RMAN multiple backup schedules

Hi,
Version: Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.3.0 Standard Edition
OS: Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 6.3
I have set up RMAN backups for a database using a full level 0 backupset backup once a week followed by level 1 differential incrementals. These backups are going to the fast recovery area on disk.
We also have some server backup software which uses RMAN to do backups to tape. The tape backups are also incrementals.
I am unsure if these backups know about each other. For example, will the 04:00 tape incremental only backup blocks since the previous day 04:00 tape incremental or the same day 01:00 disk incremental?
If the backups do know about each other is it possible to separate them, so that the tape backups only know about the tape backups.
Would the best way to be to use Incrementally Updated Backups and the RECOVER COPY OF DATABASE WITH TAG 'incr_update' syntax to apply incremental backups to an image copy? So that the tags are linked.
Many Thanks for your help.
Simon

    yes the script is edited
    i have add some command line and edit it for take the full backup level=0 on the same directory with different formant name but location is same.
    can i take full backup level 0 and incremental backup level 1 in the same directory with the different format name.
    for exp:
    allocate channel c2 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Daily_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
    allocate channel c3 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Daily_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
    allocate channel c4 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Daily_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
    i allocate these three channel for incremental level 1 backup;
    the backup is done successfully without any error.
    after that i have change
    allocate channel c2 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Weekly_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
    allocate channel c3 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Weekly_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
    allocate channel c4 device type disk format '/d06/UAT/rman_hot_backup/Weekly_backup%d_DB_%c_%U';
    backup  database incremental level 0
    after doing the above changes it get the error. with the channel location.
    i have to schedule daily incremental backup level 1 and weekly full backup level 0.
    plz suggest me i have to take incremental 1 and full incremental level 0 backup on seperate directory for different format name.

  • FRA changed but incremental RMAN disk backup failed

    This is a 11.1 test database.
    There was a daily FRA RMAN backup scheduled from database control. Because of the filesystem space pressure we changed FRA destination to a new filesystem and removed old FRA directories.
    But this time RMAN failed because it is trying to access the old files as base. How can I force RMAN to make a new base for daily incremental backup and not loose the already scheduled backup.
    Thank you.

    assuming you are using the Oracle provided backup procedure (you are pretty scarce on details) you need to make sure you don't have any backups (crosscheck backup and delete expired backup comes to mind), and run the procedure again. It will make a new level 0 backup and incrementals on the following days.
    Please note if you don't use RMAN to clean up your O/S you will always ruin the RMAN catalog!!!

  • Windows 7 Professional Multiple Backups

    Does Windows 7 Professional enable me to schedule multiple backup jobs for different backup locations and schedules?
    I would like to create one backup job to backup my data partition (which is separate from my c:\ drive) and a c:\ disk image to an external USB drive daily, and another job to backup the same data and image to a network drive on a different schedule (weekly, for example).Windows 7 RC dual booting with VISTA Home Premium
    2 GB memory 160 HD
    Gateway Laptop
    HP Officejet 6310 All-in One inkjet printer
    Verizon FIOS Internet Connection

