    Hi K Nani,
    From your error message
ora_01122:database file 8 failed cerification check
    ora_01110:datafile 8:d:\oracle\sid\sapdata1\sr3_5\sr3.data5'
ora_01251:unknown file header version read for file number 8
Looks like Data file is corrupted.
You may refer SAP note 696141 - Composite SAP Note: ORA-01122
    10. ORA-01251: Unknown File Header Version read for file number <file_id>
Reason: The file header cannot be correctly read.
Solution: If you use Oracle 9.2 on WINDOWS and if you already installed the database with Oracle 7.2 or lower, see Note 636466.
               Otherwise: Restore/recovery
Only solution here is restore the database from backup.
Alternate solution If it is a non-production system.
If the file is corrupted, then take the datafile offline and open the database.
    Hope this helps

  • RMAN restore from active database, ASM

I'm attempting to refresh a stage database from a prod database using RMAN restore from active database. Both are on ASM. After working through various hurdles, I've got one issue I'm a bit stuck on. I've got a handful of data files that do NOT have OMF names (ie MSTRDATA/mstrmdpd/datafile/gsa_indx instead of MSTRDATA/mstrmdpd/datafile/gsa_indx.351.714779777) and these are failing when I do the restore. The syntax I'm using in RMAN is as follows:
    duplicate target database to dwstage
    from active database
    spfile parameter_value_convert 'dwprod','dwstage'
    SET DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '+DWPROD','+DWSTAGE'
    SET LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '+DWPROD','+DWSTAGE';
The error message I'm getting is this:
RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 04/21/2011 13:26:24
ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle server
continuing other job steps, job failed will not be re-run
Normally from what I've seen/read this error can be traced back to needing to pre-create the directories for the controlfiles etc, but since 90% of the datafiles copied correctly...
Any suggestions as to a way around this, or am I going to be forced to restore from a backupset?

This fails saying that "ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections" which is quite normal given that the listener is havig a handle in BLOCKED state for this AUXDB as it is in NOMOUNT state.
Could you please help me on how to proceed?
One option can be to create the controlfile manually and mount the instance before doing the duplicate. I hope Rman can continue from there.
Another option is to go for backup based duplicate.
Is there any other way to go?
Provide static registration on AUXILIARY side for your auxiliary instance and try again. For example change listener.ora file as
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (GLOBAL_DBNAME = AUXDB)
          (ORACLE_HOME = <your oracle home>)
          (SID_NAME = AUXDB)
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <auxiliary host/ip>)(PORT = 1521))
)And restart listener on auxiliary host then try again

  • How to stop BDB from Mapping Database Files?

We have a problem where the physical memory on Windows (NT Kernel 6 and up, i.e. Windows 7, 2008R2, etc.) gets maxed out after some time when running our application.  On an 8GB machine, if you look at our process loading BDB, its only around 1GB. But, when looking at the memory using RAMMAP, you can see that the BDB database files (not the shared region files) are being mapped into memory and that is where most of the memory consumption is taking place.  I wouldn't care normally, as memory mapping can have performance and usability benefits. But the results are the system comes to a screeching halt.   This happens when we are inserting results in high order, e.g. 10s of millions of records in a short time frame.
I would attach a picture to this post, but for some reason the insert image is greyed out.
    Environment open flags: DB_CREATE | DB_INIT_LOCK | DB_INIT_LOG | DB_INIT_TXN | DB_INIT_MPOOL | DB_THREAD | DB_LOCKDOWN | DB_RECOVER
    Database open flags: DB_CREATE | DB_AUTO_COMMIT

