RMAN Backup from 11g to 10g

Hi to all,
I am having a catalog DB in 11g and database in 10g. Can I take backup of 10g from 11g catalog database.
When I try to connect to the rman, I am getting the below error.
rman catalog=rman/rman@catalogdb target=sys@db10g_58
Catalog DB is in 11g
TargetDB in 10g
OS: Windows 2003 Server on both the servers.
Kindly post the suggestions.

  • Data pump import from 11g to 10g

    I have 2 database: first is 11.2.0.2.0 and second is 10.2.0.1.0
    In 10g i created database link on 11g
    CREATE DATABASE LINK "TEST.LINK"
    CONNECT TO "monservice" IDENTIFIED BY "monservice"
    USING '(DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS_LIST = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host)(PORT = port))) (CONNECT_DATA = (SID = sid)))';
    And execute this query for test dbLink which work fine:
    select * from v$[email protected];
    After it i try to call open function:
    declare
    h number;
    begin
    h := dbms_datapump.open('IMPORT', 'TABLE', 'TEST.LINK', null, '10.2');
    end;
    and get exception: 39001. 00000 - "invalid argument value"
    if i remove 'TEST.LINK' from the arguments it works fine

  • Imp from 11g to 10g db

    Hi all,
    I am importing an expdat.dmp which is an output of 11g to lower 10g db.
    So I am using a 11g client to import it to 10g. But I can not understand why some tables got imported while others were not :(
    The error said that the table already exist, when in fact is it not yet there.
    Have you encountered this kind of issue?
    Or how do I import a dump from 11g to 10g?
    Thanks a lot,
    Yxz

    Wouldn't an export from the 11g Data Pump client work with a 10g database, as long as the dumpset was created with VERSION=10.x?

    whould someone help me out, how can i create database from another database rman backups with different dbname/sid on same host..
    My pfile has new db_name , but while db creation rman setting to db_name to source dbname.. it should be new db name that i want create with new db name...
    is there any RMAN command to specify new DB name it should set while running
    sql statement: alter system set db_name = newdbname -- as part rman script execution...
    it appears to be i should not touch the soruce db.. i have access to only source db rman backups and need to create another db with different dbname/sid.. please do help...

    When you performing RMAN duplicate why you making your script so complicated?
    Your instance name and DB name can be different, But what is the contents in your pfile "D:\TESTDELETE\initclonedb1.ora" ? please do post
    Have you started any other services related to ORACLE? check in start --> run --> services.msc any other active oracles services, Make sure you have clonedb1.
    Startup in nomount
    check the connectivity to target server.
    SET NEWNAME FOR TEMPFILE 1 TO 'F:\app\HOME\oradata\clonedb1\TEMP01.DBF';Why you mentioning SET NEWNAME FOR DATAFILE ? You have option of db_file_name_convert/log_file_name_convert in case if your file system different in Target & auxiliary.
    BACKUP LOCATION 'F:\app\HOME\flash_recovery_area\orcl\'When you have backup in same location why you are mentioning this clause?
    First run duplicate from auxiliary server as
    rman target sys/*****@prod auxiliary /
    RMAN> duplicate target database to "db_name";
    Am not sure what you are trying to do. is it 11gR1 or 11gR2?
    You have option of duplicate from active database without having backup also..
    here some links please check it.

  • RMAN backups from Windows to Linux possible?

    The company just bought a new PowerEdge 2900 w/ dual EM64T Core2 duos (yes that's quads) w/ 8GB RAM. We opted for RHEL ES4 and 9i. I figure the best way of transfering the data from the old machine to the new machine is RMAN. So is it possible to take RMAN backups made in 9.2.0.1 on Windows and restore in 9.2.0.7 (64bit) on RHEL ES4?
    If not will export/import work?

    Not sure why 10g import/export came into the discussion, but some clarification is needed.
    If the OP considers import/export, he (or she) would have to export with with the 9.2.0.1 exp executable and import with the 9.2.0.7 imp executable.
    I agree with Mohamadi52,
    exp -> 9i client
    imp -> 9i or 10g clientThe OP wouldn't be able to use the 10g client to import into a 9.2.0.7 database.
    how big is your database? Just curious if this offers other options?

  • Restore RMAN backup from tape

    I have to restore the RMAN full backup from tape to new host to a previous date say March 1st. My target database RMAN retention period is 28 days, today is 11th May.
    Is it possible to restore the obsolete database from tape backup to new host as of May 1st. If not possible, I would like to restore the available backup say as 15th April from tape to new host.
    Can you please provide me the steps to restore the tape old backup to new host.
    Thanks,

    This is the 10gR2 documentation on the CATALOG command :
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14194/rcmsynta011.htm#sthref230
    You must be specific when stating the version you are running.  Commands may be limited or unavailable in older versions versus more recent versions of Oracle.