    Hello Christine,
    i do not know whether you still get alerts for this Thread....but since you wrote "can you please let me know what are your consideration in creating two backup jobs of the same data to seperate locations", I will describe my own considerations.
    1) My most important backups are weekly incremental backups on a local disk
    2) To protect myself against a catastrophe (e.g. my house could burn, burglars could steal all my Hardware,....) i also backup less frequently (typically around every month or every two months) the same data to a set of two external disks, that I store remotely in the safe of my bank.  I create a backup on one of these two disks, go with this disk to my bank, store it in the safe, take with me at home the other one of these two disks that was in the safe, wait one or two months, create again backup on that disk, go to the bank,......)
    3) In addition, I backup a "small subset" of the above data dayli to an internal disk.  This small subset consists of the folders used for my "active projects" (for my active projects, that I am working intensively on, I do not wish to take the risk of losing one week worth of work/changes.... this loss would be too large)
    If interested to know which data is backed-up in item 1) and 2) above:
      -  a System Image Backup of my C: partition
      -  a File/Folder backup of my "data files" located on the :H partition (on same physical disk as the C: partition). This is around 20 GB wort of data and includes among other my Word documents, .pdf files, Windows Live emails, downloaded Webpages, IE Favorites,  MS Word dictionary, ...)
       - a File/Folder Backup of the large amount of Photo Files (today 120 GB; I expect a rapid size increase, among other because I will soon scan my old slides and will soon start to use the .RAW photo format that results in larger photo files)
    A technical detail that might seem irrelevant for your developers but that is essential for me: when "switching" from a weekly incremental Backup written to my local/internal disk to a backup written to my external disks, it is essential for me that the Backup Software does not perform again after every such "switch" a Full Backup (this is what Windows Backup is currently doing in W7). For me, with my large amount of photo files,  I can not afford to do often a Full Backup.
    In this context, I should also describe that I want to keep my photo file backups for a long period of time.  Because it is quite likely, that it is only in one or two years that I will detect current problems wit a subset of my photos (I have a lot of photos, that I will only look-at again in one or two years). Therefore, I do not want a solution that (because of disk space considerations) will need to overwrite a 6 month old Full Backup with the most current Full Backup. I therefore need to avoid frequent switching from Incremental backup to a new Full Backup.
    Another detail:  For me it is important to be able to have trust in the quality of the Backup Software. This is especially important for the relative fragility of incremental backups (incremental backups are more fragile, because they depend on the availability and quality of multiple backups). This is why I recently decided to perform my weekly incremental backups with Windows Backup (as opposed to a incremental backup with a Backup Software that I bougt recently from another Software Company and that is faster and more flexible but less reliable than Windows Backup).
    If you allow me to deviate from the subject: my most important problem with Windows Backup is the lack of detailed documentation. In a attempt to "keep it simple", too much information has been sacrified in the documentation. Even the otherwise excellent "Windows 7 Inside Outside" book does not contain sufficient descriptions.  I am loosing extremely much time, just because of the lack of detailed documentation. Backing Up reliably is for a lot of users something essential.... and to do it reliably, we need more detail information than your team thinks.
    Some few final words: in case you know him, I would like to express my gratitude to "Gordon 7" who provided me
    a lot of very useful information and help on Windows Baup in the Thread " http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/f83c4cf3-15d6-4eb2-816b-63b7184e5dca    "

  • Creating RAC database thru RMAN hot backup

    Hi Guys,
    I am having ERP PROD database on 2 nodes 116 and 117(RAC) server. We have a scheduled RMAN HOT backup of this database
    WE also have ASM implemented.
    We have another 2 servers named 36 and 37(RAC and ASM) which has ERP Test Database and the thing is that we want to refresh this
    test database using ERP PROD RMAN backup.
    Can someone please post the proper steps to restore the RMAN backup to ERP Test database as ASM is alos there.
    As it is little urgent for us.
    help will be appreciated.
    Regards,
    Milan Rathod

    1. take the backup of production database
    rman connect target /
    backup as compressed backupset database plus archivelog format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T';
    move the backup to test server (same location /u01/db/backup/ bcoz rman checks for backupset in the same location only)
    add the below two lines in the test database-- initTEST.ora file
    comment cluster_ parameters in initTEST.ora file
    eg:-
    DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT = (+EBAOUATDATADG1/prod/,/u01/db/app/admin/test/)
    LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT = (+EBAOUATDATADG1/prod/,/u01/db/app/admin/test/)
    check the connectivity between prod and test database.
    from test
    $tnsping PROD
    from prod machine
    $tnsping TEST
    in test server
    startup nomount
    rman target sys@proddb auxiliary /
    duplicate target database to test;
    after completion of duplicate/clone step convert the single instance test to rac instance by uncomment the cluster_ parameters in initTEST.ora parameter
    startup mount the second node in TEST
    ALTER DATABASE ENABLE PUBLIC THREAD 2 ;
    alter database open;
    hope, this will helps you.

  • Multiple backups of same iPhone on one computer possible?

    Moved this over here from a different area in hopes of getting more eyeballs on it.
    Does anyone know if it is possible to have multiple backups of the same iPhone on your computer? I have tried changing the name of the phone (ex. my_iPhone, myiPhoneA) but it still only lists one phone (the most recent name) in the "iPhones backed up on this computer" list in itunes. If anyone has been able to do this, or just knows it could be done, any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Also, does anyone know where the computer actually stores the backup info. Assuming I could overwrite an existing backup file with them, being able to navigate to and save those files would allow me to do pretty much what i am looking to.
    thanks,
    christian

    Yes. It's possible to have more than one backup of your iPhone on your computer. The backup is stored in this folder: Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup in your users profile. You have to disconnect your iPhone, navigate to the folder, move that folder to another part of your computer, and then plug your iPhone back in. This should create another backup in that folder. Then if you add the folder that you moved back in. You'll have two different backups. This is a link to the article where I got this info from. It also has the other places backups are kept on your computer.