    An update for the community
    Cause
We opened a support request (SR) to work with Oracle on the matter. The conclusion we came to was that the main reason for the memory consumption was the Windows System Cache.  (For reference, see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976618) When opening files in buffered mode, the equivalent of calling CreateFile without specifying FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING, all I/O to a file goes through the Windows System Cache.  The larger the database file, the more memory is used to back it.  This is not the same as memory mapped files, of which Berkeley will use for the region files (i.e. the environment.) Those also use memory, but because they are bounded in size, will not cause an issue (e.g. need a bigger environment, just add more memory.)  The obvious reason to use the cache is for performance optimizations, particularly in read-heavy workloads.
The drawback, however, is that when there is a significant amount of I/O in a short amount of time, that cache can get really full and can result in the physical memory being close to 100% used.  This has negative affects on the entire system.
Time is important, because Windows needs time to transition active pages to standby pages which decreases the amount of physical memory.   What we found is that when our DB was installed on FLASH disk, we could generate a lot more I/O and our tests could run in a fraction of the time, but the memory would get close to 100%. If we ran those same tests on slower disk, while the result was the same, i.e. inserted 10 million records into the data, the time takes a lot long and the memory utilization does not approach even close to 100%. Note that we also see the memory consumption happen when we utilize the hotbackup in the BDB library. The reason for this is obvious:  In a short amount of time we are reading the entire BDB database file which makes Windows utilize the system cache for it. Total amount of memory might be a factor as well. On a system with 16GB of memory, even with FLASH disk, we had a hard time reproducing the issue where the memory climbs.
There is no Windows API that allows an application to control how much system cache is reserved or usable or maximum for an individual file.  Therefore, BDB does not have fine grained control of this behavior on an individual file basis.  BDB can only turn on or off buffering in total for a given file.
    Workaround
In Berkeley, you can turn off buffered I/O in Windows by specifying the DB_DIRECT_DB flag to the environment.  This is the equivalent of calling CreateFile with specifying FILE_FLAG_NO_BUFFERING.  All I/O goes straight to the disk instead of memory and all I/O must be aligned to a multiple of the underlying disk sector size. (NTFS sector size is generally 512 or 4096 bytes and normal BDB page sizes are generally multiples of that so for most this shouldn't be a concern, but know that Berkeley will test that page size to ensure it is compatible and if not it will silently disable DB_DIRECT_DB.)  What we found in our testing is that using the DB_DIRECT_DB flag had too much of a negative affect on performance with anything but FLASH disk and therefore can not use it. We may consider it acceptable for FLASH environments where we generate significant I/O in short time periods.   We could not reproduce the memory affect when the database was hosted on a SAN disk running 15K SAS which is more typical and therefore are closing the SR.
However, Windows does have an API that controls the total system wide amount of system cache space to use and we may experiment with this setting. Please see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976618 We are also going to experiment with using multiple database partitions so that Berkeley spreads the load to those other files possibly giving the system cache time to move active pages to standby.

  • HUGE database file

I have what I think is a large DB file - 68gig. I feel like I'm probably not utilizing things the best way. I'd like to either put the database file on an external drive or at least split the file up - so I can have some of the databases reside on an external drive that I don't use as much.
Any suggestions? Again, I have EVERYTHING in one DB file right now - and I'm curious if there is a better practice in file management - that can help me use space more wisely.
    Thanks,
    Vic

And your statement is one of the reasons why I consider going back to managed instead of referenced.
Together with a lot of photographers, I was influenced by the hype from a lot of users in version 1.x of Aperture about not being able to have referenced files instead of managed. There were a lot of factors in favor for a referenced library, and lack of disk space one of the most important.
As it turns out, disks are getting larger and more inexpensive all the time so I really see no problem in using a managed library on a stationary mac. Having a small library on a laptop and then export the project into the main library is IMHO also a good solution.
Using a managed library also protects the masters from being messed up by accident.
However, the possibility to span the managed library over different disks would be appreciated.

  • Database file size

I am using Berkeley DB 5.1.19 with replication manager.
I am seeing big differences between the size of the db files between the master and the client, is that expected and if so what is the reason. This has impact on the size of the backup too.

    Thx in advance.

The __db.00* files are not replicated database files. They are internal Berkeley DB files that back our shared memory regions and they are specific to each separate site's database. It is expected that they can be different sizes reflecting the different usage patterns and potentially different configuration options on the master and the client database. To read more about these files, please refer to the Programmer's Reference section titled "Shared memory regions".
I am assuming that your replicated databases are the QM* and Qm* files. These look like they are the same size on the master and client, as we would expect.

  • How to remove Database Files and Backup from ASM

    Hi All,
    Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
    OEL 5.7
We have a host for restore purposes.
We execute monthly or quarterly restore operations to verify that I am able to restore a subset of the data in the given amount of time or to other purposes.
I have a automated script to Clone the Database, but to Clone Database we need remove the old database from ASM before start this operation. I want remove only Database files and keep the configuration (such as oratab/network/ocr and so on).
Question: There is a easy way to remove these files without connect on ASM or by using DBCA?
    Appreciate any helps.

