Rman files for database load

Hi All,
We are using 11.2.0.2 Database.
A customer of ours has sent us a copy of their database in rman format.
There are no instructions with the files.
The files sent are something that looks like it might be a control file, a number of backup files of varying sizes that look like backed up tablespaces / other files, and a final small file that has a suffix of bck.
While we use rman for backup and recovery, we were suprised to be sent a database in this format with no instructions of how the rman backup was created. Generally we assumed that an rman back is best used to recover the database it was taken from rather than create a new one.
If we'd been sent an export, it would have been easier to know what to do with it.
Without knowing anymore than the above, does it seem possible to build a database from the files we have been given?
Can we examine the control file and figure out what the rman command was that created the file set we received?
thanks for your help.
Tony

I hoppe this help you
Plz post the filenames, do you have de DBID ?, wich O.S. do you have ?
The FORMAT clause can use substitution variables to differentiate backupsets by
database, by piece, and so forth. Here are a few sample substitution variable types:
■ %d Database name
■ %e Archived log sequence number
■ %f Absolute file number
■ %F Combines the DBID, day, month, year, and sequence number, separated
by dashes
■ %c Copy number for multiple copies in a duplexed backup
■ %I Database identifier (DBID)
■ %n Database name padded to eight characters
■ %p Piece number within the backupset
■ %s Backupset number
■ %t Backupset timestamp
■ %U System-generated unique filename (the default)
Restore DB onto New Host
1. Configure environment variables on the new host.
2. Connect to the new target database with NOCATALOG.
3. Set the DBID.
4. Start the instance with NOMOUNT.
5. Restore the SPFILE from backup.
6. Shut down the new instance.
7. Edit the PFILE.
8. Start the instance with NOMOUNT (again) .
9. Create an RMAN RUN block to restore the control file.
10. Create an RMAN RUN block to restore and recover the database.
11. Open the database with RESETLOGS.

Is there a way to concatenate several character positions in a control file for sql*loader???
    example... field1 position(1:3) || position(5:7) ????
I would rather not create any unnecessary temp tables for a straight load...

    How about...

  • Can't find init file for Database

    Hi,
I just installed 9i R2 on Redhat 7.3 and when I create a database with dbca, the db is created and up running fine. However, when I shut the db down and try to restart it, it says 'Can't find init file for Database "db_name"'. Anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks!

While connected as sysdba issue :
    CREATE PFILE FROM SPFILE;
--This creates an initSID.ora file under $ORACLE_HOME/dbs.
You can edit this file to modify any init parameters.
To have the effect this these new parameters startup the database with:
    STARTUP PFILE=$ORACLE_HOME/initSID.ora.
To create spfile with the modified values use:
    CREATE SPFIL FROM PFILE;
Once you create the SPFILE and when you start the db, SPFILE will be used.
    HTH
    Thanks

  • Archive files for database are generating very quickly

I could see that the archive files for my database are generating very quickly (i.e for every 2 minutes) which fast and filling up my archive file location mount point. How to troubleshoot the issue?
    Thanks,
    Sunil.

    Hi,
Archive log generation is the result of DML activity against your database. Your redo log file size seems to be very small. Increase redolog file size by at least 10 times of the current size to make a log switch happen approximately after 20 minutes.

  • Webutil to move files for database bfile

Our application (ported from Forms 6i) uses bfiles in the database as one means of storing binary files in the database. One limitation was the fact we had to create a wide-open file share for the directory that files were copied to.
Now that we are using WebUtil, it seems like the desktop no longer needs the open share, but the midtier server now does.
Can this be done in such a way that the files can get to the database server directly without resorting to file sharing on systems?

Actually, our application support blobs and bfiles, so we already do both. It's just that the bfiles wind up being local to the midtier, so we have to create a share directory on the db host, so when Forms (using webutil now) drops off the files, the database then has it local.
I was kind of hoping someone has done this and would share some code.

  • Change InfoObject value in flat file for Hierarchy load

    Hi Guys,
I am loading hierarchy for an infoobject from flat file. I have the field InfoObject (IOBJNM) whose value needs to be changed before loading into the hierarchy. Can somebody tell me how can I do that through formula or routine.
The InfoObject loads 0HIER_NODE and a leaf infoobject values from flat file.
The hierarchy transfer rules does not contain IOBJNM field., though the Hier Structure under Transfer Structure tab contains IOBJNM.
In transfer structure I see only NodeName, Date From, Date To, and eaf infoobject.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
Try using the IDOC method while loading the hierarchy and make sure you have this IOBJNM in the external charactersitics for the Infoobect to which you are loading this hier.
    Thanks,

  • Controller file for SQL Loader

It is a little hard to tell exactly what your data file looks like and what you want your results to be, due to this forum mangling things a bit and adding extra lines and such.  In general you can either use CONTINUEIF or CONCATENATE.  I have demonstrated both below.  When using CONTINUEIF, it assumes each additional line begins with the word "Permanent".  When using CONCATENATE, it assumes each two lines constitutes one record.  I have also used REPLACE to add a line feed in front of "Permanent", after it is removed during continuation or concatenation.
