RMAN-no mount

Dear All
I want to take backup throug rman in (no mount ) state and is it possible.
Plz send script if you have
With Regards

user51472I, I answered a question to do with RMAN in the thread "RMAN Problem".
Judging by these two questions you really should take yingkuan's advice and read the Backup and Recovery manuals cover to cover otherwise your DBA career could be a very short one.

  • Duplicating a db to another host via rman

    I found a few documents on this topic, but didn't resolve my issue.
    I am trying to restore an RMAN backup to a different host
    (with same instance name, different path) from where the backup was taken.
    And while running it gives the following error:
    ORA-19505: failed to identify file "D:\ORACLE\BACKUP\TRACKER_20050920_FULL.S148P1"
    ORA-27041: unable to open file

    O/S-Error : (OS 21) device not ready
    Here D: drive is where I backup via rman ervery day.
    If any of you had come across this problem and had a solution to this, could you please share it with me.
    Thanks
    P.S. I'm able to connect to catalog, target and auxiliary.

  • Backup RMAN Incremental Level 1 without Level 0 - 10gR2

    Hi,
    I'm a bit confused after some tests.
    The Question: It's mandatory to perform backup incremental level 0 before the level 1 using Oracle 10gR2 ?
    On Oracle 11.2 it's mandatory but on Oracle 10.2.0.5 I don't know.
    Test on 11.2. If doesn't exists level 0 rman take care about it and perform automaticaly level 0 before level1
    RMAN> backup incremental level 1 database;
    Starting backup at 29-APR-11
    using channel ORA_DISK_1
    no parent backup or copy of datafile 1 found
    channel ORA_DISK_1: starting incremental level 0 datafile backup set
    channel ORA_DISK_1: specifying datafile(s) in backup set
    ...Docs said:
    Incremental backups capture only those blocks that change between backups in each datafile.
    In a typical incremental backup strategy, a level 0 incremental backup is used as a starting point. A level 0 backup captures all blocks in the datafile.
    So, on Oracle 10.2.0.5 this not happen like on 11.2:
    Perfoming backup level 1 without level 0:

    Hi Gokhan,
    Thank you for point this.
    After spending a time studying about this I find out this:
    Your expanation apply only in Oracle 10gR1/R2.
    Because there is differences between RMAN Version 10gR1/R2 and 11gR1/R2 about Incremental Level 1 and this confuse me.
    Oracle 10gR1/R2 run only one backup incremental level 1 even if level 0 not exists .
    Oracle 11gR1/R2 run two backups incremental if level 0 not exists. i.e level 0 first and after that level 1.
    Oracle 10gR2
    If no level 0 backup is available, then the behavior depends upon the compatibility mode setting. If compatibility is >=10.0.0, RMAN copies all blocks changed since the file was created, and stores the results as a level 1 backup. In other words, the SCN at the time the incremental backup is taken is the file creation SCN.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/backup.102/b14192/bkup004.htm
    Thats means wich RMAN run level 0 with name level 1. (i.e: Only one Backup) This is confuse.
    Oracle 11gR1
    If no level 0 backup is available in either the current or parent incarnation, then the behavior varies with the compatibility mode setting. If compatibility is >=10.0.0, RMAN copies all blocks that have been changed since the file was created. Otherwise, RMAN behaves as it did in previous releases, by generating a level 0 backup.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmcncpt.htm#BRADV89500
    Oracle 11gR2
    If no level 0 backup is available in either the current or parent incarnation, then the behavior varies with the compatibility mode setting. If compatibility is >=10.0.0, RMAN copies all blocks that have been changed since the file was created. Otherwise, RMAN generates a level 0 backup.
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/backup.112/e10642/rcmcncpt.htm#BRADV89500
    Thats means wich RMAN run (automatically) level 0 first after finish level 0 backup RMAN run level 1 backup (i.e Two Backups). This seems right.

