hyperlinkPageItemSources.add(myTextFrame_np,{name:'P1:P2'});
    var dest_np = mydoc.hyperlinkExternalPageDestinations.add();
    dest_np.documentPath = myfile;
    dest_np.destinationPageIndex = 2;
    dest_np.viewSetting = HyperlinkDestinationPageSetting.fitWindow;
    mydoc.hyperlinks.add(source_np, dest_np, {visible:false, name:'P1:P2'});
    Can anyone tell me what i need to change in this program to work in CS4.
    Thank you,
    --Amit

    I created a test case for you. Copy the code into ESTK and run for CS4. I am sending Amit.indd file as well in your mail box please check the attachment. You can check now what is the problem.
    var file_path = "/Users/amitvyawahare/Desktop/Amit.indd";
    var OpenDocument = app.open(File(file_path));
    myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var myfile = File(file_path);
    var nextPage = ["38p5", "26p0", "40p0", "30p0"];  // Next Page text frame for hyperlink (y1, x1, y2, x2)
    var prevPage = ["38p5", "21p0", "40p0", "25p0"];  // Previous Page text frame for hyperlink (y1, x1, y2, x2)
    var myNextFrame = myDoc.pages.item(0).textFrames.add();
    myNextFrame.geometricBounds = [nextPage[0], nextPage[1], nextPage[2], nextPage[3]];
    var myNextSource = myDoc.hyperlinkPageItemSources.add(myNextFrame,{name:'P1:P2'});
    var myNextDest = myDoc.hyperlinkExternalPageDestinations.add();
    myNextDest.documentPath = myfile;
    myNextDest.destinationPageIndex = 2;
    myNextDest.viewSetting = HyperlinkDestinationPageSetting.fitWindow;
    myDoc.hyperlinks.add(myNextSource, myNextDest, {visible:false, name:'P1:P2'});
    When you finish execution try to open the showDestination it wount work.
    But  when you open P1:P2 hyperlink or try to open hyperlink option which is under hyperlinks.
    Then try to open showDestination that time it will work.

  • Reinstalling OSX Problems After Erasing HD

    Hi all,
    I'm in a tricky situation- I am preparing to sell my 2010 iMac (A1311) and so I have securely erased my hard drive using a 10.6 install disk. I was running Mavericks before erasing, but I didn't want my Apple ID associated with the computer when I sold it so I wanted to install 10.6. The computer worked perfectly before erasing, and the erasing process was smooth and with no problems.
    Then I tried to restart the computer so I could install 10.6 on my newly formatted HD. However, after I hold the "option" key down when powering up and select the 10.6 Install Disk as my one and only boot-up option, I get stuck on the grey screen with the dark grey apple logo. I've tried several keyboard as well as an external disk drive and I'm getting the same results.
    What could the problem be and how should I fix it? I can't access Disk Utilities because I can't get past the grey screen.
    Again, I'm a little stumped because the iMac has no hardware problems and the disk worked perfectly on another machine earlier in the day.
    Thanks!

    What you tried should have worked and the disk is loading if you can see it with the option key held down. Try restarting while holding down the C key.