Yes... there is a easy way. Use command DROP DATABASE.
Use the DROP DATABASE command to delete the target database and, if RMAN is connected to a recovery catalog, unregister it. RMAN removes all datafiles, online redo logs, and control files belonging to the target database. By default, RMAN prompts for confirmation.
Put this command on your script before clone your database:
    RMAN> CONNECT TARGET SYS@test1
    RMAN> STARTUP FORCE MOUNT
    RMAN> SQL 'ALTER SYSTEM ENABLE RESTRICTED SESSION';
RMAN> DROP DATABASE INCLUDING BACKUPS NOPROMPT;Regards,

  • Move database files from one ASM diskgroup to another

We are working on 11.2.0.3 RAC environment. We have an activity in which we have to move ASM database files from one diskgroup to another. We have the sufficient downtime for the activity. On checking MOS it says copying datafiles from "rman copy" command is the preferred method. But with 11g R2 we can use cp command in ASMCMD.
So which is the preferred method to copy asm database files and why:
RMAN Copy command or ASMCMD cp command

    Hi,
I normally prefer to go with RMAN than the ASMCMD cp command. Suppose the datafiles are OMF and you use RMAN to copy:
    1. offline the datafile
    2. RMAN>copy datafile <offline-datafile-on-old-DG> to +NEW-DG;
    3. At database level, rename the old datafile to the new name reported from the above command
    4. Switch the new datafile to copy
    5. Recover the new datafileHere, RMAN assigns automatically a unique name for the new datafile (OMF) and you only have to specify the new diskgroup name while using the COPY command which makes things easier. But say if you are using ASMCMD, then you cannot just specify the new diskgroup name for the CP command, which means that a unique name cannot be obtained automatically.
The below command does not work out.
asmcmd>cp OLD_DG/datafile/abc.123 NEW_DGYou need to specify the destination name as well something like below:
asmcmd>cp OLD_DG/datafile/abc.123 NEW_DG/abc.dbfHere you are getting a normal file and not OMF, though ASM internally creates a link for the file "+NEW_DG/abc.dbf" pointing to an OMF. ASMCMD makes you a bit more confusive.

  • Using RMAN to delete unwanted archivelog files..??

    Hi All,
How can i remove the unwanted archivelog files from the disk, to manage the disk space usage, using RMAN?
My 10g database is in ARCHIVELOG mode and the OS is RHEL ES Release 3
when i tried with 'delete expired archivelog all;', i got the result as follows:
    RMAN> delete expired archivelog all;
    released channel: ORA_DISK_1
    allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
    channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=363 devtype=DISK
specification does not match any archive log in the recovery catalog
    Please update...
    Many Thanks in advance.....!!!

with the delete all input, can i assume that the archivelog files has been got deleted...Don't you trust Oracle ? :-)

  • Database files to /u02 & flashbackup to /u03,

    OS: AIX 5.2
    DB: 10.2.0.1.0
    Hello All,
I succesfully installed Oracle Database on AIX.
We wanted to use Oarcle Database filesystem as follows:
    /u01 for Oracle
    /u02 for datafiles
    /u03 for backup (flashbackup)
But we missed Advance configuration method and install Compltete Oracle database on dir /u01.
Now I would like to configure system to move all database files to /u02 & flashbackup to /u03.
Can I use RMAN to configure this, if yes how.
any feed back will be appreciated.

  • Database files limit

    I work on Oracle database Version 10 R 10.2.0.4.0
My database has db_files = 200 specified as a part of Initialization parameter.
I have 200 database files already on my database, Today I tried to create 4 datatabase files for some reason my database allowed my creating those files even if it exceeded number of database files limit.
Will I be able to create database objects in these database files?
    Any reply is truely appreciated.
    Thanks in advance

    From the fine Reference Manual:
DB_FILES specifies the maximum number of database files that can be opened for this database. (emphasis mine)
What does DBA_DATA_FILES say about the STATUS and ONLINE_STATUS of the files in question?
What does V$DATAFILE have to say?
Will you be able to create database objects in these database files?   What does it cost to try it and see for yourself?  With the proviso that you cannot directly specify what file an object goes in.  You can only specify a tablespace.  If that tablespace has only one data file the test is simple.  If the tablespace contains more than one data file, it gets more complex because oracle will use data files within a TS as it sees fit.

  • Database files can be ported over cross different OS ?

    Can someone highlight me:
"under oracle version 10 release 2, database files can be ported over cross different OS, e.g. between HP-UX and Sun Solaris", --- is it true ???
    thanks in advance.

check out the CONVERT option available with RMAN of Oracle 10g.
for details look at the 10g Recovery Manager Reference.
Only restriction is both the source and the target should have a compatible parameter in the init.ora file set to 10.0 and higher.