    Anyway, I have 2 databases residing on one machine. A production database "a" and a clone it "b". I performed the cloning in OEM fine.
    I then performed a full database backup on "b" using OEM which included the control files. This seemed to go well. I had them created on a mapped drive."s:\"
    Now I am trying to use the perform recovery tools in OEM and I can't get anywhere. I am not familiar with RMAN, but I thought that was the purpose of the OEM to provide out of the box solution. The RMAN script generated behind the scenes looks like:
    set dbid 1508042233;
    set controlfile autobackup format for device type disk to '%F';
    run {
    allocate channel oem_restore type disk;
    restore controlfile from autobackup;
    shutdown immediate;
    startup mount;
    I changed the 2nd line to match my drive mapping 's:\%F';
    My error message is as follows and yes it was wrapped this way!
    Error in Restoring Control File

    Thanks,
    John

    Do one thng. Keep the target db in nomount mode and then run recovery using OEM.

    Please let know the setps for creating new databaseIf it is in archivelog mode you can use duplicate to refresh database DEMO from TEST..
    or after cold backup, go to mount ,
    create trace file of controlfile becuase you are chaning database name

  • RMAN backup in noarchived log mode

    Hi,
    can we take RMAN backup in noarchived log mode?
    If yes, how? just run backup database command or ?
    thanks

    You can use RMAN to backup a database in noarchivelog mode but you need to shutdown and mount the database. e.g.:
    rman target /
    RMAN> shutdown immediate
    RMAN> startup mount
    RMAN> backup database

  • Taking tablespace offline through RMAN command line

    I am taking a Oracle 9i Backup and Recovery class. One of the hands-on assignments is to simulate a lost datafile. The instructions say to shut down the database through RMAN, delete the INDX01.dbf datafile through my operating system, mount the database, take the INDX tablespace offline, open the database, recover the INDX01.dbf datafile, and then place the INDX tablespace online again.
    My problem is that when I issue the command (in RMAN) to take the INDX tablespace offline (remember, database is mounted), I get an error saying the database is not open. The command I am issuing through RMAN is this: >sql 'ALTER TABLESPACE INDX OFFLINE IMMEDIATE'; I can't get any further because of the error message that my database is not open. Is my instruction book wrong in that I can't take the tablespace offline if the database is in a mounted state? Does the database have to be open to do this?

    4. Mount the database and take the tablespace corresponding to Indx01.dbf data file offline.There could be a misunderstanding about the command to be used. ALTER TABLESPACE command needs an open DB to work, but you can use
    RMAN> sql 'alter database datafile <file name or file number> offline drop';
    that will work with DB in mount state. See this example :
    RMAN> startup mount
    connected to target database (not started)

    database mounted

    # Allocate channel. Important: This must be done after

    allocate channel t1 DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '/backuplocation/DB1RMAN/%U' ;Above not needed if you set it as part of the rman config:
    oracle> rman target /
    rman> CONFIGURE DEFAULT DEVICE TYPE TO DISK FORMAT '/backuplocation/DB1RMAN/%U';
    # Perform full database backup
    backup Database format '/backuplocation/DB1RMAN/%d_FULL_%U.bck';Your use of "format" is redundant with your channel allocation.
    # Open database after backup complete
    sql 'alter database open';
    sql 'ALTER DATABASE BACKUP CONTROLFILE TO TRACE';No need to shell out to sql. those commands are accepted directly by rman.

    Please guide to delete all AVAILABLE valid RMAN backup by RMAN command.

    You can do it by manually delete the backups and archivelogs from OS location. Then use below commands
    RMAN>crosscheck backup;
    It will give status as EXPIRED for backups which are valid but not available at OS level.
    RMAN>delete expired backup;
    Delete all the backups whose status are EXPIRED from database level.
    Similarly for archivelogs
    RMAN>crosscheck archivelog all;
    RMAN>delete expired archivelog all;

  • Restoring of rman backup

    Hi all,
    i got a scenerion where i need to check whether rman back is valid or not.
    i have y server where production db resides and storage team kept the 7 days old rman backup in the same production server and my resposibility is to reatore the rman backup with new database name in the same server and to query the new db to cross verify that rman backup is valid or not.
    oracle version : 9.2.0.4.0
    os : windows
    appreciated the inputs.
    Thanks
    Prakash

    Can you solve your problem?
    Now I explain this for you.Consider we have database which name is "w".We want craete new database (w1) using backup of w in same machine.Also backup of database have located in D:\oracle\product\10.2.0\flash_recovery_area\W.
    First we have to create service and some directories for new W1,aslo restore spfile and controlfile as