  • Using rman to backup a remote database

    I am after a good guide or advice on how (what) to install and (how to) run Oracle RMAN

    Oracle database is open.
    The disk files are to be then backed up to tape using Veritas.
    What software do I need to install on the RMAN box ?
    What software do I need to install on the remote Oracle database box ?
    Thanks,
    Brett Morgan.

    writes to a NFS-mounted diskRman is writing to disk or tape (when is bundled (libraries needed) with some backup software for tapes such as Veritas). The disk device could be local, or mounted disk form other host or storage (over NFS as Werner mentioned, SMB and others).

  • MRP creating multiple delivery schedule lines in PR

    Hi,
    We have activated MRP (type PD) where Purchase requiesition is auto created by system for requirement quantity. We require to optimize delivery schedule in such a way that entire PR quantity is broken into various delivery schedule based on planned delivery time and requirement.  Scenario can be further explained with following example.
    Material Requirement for a month is say 1,25,000 units
    Closing Stock say 25,000 units
    PR Generated by system for 1,00,000 units. The entire quantity is schdulled with only one delivery schedule line as per planned delivery time.
    The requirement is to generate multiple delivery schedule lines automatically in Purchase requisition based on planned delivery time so that Purchase orders can be placed with system generated delivery schedule lines.
    How can it be achieved ?
    Regards,
    Nirav Kinkhabwala

    Dear
    Are you dealing with Single vendor  where you want Multiple Schedule Line item through single PR  which should be generated through MRP run ??
    What you will have to do is to set up the Outline Agreement or Info Record for your vendor and material and then create the source record for this vendor- material relationship and make sure that this source record is set as MRP relevant. Once MRP is run, the vendor is automatically defaulted to your PRs. If in your material master, you have defined the same purchasing group for various material numbers, then with Transaction ME59, it is feasible that you can combine various PRs of the same purchasing group by flagging onto the 'Per Purchasing Group' indicator checkbox. Make a trial test and let me know how it goes.
    Or you can use Qouta arrabgement in that case for different vendor .Please refer : Multiple Requisition  line itme for Quota arrangement
    Just check and revert

  • Multiple MM schedule lines for the same date

    Hello All Gurus,
    I am facing a problem where the MM schedule lines are divided into various quantites for the same date. For example on 02/11/2010 the total quantity is 120, it is appearing in the below form in ME38:
    02/11/2010 - 40
    02/11/2010 - 40
    02/11/2010 - 40
    Although this is not an error, but my client is not happy with this. Can someone tell me why I am getting this error? Is it because of the rounding value that we maintain in MRP 1 view of material master record? Or is there any other setting that I am missing?
    Please let me  know. I would be very much thankful to you.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Umakanth

    Hi,
    Before changing the setup, note that sometimes it is beneficial to split one demand into multiple delivery schedules. Especially if the demand is bigger than equipment type (container/truck etc.). If you want to manage inbound transportation for such delivery schedules, it is much simpler to do this when each delivery schedule is not bigger than one equipment.

  • How can I save multiple backups of my iPhone?

    This weekend I purchased a new 13" MacBook Pro. In the process of transferring data from my old MacBook Pro to the new one I almost lost all of the data from my iPhone. In the process I realized that by default iTunes only keeps one instance of the backup data - the most recent one.
    To avoid such a near miss in the future and to add some healthy redundancy into my life, I would like to be able to keep at least one additional backup copy of my iPhone data. Elsewhere it has been suggested to periodically copy the backup folder to another location. This seems terribly inefficient. Is there a more Apple-like way to create and manage multiple backups of my iPhone and iPad data?
    Thanks!

    That's the only suggestion I have seen (or maybe renaming the files where they are).  It is most un Apple-like for a person to want to do anything than how the programs are set up to do things! You're making life complicated.
    I guess if you were absolutely deteremined to make it "easier" you could write an Applescript to automate the  copying process.

  • How to keep multiple backups of an iphone in itunes

    I have two iPhones, both of which are iPhone 4 with latest iOS 6.1.2. Everytime I connect one iPhone with iTunes on my windows-based computer, it generates a new backup on the computer thus now there exist more than ten backups of this iPhone (labeled with different dates in iTunes->Preference->Devices). However, everytime I connect the other iPhone with iTunes, it updates the latest backup on the computer thus now there exist only two backups of that iPhone. I've not found any setting different betwee those two iPhones. Since sometimes I need to restore iPhone from an old backup, how can I explicitly ask iTunes to keep multiple backups like the former iPhone?
    I know this can be done manually if I rename the corresponding backup folder in ...\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup. I'm just looking a more "automatic" way in iTunes setting.
    Thanks.

