RMAN-20207/RMAN-06026 Perdictimate
So last Friday, 16 March 2012, one of the application administrators came to me and told me that a user had deleted ~4 million rows out of a table and we need to recover the database to 15 March 2012 at 1500. So I did, after the restore I opened the database with restlogs. Now they are telling me they need it restored to 15 March 2012 at 1015 but when I do the point in time recovery to that time I get RMAN error "RMAN-20207: UNTIL TIME or RECOVERY WINDOW is before RESETLOGS time", so I looked at my incarnations and see that I have three (20-JUL-10, 28-OCT-11, and 16-MAR-12 (CURRENT)). And when I set the incarnation back to 2 (28-OCT-11) RMAN errors out "RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore", obviously because that point in time is earlier than the point in time I'm recovering to.
My question is, did I loose the data from my point in time recovery from 15-MAR-2012 to 28-OCT-2011 because I did the "resetlogs" option when opening the database? If I didn't how can I recover the data from 15-MAR-2012 at 1015? If I did loose my data what can I do to prevent this in the future?
Note: I'm still learning Oracle/RMAN after inheriting this position when the last guy left.
I've actually got the control file backup twice in my backup script......

But why would the control file backups prior to my PIT restore go missing? This is bothering, I checked my most recent backup logs and didn't see anything that deletes the control files and all my backups from before my PIT restore and before are there without the control files. Did RMAN think they were bad, or not needed and then deleted them?

Getting above errpr while executing duplicate target database for standby ;
i am using 10.2.0.4
i searched in many blogs but i havn't get any clue
i am having valid controlfile backup .
please anyone share ur experience .Hello,
You say you have a valid controlfile backup, but is it a standby controlfile backup of the primary controlfile ?
Please refer this on how to create physical standby on 10g:

PranamI had created a snapshot of the database(datafiles and archivelogs) and cataloged them.
CATALOG START WITH "+TBL_DG_DATA/ORCL/DATAFILE/" NOPROMPT;
catalog start with "+DG_ARCH/ORCL/ARCHIVELOG/" NOPROMPT;
The time i gave was after the snapshot was created.
When it failed the first time I created another controlfile using
sql "alter database backup controlfile to ''/tmp/auxpran/controlbc.ctl''";
And ran the recover command after the time after i generated this controlfile. Changed nothing else. TSPITR completed successfully. But it had failed first time. Cannot figure how it ran the second time but failed the first time.

RMAN duplicate target using set until telling me it can not find data files
I have RMAN scripts that I use freqently to clone a database from DB (production) to another (non-prod). These work just fine. I use the set until so that I can tell it at what point I want the new DB to be created from the backups of the source.
I had a request to go back a few weeks and the backup files (I do compressed backups to disk) were on tape. I had my backup person restore my backup directory for the source DB as it looked on a certain day (May 28). I have an 8 day retention policy and so the backup files that were restored showed files all the way back to 5/20 ( includes the point I want to use in my set until clause).
However, whenever I try to execute the rman clone, it tells me for each datafile:
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 1 found to restore
Like I said, I am able to do this for a current backup that is on disk. I moved the backup files to the source db server and it works fine. However, from these files restored from tape it errors.
Here is the RMAN script:
spool log to c:\temp\clone_CSPROD_CSPRSUM1.log;
#connect to catalog <catalog info>
# target is the source and auxiliary is destination
#connect target <put in source info here>
#connect auxiliary /

I got into RMAN and did a List backup command. In looking at the output, I see that it does have the 5/20 backup showing. Here is part of the output:

I then changed my rman script to use the *237046947* SCN number that says it is from 5/20. I them kicked off my rman script and got the following result.

