Backup archivelog all delete all input
RMAN> backup archivelog all delete all input;
i have backed up all my archivelogs using the above command, but after the backup archivelogs are not deleted from its default location .ie my default archive location is '/oracle/archive' . After executing the above command, I can see all the archivelogs still available in that location. why is it so
Db:10.2.0
OS: solaris 10
Edited by: user13364377 on Aug 22, 2010 10:44 AM>
My control_file_record_keep_time is 7 days. My understanding is that when we specify the below command,
Rman>backup archivelog all delete all input;
rman will backup all the archive logs(one copy of each log sequece) from the archive location and then delete all the archive logs from the archive location. is it not correct?
>
That is generally right. But that assumes that RMAN knows about these archivelogfiles. It knows about them because of entries in the controlfile. If they are nolonger present - RMAN will not know them and not Backup & delete them.
Kind regards

Backup archivelog all and backup archivelog in rman back
Hi,
Whats the difference between backup archivelog all and backup archivelog in rman backup.Please find below explanation from the online documentation;
+"+
+If you specify BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL, then RMAN backs up exactly one copy of each distinct log sequence number. For example, if you archive to multiple destinations, RMAN backs up one copy of each log sequence number—not each copy of each log sequence number. For other commands, such as DELETE ALL does refer to every log, even duplicate log sequences.+
+"+
Hope That Helps.

Backup archivelog all (RMAN)
For the first time Rman archive log backup, say for example log sequence 100 through 200 was backed.
After few days, log sequence has increased to 267, now if i run the same archive log backup command will rman backup 100 through 267 or 201 through 267. Am bit confused with this.
Help me
kumareshanSo i need to configure retention policy (Recovery window or redundancy) so that after certain period of time entry will be removed from the catalog so that RMAN will not backup the archived logs again.. Am i right??Partially.
You need to configure the retention policy AND add a instructions to delete the backuped archivelogs, with 'delete archivelog (all)'. -
Hi,
Whats the difference between backup archivelog all and backup archivelog using rman.I think i have answered such question before, strange :)

[SOLVED] dbus error when taking a screenshot
I can't take screenshots with the Gnome3 screenshot program. When I try to save a screenshot, I get this error message:
Error while saving screenshot.
Impossible to save the screenshot to file:///home/some/directory.
Error was GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process /usr/bin/nautilus exited with status 1.
Please choose another location and retry.
I found a thread with a similar problem (dbus error when taking a screenshot; the error message is different though) providing a solution, but I can't try that solution because I don't have a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf file.
How can I fix this?
Last edited by cryptkeeper (2012-03-05 08:12:36)Damn, I found the solution (or better: source) of the problem... The error messages states that /usr/bin/nautilus exits with error something-something, and after thinking about that for some seconds it came to my mind that I replaced /usr/bin/nautilus with a softlink (ln -s) to /usr/bin/thunar because I didn't find a better way to totally replace Nautilus with Thunar...
Thanks for trying to help anyway! -
Got RMAN error when running RMAN backup of archivelogs on physical standby database
Got below error when running RMAN backup of datafiles and archivelogs on physical standby database.
RMAN-06820: WARNING: failed to archive current log at primary database
ORACLE error from target database:
ORA-17629: Cannot connect to the remote database server
ORA-17627: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
Could anyone help me? Thanks,Hello;
When you connect RMAN to the source database as TARGET you must specify a password even if RMAN uses operating system authentication.
So the errors ORA-17627 and ORA-00942 appear to be cause and effect.
What version of Oracle? ( 11.2.0.4 according to the tag )
Can you post your backup script?
Best Regards
mseberg
Update
According to :
Database Error Messages 11g Release 2 (11.2) E17766-03
RMAN-06820: WARNING: failed to archive current log at primary database
Cause: An attempt to switch the archived log at the primary database failed.
So I would check my Primary alert log for an issue.

SarinHello

I also executed the command suggested by Joe
cpdsol:soladm 29% grep tape_address /oracle/SOL/102_64/dbs/initSOL.sap | cat -ve
tape_address = /dev/rmt/0mn$
default: value of the tape_address parameter$

tape_address_rew = /dev/rmt/0m$
default: value of the tape_address_rew parameter$
tape_address_rew_arch = /dev/rmt/0m$
default: value of the tape_address_rew parameter$
tape_address_ctl = /dev/...$
default: value of the tape_address_rew_arch parameter$
tape_address_ctl_arch = /dev/...$
Does the $ at the end of the parameter have any significance ??

Hello,
We have crontab to take archivelog backup at every hour at 10 mins. mon-sat incremental and sunday level 0 backup. Today morning I got following error in the log file. (RAC DB 10.2.0.5, OS=RHL)

I found almost related MOS note but unfortunately, I am still unable to understand what actually happened or what is trying to be explain in this particular note. RMAN Backup fails with error ORA-3114 [ID 1264084.1]. One more important question for my concern is that if the command failed for example as in my case. The next time when backup command started to take incremental backups, will it cover or backup those archivelog which were not backed up because of the above error?

Best Regards.A "BACKUP ARCHIVELOG" is not an "Incremental Backup" (ergo, the question of "differential" or "cumulative" doesn't arise).
It is a Backup of the ArchiveLogs specified in archlogspecifier . Since you have specified "ALL" it will attempt to backup all known archivelogs that have not been deleted. The "DELETE ALL INPUT" will delete the files after they have been successfully backed up. If the backup fails, the DELETE is not executed. Therefore, at the next execution, the same (and newer) ArchiveLogs will get backed up.
Why don't you maintain a log of the RMAN Backup run (either with "SPOOL LOG TO .." in the RMAN script or by redirecting STDOUT and STDERR to a custom log file).

What is wrong? I scheduled backup job before on this server and it worked.This may be due to that the schedule frequecy is not set. Make sure Frequency Type and Repeat Every boxes get filled properly.