    Hi Venkat,
    Why u want to do with CM25?
    Do you have to do splitting before dispatching the operations?
    If not you can do the same through CM27
    Just need to select all the operations of the order(By pressing shift) then click on Dispatch(press F5)
    Still iam doubtful about your question,pls revert

  • Multiple backups of same iPhone possible?

    Hello,
    Does anyone know if it is possible to have multiple backups of the same iPhone on your computer?

  • How do I save multiple backups for one device in iTunes?

    Hey, I manage multiple iPads here at my school and had a question about iTunes backup. We want to have multiple backups from the past for each device so that we can restore the device from an old backup if something goes wrong. We have over 180 iPads so I need something quick and automated. Any ideas?
    We are also using a Mac Server if that helps any.

    Since what we're really talking about now is a script to basically rename files you might want to ask on a more specific Applescript or automator forum. Alternatively, perhaps one of the utilities below might suffice.
    -- Renaming Utilities --
    These are older links but they may have been updated for later OS versions.
    NameChanger http://www.mrrsoftware.com/MRRSoftware/NameChanger.html
    Renamer4Mac http://renamer4mac.com/batch-rename-files-on-mac-osx.html - now shareware but older versions may still be free.
    psrenamer http://www.powersurgepub.com/downloads.html#psrenamer - Java based (=slightly slow) free utility.
    Name Mangler http://www.manytricks.com/namemangler/ - requires OS 10.5+, but File List http://www.manytricks.com/download/filelist is an older version for pre-10.5.

  • Windows Server 2008 backup schedule wizard not showing volumes

    Hi folks,
    We are running into issues when attempting to configure a Windows Backup schedule through either running the Backup Schedule wizard or through using the wbadmin utility. While I have previously posted this issue on a separate forum (with no luck) I’ve restructured
    this description based on the responses received and am also hoping that this a more suitable forum for the problem we are experiencing.
    On running the backup wizard the backup configuration screen shows the backup size to be 0KB for the Full Server option or if I choose ‘Custom’ and go to ‘select backup items’ the volume list is empty. However the later ‘select destination disk’ screen of
    the wizard lists all of the disks attached to the server along with the associated volume letters (via clicking the ‘Show All Available Disks’ option).
    On the backup wizard reaching the summary stage it then proceeds to format the destination disk. On completion of this format the wizard status then changes to ‘Creating backup schedule’ at which point it then fails with the message “The specified number
    of volumes is invalid”.
    Equally running the following wbadmin command:
    wbadmin ENABLE BACKUP -addtarget:{81737a1c-0000-0000-0000-000000000000} -schedule:21:00 -include:c:
    Results in the following error:
    “ERROR - One of the source volumes specified cannot be included: c: Please specify source as a volume drive letter or access path (if volume is mounted in a folder). Only volumes on locally attached disks can be backed up.”
    The server is a Dell PowerEdge R620 running Windows server 2008SP2 and is operating as expected other than for this windows back issue. Everything appears as normal when I view the disks within the Disk Management Console. Backups used to run on this server
    fine before it was migrated from old hardware to new hardware using Doubletake Move. Everything else is running fine since the migration apart from Windows backup so not why it would only be effecting Windows backup. I have also ran the wbadmin ‘delete
    catalog’ command to remove reference to the previous backups that were taken.
    Is there any other tests that I can run to determine why Windows backup is having trouble seeing the available volumes at the 'Select Backup items' stage but not at the Select Destination' stage? Any help or pointers in the right direction would be very
    much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Niall

    Hi Mandy,
    Thanks for your advise and apologies for my delayed response. I've was on leave for the past two weeks and my colleague (who had been watching this post in my absence)
    was nervous about deleting registry entries (:>)..
    I have searched for upper and lower filter values defined under the specified 'Class' registry folder and have found there to be no values specified for either:
    "Storage volume shadow copies" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{533C5B84-EC70-11D2-9505-00C04F79DEAF}
    OR "Storage Volumes" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{71A27CDD-812A-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F}
    Happy to share the other values stored under these two keys if they would be of use in helping spot the problem?
    The only upperFilters value that I found within the Class registry folder that related to storage was:
    "Disk drives" at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} which had a REG_MULTI_SZ upperFilters value of 'PartMgr'.
    Do you know if this Disk drives upperFilters value is as expected and if should/can I delete it?
    Also is there any other tests that I can run to determine why Windows backup is having trouble seeing the available volumes at the 'Select Backup items' stage but not at the Select Destination' stage?
    Thanks,
    Niall