What I am not sure is if the SCN I used in my set until sequence command was from 5/20, when I look at the backup pieces that it is reading to restore from, they appear to be from backup files taken from June.
(e.g channel d1: reading from backup piece F:\BACKUPS\CSPROD\D3\CSPROD_DATA_6148 -- this is a 6/16 backup file).
Also, as you can see it was not able to do a media recovery.
Thanks in advance for your help. -
RMAN unable to read backupset file during Cloning
Hi,
I'm performing cloning operation on windows to windows. On target I have taken backup through rman using recovery catalog. I've taken fresh backup of database along with archivelogs and delete the obsoleted one using rman recovery catalog repository.
When I connect to Target,Recovery catalog and auxiliary instance after executing some commands RMAN gives error that it is unable to read backupset file. What could be the reason for this. I'm posting the Error Portion of RMAN listing please see it and tell me what could be the reasons as I have taken fresh backups and it seems that it is unable to read that particular backup.

AbbasiIf your RMAN backup exist on target server path.
Target Server: C:\Oracle\RMAN_BACKUP\
Put it on the same location in the auxiliary server.
Auxiliary Server: C:\Oracle\RMAN_BACKUP\
During cloning also connect with your recovery catalog as you are using recover catalog for the target server.

Any idea?

Edited by: martin.morono on Nov 8, 2012 11:49 AMThanks Levi,
I slightly modified your script to recatalog the backup pieces since they are note stored at the same location in PR and QA.
No luck. The error message is different but the result is the same... it keeps failing.

Hello,
I have 2 disctinct servers.
oracle 10gr2 in each one with the same linux red hat 4 version.
the second server is just to TEST if the backup create with the first one, works fine.
So the install in each server is exactlly the same...
same files, same path etc.
Scenario:
1 from srv one I execute a full backup with RMAN
2 I copy the file in server 2
3 I move a datafile in order to create an error
4 I test : restore database in server 2...
I get the followin error:
RMAN-03002: failure of restore command at 02/24/2008 21:15:37
RMAN-06026: some targets not found - aborting restore
RMAN-06023: no backup or copy of datafile 8 found to restore
and this command return no result:
RMAN> list backupset;
RMAN>
the file created with server 1 have been copied in the declared path into server 2...
I have execute a crosscheck backup too
RMAN> crosscheck backup;
using channel ORA_DISK_1
RMAN>
Must I copy the controle file too? in this case will I have an inconsistent error?
Thanks to help
CheersYou must have
controlfile autobackup on
(If you don't change the format it will be in $ORACLE_HOME/dbs, and the format will be c-<database id>-<yyyymmdd>_<piece>.ctl).
You must copy that file, as it has information about your most recent backup, the backup you just made.

We try to create standby database from a production DB on another server (10.2.0.4). The RMAN backup is in the nfs file system which is also mounted to the target server (the DR box). So, the access path for the rman backup is the same look from primary DB server and DR DB server. I started the RMAN run:
RMAN> RUN
2> {
3> ALLOCATE AUXILIARY CHANNEL aux1 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
4> ALLOCATE AUXILIARY CHANNEL aux2 DEVICE TYPE DISK;
5> DUPLICATE TARGET DATABASE for standby
6> nofilenamecheck
7> dorecover;
8> }
9>
10> exit
using target database control file instead of recovery catalog

Does anybody know that wrong with that script?
ThanksReally the error is very strange realizing that if functions well for about 6 days or something like that.
this is a notable line in the error.
some targets not found - aborting restore
I recommend you to check very well your targets path
to be restore. I think that is the cause of the failure.

9.2.0.6 RMAN Disaster recovery issue
Our production database crashed and we are doing DR on a new host.
We dont have any catalog database and we dont use controlfile autobackup.
We just do a full backup including controlfile and also archive logs
CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK;
run {
allocate channel d1 type disk;
backup database format '/data/TESTDB/rman/testdb_bk_%s_%p_%t' include current controlfile;
backup archivelog all format '/data/TESTDB/rman/testdb_al_%s_%p_%t' delete input;
release channel d1;
We copied these backup pieces to the new host and tried the following way to restore the database.
startup nomount
rman
connect target /
